Thank you Chanel, this was extremely helpful especially since I’m about to embark on a similar project. For months I’ve been trying to get up the nerve to begin a large wedding album for my best friend’s son and his about-to-be bride (they’re like family, so I feel it must be extra special and absolutely perfect). Earlier this year, I spent a lot of money on supplies for this project, sourcing from several bookbinding suppliers and from a specialty paper supplier in NYC when we went there in January. I went all-in as if money were no object. I must add that I carefully carried tubes around the city of what I hope will be the perfect Italian hot-press bright white watercolour paper for this album…if you’d seen me, you would have thought I was carrying irreplaceable antique documents or priceless art, lol. I also bought special glassine sheets to go in-between each page and photo corners. Anyway, although I’ve watched as many album making videos I could find, it wasn’t easy to find any for creating an old-school style album that could accommodate actual photographs (most don’t take into consideration of the space needed in between the pages), so thank so much you for this one❣️
What a wonderful project for your family. I'd be jittery about this if we're me -- even though I do my art for fun and for me. It's different when you're working on a wedding book or a book for family memories. Have you considered making small samples with various ideas to give yourself practice and to blunt the edge of jitters, if you have them. It gives family choices which can go many ways. In the final analysis, if you're happy, then that's it, that's all!
You’re going to love art of the fold. It’s now my favorite book Hedi Kyle is an amazing artist. I love how you are making more and more beautiful books
Hello, bookbinding is a quiet and wonderful craft, and I like it very much. I want to ask you a question and I hope you can answer it. Do you rely on bookbinding as both an income and a craft? Is there a respectable income? Also, you are the best person to do this. I follow your videos all day long. You are creative. Thank you from Algeria.🇩🇿💛
Yes I rely on bookbinding and content creation full-time and it is a dream come true. The income is humble, still figuring out how to make a more comfortable living. I also have a partner. Thank you for your kind words 🫶🏼
Foil stamping gives me anxiety. But! I realized that I could use a Mylar taped on to the bed of the foil press overlay to register and this helped me so much.
Just found your channel and I’m thrilled. Your work is beautiful and your tutorials are so helpful. I haven’t bounds a book in a long time. I’m now inspired!
I’ve been low key waiting for this lol! Thanks for working it out and sharing it with us! I’ve been looking for a beautiful case bound option as an album for years now haha (too lazy to work it out myself)
This is so cool! I was just wondering how people who do scrapbooks keep them from getting so big and not ruining the spine. You answered that question! Hope Donna loves her sketchbook!
Τhank you for the tutorial! I will definitely try it. Somewhere l saw a combination of link stitch and coptic at the same station. I think it is very nice but I couldn't find how it is made. Maybe it could be an idea for a future tutorial.
A very interesting project. Your skill and previous experiments really helped your decision making and technique. Haven't seen the amazing wonder dog Lucy since your Telluride classes - hope she is OK. Another fine video!
Hello I watch in awe as you make your books . They are spectacular. Your attention to detail is above and beyond. . I notice in one of your past videos you sliced your finger. 🤪Ouch! I do quilting and always tell myself to keep the fingers out of the way. You can't grow a new one..😅 keep posting your beautiful videos and I for one will be watching. Much love from Australia ❤❤.
❤❤❤ Beautiful job as always! Lol I totally felt that errr with that second end paper gluing! I actually started to place a piece of masking tape or washi tape prior to gluing so that I knew exactly where the paper should be glued down on the case. I just close the book up how it should be and line up the tape on the inside overhang edges, it helped a lot taking out the guess work! That bit always gets me. 😂
I'm scrapber i like to make albums , I loved the way that you make this nice one , but I'm short ot some material, I'll make one as soon I get the material I need , nice work ❤❤❤
and yess for scrapbooks i seen other artist made scrapbooks they leave much room between the signatures for adding more papers and stuff after book is finished. i tried one with a soft spine and pamhlet stich? if i say this right haha.. but the book became bulked after i put in tags and cards etc.. love your books!
Hello Chanel and fellow bookbinders. I'm starting book binding job soon. So I wanted to ask If there any tips and tricks you want to give me. I am bad at case bound :(.
❤Hello 🤗 Chanel 🌹 So Great to hear from you and watch this video What an Amazing Book you made What an Awesome gift also Hope you have been well and enjoying your summer Thank you again 🌹☺️💌🖌️🎨📚🦄🤗🩷🩷🩷🩷❤
I always learn something new from your videos. The album looks great and I'm sure will be much appreciated. My daughter gifted me the hot press machine for my birthday recently. Can you please share where you purchased the letters? Thank you ❤️
great work.. i seen your other bookbinding tutorial. there you placed first the fabric mule? and then the tissuepaper? what is better? first the tissuepaper on the spine and than the mule?
Hello !! This is a very nice and well done photo album, congratulations. As a photographer I'm thinking of making some for my tweo daughters. JUst ot have an idea where to start or adjust what are the size of you pages. Just by guessing I think theya re 10 XS 10 or 12 x 12 inches but I'm not sure. Thank you !!
Wow, that was wonderful to watch. I want to find a video that binds a few signatures together using 200gsm paper. I'm only a beginner and have very few supplies. Can you help me please.
Ok, so I still have some trouble with casing in and have tried about 4 different methods at this point. I feel like the way you do it makes a ton of sense, but it was a critical fail for me both times I tried (once with PVA which basically ruined everything... another time with paste where I had to put it down and re-do about 4 times). I am wondering how you are able to pull this method off... Like I think to me it looks like you are just having the text block pushed all the way into the spine and eyeballing what it looks like in terms of distance from the four edge of the book to the board and then when you paste it down putting it in that spot. When I have tried to do that, most of the time I end up with the paper stretching more than I anticipated and then there is puckering at the hinge. How do you deal with this other than just knowing how much each paper tends to expand/using paper that doesn't stretch much when glued?
🎈🎈❤❤. May you receive lots of beautiful red balloons and hearts. You have a large heart that is sincere and gives and hope you receive in return. As for the red balloon--it is a reminder of nice hopes and dreams, which we can capture and float away up in the sky like a magical hot air balloon and that famous little move called the red balloon. Best.
