  • Get cozy and join me as I make a guestbook for a cabin in the Pacific Northwest! 🌲
    I'm very happy with how this book turned out, especially with the addition of the little wooden tag on the front cover. This is a larger book than my usual projects, so I needed to improvise a press. I used Bradel binding for the book.

    New to your channel and bookbinding. You make this look so easy, but I've tried 3 times, a little differently, with only passable results. Am I right that the book is only held in by the endpapers or does the bookblock get glued to the spine? Fascinating watching you work!

    A question: how much time do you leave the fabric and the book when it's done at the press?

    • @bittermelonbindery
      @bittermelonbindery  Год назад +1

      with this book I pressed it for 3-4 hours, but typically with other case bindings I press them overnight

    Yes, I watched this again, like my 6th time🙂. I have a couple of questions....where do you find your paper for the end papers, and do you prep the paper before adding to the book to make them stronger before adding the glue? Is it gift wrap? I want to make a large book like this one, but can’t find end papers large enough. Thank you for producing wonderful videos and your artistry is excellent.

    You amaze me everytime i watch you do bookbinding! I happy and fortunate enough i was able to purchase off your website a floral covered mini blank notebook. It looks so perfect like a machine made it. I've been using it for junk journaling and even though its getting stuffed with various types of medium it holds it's shape perfectly. I've also painted a few pages using watercolors and it never bleeds through to the next page. If you ever want me to promote your product's i would be honored to. No charge what so ever i have a website selling a few of my handcrafted items and using Google as my platform i get a decent amount of views each month over 1,000. Keep posting your great video's. Sincerely,
    Gina Barber 😁

    Hi! I've been having kind of a hard time making the case, I'm not sure what size to cut the spine board to. I used to measure the text block's spine + both cover boards, but I saw you made it only as wide as the text block's spine. Should I try it like that? :O Maybe it's been turning out weird for me because I have the measurements all wrong!

    Your work is beautiful! I've noticed you sometimes use a bristled brush for glue, and for others you use a sponge brush. Is there a particular reason? TIA

    • @bittermelonbindery
      @bittermelonbindery  Год назад +1

      Sponge brushes are more disposable than the bristled ones. I like the application of the sponges but glue will accumulate in them and I need to throw them out eventually. If you rinse glue off the bristled brushes regularly, they should last a long time. Bristled brushes should be good quality, check to see if bristles come loose easily before buying.

    • @nicolasbohnenberger7017
      @nicolasbohnenberger7017 Год назад

      @@bittermelonbindery Thank you for the reply! Will certainly keep it in mind when buying a new brush. Have had bad results with mine lately, hence the question. Will experiment with the sponge brushes too.
