I am off today due to illness (during summer, really?!), and my fantastic wife has stepped up and delivered her first ever cameo on the channel, so make sure to give her a warm welcome!
Now, this video is all about Total War Pharaoh Dynasties and what this new edition might mean for the Total War series as a whole. I believe Pharaoh Dynasties does an incredible job of bringing back that essential Total War campaign feel and atmosphere, namely by offering a massive campaign map, while also integrating new features like dynasties and family trees, small outposts outside of the larger cities, royal courts with intrigue mechanics, and ancient legacies to spice up the feel of every campaign.
I think Pharaoh Dynasties is the closest thing we've come to a genuine historical and grounded Total War campaign in a very long time, and I truly hope that whatever CA brings out next, that it will learn from Dynasties and CA Sofia, and take its strengths further.
But what do you think Pharaoh Dynasties might mean for the future, if anything at all? Let me know in the comments, and make sure to leave a like, a comment, and subscribe to the channel! :)

Andy, your wife is a champ
For the first 5 seconds I thought ‘Andy sounds different’😂
hmm :P
Me too.
And because the channel profile pic changed I thought I had accidentally clicked on the wrong video. 😂
The first 5 seconds? I thought he sounded different the whole video…
It's Andrea's Take
Damm Andy, hope you feel better soon and make a full recovery! Much love and amazing Wife for doing this for you!
Thank you my friend! I'm a very lucky guy!
Andy’s wife is a gem to do this.
A wife who is a fan of Total War?
This is the best DLC ever!
Dude got an exclusive, secret DLC lucky lad
Hearing a member of the female species cover total war, let alone historical total war is a first, I think.
It is scary
"The other half of our species" lol
I remember there were a lass playing Rise of the Republic faction, just forgot the name of her channel
@@idontlikerome2744 I’d like to know this.
Caught me off guard for a sec, but a nice surprise that you are delivering the good word. Best wishes to your husband!
My first time on this channel and, wow, that’s true partnership right here
I think we're way overdue for another gunpowder Total War game. Empire 2, Pike and Shot era, or something in the 19th century would be awesome.
American Civil War perhaps? Or the second German Empire with Bismarck?
@@TheLeemaVids Both would be interesting, tbh. Maybe if they did something like with Kingdoms for Medieval 2.
@@TheLeemaVids Why not both? With a big map like Empire TW
Total war Warhammer 4 instead
@@TheLeemaVids They can do the civil war with empire like they have before. Empire 2 is way over due at this point but that would mean they would have to bring back naval combat which they abandoned long ago. Probably too much investment for them.
Now this is a gender reveal
LMAO
Now this is pod racing!

Andy's wife killing it out here! Amazing job & great video as always. Here's hoping our boy gets his voice back soon
Surprisingly good narrating from your wife, Andy. Props to her.
First time seeing this channel, it was wholesome. The fact that your wife did an entire dedicated video for you is awesome.
They should have spent that time remastering Medieval 2 total war.
Would really love a Medieval 2 remastered
why u want them wasting time on remastering go play medieval 2 with mods
@@khal7702 mods have limits though, Rome remasted looks way better than any mod could have made the original game look. And with the mod support it has, you can only imagine the possibilities we would have, if they remasterd the most beloved Total War game - Medieval II
I’ll be real and say I’m honestly waiting for Shogun 3 more
I wan't Medieval 3 more Medieval 2 remastered
More like damage control after they wanted to really pickpocket their customer with inferior products. They try this all the time. The insanely expensive DLC in historic total wars, the Rome 2 release. The censorship on the forums for simple criticism and then again trying to make $$ with inferior DLC
Boy Andy sure sounds different today
What pneumonia does to someone's voice man...
Not until the Empire 2

@@virmontis2754 I'd love that. I'd also love something from the era of Fall of the Samurai. Its time for 1800's content.
@@swissarmyknight4306 that could be included in empire2 like an extra campaign
God no. There's no way CA wouldn't screw that up by making a mechanically backwards, DLC laden, dumbed down and streamlined big steaming mess.
@@virmontis2754
Ladies and gentlemen: the "I'm totally a fan of the old games even though i started with Warhammer" mindset.
No, it shouldn't be a dlc. If were gonna make dlcs for games like the old stuff it should be the whole of asia. The whole of africa. Not just one friggin nation.
Empire was not just Europe it had India and the americas
I hope Andy gets better soon. Miss his videos. But good job Nabine (apologies if spelt wrong)
Neven :) And thank you so much!

