Thank you so much. Teach them to build a cabin and they will look at life a lot differently. It’s really transformed the way we look at modern living and what’s important
Awesome video, love how you cut the music, the sound of yall working and communicating really makes your videos much better. Keep making the videos please.
I built a 12 x 12' log cabin back in the woods all alone. I know you are working with the sound of the wind and birds, with the clouds slowly rolling by, out in the beautifully of nature.
Thank you so much for supporting. My wife and I love West Virginia and looked at houses in VA but just couldn’t move from NH. But would absolutely love to have a spot down there.
You and your cuz are beasts 😉😜. it takes a lot of drive and determination to do a build like this. Love the channel and keep the videos coming !! 🙂✌🏼😎🥇🇺🇸🇺🇸😎
Glad you decided to document this process! Welcome to the Maine woods, it's a magical place and your sweat equity is going to make your own slice that much more magical for you guys!
@@Practicalforest nice that will be great! I’m looking forward to the video. We are having a big snowstorm up here. The snows coming over from Colorado through North Dakota and up into the prairie provinces of Canada. I will be posting a video shortly. It’s a big one.

Congrats on making your idea come together, love watching these video’s to brainstorm on my own ideas, nice work and keep up the hard work, hard work pays off man.
Thank you for watching and supporting man! I used to watch RUclips videos of this and it’s how I got my plans. I’m going to realize a video next week of how I found and bought the land. Hopefully they will be a big help in your plans
Great Job God Bless You and your family!!!!!!! I really want to do this for me and my family and you are inspiring me more everytime I watch your videos thank you!!!
Hey the build is looking great. Really nice job. Just noticed something, when you nail your studs to your plate, hold the top of the stud and nail the bottom first your hand will be as far away from the nail as possible. Also before the t11 get the bottom plate on a exterior line and put a few toe nails in the bottom plate to subfloor. When you stand it up , the wall wont try to slide on you and the nails pull themselves out as the wall goes up
Thank you for the advice brother. I am brand new to framing so everything was a huge learning curve. I still have the whole inside to do and will take your advice on the next cabin!
Living the dream!! I’m living vicariously through you as you build this amazing cabin! Great work!! I know how much and how hard it is to do! Keep it up! Maybe one day I’ll be asking your advice to do the same thing! 😊
Thank you so much for watching and supporting! You guys are welcome up anytime to try it out and see if you like the vibe. I’m guessing you’d both loveee it
Maybe after winter when things dry up some, you could make some improvements by hand to your footpath/ATV trail. Like filling in low spots, maybe adding some gravel or digging some swales to relieve standing water. Just a thought!
I’m going to release a video about the top five reasons Maine is better than Alaska! If you make the journey my friend reach out, I would love to help you anyway I can!
@@Practicalforest Thanks a lot!! I can tell you this where I’m at in Alaska is on the island and south east it’s a big rock hard to grow in and rains 200 inches a year!
Nice cabin build! The thumbnail says it's 12x20 but it's clearly not almost twice as long as it is wide. What are the dimensions you ended up choosing?
Great work! I love watching your vision come to life! Doing something like this has started to become a goal of mine within the past year. I have so many questions about the whole process including how to determine the piece of land to start with. Did you need permits etc? Did you do a boatload of research before deciding on the land you purchased?
Thank you so much for watching supporting! You are exactly where I was two years ago. I was watching off grid videos of cabins formulating exactly how I wanted to do it. Back when I first started planning there was really no way I could buy the land, it seemed impossible. But I figured out the general area where the land is cheapest and I started going up and going to the realtors offices and introducing myself. I’d have them give me a list of land that was for sale and I went to each piece and just hung out on it. Walked in the woods, figured out what trees the property had on it. At the same time I started saving and focusing. But I did research for 3 years before buying our piece of land. I didn’t pull any permits because there is no permit office where our land is at. Also if there is no septic being installed you don’t need a perk test. So we built in a way that didn’t require permits.
Nice build! Subscribed today and am watching a few of the videos. My wife and i are also building a 12x20 skillion roof offgrid cabin soon. 4:12 roof pitch right? What were the overall lengths of you roof joists also?
Hey Joe! Thanks for watching man. Hope your cabin build goes great! A skillion roof cabin is an amazing idea. I believe the roof is a 3/12 pitch. The back wall is 8ft tall, the front wall is 12ft tall. The rafter length is 16 feet.
THANK YOU for not putting a music (I call it noise) track in the background. That is just so annoying. I want to hear the sound of you working or just silence. Why does everyone have to always put background music in their videos? Our lives are just so filled with noise. It's refreshing that you don't do that. Thank you, again. My sister lives in Auburn. Sure is beautiful up there. Just too cold for this Arizona boy. Lol. Keep up the good work.
Love the feed back! Thank you so much for watching. Moving forward all videos will be in this style without any music! Not going to lie, I wish I was in Arizona this week. The brutal temps at night are staying to wear on me when I go up. We finished the roof and all the siding and will be dropping another video once I can edit the footsge
If you have to hand carry them in I would say they are fine, but if you can handle working with the 2x8 you get to opportunity to put better insulation in the floor. Congratulations on your build.
@Practicalforest actually I rewatched 12x20. I think a 9 foot span 12 om center with alot of blocking will be good in my application. I got the joist up yesterday. Plan to add blocking. It's yours pretty solid with added aupport?

I felt like putting the tall wall really transformed it!
You still need to put on the road at least half way back

Should have a header above the window
Thanks for the advice I’ll throw a header in!
You need headers above door, windows..

I will most definitely put the headers up! Thank you for the advice!
How big is the cabin you are building?
It’s a 12x20 with an 8 foot tall back wall and 12 foot tall front wall!
Are you planning to put a loft in your cabin?
Yes I’m going to put a loft in for storage on the right side above the bathroom and entry way!
Remote cabins are awesome...until the hairyman starts slapping the side and you don't have an enclosed escape route and the women scream all night
Hahaha so funny. Let’s just say we keep a little something around for anyone who is knocking on the sides of the cabin!
2X6 FLOOR JOIST?
