@Emanon May I ask, what was the purpose of your comment, to share light on a topic, if so, why word it so condescendingly, just because you know or have done more research on a topic doesn't make someone's valid addition to a conversation invalid, and why shouldn't the better preserved theories receive the credit, Leif Eriksson discovered America decades before Christopher Columbus yet Columbus is the one we learn about at school, you wanna know why, because it made more of a global and societal impact. I know I may seem hypocritical and appearing condescending to you, but treating someone with their if own medicine is often the way to show them how to properly act + he said he was Greek so obviously he would know more about Greek history and science as opposed to other countries and cultures, anyways may God Bless you for the rest of you days. Believing a guy actually walked on water, and that another guy seperated a sea so his people can cross it, but at the same time not believing in gravity because it would be "magic", is mind-blowing to me.
there's a theory that the "parting of the sea" is actually a little simpler than an act of god. Theory goes a planetary alignment during whenever that event actually happened had extra pull on ocean tides, the sea didn't part, it just got shallow enough to wade across on sand bars. As the pharaohs army pursed the tide came back in and drowned anyone unfortunate enough to be wearing bronze armor or not being able to swim or whatever. Here's something to assist with your point of how many flat earthers misunderstand centrifugal force and RPM: Like you said, the Earth makes one full rotation a day. You know what moves much faster? The hour hand on a clock. Go up to the clock on your wall and stare at the hour hand. It's moving so slowly that you can't even perceive it moving at all, from a human perspective it might as well be completely static. That hour hand is rotating TWICE as fast as the Earth is. Literally DOUBLE the RPM. There is no such thing as centrifugal force at these ludicrously slow speeds.
The thing that most people forget (or refuse to acknowledge) is that science is not always intuitive. Does it make sense that a heavier ball would fall faster than a lighter ball? Does it make sense that time passes at the same rate on Earth's surface and the ISS? Does it make sense that we should be able to feel the Earth's rotation if it's going 1000mph? Yes to all of them. That's not how things actually work though. Reality is under no obligation to conform to your understanding.
@@Ohmanwhyyourfeelingshurt Yes, but that's only if the car is going the exact same speed without turning. The moment the speed or direction changes even a bit, people feel the acceleration. That's why when you're on a merry-go-round, you constantly feel it in motion even if it's running at a constant speed. The fact that it's going in a circle means you are always feeling an angular acceleration. Therefore someone who doesn't fully understand the scale and relative angular velocity of the Earth could intuit that they should feel the Earth's spin. As for juggling in a car, they said how they thought that was inconsistent. They said that juggling in a car would only work inside a car, not outside. These people also believe that if you go up in a helicopter on a rotating planet, the planet should rotate away underneath you. They don't understand that the atmosphere moves with the planet, again because things work differently when observed on Earth at a smaller scale. These people are driven entirely by intuition, how they believe things should work based on how seemingly similar things work right in front of them. That's why I said science *is not* always intuitive, so I'm not sure why you're asking why I said it was.

Snipers disprove flat earth conspiracy theories because, for shots over extremely long distances, they have to factor in the curvature of the planet Earth, as well as how much and exactly _when_ gravity will begin to effect their bullet while it travels to the target. Lord Jamar is a living embodiment of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
The gravity part is easy. It starts affecting the bullet immediately. Long distance shots usually won't have to deal with the curvature of the earth, but how long the bullet is in the air. That's when the Coriolis effect will come into play.
Something funny about the Basketball analogy, Neil Degrass Tyson mentioned that the longest distance on the Earth, that being the Mount Everest at 8849 meters (sorry I'm European, I don't know how to use the American Metrics) and the mariana trench, which has a depth of about 10994 meters (so maximum difference would be 20kilometers at most) is so 'insignificant' due to the size and density of the Earth that if one was to rub their finger over Earth, you wouldn't even notice anything because there's so few distance between points. Earth would feel like a flat ball
Dude. This is incredible. I've learned a lot about Science from Neil Degrasse Tyson and I wish I would have taken an interest in him sooner. I'm a college instructor and I've attended my fair share of pedagogy talks and conferences, and no one teaches about a subject with as much understanding, passion, and genuine excitement as Neil does. He so easily explains complex concepts, which only comes from an intimate understanding of the subject. I hate that he's always on Joe Rogan, but damn, that's a brilliant metaphor.
this is almost true. its more like the size of a pool ball i think. its because the distance between the highest and lowest points isnt very big compared to the size of the planet. it might not be totsly accurate but its a great way to explain just how huge the planet is
Yeah, it's the same concept as a cue ball. A cue ball feels flat and smooth, but it's got so many rough points on it in reality. Humans are so big that it feels smooth
My brother believes that dinosaurs are dragons. Me and him were having a conversation where Sue the T-Rex was brought up, and he told me that the T-Rex was actually a dragon. I asked him how, and he said, and I quote him directly, "We just haven't found the wings yet."