Completely agree about the family tree mechanics. Thats table stakes at this point for a historical TW title.
Shogun 2 was peak total war
GREAT VIDEO. thank you for taking over your husband's work, and I hope he gets better
Andy your wife is a real one. Splendid job on the video. Get well our friend, Andy
Pharoah is still 1/10th the game compared to Rome 1 and Medieval 2.
And the mods for the remaster have some of the largest maps and factions in any total war game.
This really isn't the historical title we are looking for. We want the old tactical interactions back, a world map to play on with a good variety of factions and playstyles, and logistic features. Pharoah slapped on a bunch of cities, but it's the most simplistic of all the historical titles. Don't let God rays fool you, there is actually far less to this game than Rome 2 or Empire total war. Hell even Thrones of Britannia is more interesting from a tactical and logistical perspective.
I would say it has a good variety of factions and cultures after the update (like Egyptian. Hittite, Babylonian, Assyrian, Elamite, Mycenaean/Greek, Thracian, Cimmerian, Canaanite, Nubian, Libu, Urartian, Sardinian/Italian) and definitely is more complex than Rome 2, are you sure you remember vanilla Rome 2 and not some mod like DEI that adds a ton of complexity that vanilla Rome 2 didn't have?
I'm not saying Pharaoh is perfect and there will be some mods that make cities/buildings and trade more complex and add things like a population system, kind of like DEI, which will make Pharaoh much better, but even now it's not the most simplistic tw title.
If some old peoples remenber "conquest of the new world" it was a awesome conquer/colonization game: battles were like some kind of checkboard but were still cool for the 90s. There was a lot of building cites and ressources logistics, this type of game combined with total war batles would be awesome. CA have to renew the genre badly. A little bit like M&B should have integrate Crusader kinds gameplay outside of battles. CA assembly could also have create their own M&B lol... This company make the same game since they born...
@lp4514 agreed, this is also my point. Pharoah Is a great canvas, for them to create another masterpiece. but I play total war games all the time and I can't help but pick up on how much is lost. Plus I miss the European factions
I really believe that scope doesn't make game great, Shogun 2 was my favorite because it localized the warfare n had better focus. Now Dynasties is great, it adds a lot that future total wars should implement. Forts, civil wars done right, each major faction having different mechanics n much more.
Thanks Neven and Andy, you guys are the definition of "Keep up the good work" ❤
Aw shoot! Sorry to hear about Andy!.... Hope he gets well soon.... thanks to your wife taking over for a bit!
Too early to celebrate. I want to see them release a major historical title without dropping the ball for once.
Good lad Andy is and his lady is a kind for this hope you get better soon Andy
Wow, awesome kudos to Andy's wife! You're a keeper, for sure.

Sad to hear that you are not feeling well but your wife delivered an amazing video, I hope that you get well soon, love from Sweden❤️🇸🇪
Hope you get better soon, love your videos!
Great job, Wife of Andy!
This just goes to show that the Warhammer fanbase has totally taken over total war. Nobody wants "faction mechanics". The idea that Prussia doesn't play different than Britain in an empire is a joke. The idea that not having faction mechanics hurt the game is a joke. The idea that the empire is somehow even more accurate historically than anything in the old school games is a straight up middle finger to the old fanbase. Pharaoh didn't succeed because it made old total war fans happy. It succeeded because Warhammer fans are braindead consumers.
Good. Fuck medieval whiney babies.
Wishes for fast recovery Andy!
Andy, god bedring! But also - consider having your wife join you for more content! She is a great narrator, and I think collab videos between the two of you could add even more to the channel!

