Thanks for the review Terry, really helpful for anyone looking for a cool little amp. Personally I liked the sound of it, and the extra monitor that comes with it is sure to help out with the main amp. 10:57 was funny as hell and the whole video had a great vibe to it, truly entertaining. I'm looking forward to any future reviews, be it ukes or accessories. Unfortunately the Ponos are not available in my country yet, though I'm digging them after seeing them in your reviews. Take care 😊

I’m REALLY happy to see an amp review. This is an area where I want to learn more. Abilities to input a mic and connect a computer seem desirable.... and, of course, portability. This amp meats the portability need well. Would you consider reviewing the Power Grid ‘Spark’ amp? It boasts a lot of the things uke players would value...but we need a pro to evaluate it. Thanks again!

It was difficult to hear the difference between unamplified versus amplified since we didn't have any reference points. It sounded, I assume, transparent which is what I suppose a lot of people want. I personally use a 75 watt Blackstar with my ukes and I normally use a fuzz pedal, a flanger, and a cry baby pedal. So I am a fan of Blackstar amps, but this video left me wondering about the Fly Mini because it was hard to determine what it was doing

when looking for an amp, I really wanted to try the black fly 3 but the local shop didn't have one on display. The one that had the least quack when I played it was the one I bought, the vox pathfinder 10. I also wanted to try an AC4 but the quack from the pickup was out of control. broke my heart. This acoustic amp sounds solid.

I've played a couple of ukes through the standard Fly 3 mini, and they both sounded great. With the standard Fly 3 you can overdrive the signal and both ukes sounded great with a clean setting and when overdriven.

Question, if you’re predominantly using low g would you consider the fly3 bass amp??

Enjoyed the video Terry. I’ve had the standard black fly 3 for a few months bought for electric guitar practice - which is fabulous. I got that with Bluetooth (not sure if the acoustic has the option) - which is great for either making it a general use speaker or for backing tracks. I haven’t tried plugging in either an electro acoustic guitar or ukulele into the standard model. I’m really ignorant on these things - what technically would the difference be?

What's the difference between the Blackstar FLY 3 acoustic and the regular Blackstar FLY 3? Which one is best suited for combining both usage with a electric-acoustic ukelele + a full body electric ukelele (e.g. Flight Pathfinder)? I had the acoustic version but I returned it because I thought it wasn't suited for usage with a full electric ukelele. Thanks!

Interesting video - I am so "thumb in the middle of my hand" when using amp, so every new learning of those really is needed. This little amp seems to be practical for some circumstances, all kinds of performances on open street or on difficult acoustics comes to my mind first. It even looks cool with this little instrument - if the amp is big and heavy and the instrument is this tiny, they are in a way a bit "out of balance". The extra monitor is useful, too - depends on the acoustic of the place where you are playing, do you need it to make the music heard to all of the people - or as you said, to you as a stage monitor. I am - basically - live acoustic musician, so I have not really understand the reason why to play electric at all. If the instrument itself has good resonance/sustain, lack of volume should not be the reason why to play amplified. But it might be interesting to make some "research" of how you can modify the sound of an instrument for getting more sounds, colors and extra tools for interpretation. I myself almost hate distortion. I have so "old music ear", that it makes me feel sick, when distortion is nowadays used almost as a "must". But, I understand someone/ quite many music listeners and players like it - it is purely question of taste. I like amplified music most when the real and best sound quality of the instrument itself is not modified too much.

😲 I knew it was going to fall, I cringed when it did!!
But I would love to see a video comparing the blackstar acoustic amp featured I this video with the regular blackstar electric mini fly 3 amp (the black one). No one has done a video yet comparing the two. I have the black one and have been wanting to get the acoustic version to see which my ukulele does better with.

I think it will do OK with the acoustic Fly 3, but probably better with the standard Fly 3. I've played a couple of ukes through the standard Fly 3, and they both sounded great using clean and with overdrive. One of the ukes had a low G and I don't recall any issues with it. I found a little bit of overdrive on the uke really improved the sound, but you could take it all the way if you want to play heavy metal uke (and who doesn't?).

      @@mandolinic thank you so much!!!!

@@prangel03 I bought the Fly 3 to use with my mando and uke. Whilst it sounded great with my uke (high g) and my friend's uke (low g), I was a little disappointed with how it sounded with my various mandolins, although it was acceptable on a clean setting with no delay. I mainly play mandolins (as you might guess from my user name).
My friend was so impressed with my Fly 3 on his uke and guitars that he immediately bought it off me! I've used the money to buy the Fly 3 Acoustic, which is due to arrive tomorrow. I'll post an update when I've tried it out. If I only needed an amp for my uke then I would be overjoyed with the standard Fly 3.

@@prangel03 Ok, so the Fly 3 Acoustic arrived yesterday. It sounded great with my High G uke, and with my Fender A52E electro/acoustic mandolin, and also with my Chinese knock-off electric mandolin. But the bad news is that it sounded terrible with my Godin A8 mandolin. Every time I picked a single note, there was a loud plectrum noise through the amp. Trying to use the echo made it worse. I tried different picks, and I also put it through a Zoom X1On pedal that I keep for the electric mando, but I couldn't find any way to cleanly remove the pick noise. The Godin is my main gigging mandolin so with a heavy heart I'm returning the amp. I can't afford to have any equipment that isn't pulling its weight.
Regarding the uke, I don't think it sounded significantly better through the Acoustic, although the Acoustic does have separate tone controls which the standard amp lacks. My suggestion is that if you already like the sound you're getting with the standard Fly 3 on a clean setting with your uke, you probably won't want the Acoustic as well. Save the money and put it towards that will be more useful, like beer.

I appreciate taking the time to do an amp review but you know ole saying, if you can't do something right... This is not a bad little amp, and albeit a quick hitter, you're really doing this little amp an injustice with the methodology in which the demo is performed. If I'm Blackstar I would want this video pulled.

  • @eileenlander1380

Well, it is helpful having a demo that doesn’t assume pre-knowledge, but then you didn’t explain what a pedal is (as it happens, I know) nor show us where you plugged it in. And why is there a picture of a computer on the box? Does it do something you are not telling us? And I think you shake sure you have enough room before recording a demo.
