The Roland Mobile Cube also has a chorus effect that the Boss does not have. I’ve never found any kind of distortion to be useful when playing ukulele.
That’s why to me the Roland wins out by giving you the most useful clean channel effects for ukulele or acoustic guitar which is chorus and delay and since it has two speakers, the effects are in true stereo. Which especially brings the chorus alive.
I do of course play electric guitar and for that I use the Yamaha THR30. The great and unique thing about that amp is that it has specific channels voiced for acoustic instruments, electric guitar and even a channel to play bass on.
As most musicians know, playing acoustic guitar through a strictly electric guitar amp sounds terrible and if you play a bass through your electric guitar amp, you will normally blow out the speakers.
However with the Yamaha, it is the only amp on the market that is all 3 amps in one. It also has a rechargeable lithium ion battery which allows you to play up to 6 hours unplugged on a single charge.
I used to play in a uke band and regularly used distortion. Solid body uke, but still nylon strung with a piezo - goes weird if over done, but a touch is good. Used a Blues Driver pedal to dirty it up for some songs.

Maybe you could post some old videos of that? There aren’t a lot of ukulele players that use distortion to play it like an electric guitar 🎸 so I’m sure many of your viewers would love to see that.

It’s 7 watts, Barry. A hundred bucks everywhere in the USA. I don’t have one; I use a Fishman LoudBox Mini with the Bluetooth option (I only use the Bluetooth for drum-machine apps from my iPhone).

This video is very useful to me, since the two amps I have are big ones. There is no way I can bring them outside to play. I really need a battery amp. This Boss might be a good choise for me, I guess.

I've been thinking about getting into a passive-pickup uke, but I was worried about needing to buy a pre-amp. Stuff like this seems to aleve that fear?
Passive's are generally fine into an amp - because the amp is essentially doing the work a pre-amp would do - you might just need to turn the gain up higher than normal. Where a passive really needs a pre-amp or DI box is on stage running straight into a desk.
