--------
In the latest clip, Rafer Alston talked about playing half of his high school career for legendary coach Ron Naclerio. The coach sent tapes of Alston to AND1 and Alston recalled playing against future NBA stars Allen Iverson, Antoine Walker, and Chauncey Billups. Despite his promising career, Alston began skipping school and was forced to bounce around different high schools. Due to his bad grades, top universities didn't recruit him and he was forced to start his college career in JUCO.
This brothers drive is unmatched, most street ball legends couldn’t get over the hump after falling victim to the streets & failing academically. Salute to him & who pushed him. It will always take a village.
Alot of street ballers couldn't adjust to organized ball. You can't carry or double dribble making alot of them ineffective. Combine that with play calling and sharing the ball and it wasn't an easy transition for most of them. Not that they couldn't but old habits stick around.
@@elijaharvinger8711 they couldn’t adjust because most of them are/were very little too...
@@elijaharvinger8711 mostly the case is that they were just lazy
@@rosakop1 lol no. They were just short and played well before their time. Professor is a perfect example. Dude a string bean. Even skip. If he was 6’6 like Ben, he would be an all star and I have no doubt
Huh ? He got over the hump
Allen Iverson and Tony Rutland was the backcourt for Bethel High school 1991 to 1993. Then in 94 Tony was by himself because Allen got hemmed up. Tony played at Wake Forest with Tim Duncan but tore his knee up in college
Never knew Tony Rutland was from the 757 or played with Chuck. He was nice @ Wake Forrest .
@@dmelvin5858 yes sir..his senior year he dropped 50 plus on my high school 3 different times that season. Twice in the regular season and in the post season tournament
@@trueskool1977 God damn, 50 ball three times on the same squad in the same season is serious work man
@@MRBBALLMAN10 yep...but we beat him all 3x. He was a deadly 3 point shooter
They were splash brothers those yrs lol .Use play against them in Summer lgs in Norfolk ,Va . 757 we play them sports
Allen Iverson was a beast! Football and basketball.
4:04 "...we come from an environment, that didn't bother us. We seen the worst." That statement speaks volumes to our Black, African-American, Negro resilience.
So true
🤦🏾♂️
One of my fav streetballes. Skip to my Lou, Hot Sauce, Professor. Skip started everything
Those were my 3 favs too, in that order
Rs And1 street ball needs come back 💯
My favorite is your Mom I love the way she post me up
Skip on ANOTHER level than those guys.
@@thefamily5357 yea I’m a have to disagree, skip is The Godfather of modern streetball. Especially being from nyc, this dude was a basketball God. When he would show up to Rucker there wouldn’t be a place to sit or stand.
Said iverson name once and he’s on the title lol
You watchedthe entire video though $$$
Man low key pissed me off with the misleading title
😂
Business first..
@@louiethexiii1 No, my jaws are straight tight cuz vlad definitely got me to click because of the title.
I DONT WATCH vlad VIDS!!
He got me dis time!!
Chris Herron his Fresno teammate would be a great interview for Vlad… That team had Championship talent, but major locker room issues with gang friction amongst teammates
I thought I was the only one that knew about Fresno state, Chris Herron, Rafer Alston, Tremaine Foulks, etc. I used to record every game I could. Chris would be a good interview. He had an interesting journey
Yeah that would be a great interview
Hands down Here on documentary will have you in tears👍💯
Nahh we good on that! We need success stories... not ngahs that almost made it ! Lol he had thesame struggle as Skip, but skip was smart enough to know what he needed to do... let's Shine the Light on Skip ! True Legend not no Street Legend
Got to see chris speak at a college at SCS University and his story was dope ups and downs
Skip was a streetballer who MADE IT to the NBA big dawg 🐐’d
His journey is the goat!!
everyone was a streetballer at one time
Shotti older brother
😂😂😂😂
Facts 😂😂
Lmao
😂😆😆😂
Yup
Legendary Hood Balla,,Everybody was copying his moves back in the early 2000s🤣💪🏿!! Respect to da Bro skip his games was legendary in my hood

