If you like that Real SE, you’d probably like the Primitive 8.25 shape. I was skating that Primitive shape for like 5 months, before I went up to 8.5, specifically because it had a 14” wheelbase. 360 flips were on autopilot. Same woodshop as deluxe so it’s that good BBS wood.

I'm riding this full SE 8.06 31.5 14WB deck right now and I feel like I've finally found the board that works for me. Considering riding these forever. I was thinking it was because of my size (5'8) but seems to have worked for you too. Keep it up Ben. Thanks for the videos.

I’m 37 just getting back into skating, bought a 8.25 quasi on thunders and struggled though it does manual nice, went and bought new setup after 2 weeks a REAL 8.06 marked s1 on top some dudes signature model after watching your board reviews on various REAL boards. Made doing my tricks a whole lot easier. Glad I bought it to try something different before giving up again from struggling on a board that was not suited to me.

What size Thunders are you rolling with? I'm in the same wheelhouse as you. About to pick up a new deck but I have 148 hollow lights which are suited for 8.25. Hopefully I can get away with something in between! Thanks for taking your time to reply

The struggle is real, dont you miss the days you could go into the local skateshop buy whatever you thought looked coolest and ride the shit out of it with little to no discernible difference in performance.
The older you get the more important and drastic every small board setup change can feel and have, I setup a board 5ish years ago around the age 24 and made the mistake of buying bones spf 104a's got a solid year or two of riding but damn those hard wheels put a beating on my joints everytime i rode on anything that wasnt perfectly smooth which led to me tossing the board aside and hadnt touched it for 2-3 years...
decided to begin riding it again during covid times and quickly realized if i dont change my setup things arent gonna last vary long for me again, so in the process of setting up a new deck with softer wheels in hopes that finding a more comfortable setup will allow me to stick with skating rather then quiting after a few more months to a year...
Im going oppisite of you though, switching from an almost 8.0, i've now been riding a mellow girl 8.25 deck for a month and its feeling quite nice though ive already got my next deck ready to go which is an almost uber light 8.25 with steep concave... I got a feeling ill prefer and go back to mellow shapes after the uber but it seems hard to find steep decks these days... so i had to get it, plus ive always wanted to try an uber light board and with powell flight decks, santa cruz and other advanced tech. decks having grown in popularity in recent years i figured it couldnt hurt to try an almost uber light.
but the biggest shift for me has been going from bones 54mm stf 104a wheels to ricta cloud 54mm 92a wheels, so much smoother riding and easier on my joints and knees... theyve given me a load more of confidence and sped up my progression allowing me to skate the rough asphalt infront of my home for longer sessions... though once i get back to ledges and rails i plan to move up to 99a wheels (either the new bones stf 99a's or new ricta rapido 99a's) but until then the ricta clouds are a true blessing allowing me to skate more often and for longer sessions well helping me quickly build back all my old skate muscles with a little less wear and tare feeling on my aging body.
lastly for my fellow retro rippers as awkard and embarassing as they can feel at first getting a good skate bucket is a huge confidence booster imo.
I brought a triple 8 comfort sweat helmet and at 29 years old its one of the best skate investments ive made... i aint trying to go pro at my age and dont really care to much about impressing anyone at my local skatepark or street spots and after a couple bad falls I quickly realized i cant catch my falls and protect myself nearly as good as when i was a young and seasoned skater. ( im sure as i continue to progress in skating ill also progress in my fall/bailling ability)
Though i havent put it to its test yet just knowing i can take a nasty unexpected fall and not have to worry about a serious head injury has boosted my confidence and progression hugely! and if you skate with your own child/children or nieces/newphews then it sets a good example for them to wear protective equipment well skateboarding themselves.

14'' wheelbase is probably the best, feel like every trick gets easier. came from a polar with a 14.75" to a poetic deck with a 14" wheelbase (might even be a tiny bit smaller) especially treflips as you mention feels good. Great review!

Love that part of this vid was filmed at a worksite, romex runs everywhere :) Strongly considering getting a Real/Deluxe board for a 2nd setup bc your reviews are so consistently positive. Skating an 8.38 31.5" Almost/Dwindle board now and I really love everything about it but it is very very stiff. I want something different, but not tooo different..8.25 with steeper concave and more flex would be cool

thanks for your informative and insightful videos. I somehow "quit" skating without even noticing way back, but thanks to your videos I found inspiration to just go have fun and feel good again, so thanks alot for that. I also bought the full SE real deck and it was such a sweet "cute" deck, I rode it on indy 49 hollows and slim bones v3's, such a great combo, with my loose trucks, i felt like daewon song immediatly and instantly got back to my groove , my grip was perfect after 4 months although my nose/tail was destroyed. I just couldnt miss these casual flips and tricks.

