So great to see your excitement for Van life. A few things will be needed or changed for future trips but there was always going to be something and they won't be major things. I think Lauren spotted future accommodation in that little caravan which was next to you when you were parking. There you were teasing us Charlie and all along you were going to let Lauren drive the van, good lad it gives you options especially if one of you is too tired to drive. All the best Debbie & David 👫 xx
Exactly! That was the main purpose of this little test run, to find out what works/what doesn't and what we still need to buy. But so far so good haha! And yes that little caravan was very cute and Lauren is a great driver so knew she's be sound! x
Brilliant video folks. Your enthusiasm for this first trip is amazing and you can literally feel it. Well done both, the van looks great and you’re nearly fully set up. Stay safe, keep warm and big hugs from Mal and Dave in Stoke
What a fun video. The bed looked so comfy and cozy. I would need a small potty for in the middle of the night. We had one in our camper van; wonderful with our 3 little girls.
Collapsible kettle, in the colder weather get a window vac you might have one on the boat, but great for clearing condensation. An extension cable you can plug more than one appliance in. You two are so positive, really enjoying this.

On the original I bought a campervan vlog I asked if your camper will be called Warrior as your boat is Wanderer. You answered by saying that's such a good idea, hadn't thought about the name yet makes complete sense. I am now taking complete credit for the naming of Warrior the campervan 😁 Haha, you're now going to scupper my smugness by saying you'd thought of that name all along. Great vlog of settling into Van life guys, Warrior is going to be great success. Glad you let Lauren have a drive, it makes complete sense that you did that. Great test to see what things are missing in the van. You both couldn't stop smiling and we can't either. Take care both of you, Graham ❤
Haha no comment...we'll let you have this one Graham for all your support throughout the build! Yes, great little test run, couldn't have gone better and like you say found out the little bits we need/need tweaking. Excited for some more trips in Warrior!
Very nice to see you're enjoying your selfmade campervan! Hopefully many trips to come for the both of you coming years. Kind regards again from Belgium!!
Love the toaster your dad got for you two. I don't if you know this or not, but that toaster design is quite old; a real to goodness antique piece. I believe the first ones came about in the 19th Century. I used one myself similar to your when I was in the Boy Scouts in the very early 1960's.
A low wattage fan heater warms the space up quicker then use the radiator for overnight. Also a folding kettle, available for the gas hob or as an electric ,when on hook-up, save time.
Put an ordinary cheap candle in the neck of a nice used wine bottle. Little by little the wax will run down the shoulders of the bottle which looks fab. When you're left with the really short candle bit, push it into the bottle and replace with new candle. Replace the bottle when it's full of little candle stubs, simples! - put Kettle, Electric Blanket and x2 Heated Throws on your Christmas list x.
What a great idea! This sounds like something up Lauren's street for sure! Yep got all of the mentioned on the list - the priority being the kettle! haha.
Hi Lauren Charlie ,so nice to see you on your first camp site you look as if you are having fun love the cover on the bed ,yes you are right it’s so cosy you feel just how we felt when we went away in how higher motothome was so excited all week but sad when we got home ,so pleased you both had a good night and not to cold ,take care keep safe, John 🌹🥂💐🥃🌈🌈🌈
Ah thanks a lot John! You know the feeling haha so cosy and exciting isn't it! Yes, glad the test run went well. Think we're set up for bigger and better adventures now!
Great first day guys, Add a kettle for the stove, save any chance of scalding while making hot drinks. Safety first every time. We've got to look after you crazy kids.. Enjoy your tour.
What we do when using electric hookup is to have an extra blue socket on a small piece of string and hang in on the indicator stork to remind you not to drive of with electric hookup connected
I subscribed to your channel a few months ago. I love your Vlogs. We have just bought our very first Motorhome after 12 months of looking at van conversions, campervans and other rubbish that was out there on the market !!!! We are loving 'Pippin', a 16yr old Fiat Sundance on the Ducato chassis, bought from an elderly couple with only 25,000 miles on the clock. She's like new. We're now looking for 'lockdown' free areas to go to. Keep up the good work guys. Best Wishes, Dave and Sophie xx
Ahh love to hear it guys! I can feel the excitement through your comment! Yes, sounds like us. Hopefully we can get a few more trips in before the weather turns too cold or the lockdown areas become too many!
