Steve's final smash should have been a teaser for Minecraft legends. My idea is a bunch of hostile mobs from the over world, led by Steve, would charge across the screen, burying enemies. It would be a cinematic.

Pretty sure the reason people were saying Triforce Slash is based on the finishing 4-part slash in Ocarina of Time, despite not visually being similar, is because Zelda used the power of the Triforce to restrain Ganon while Link finished him with slashes. Smash just sped it up to be flashier and instead of Zelda appearing to do the binding, they just made the Triforce appear to bind the target. It’s not the most solid argument, but I can understand the thought process

Another reference for Sora's final smash that I really like is that he does the same hop backwards while spinning the keyblade as he does in KH2 when sealing the keyholes on all the worlds there. The cloudy setting also looks like the KH2 sealing the keyhole sequence. I didn't think of him sealing the keyhole on the "smash" world which I love now.

    • @dailydelphox
      @dailydelphox Год назад +14

You can kinda tell PJiggles probably hasn't played Kingdom Hearts.
He seems to be under the impression that worlds are usually accessed through doors because Sora seals the 'keyholes to worlds', but somebody probably hasn't told him that these keyholes are more like, responsible for quarantining planets and not really related to any door.
It's still possible he's sealing a "door to Smash", but it's still clearly meant to parallel him sealing the Door to Darkness, because that's one of the only times a scenario like that happens in the series.

Missed opportunity: you could've told us that the Star Fox characters have special lines in some cases when the Final Smash is initiated.
Fox usually says "Star Fox, fire at will!" but when Wolf is caught, he says "This is the end for you, Wolf!"
Falco usually says "Time for a little payback!" but if there are two or three players caught, he will say "We got multiple bogies inbound!"

He spent a good minute complaining about the likes of Super Sonic and Bowser Jr.'s Final Smashes being horribly ineffective. Which is entirely fair and he has full license to do so, but it also means it's not a dogmatic guideline that he can't spend a minute or two on saying, "oh yeah, the space animals have unique voice lines for their Final Smashes depending on who they fight." It's just not really grounded to argue against such a harmless suggestion.

I still think that Dark Pit should've gotten the Lightning Chariot. He uses the Lightning Chariot more than Pit in Uprising. Pit only uses the actual Chariot once, to break through Palutena's barrier. Dark Pit uses it at the end of the same chapter to smash open the portal to the Chaos Kin's lair and uses it a second time to impale Hades and rescue Pit at the end of chapter 23. Furthermore, Palutena's Guidance for Dark Pit establishes that Viridi is currently in possession of the Lightning Chariot and that Dark Pit has joined the Forces of Nature. They totally dropped the ball.

While nothing is confirmed, one could also speculate that there's a chance the Brawl dev team was able to take inspiration for Samus' final smash from potential Dread prototypes/concepts

  • @dailydelphox
    @dailydelphox Год назад +18

Worth noting about Sora's Final Smash:
It's 100% a reference to him sealing the door to darkness. Not sure if you're aware but, despite having the ability to seal keyholes, it's actually rare that he uses this abilities on doors. This is because worlds are treated more like planets floating in space, and sealing keyholes merely cuts them off from eachother- Worlds usually don't have doors leading to them.
The Door to Darkness is different, because it doesn't lead to a "planet"-esque world, it basically leads to some other dimension where darkness resides, "The World of Darkness.". Think of it like the nether and overworld in Minecraft.
Maybe in this context, the entrance to Smash is being presented as a door of sorts, but in concept, the only time a scene like this happens in Kingdom Hearts is when Sora is specifically sealing the Door to Darkness in Kingdom Hearts 1.

I miss being able to control Giga Bowser/Mac, the Landmaster, Luigi’s funny weird negative zone and even the short rhythm game of DK’s Bongos.

The main reason pichu takes damage isn't because of the recoil damage from volt tackle (though it may be related) it's actually because in a pokedex entry for pichu it says that pichu don't yet know how to control their electric powers so they often end up shocking themselves. Which just sounds adorable

Awesome work with all this! The effort and result is very much appreciated~
    Just wanna add two addendums:
-Triple Finish was featured in the Pokémon manga at the end of one of the major story arcs. In it, 9 of the protags unleash type-specific versions of the attack (Triple Finish Grass, Triple Finish Fire and Triple Finish Water) with the 9 starters from the first three generations. There's also an extra Electric-type one used by two Pikachu and a Pichu. I think that chapter was released after Brawl's release to reference the game, but I'm not sure.
-Pac-Man's Final Smash in Ultimate also references the fact that he can wrap around the screen, just like in his home games. This was mentioned in the Direct that accompanied the Everyone is Here trailer.

