You've easily got enough room for a shallow boat shower tray in the area between the toilet and the wardrobe. Sink it in the floor and make a plywood cover for when it's not in use. It's close enough to the water heater to make plumbing in a flexible shower hose an easy task. All you need for the waste is to connect an electric in-line pump via hose to a skin fitting. If you're allowed to run sink water into the marina, you should be allowed to run shower water too. Otherwise, you'd also need to fit a T feed tap to direct the grey water to a small tank that can be emptied elsewhere. A cheap plastic storage box would probably do the job. There are plenty of boat shower trays available online. They are sized from around 600mm square and 150mm deep. If that is too deep, it's possible to custom build your own tray using exterior grade plywood with epoxy sealed joints. Line it with tiles and either fit a waste outlet in the bottom or even on one of the sides.
We live in Cambridgeshire ourselves, have had boats for nearly thirty years and currently have a 33ft motor cruiser on the Gt Ouse. I was a BSS Examiner in Cambridgeshire for eight years and mostly visited moorings on the Rivers Gt Ouse and Cam but I've been to Foxes a few times, including to do the BSS safety checks on a NB my friend's father was fitting out there. Youll probably be like most of us once we get the bug. Springers are very popular, you got yours for an incredible price and are very lucky but if you stick with it, you'll eventually want something bigger with a bathroom and central heating Good luck!

Thanks so much for the tips Derek! You obviously know what you're talking about!
Yep that's the plan, just using this one as a base at the minute but eventually if/when we settle down a little more we'll definitely upgrade to a bigger one!

Loved this very informative Q & A video. I loved the honesty and openness of it, you really are so comfortable and at ease with each other. Lovely hearing the comment that you've been glued to each other from the start. I bet there hasn't been many days that you've been apart. So much valuable info about the cost of a boat and how much it takes to run. Just need to get those repairs done when you can. I'm compiling some questions that I'll throw your way in the next few days. I'll try to keep them shorter than my usual comments but once again I can't promise that. Best Wishes to both of you.

If you've ever seen the Caledonian sleeper, the shower situation in the en suites is about the same as your boat. Basically the toilet seat folds down onto a shelf in which you can then use as a shower.

I am a perpetual traveler myself and love the way you found a way to live on this romantic little narrowboat. Thank you so much for your videos. They are really wonderful!
I have a few questions about the expenses that I hope you will have time to answer.
How much does the blacking every 2 years cost? How much do you pay for electricity?
How much money do you use for wood for the wood burner?
Can you moore just during the winter months or do you have to pay for a full year at the time?
If you are sailing part of the year how much does it cost to moore on the go?
    One last thing.
Can a narrowboat be rented for a few months to see if you fit into the lifestyle? Where could one find options for renting online?
Thank you for your help in advance. I wish you all the best! :-)

Hi Guys, that was riveting viewing. I can understand how you relate so well. I think by some of the questions there are people who don't have this sort of close, unified relationship. I think you are like my wife and myself- 'if you ask for one of us, you get both of us'. We share everything and do everything together. Have you done a travel trophy blog yet? We had to make a rule that we didn't buy any souvenirs as we did one long haul every year for 20 years, from Borneo in the east to the amazon rain forest in the west, and countries in between, plus sorties into European countries several times a year. You should see our collection of 100+ elephants. I really must catch up with your travels.

from Australia, everything is relative, after my wife passed away in 2011 I spent 4 years travelling around the east of this big country in a 13 foot camper trailer for a time with a small dog so a 35 foot boat seems massive to me. i believe that most people tend to have too much unnecessary Stuff and that downsizing can be very liberating, and as for showering etc a very short shower gets the job done, love your blog and will subscribe. you are a very inspiring couple and look forward to more from you. best of luck to you both. I also found that at most camp grounds etc most of the neighbours were in the same boat as it were security has never been a problem and in all the years I have been camping I have never had an issue. the only thing I would require extra would be book shelves as I am an avid reader. can do without a tv. but must have my books.

Hope you're enjoying the lovely weather. You've got a fan you say you put on to cool the boat but does the boat cool down much at night or is it like a kiln that takes a long time to cool down. I've got a very very tiny Park Home, they don't make them smaller than mine, and that stays very hot at night in the summer. Do you ever spray the outside of the boat with the hosepipe to try and cool it down. Take care both of you

    • @CharliePauly
      @CharliePauly  4 года назад

It's actually not too bad in the evenings, once the sun goes down with the windows open it's cool enough. Which is surprising because it gets ridiculously hot in the day time.

Yes definitely, everything is easily manageable. Just maybe the lack of knowledge in the beginning. The toughest parts are emptying the toilet, changing the gas bottles and lighting the fire.