I'm surprised at the lengths you have gone to keep warm, I would have thought two in such a small space (the van) you'd be toasty warm without the need of water bottles or the electric heater, especially after the gas stove was on a while. But all looks good but for a few things,,, the kettle, the tea... Can't go camping without those,,, guys!!! And Poolly Bridge is my favourite place on Earth.. Lucky guy'sss...
Haha you'd be surprised how cold it can get in the lake district at night, but yes everything worked and we survived which is the main thing! Yep, still need to get that kettle and absolutely loved Pooley Bridge!
Hi there, we’re in the throws of converting our van too so hopefully will be on the road soon ... 👏🏻👏🏻 A small suggestion, in your links section, maybe include the items you use like your brilliant collapsible washing up basket etc. Who knows it may lead to sponsorships that help you keep on the road. Keep Safe, Sane & Healthy ❤️
How are you managing without a Chinese diesel heater? Ive camped several times in my transit in Scotland during the winter, and its kept me warm at minus 10. Life saver.
Having picked up my first camper a year and a half ago, I can say that my best purchase for that was a long, long waterbottle. Didn't cost the earth, and bought it from dunelm. (think there's a branded version called warmies - but they come a lot cheaper to save pennies) When I had no hook up, it kept me warm all night... Deffo need a kettle, and a carbon monoxide detector. I have heard lots of warnings about small heaters in the confined space of a camper, so be careful...
Niceee! Will have to look out for one of those or have a look on eBay. Yes, kettle is top of the list and we have a carbon monoxide detector but need to hang it up somewhere.
I was going to say that you don't need to do anything complicated to hold up the top cupboard door, since it has the handle and is so close to the ceiling that a hook would do the trick. Then I heard Lauren ask for the hook. I will say that you want to get a hook that is open at both ends because it will bang and rattle on the road whichever end you mount it to AND you only need that hook to grab your head one time while hanging from the ceiling to ruin the mood as well as your fondness for the van. Counter sink the eyebolt if it is possible or find one with a low profile if you can. Otherwise find a pair of flat strong magnets and try to make that work. What about adhering one magnet to the ceiling and grab a magnet hook that can live in the inside cupboard when not in use? Let it grab the screws to the cabinet handle that would be inside the cabinet door. You and your dad built a brilliant van that looks as good as the expensive builds without making a big fuss. Can I bring a shell out for you two to build mine? I will bring everything you need! Fantastic first night. What did Lauren think? She didn't say much.
We've had some serious thinking about that damn hanging door and are now looking to go with a gas strut if we can figure them out! Haha thank you! Dad deserves most of the credit but I'll have to see if he fancies taking on any work...maybe we can start a business out of this! Lauren loved it! She's very much into the camping/cosy nights so was in her element haha!
Hi guys you need to get a sleeping bag put under you really works great , full time van lady here since 96, come to AZ go camp the Grand Canyon. A new sub in Az. So cool
Wow thanks so much it's so crazy to hear people watching our vlogs all over the world and Grand Canyon is high on the bucket list! Also thanks for the tip, we've got sleeping bags but hadn't thought of that!
Hi guys, really enjoyed you videos that are full of enthusiasm, and love your self build van! Another good app along with Campercontact is Park4night. If you use these apps after lockdown when the pubs are back open it’s nice to go in and have a drink or even a meal To say thank you for letting you park in there car park.
Thanks very much, glad you're enjoying the videos! Yes, a few people have mentioned that app now and totally agree, we understand the win/win concept of the pub car parks!
Lauren you're a nut case of the first order but................the most adorable nutcase I know. The Van looks fantastic and you seemed to have set it up brilliantly.Twin hot water bottles, young people today are so soft, I remember my first night camping i n the Lake district with the Scouts circa1954. ,Sleeping bag made out of blankets pinned together with blanket pins a rubber ground sheet and a 2 man ex Army pup tent at Ashness Bridge.Good luck with your trip Cheers from Canada
Have you used the cute little door between the cab and the back of the van yet. I agree with others a good electric blanket would be ideal as you can alter the temperature. Have I missed the breakdown of the van conversion costs or will that come in time. So loving your vlogs. Tara xx
Thanks so much Tara. We've only used it a couple of times for extra storage/sandwich making on the road haha. Van cost breakdown is still on the list of things to do! x
Diesel fired nightheater would be a must there are good clone versions full kits for less than a hundred notes on eBay well worth the investment if you have a dedicated leisure battery to run it from 😀
Awesome guys!!love your real vanlife experience ❤️ make the romantic dinner candle citronella & you'll have mozzie and fly repellent as well 🤗 ps love the washing up basket👌 going to get one!