Wishing Andy well, and hope for a speedy recovery!
Miss Wife, you have to take into consideration Shogun 2 with its campaing. Altough small and focused solely on Japan, it worked amazingly well due to the Sengoku Jidai era as well as the Boshin War. This could be used for China and the Warring States period if made historical and not that slop we got with Three Kingdoms.
Here's hoping that Andy recovers soon!
Appreciation comment and for pushing the algorithm❤🎉great job!
Okay... but why does Andy's wife (sorry, don't know how to spell the name) sound exactly like Andy. Intonation, accent, all of it is just like a female version of Andy lol. Champion stuff!
I hope your husband recovers well!
I will add the same as Medjay here! great content as always,

Only time will tell, if historical Total War has come back.
As for myself, I am still not going to give Total War: Pharaoh a chance.
One of us! One of us! One of us!
Seeing the thumbnail and the title I though Total war now have plan to release medieval 3 total war
This is the Ultimate Bronze Age Total War Game!
Get better soon Andy, gj on the misses for jumping in.

Thought Andy had hit reverse puberty! Good job carrying the mantle Andy Wife, while Andy recovers.
Hope you feel better soon Andy! The wife did a great job! I agree with your sentiment about Dynasties redeeming Pharoah, it is just a shame that it first had to release in the horrible state it was in for release.
Fantastic job holding the fort for Andy! Though I hope he is doing okay 🙂 Force him to rest… resting to get 100% better is never fun but it is so necessary.
This is so wholesome. But also, well done, ma'am!
You’re awesome for taking up the mantle for this vid. I hope your husband is feeling better!
There is great significance with the passage of time!!
I was wondering why Andy stopped giving us his “take” on everything… Im glad he got well!
Petition to rename the channel to Andy's Wife's Take, which may feature guest stars such as Andy.
People really need to stop buying these lazy cashgrabs. I can't tell you how sick I am of how the boring stuff, like managing your family and meaningless events, gets more and more complex every year and time consuming, but we can't build forts on the map to control areas like we could in Rome I. I want to have more strategic options, I want to know where allies are coming from before I start a battle. I don't give a shit about the arbitrary loyalty of some nonsense picture card, I couldn't care less about that "+2 command" stat
Not the best fan of Andy, but he owes you for doing this for him. Great work.
Did they blackwash the Egyptians
Well Andy's Wife, that was every bit as good as if Andy had brought us this video himself, I'm well impressed. Please give my best to Hubby & wish him a speedy recovery. Thanks :)
Love this format and your covering of Total War, feel free to take the staff from your husband from time to time!
Agree. loving this game. And the combat... my god. We are so back!
I hope Andy gets better
The "unique mechanics" (ancient legacies) in Pharaoh sound good on paper, but are nothing more than flavour mini games adding nothing to the main loop.
You can go along a full campaign without touching the "Ancient Legacies" systems (or the court for that matter).
We need CA to step in and design a game around a few core mechanics with meaningful and stategic decisions (which punish the player for making a bad decision in some cases).
Being it in the form of "unique mechanics per faction" or a few core mechanics for all factions, they should add something to the core game loop.
Kudos to Andy for finding a girl who plays strategy games lol
Nope Most of player just want big battle. With the court I can find myself King of the Universe figthing Big civil war.
@@bnjmndrf1055
Everybody has a personal opinion of course.
Although according to the player counts and Pharaoh & Troy's reception (and commercial/financial failure) don't seem to like the direction CA has been taking the games in.
You can have big battles in all TW games, that's a given and the point of the game.
So the channel is in regency now. But who is the heir?
Congrats to Andy's wife for the effort! There is only 1 thing that I still hate in Dynasties, and miss in the old game. Starting with more than 1 region. This would allow you a lot of flexibility in terms of management and expansion. In Warhammer & Shogun it made sense for everyone to start with only 1 region, but not in every other Total War game. I miss playing as an actual country or state rather than 1 single town. If in Dynasties the major factions & rulers would start with say 2 full regions, they would truly feel Major both when playing with and against them.