Every time you post a new video I go looking at different products trying to figure why I can’t kickflip properly at 30 years old anymore. And when you said you grew skating smaller boards - it hit me that in my prime around 16-19 I would only ride 7.75 decks. And now bc of the whole bigger board crazy I’m on a 8.38 and it’s just so hard to get a good flat ground kickflip

Now let me add a Note about Real Skateboards and their great Customer Support:
I ordered my Davis Torgerson Perimeter Full SE at a Store in Germany and it came with a 4-Inch Crack in the Bottom Layer, along the Length Axis of the Deck, reaching from about 2 Inches of the Tail end to the Flat Area of the Board. As the Clearcoat Finish was inside the Crack, it was quite obvious that this was not a Result of Mishandling but a Fabrication Fault. So i contacted Real Skateboards via their Website and received their Reply within about one Hour. They asked me to send a Photo of Proof and a Copy of the Receipt via Email. After checking the Photos, they offered me to send a Replacement Deck without Arguing.
We all know that Factory Faults can happen and slip through Quality Control from Time to Time, but the Response of Deluxe/Real Skateboard Customer Care Office was just GREAT. Correct and Effortless.
I give an additional THUMBS UP for this painless Support Experience!

Real by a fairly large margin. They need to stiffen flight decks up a touch in my opinion which would increase the weight a bit but I think they would sell better. Most people just can't get past their first reaction of how a flight deck feels. That was my biggest reason I didn't want to try them.

Got mine today,it was on retail, and hung it on the wall for future use. It's thinner than my Real Justin Brock (same size and wheelbase) by a fraction (0.3mm), thus lighter by a few dozens of grams, and definitely flatter tail and nose by 1-2 degrees, which you can feel when you directly compare them.

Is there a huge difference between 8.0 to 8.06? Really want to skate an Anti Hero deck.

    • @Pterodactylphenylalanine
      @Pterodactylphenylalanine 2 года назад

The difference is exactly .06 inches. Huge or small that’s what it is. But honestly you probably couldn’t tell the difference by looking it’ll be a minute change.

I seem to be getting ghost pop with my Anti-Hero deck (which I think has a similar shape). Any idea what I can switch up to help prevent that?

Really nice review, i skated 7.5/6/7 alot, cause i'm old (XD) and the trend for wide boards for street i don't understand well, specially if you don't jump gaps. I thought that wide boards were for park, someone can tell me, why enjoys wide decks for flat tricks and grind tricks?
    Thanks.

Theres more skateparks worldwide then ever before... hence, more and more kids are growing up skating park/transition than they are street skating, those that do still actually street skate are no strangers to park riding either and since most parents aint buying kids multiple $200-300 skate setups... having a single board setup that fits multiple skate subsets/scenarios matters.
You've got to keep in mind that kids dont have the luxury of owning both a park board and street board so having a single board setup that does a bit of everything is kinda a must for modern skaters... hence bigger wheels and wider boards becoming more common over the years eventhough such setups might not excell at any given skate task, they can perform adequate for most any skate scenario you throw at them... a jack of all trades type of setup if you will... and thats what I believe must modern skaters are looking for these days, something then can huck down sets, finesse on flat ground and yet still manage to rip around in transition parks.
But like with everything in life trends come and go and everything comes back around eventually... skaters started on wide boards went to skinny for a decade or two and now we been back to wide boards for awhile now and in another 3-5 years the industry trend might switch back to slimmer/smaller boards once again... infact prof. Peter Schmitt during his nineclub interview claims to already be seeing a trend among pro skaters moving back towards slimmer and smaller boards, but the industry lacks behind popular pro trends by years (hence why twin tail and twin nose boards arent more readily avaliable to us consumers despite a clear growing trend among pros to ride symmetrical shapes and a clear desire from consumers to try such board types for themselves.... yet twin tail and twin nose boards are still near impossible to find.) so it'll be another 3-5 years before us consumers begin to notice the shift back to slimmer and smaller boards from a retail standpoint... but many many pros have already begun the process of downsizing there boardsize like guys that were known for wide boards just a few years ago are all going back down to 8.0s and 8.125s from 8.5's+ given a few more years we could legitimately see 7.5-7.8s rise in popularity again... 8-8.25 seems to be the sweet spot in which the most elite of elite skaters are riding right now... still a few elite riders killing it on 8.375+ but i think the majority have begun the shift back down the scale.
