oh that is because you gotta open the jar file with java se binary and it will pop up the optifine installer

OptiFine HD U J1 for Minecraft 1.21.1 supports Forge 52.0.16
And stated at 0:33 you should get the optifine version compatible with forge. Although as of writing this, the above statement I made would be more relevant hopefully

Opening Minecraft with worked at first but as soon as I restarted Minecraft after putting the optifne file into the forge file thingy, my Minecraft always crashed when I opened it with forge

I got Forge installed and added Optifine to the mods folder and when I start up the game I do not have the Optifine extra options to select (which is annoying as I want to select to show FPS in the top left) but I can use C to zoom in the game so my wild guess is that the most recent Forge is bugged and needs fixing.

Indeed, unfortunately 1.21.3 Optifine isn't compatible with Forge yet, but 1.21.1 should be all good to go