Couldn’t wait to get the and ones from footlocker that came with the free dvd

I love the basketball interviews!!! A sit down with Skip is the best of both worlds in streetball and pro ball... Great interview!!! Much appreciated...
If “believe n yourself , follow your heart WHOLEHEARTEDLY” was a person
The more I watch this dudes interviews I realize he was a Rebel . Unique journey but never once did he lack belief in himself ! And what he wanted !
And1 Mix Tapes were beyond lit!! 💯✊🏽
He mentioned playing AI in high school for TWO seconds. Click bait title bruh
Worked though 😂😂
@@dontbother4536 corny though 😂😂😂
Literally, seconds!
Thought he was gonna go into detail how they battled each other majorly or something!! 😐😐😐
Damn, clickbait!!😂🤦♂️🤦♂️
Got us again 😅
The best person you’ve interviewed by far
That skip v alimoe tape was underrated 🥶
RIP Alimoe, one of the coldest
Fukkin legend right here. Grew up on them AND1 tapes.
That man deserve a movie!!!!!! Skip to my Lou went to the nba finals so what he lost but he loved his dream
I really liked Skip when he was in the League with Orlando and Houston Rockets. He was ballin in the Playoffs with Orlando, when Jamir Nelson was hurt.
Facts
Right on!!! He was ballin in the Finals
Can Gundy screwed up when he put Nelson back in the starting lineup replacing Skip. Completely ruined their chemistry
@@mrblackstar74 Series would have been much more competitive if he had kept Skip starting!
@@mrblackstar74 I swear bruh I think about that every time I see skip on something. Might’ve cost them a chip
Real talk from a real man and man had heart for days never gave up and made it out
Shottie think he slick🤣🤣
I remember meeting him, Hot Sauce and Air Up There at Arden fair mall when I was like 10. Foot action was lit that day
Skip…. He was given a ticket and a free ride to Fresno to play for “The Shark”💯💪🏾 Alimoe aka “Black. window got the same offer. Sold the tickets and disregarded his whole life. Smh. Like why would you turn down Jerry Tarkanian? This was a coach who let hood talent play their game long as you follow the rules of carrying your self like a man. Smh.. rest in piece Tyrone Evans🕊💯💪🏾🙏🏾
From Jamaica Queens to Fresno, California. Now that's a journey.
Tony Rutland. Iverson's highschool teammate and he played for Wake Forrest i think
A well spoken brother 💯
0:00-0:130....Reminds me of the " Love's Gonna Get You" by KRS-ONE.
My brother from Southside!!!! One love
Fresno state ... Herron and alston were dope. I was in middle school living in hawaii and I loved anthony carter playing for hawaii going against them dudes in college
I can't believe Vlad gets away with asking questions about crime and not any real time on these interviewees achievements
Yo Vlad! Interview the rest of the AND 1 crew! Great memories from watching these guys back in the day.
This has always been hard for me to understand about talented brothers. You wait til you are almost done with high school to start messing up eventhough you know your getting recruited by the whole world! I played ball in high school and I swear it was the reason I got good grades cause I didn't want it to be an excuse for why I'd get kicked off the team! I didn't even have a quarter of his talent, I just cant relate.
That's funny I'm from Maxton North Carolina I didn't even know that.
Skip need his own show, he got a lot of hood stories to tell.
He cool asf he speak real shit alot nba players 2021 are Squares
I still have all the And1 dvds. Shout to Skip the Legend
this was about everything except playing against AI 😂
lol.....facts
Thanks iam out 2 minutes in
Thanks you saved me valuable time.
Laurinburg prep was a good school. Gil Reynolds was a legendary coach. I played there in 97’ for one season. But it was definitely country living. Piggly wiggly and a gas station that sold pizza, i can remember vividly.

I will always disagree with Coach Steve Van Grundy for that… He was Cookin in them finals… Big Facts…
@@jemelwoseley9381 man that’s why he is a commentator now and not coaching
I agree, I was so passed. However when all boils down Nelson was the draft money man. Damn
Hey played with my boy Damon at ventura. I was in a similar situation at Chaffey wit Robin Kennedy from and 1. Bone Collector also went there later. I missed a chance to play against him. in the gym. I heard alot about him and wanted to get at him back in the day,.
Fresno City College basketball team has one of the best Juco programs in the nation and has won a lot of national championships it's literally one of the hardest teams to make
Vlad better talk about that Tark The Shark era.... he was on a helluva Fresno State team.
Skip changed basketball, made everybody increase their dribble skills also 4s and 5s started becoming ball handlers. Goat 🐐 talk

Skip and myself have to thank Gel Reynolds of Laurinburg Prep in NC, hell of a Coach, mentor and Pops
Earl Manigault played there for a short period.

Never give up on your DREAMZ..,
He's talking truth, I was on that I.S. 8 Team an Rafer was this skinny kid that was playing with kids twice his size! But any of us could of played d1 basketball but he streets was tough!!! South Side Queens!
Like listening to Rafer, good voice
Remember when he played for the Bucks!!💪
South side Jamaica Queens finest. Skip ⏭ salute 💯
He the most successful and 1 guy. A lot of them couldn't make it to the NBA just college for a short term. I still think Escalade would've been a beast if he dropped some weight.
I'm from hampton and played against his school and watched him from Jr high and up
He is talking facts… shit is super tough in the hood only a few make it out
It absolutely drives me crazy when Vlad says “OK” especially when it’s in an uncomfortable situation.
Rafer look like trey way SHOTTI LOL 🤣💯
Vlad is like “So is that when you met 2pac? Tell me more about 2pac.”
Vlad u gotta do Laurinburg Prep ballers
I remember I use to have the SLAM mag with him on the cover
I wish skip put on in the finals, he didn’t. I really wanted him to have a good series.
Cuz that idiot van gundy rather played a fresh off injury jameer nelson instead of skip smh. Skip was playing great in those playoffs.
That anit skip fault that was coach van gundy fault
@Muslim I AM that is the fucking faxts
@@bigger.1.bestrapperalive I still don't get that. He broke the chemistry with that decision.
@@1tonio567 that happened because I believe that year jameer made the all-star team and you know how coaches are with their star players. The bad thing about that is after that injury jameer was never the same and played nowhere near an all-star for the rest of his career.
Played against Bethel always had great talent shout out to the Va

Vlad better ask about the eddie house spinning headband incident 🤣
I went to University at UNC Pembroke he is absolutely not lying about Lauringburg lmaoo country as hell
Waiting o him to yell out “Treywayyyyy”
Bring in Mark Jackson for an interview to talk about his time and dismissal with Golden State.
I guess alot of us black kids that grew up in his environment didn't have safety nets in life due to one parent homes because alot who made it out and succeeded even while having a one parent home with alot of siblings, they had strong Male presence in there lives who helped push alot of these kids and stayed on them like a father figure which alot from the hood didn't have. But it took alot of us to either play sports and have a talent that was noticable.or if it wasn't sports they had positive friends with 2 parent homes and there friends father's became like fathers to alot of them which I believe instilled good life values towards them to the point that they made smart moves to become something in there lives. Which alot of us didn't have the luxury to witness in our lives. The streets raised alot of us which when It comes to being a major achiever in life.instead of just having street smarts to survive in the streets that kept alot of us in the streets.and we all know that the streets dont have no love.big ups to the ones who had positive role models in there lives that helped them overcome the odds and make something positive with their lives.
