Follow along where the pavement ends and the power stops and learn with us while we develop 30 acres of rugged Maine forest into a beautiful, self sufficient camp and cabin.
When we are not roughing it in the deep wilderness we homestead in Southern, NH. Explore a life of self sufficiency as we raise chickens, train our Aussie Shepard to heard, fix and maintain our home and discuss and explain how we are able to live the lifestyle we do.
We didn’t sell our house, we aren’t quitting our jobs, we didn’t get an inheritance and we are not digital nomads. We are set out to prove that having an off grid piece of heaven or a modern homestead can be done practically and affordable with a little know-how, heart and elbow grease.
Get hands on knowledge and walk throughs of equipment repair and how to videos. Plant seeds with us in the garden. Check on the game trail cameras. Walk or ride through the woods with us to peaks and unique sites in the North East

Enjoy the videos, im about to do something of the same soon as I find my property, keep on keeping on 🤙💯🤙
Awesome!!! Good luck finding your property! I know you will get a good piece of land.
Absolutely loved the video. Crystal clear and honest. great work!
Thank you so much!! Hopefully I can put out some more videos now that my daughter is older!
Also used to LOVE playing RuneScape, nice skill cape!
love the blink tattoo!
I’m surprised you noticed! I’ve had that since I was 17 😂😂
@ a blink fan always notices! Love the cabin video though! Can’t wait to see what you do with the property! Debt is dumb, cash is king!
New video needed (7) momths
Filming a video as we speak! Been so busy with the painting company & new baby!
How much money did you spend to construct the site? Eg. Ate, fuel, materials, excavation, etc.
Without the land I probably spent 20/25k
I would love to hear your thoughts on starting a business or side hustle. I enjoy your style and have learned a lot from you. I especially appreciate the fact that you are documenting your experience not as a RUclipsr.
Can't wait for the next episode.
Saw this and your last video. Hope all is going well with the property and the kid! You've done so much in a year, congratulations and best wishes!
Less talking might get more views
Glad to see you building that's it.
I noticed on your flyover that you guys have a lot of skinny firewood laying on the ground all we need now is a chainsaw.
Wow this is amazing!! Just found Chanel! I’m 52 and in Alabama and this has been my dream for most of my life! Would love some information on property .. I hope you and your family are well!!
that land needs some good cleanup.
I love what you do.
My Brother and I just got land in ME, moving 6 hours from MA to build our dream. I love your content. Thank you for sharing.
Look around you. You are remote, you don't have to proof a point & work harder, work smarter.. Make that road to your cabit....One day you can drive your wife & baby to the door when it's raining & cold.
You seem to be a good guy . The type of person I'd like to get to know. The idea of you being totally open about this journey and willing to help others do the same thing is awesome.
Thank you for the kind words brother! I appreciate you watching
Oh my goodness, Your wife is adorable and I love her sense of humor. I can't imagine how you got a mud patty on your butt in that location. But it was funny . I will be looking forward to you finishing the cabin when the weather is more cooperative.
Thank you man, I swear when I kneel the back of my heel touches my pants and that’s how I get the stain 😂 my daughter was born in December of 2023 so we’ve taken a year off to make sure she is growing up properly before we go back up and film more. So next year I promise some awesome videos
Why not make the road first. Even if its just a decent 4 wheeler path?
Thank you for watching. To be honest my wife was pregnant and I knew we had to have the structure water tight before the winter and the baby came so we said screw the road let’s just build as fast as possible
Did you get a chance to get up and finish the cabin at all?
Thanks for checking in man! We have made it up twice with the baby and installed the door and a few windows. Next year when my daughter is older we will be spending way more time out there
How will you insulate the floor for the plumbing not to freeze in winter. for sure, you could use this in the winter using a skidoo
Hey buddy the floor is insulated but we won’t ever have plumbing up there. It’s way to far and remote for anything but a composting toilet
Great job on building the cabin bc I love living in the woods
This guy talks too much
Ladies and getleman if you decide to do this PLEASE build a path to the job or youll spend A LOT of time taking small loads only or stopping everyfew feet to check/secure the loads
Awesome video, love how you cut the music, the sound of yall working and communicating really makes your videos much better. Keep making the videos please.
Have you done a cost breakdown video?
Great video. I hope to see more. The only thing i might change is remove the music and crank rhe nature sounds. I love the content brother Great job 👍
Thank you so much Mike. I really appreciate you supporting us. I’m glad you got your own slice of America in TN!
We are building on our secluded 30 acre lot in east Tennessee. We moved here from NH to escape the cold. Let freedom Ring brother. Great job. Its your life, your land, so you do it your way. I just found your channel and look forward to seeing more. Take care buddy.
Thank you for watching Mike. I’m just checking these comments. I’m praying for you and your family that you weren’t affected by the hurricane.
Great job . Great positive energy and message about being in the forest i feel that.. Thank you i cant wait to start mine in Van Buren ME soon
Currently I'm living in Belding Michigan, but I'm thinking about selling everything off, & moving East of Memphis Tennessee. My goal is to build on roughly between a 5 & 10 acre plot, at least a 14X28 cabin to start. Then possibly within up to 2 years later build another same size to match, to make a it a 28X28 Because I'd like to have 2 bedrooms because I'll renter to help with the build.
i get that same mud stain haha i am building a similar cabin right now, no power to the site and just my wife for the occasional extra hand, and the similarities between this video and my lived experience of the build is uncanny. you learn so much and get so creative through the struggle, and the payoff is indescribable. congrats on accomplishing your goal and living the dream man
I would love the blue print.
The tricky part is how to defend the property if you don't stay there fulltime. Speaking from learning my own hard lessons in life.
What size nails did you use for the siding?
蚊子多不?。。。蝦折騰了
Comments! Congratulations for doing what your doing. 99%of the population would not and could not do and or attemp to build a cabin! RYOBI!!!! Don't knock it. I've been using RYOBI for 15yrs plus. And next time you build. Try and use 6x6 and get a level line and notch for the rim joist. Make a cradle. Very strong.
Man i would love to do what your doing me and my wife want to start a new beginng. We both have been clean for yrs and just wanna leave the past in the past and get the hell out of jersey. Nj just really sux atlantic city is horrible. Just need some money.im trying to apply for loans.maybe i can start a go fund me . But your channel is great inspiration for me man. Keep up the awesome work dude.
Just celebrated 5.5 years clean brother. Keep going, it gets better. I agree get the f out of NJ!
I have watched so many different cabin builds some with logs some as you are doing and this rates as one of my favorites, will be rewatching it with my wife she loves this kind of video as well. And hopefully God willing we can do this in the next year or so.
Thank you so much!! I feel like a lot of other cabin builds are built but professional RUclipsrs so you don’t get an actual feel for how it’s done when you are a regular person would has a job and a family and doesn’t have unlimited resources and time.
@@Practicalforest Your welcome.

