Rafer Alston: How “Skip 2 my Lou” went from AND1 STREETBALL LEGEND to LEGIT NBA POINT GUARD | FPP

  • Rafer Alston may not have been anything to write home about in the NBA, but he still had a respectable decade long career in which he was an above average starter for many of those years, even helping the Dwight Howard led Orlando Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals. He didn't make it easy for himself to get to the NBA and played three seasons at three different colleges. His one year of D1 basketball at Fresno State was marred with controversy, so he would declare for the draft and get selected by Milwaukee on potential alone. He wouldn't play much for the Glenn Robinson, Ray Allen and Sam Cassell led Milwaukee Bucks. But it was during what would have been his rookie season, that he changed the basketball landscape forever. A streetball tape known as "The Skip Tape" took over and when the AND1 brand got their hands on it, "Skip 2 my Lou" became a household name with his never before seen moves on the playgrounds around New York. Alston's tape inspired a movement, which became the AND1 mixtape era, as streetball became a viable option for people wanting to make a living off of basketball as it led to worldwide tours and even video games. In the NBA, Alston found a fit on the Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming led Houston Rockets and would even be a top 10 assist man in the NBA one year. His career wouldn't end how he would have liked as attitude problems forced him out of the league. But Rafer blazed a trail for young playground ballers, while also showing that anyone can make it to the NBA, no matter your background, and he deserves his flowers for what he did for the entire game of basketball.

How did he lack sound fundamentals, see this is why I don’t like these type of videos of dudes talking about things they don’t truly know about. Yes you love basketball but you don’t truly know the game the way your acting like you do, his game was built off of fundamentals and that’s who he become so creative with that ball in his hand. Don’t disrespect the people your talking about and clearly making money off of, keep it respectful and don’t be one of those guys who uses other people because they lack talent themselves and don’t respect the people they talk about!

I completely agree with you. Rafer was masterful with the fundamentals, which enabled him to be creative smh, the problem is these pundits and super sideline sports commentators & some coaches, forget to tell these kids, you cannot do the exceptional &/or creative until you master the fundamentals, like Rafer has. @@mongoslade277 facts, people really need to start putting it out there and remind the committee of what this guy did in the 2000s. They always talk about the pro basketball HOF is about contributing to the game and pushing it forward. Like with all due respect to the guy because he was a hell of a player, but Yao Ming is in practically because he helped the game explode in popularity in China and all of Asia. He was a great player but he does not have the stats for the hall of fame. I'm not gonna say Skip made as big of a impact but it was still huge nonetheless

Perfect example of his game, not being able to translate; a below average NBA player at Best. He had a lot of turnovers, couldn’t shoot freethrows, terrible three-point-shooter, etc. NOW street ball absolutely legend, BUT in my opinion He’s the reason why the NBA stays away from these type of guys

Rafer Could've went to the League out of HIGH SCHOOL ‼️
They ONLY REASON he didn't take that chance because STEVE FISHER~michigan, JIM BOEHEIM~syracuse, JERRY TARKANIAN~unlv and Rick Barnes~clemson
Was ALL PLAYING ROCK PAPERS SCISSORS
JUST TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH HIM‼️🤣😅😆😂
HE WAS THE TRUE MEANING OF PRODIGY ‼️
HE DID THINGS WITH A 🏀 THAT MADE YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC 🧙🏿 EVERYTIME YOU WENT TO HIS GAMES IN THE 90'S‼️‼️‼️
THE NBA REFS DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO OFFICIATE SOMEBODY WITH A GAME LIKE RAFER'S‼️‼️‼️
NOBODY IN THE NBA PAST OR PRESENT
      (INCLUDING KYRIE ‼️)
      COULD MANIPULATE A 🏀 SO EFFORTLESSLY‼️
He's been Tormenting COLLEGE STARS, AND NBA PROS SINCE THE AGE OF 14‼️

    • @MrGuruDaClownHunter

@tbeyah Rafer did for Street Basketball 🏀 (IMPACT WISE‼️What Jackie Robinson did for Baseball‼️
And He followed in the Footsteps OF LIVING LEGENDS who was ROCKSTARS IN THE HOOD WITH 🚫 SOCIAL MEDIA (you had to read HOOP🏀 SCOOP MAGAZINE)
LIKE LLOYD DANIELS, LEW ALCINDOR, KENNY ANDERSON, ROD STRICKLAND ‼️
AND AT THE TIME, ANYTHING THAT HAD TO DO WITH BASKETBALL 🏀
STARTED AND ENDED IN NEW YORK‼️
YOU WOULDN'T EVEN BE ABLE TO PROPERLY KEEP YOUR COMPOSURE As a 14 - 15 yr old‼️🤣😅😆😂
YOU Don't Understand because you wouldn't be able to BEGIN TO relate to Rafer‼️ Even if you Lived 10 LIFETIMES ‼️ YOU WOULDN'T COME CLOSE‼️🤣😅😆😂🤣😅😆😂