Fun fact about Ganondorf’s final smash in Ultimate:
The sword slash at the start as a spike-effect. Meaning that if your opponent is off-stage while you use this, you can actually kill them with the spike of the initial hit rather than the actual charge forward part of the final smash. Most of the time, they fly down too slowly and are hit by the charge as well, but I have killed people a few times with just the spike.

There is actually can be an in universe explanation for Robin's Final Smash not changing in Ultimate. In Fire Emblem Awakening the Outrealm is an accessible area that lets you travel to other dimensions and in said dimensions there can be parallel world versions of characters. Some of the Outrealm Missions include literally saving alternate universe versions of the child units in the game. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to have one of the Chroms be an outrealm version.

Corrin doesn’t use water magic, so the water power in their FS is based on that event" (which was wrong, corrin do have water power in their dragon form) but i see it’s been corrected here.

Great video! One thing to note is that I believe a lot of the Ultimate final smashes became "lamer" because Sakurai mentioned at one point that he wanted to streamline all Final Smashes in Ultimate, likely as they were introducing the meter mechanic. (Update, you do mention this in the closing thoughts, but I did want to mention that I remember Sakurai specifically talking about it at some point)

The upwards thing Meta Knight does in his final smash might be based on an ability that is at least in return to dreamland, where Kirby with the sword ability or Meta Knight can hold up on the controls to hold their sword up, making their next normal swing shoot out a curved beam to damage enemies.
    Basically powering up the sword.

An additional note of Lucina in Smash Bros, her being a near exact clone of Marth, actually has story reference. From what little I've heard of Fire Emblem Awakening, supposedly, she had to impersonate Marth in that game, for a good reason. I have neither bought nor played Awakening myself, so I'm only going off what I heard. If that is true, her sharing the near identical moveset in Smash to Marth (except damage is fixed for Lucina, while Marth's attacks scale or descale in damage based on the distance or closeness to the tip of his sword upon hitting a target) actually makes allot of sense. As she's worked hard to attempt to mirror Marth likeness, down to basically his moveset in Smash Bros.

The powered up versions of Kirby's abilities are officially referred to as Super Abilities, and there are five: Ultra Sword, Flare Beam, Monster Flame, Snow Bowl and Grand Hammer, being Super Ability versions of the Sword, Beam, Fire, Ice and Hammer abilities.
As for Critical Hit, the animation for Marth and Lucina's actually also comes from Fire Emblem. The way they lift the sword in the air before lunging is a direct reference to Marth's critical hit animation in the _Shadow Dragon, Mystery of the Emblem_ and their remakes.
Another fun fact is that the design of the health bars that show up when landing Critical Hit are different between Brawl and Smash 4/Ultimate. In Brawl, it uses the design that first appeared in _Mystery of the Emblem,_ while in Smash 4 and Ultimate, it was changed to the design seen in, fittingly, _Awakening._
Funnily enough, Corrin never used a move called Torrential Roar in _Fates,_ HOWEVER, the move _did_ eventually become canon to the Fire Emblem series as of _Engage._ In that game, Emblems are spirits based on Fire Emblem's past heroes, and amongst them is Emblem Corrin. When a unit is Engaged with an Emblem, they gain more powerful skills and access to a Once-Per-Engage use of an Engage Attack, basically a super move, and the Engage Attack gained when engaged with Emblem Corrin is, in fact, called Torrential Roar, which fires a massive stream of water that damages enemies in a line, leaving behind water tiles on the attacked area that reduce the evasion of anybody who stands in them.
To be more specific on Grand Cross, Item Crashes are supercharged iterations of specific subweapon attacks. In particular, Grand Cross, as the name may imply, is the Item Crash that Richter can use when he has the Cross.

PK fire is literally Ness igniting the air in a straight bolt with his thoughts.

Teeny correction regarding the Three Sacred Treasures, he actually uses the Wings of Pegasus in the battle against Medusa. You can only really tell by the changed wing glow color from blue when Palutena is granting the Power of Flight to pink when he's using the Wings of Pegasus. This even carries if you go back to the chapter without the Three Sacred Treasures, as Palutena will have him bring it anyways just in case.

Small correction for when you talk about the support mechanic in Peace Walker: Peace Walker actually does let you request support fire. You have to use a separate type of marker which when activated has the area where it was placed fired upon from an offscreen vehicle.
I think changing Snakes’s final smash was a poor decision. His old one was actually based on something he did. His new one is based on something that a different Metal Gear character did. He never had access to air strikes in his games.

This gives various multipliers depending if it's down 1 or 2+ stocks, as well as the number of players in the match. The highest it can reach is 2x in Smash 4, when behind 2 stocks or more in a 4-player match. Aura ultimately is still capped at 1.8x.