Deixo aquí essa dica ,me descuide o desabafo . Mas podes crer fica a dica .A gente quer ver o desenrolar do trabalho ,ja chegar e ja ir se mexendo ,desenvolvendo o trabalho. Descupe me .
You're an inspiration...great job putting one video together from many...I was born in Bath, Maine and thought of going back most of my life. Well, now as I'm getting older I can't fight the feeling anymore 😁, sounds like a song haha. But I'm on the verge of buying 11+ archers not far from Skowhegan. It's all woods and not developed. My cabin plan is a bit bigger than yours and I plan on solor and wind for power. There's a seasonal stream on it too, and being Maine, water won't be an issue 😊. Hopefully by the end of August I'll be there. I plan on LIVING in a large 16' teepee tent like a yurt. Things that make me go hmmm 😂🤣😂🤣. Jerry
Jerry! Thanks for checking in! I am so happy that you have the calling to be in the woods and to live raw and rough!! I’m up in the Lincoln area and would love to tell you everything I know (which is very little) lol End of August will be a beautiful time to start, way less buggy and won’t have that humid Maine heat! Stay in touch brother I’ll try and release another video soonn
Why not build a 8’ wall then add the 4’ on top?
It was my first time really building anything so we did what we could. My next cabin will be built a lot differently
@@Practicalforest Well I think you are fortunate to be living your dream! Curious, what’s two things you would do differently on your next build?
Hi , your channel is amazing; I've never seen this type of restoration work before. We would like to show part of your videos in some video/s report about your channel. We will add your link, your name, and your work will be mentioned in the video.
Thank you so much. You are more than welcome too!

@@Practicalforest Sure, We´ll do! :)
Hi, you say the moisture barrier you put up last on the front side bec you ran out of the other one is not the same as you say. Can we agree that the moisture in a house comes from the inside. Americans make there house so odd, to us. From the warm inside of a house you shall have a moisture barrier so you do NOT get wet inside the walls/floor and ciling. Using only Tyvek on the outside and make a ventilated wall from the outside is the better way to do it. Now you got a plywood that is filled with glue and can not breathe and on that a roofing waterproof "paper", no chans for the walls to breath to the outside and your moisture gona stay in the walls. Also no ventilated roof. I also wonder why all do there flooring first, now you got a wet insulation in the floor and same there no moisture membran and why install plywood between the wall and the floor all the way to the outside. Now you can not lift the floor sheets and dry the floor insulation. Much better to just install the floor joists and do the rest when the house is water proof.
Looking really good! I know you posted this about 5 months ago, but, have you installed flashing between your upper and lower T111 panels?
I know I am due for another video soon! We had our first kid and was only able to get up there once this season, I didn’t flash the t-111 yet but will next time I go up. I might just put some heavy silicone caulk in it. Thankfully the over hang on the roof keeps the sides pretty dry!
Clean your path
I will make it my goal before the year is over to get a real nice trail into the camp!
@@Practicalforest it will make your trips with materials easier and faster
I totally agree! I did it the super hard way for no reason lol
@@Practicalforest I do it all the time. I do enjoy your videos. Just worry every time you go in and out. You aren't doing anything wrong.
Make more videos 😂😂
I’ve got some footage I’m putting together bro! I will release next month a long episode. Thanks for the support!!!!
next time a little site prep pre build would go a long way. just a day or two with a rented mini excavator would have elimated so many problems and site issues
For real that’s so true! It was my first ever build, if I ever buy another piece or build another cabin I’m going to do it the way you suggested
Looks great Grandpa were right once the foundation up it easy peeze Limon 🍋 squeeze
Thanks for watching and supporting 🙏🏼 Grandpa is usually always right lol
Did you have to get any permits for your cabin?
No permits my friend. I don’t believe in giving money to the government for no reason
@@Practicalforest nice!!
Not to sound super radical but there is no government in the town we built in, so they would take my money for no reason.