Well, misinformation travels as fast as information. In certain places on the internet, all you have to do is sound confident in your misinformation and BOOM! You're a scientist, no degree or certification required. Meanwhile, actual scientists are pointed at by anti-intellectuals and called liars, or paid by "them".

These people don't understand what "free thinker' actually means They've confused "open-minded" where you're willing to change your beliefs in accordance with evidence with "gullible" where you just believe whatever nonsense people try to shove in your brain if it aligns with your biases. These people are the absolute antithesis of free, independent critical thinkers. They're the most brainwashed of all.
at least with other conspiracies i can understand why in theory someone would want to hide the truth about such and such. But who exactly benefits from making us believe that the earth is round instead of flat?
The thing that saddens me greatly is that there is a wide spread belief that Science and the Bible are opposed to one another thanks to dialog like this. I’m a Christian who enjoys marveling at creation and learning the different technical aspects to what has been created. It makes me appreciate my God even more.
They are opposed to one another The Bible states that you must ONLY believe in the word of god, which is the bible You can't just pick and choose what you believe "I believe God created the universe but not the Big Bang which is proven BUT that there sky is the reaction of light and not created by God"
Somedays, it hits me that the internet as a whole has caused a huge amount of damage to intellectual thought and reason amongst our society. The internet is a vast compilation of knowledge... some people have zero common reasoning skills.
The internet did not produced zero reasoning skills it has ALWAYS existed. The internet as a whole have not caused a huge amount of damage. You think just like a flerf making up NONSENSE.
28:00 The pulsing he mentions, are completely out of focus stars and planets (fully zoomed in), because flerfs are unable to manual focus their p900's or P1000's on a celestial body. You would need at least 1 functioning neural link to accomplish such a difficult task, so...
My university hosted a flat Earth debate with the physics students, & 1 of the flattards demonstrated his basketball experiment, where he showed how water could not stick to a sphere. I got up & said... "This is why you are stupid."... pushing the basketball off the pedestal, & it fell to the floor. He smugly laughed saying that doesn't proves anything. I replied... "Yes it does. It proves that the basketball is being pulled down to Earth by Earth's gravity, just like the water you poured on top of it. That's why the water did not stick to the basketball. Gravity does not exist in space to pull the water off of Earth's surface. Gavity only exists where there is matter. Our Moon is trying to pull Earth's water off its surface, but its gravitaional force is much weaker than Earth's, so all the Moon can do is cause the tides."
Despite the fact that if God created the world, he also created the physics governing it, so it fits perfectly fine into his theology. I'm not sure why he thinks that god's existence discounts the scientific rules God himself would have to have been responsible for.
Not exactly, many scientists got into science because they wanted to proof god, and thus helped us understand the world around us better through their belief. Did they prove that god exists? No, but they did help further our knowledge of the world.
I got a dad who is a flat earther. He unironically got radicalized by tiktok to become a biblical literalist. He tried bombarding me, a PhD student whose entire job is research, with questions that I tried to answer but as I was answering them he kept throwing more questions and never giving me time to answer them. I eventually asked him "if you didn't want me to answer your questions why did you ask them?" He's never asked me another conspiracy question. I do remember even my mom got into conspiracies (not flat earth, but moon landing denial) and she asked me "how did they fit the lunar rover in the the shuttle" And I looked at her, dumbfounded and said "It folds. There's literally pictures of it being folded." And then she asked "who took photos on Neil Armstrong on the moon?" And I'm just like "Buzz Aldrin." Just because you can ask questions doesn't mean there aren't answers.
Only by surface area, though! I learned an interesting factoid today: Despite covering about 70% of the surface, the Earth is only about 0.02% water by mass.
Black intellectuals were derided as snobs and elitists when they warned decades ago that rappers should be approached with caution as accurate sources of information on serious topics.
Definitely thanks for this. I almost want to apologize for my entire generation. Jamar was once venerated as a hip-hop legend and deep thinker. Some still see him that way apparently. But this is bad. Crisis levels.
Flerfs think that you can’t see the sun because it is eventually blocked by the atmosphere. They forget that you can see stars at the horizon, which according to Flerf physics is embedded in the firmament thousands of miles away across the flat earth.