Only a few factions start with literally just one region/town, most start with 2 or 3 and there are also some that have more. With Assyria (the minor faction) you start with 6 regions, with Merneptah you start with 5 and Amenmesse and Agamemnon have 4 regions.
Also there isn't really a difference between major and minor factions in terms of size or power, like Assyria and Merneptah (the current Pharaoh, so he's the main Egypt at the start of the campaign) are minor factions while Ramses who basically historically was still a nobody at the beginning of the campaign (which is why it makes sense for someone like him to only control a few towns) without any power is a major faction.
@@lp4514 There is a huge gap between the 2-3 starting towns in Dynasties and the number of starting towns in older Total War that I was talking about, where you actually felt like you ruled a country.
That's the issue, there should really be a difference between major and minor factions in terms of size or power, that's why they are called minor and major.
@@catalinmarius3985 All the factions I played in older Total Wars also had only 2-4 regions, like House of Julii/Scipii in Rome 1 had 2 regions, Romans in Rome 2 had 4 regions, England in Medieval 2 had 3 regions, England in Empire had 3 regions. The only exception was Eastern/Western Rome in Attila. I guess you were always playing the ones that start with more, but I'm pretty sure most factions in older total wars also started with just 2-4 regions. Personally I prefer that, to start small and get a big country over time (and often it just takes 15-20 turns to conquer 10+ settlements anyway, so doesn't take that long until you play as a big country).
And as I said the terms "major" and "minor" factions have nothing to do with the size and power of a faction neither in the game nor historically, the developers explained that this is only about how much features a faction has (major factions have a unique faction leader with character art, some unique buildings, more unique units etc. and minor factions don't have those things).
I had a thought. CA was big into adding more historical and plausible female characters. But why no queens? if the heir is still a child you get a high chance to get a free regent queen character. Think of cleopatra, bilqis, zenobia, mavia or boudica.
Thank you Niveen!
It might be an unpopular opinion but I'd love to have a 1650's total war game with the battlefield shared between guns and swords and canons, siege warfare, wars of religion, exploration of new world and Asia... That would be so cool.
Wow thank you for Andy's wife! ❤
0:19 those blue-shielded falangites look amazing, what faction is that?
One of the Assyrian/Mesopotamian factions!
I can't imagine going back to something like this after playing TW: Warhammer, Anbennar or DaC.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Damn, Andy , you have amazing supportive wife
Get well soon Andy 😊
I think it's overly optimistic that total war is "saved" because they released one good title. But, CA seems to be for now on a good path, let's hope they can stick to it.
Great work, do you play TW too. That's an unfair and amazing power couple thing if so, playing campaigns together would be amazing...you could trade in 3 dimensions. I'll help you in that war if you do the dishes for a week or something...or surprise attack your spouse cause their chicken was overcooked...just amazing
Thank you! And stop giving me ideas on how to own Andy, he can only take so much!

Bye-bye Andy, we don't need you anymore, as long as we have your wife with us.😏
I've been complaining about not getting a medieval 3 since the first Warhammer came out. It could be a massive and great experience if it came out today but I'm also not holding my breath because I've been let down hard before with past releases.

Question for the good peoples.
Do you prefer the Rome 2/Warhammer etc. type of city building with limited number of build slots. Or, Med 2 type where every settlement can eventually build almost every building, with distinctions between castles and city.
Personally the Med 2 city building style is by far my favourite but wondering what everyone else likes.
I played all Total war games, since 1999 Shogun Total War. My only gripe is that battle mechanics did not change much. Its always 20 v 20 for the past 25 years, but ok, your information for Pharoh got me interested.
