The Ralph Lauren outfit is still timeless. I love that whole silhouette. I’d kill to have that skirt. I’m so glad to hear that she wasn’t crazy about the pretty in pink dress, I absolutely hated it 😂😂😂😂😂. But I get the whole concept of why that dress works for the film
I watched Pretty in Pink with my teenage daughter for the first time today, and she was completely blown away by Molly's beauty and style. Now she's wanting to go vintage shopping to see if she can recreate that look for herself. We all joke about the 80s as being the decade that style forgot, but it's amazing how timeless some of those trends really were. And that boho gown at 8:48? Outstanding! Molly is still an absolute style queen 😍
Molly Ringwald was the It Girl of the 80´s before the internet and social media. She was Kardashian-like before Kim. All the girls looked at her to be like her. All the guys fell in love, instant crush. She is iconic. Still ageless and charming. Fluent in French. What else can we say about her? She is fantastic!
As a teenager who never really fit in, I totally related to Molly's character in "Pretty in Pink" and tried as best as I could to replicate her style from the film. I would say my fashion goals from 1984 - 1990 were a combination of Molly Ringwald, Aimee Mann, Siouxsie Sioux and the girls on the bus in the Depeche Mode documentary "101".
Amazing that Molly had so much say in costumes as a teenager in those movies. The crew must have really respected her. Loved her cameo in Single Drunk Female opposite Ally Sheedy!
I totally HATED the Pretty in Pink prom dress. I’m actually relieved to hear that Molly hated it also. I think it’s a good example of how important a costume designer is on a film project… the movie would have been better if that dress had not been so hideous.
You could wear a paper bag and be chic. Like most women with a French sensibility, your look is unique, personal, and confident. (A standout from boring “quiet” luxury.) Still a head-turner!