It's so awesome to me, the depth of willful ignorance that exists particularly in the Flat Earthers, not only because it accuses so many people of being Satanists and other truly evil actors, but also because of the total lack of self awareness of the Flat Earther who interacts everyday with the technology that simply wouldn't exist or function were it not the case that the STEM community is correct.
You're free to disprove anything published in any scientific paper at all. You're free to invent better technology and wouldn't it be amazing if it represented a truly ground breaking paradigm shift in the way that say, the transistor did.
You won't because you can't and what's worse, you're too foolish and lazy to even try.
Next time you need to see a doctor, just don't. It's the same science and they're all evil masons and it's all a pack of lies, isn't it?
Anyone else notice that when one of these guys tries to go "Hold up isn't that wrong, what?" Jamar just shouts untill they stop talking and he can make his own point?
Because you can’t be proven wrong if no one’s allowed to tell you what you got wrong 😊
That's what makes him a fool and a coward. He insists that he's right on everything. That makes him a fool. He's a coward in that he's afraid of being corrected.
I kept waiting for the guy on the left to be able to get an argument in, but he just kept getting talked over.
This is what happens when nobody ever says “no” to someone.
Greek here, one of my ancestors used two sticks to figure out that the world we are on is a sphere, and that was long before the year of our Lord.
There is no debate here, the Earth is a sphere and that's the end of it.
Anyone who claims it is flat is a fool.
Egyptians, Persians and Babylonians knew it millennia before. The Greek writing was unfortunately the only thing that survived, which is why they get most of the credit.
Or are you telling me that they built the pyramids 2-3000 years before Pythagoras and didn't know "his" mathematical principle.
Come on, man...
I know I may seem hypocritical and appearing condescending to you, but treating someone with their if own medicine is often the way to show them how to properly act + he said he was Greek so obviously he would know more about Greek history and science as opposed to other countries and cultures, anyways may God Bless you for the rest of you days. there's a theory that the "parting of the sea" is actually a little simpler than an act of god. Here's something to assist with your point of how many flat earthers misunderstand centrifugal force and RPM:
Like you said, the Earth makes one full rotation a day.

But you can be in a car going 100 mph and you don't feel it except for the initial takeoff, you can juggle in the car and it will follow you
When was science "intuitive"?
@@Ohmanwhyyourfeelingshurt Don't juggle and drive or it will follow you off rhe road!
I'm just here for the future comments to come
@@Ohmanwhyyourfeelingshurt Yes, but that's only if the car is going the exact same speed without turning.

My brother uses his etched reticle to calculate distance and account for drop and will straight up deny all of that stuff

Earth would feel like a flat ball

Gravity does not exist in space to pull the water off of Earth's surface. Gavity only exists where there is matter.
