      Agreed. He's one of my all-time favs and you're absolutely right, we lost at least 2 solid seasons of his Dominance.
      He's certainly not the only Elite guy to lose crucial Prime years to injury..... I think of Bromell and Degrasse specifically, both losing prime YEARS to injury and both making Full comebacks too.
      ( even though many counted both out after being gone for a couple seasons. They definitely had the last laugh there..)
      I think for Wayde, this is HIS season for a full return to his best self comeback. He's not getting any younger and the time is NOW if he wants to make the Podium again. I'd never count out that guy.... when he's at his best, he's nearly untouchable.

I am a huge fan of WVN and hope to see him continue to climb his way back to the top. But until he posts a sub 44, he is not back to his old self. That being said, he could be on a world podium and even win with a low 44. The 400M doesn't have anyone consistently in the sub 44 range anymore. Norman and Gardiner can do it when in shape, but both are not in top form anymore.

    Stepping back from favorites, all athletes at this level are to be respected and encouraged for their efforts, as they all have their own story.
    But... you have to feel for Van Niekerk, given the frivolous way in which he was catastrophically injured at the worst possible time, and the tenacity with which he has not given up, when you would have thought most would, and made these steady improvements. He must think about the circumstances of that injury over and over.... Yet, now, a major medal win must feel sooo within his grasp!

    The title of this video is complete Clickbait which has been the theme lately. What he “has done” was in 2022. Unless you count his Instagram post about momentum.

    The words "phenomenal, fantastic, and astounding " are applicable to Usain Bolt, Professor Edwin Moses, and Wayde Van Niekerk because of the facts that what they 've achieved and accomplished repeatedly in their respective events are track records that are truly "one of a kind."

    Really rooting for Wade, and I would love him to be successful again in major comps. However, at the age of 31, I beleive his WR 400 time is out of reach even for him. When he ran it, he was at the optimum age and was super fit. I believe he will run between 43 and 44 again, but I think that Rio performance will turn out to have been his finest hour. Will Gardiner or Norman ( poss Femke Bol :)) break it? I think it's just about possible for Norman, but he would have to do it in the right race with the performance of a lifetime.

    Van Niekierk was a phenomenal athlete in his prime. I hope this great athlete can get back to his brilliant best, but ,sadly, that is very highly unlikely.

    The way he lopes down the home stretch makes me think of Usain Bolt. In my mind Usain Bolt is the Wayde van Niekerk of 100m. But both runners don't look like they are forcing their bodies into difficult shapes, just calmly and collectively making huge distances between them and their second place rivals.

      There was that one dude from Jamaica. Something like Golt or Folt. I seem to remember him doing well at the Olympics and World Championships. He always seemed to bring it when it mattered. What was his name?

    • @jeffjeff8562
      @jeffjeff8562 Год назад +1

      @@jamesclapp6832 I didn't place him in my top three cause Jesse was Jesse, Michael Johnson was hands down the best 400m sprinter ever and Wayde the best all round sprinter ever. Bolt was the fastest ever, but he quit early in his career. Not only did he quit, but he lost "it". His last races were horrendous.

    • @jamesclapp6832
      @jamesclapp6832 Год назад

      @@jeffjeff8562 Bolt's final season was a difficult one because of that persistent hamstring injury. Nevertheless he managed to finish with a bronze medal, missing his fourth 100 meter world title by .03 while clearly laboring. Unfortunately the muscle quit him 20 steps into his anchor leg. He might not have competed at all had he any intention of competing into his 30s. He did because he felt obliged, as a consummate showman, to perform one last time for fans that were loyal to him throughout his long career. Remember he competed in the 200 at Athens in 2004 at age 18. 2017 may not have been the storybook ending we might have hoped for, but it was hardly horrendous.

    I'm a huge huge WVN fan but even though he's improved his fitness and performance... He will never be "back" for us fans... I doubt he can go Sub44 again and that was what enabled him such dominance overall ... Not a win but 0,05 sec