Check out the heater install in camper van on "Kara and Nate"'s channel... mounted inside front passenger seat mounting box frame, tied into second battery + charge inverter / controller
Thanks so much Allan! Had a great time, as you'll hopefully see in the next vlog (4 days in the Lake District)! We usually just use our phones to play music but a radio is not a bad idea!
We're beginning to wonder how many of the suggestions on here actually made it onto the road trip playlist. Come on we want to see a proper list of what you picked not just the few you mentioned. We were all brave enough to show you our musical tastes. We showed you ours now you show us yours 🙊🙈 Don't worry we won't laugh at any cheesy choices we all have our cheesy choices. Don't worry if you don't give into our demands, we still love you. Debbie & David 👫 xx
Haha thanks guys but I'm not sure people will want to sit and look through a list of 100 songs on youtube. We'll stick with the short sharp vlogs and include what we can haha. x
Don't for get the tin opener and a kettle knives and forks and spoons and walking boots cups tea and coffee and a water bottle for kettle in case you run out
This was fabulous, well done guys. I would highly recommend a Ridgemonkey for cooking - you can do so much with it. And if you buy the Go Outdoors small version, it makes the best ever toast !! A gallizon times better than what you used (sorry Dad!)
Loving the van guys. Just a question have you got any ventilation in the back? Perhaps may I suggest a mushroom type vent where you took out the chimney and perhaps a louvre type vent low down in a side panel so you get some air circulation in the back. It was just a concern of mine if you should decide to make a brew with the doors closed in an evening or perhaps if its raining there may be a potential Carbon Monoxide risk from the stove. Apologies if this has already been addressed and I have missed it. But the van is brilliant you have all done a superb job, and your Dad is a star. Stay safe. :-)
Good spot guys and always welcome to leave this kind of comments! We've only ever cooked with the door open however we've got the roof vent that we can open if we do have to cook with the door closed. Glad you like the van!
Do you think it would be difficult wild camping in this weather. We’re looking at getting our van in about 2 years and hopefully travelling around the uk.
Looks like Lauren's Jessie doll didn't make the trip then. Tubz must be her favourite. Is he a rabbit and has Lauren had him since she was young because he looks a bit battered (sorry well loved) He is absolutely adorable though just like you two. Debbie & David 👫 xx

The shrieking bird call that was playing over the speaker was that of the Common Buzzard. Hardly seen twenty five years ago they now are many in number. When you are filling up the Hot Water Bottles from a kettle wrap a tea towel or towel over your hand it cuts down on the burn a bit if you do spill any water on your hand. Take care, Graham

Need a fan heater
Been looking at diesel heaters for winter
Hi guys you need to get a sleeping bag put under you really works great , full time van lady here since 96, come to AZ go camp the Grand Canyon. A new sub in Az. So cool
Wow thanks so much it's so crazy to hear people watching our vlogs all over the world and Grand Canyon is high on the bucket list! Also thanks for the tip, we've got sleeping bags but hadn't thought of that!
Hi guys, really enjoyed you videos that are full of enthusiasm, and love your self build van!
Another good app along with Campercontact is Park4night.
If you use these apps after lockdown when the pubs are back open it’s nice to go in and have a drink or even a meal
To say thank you for letting you park in there car park.
Haha glad we're not doing it how you did it Ralph that's for sure! Cheers to the nutcases haha.
I love your spice rack shelf. Did you build it or buy it?
Ah thanks so much! It actually came with the van we just painted it white!
Great videos lads. I’m just wondering where did ye get the front window covers. Thanks
Thanks Trevor! Charlie's Dad actually gifted us these!
Check out the UCO Candle or candleier.for candles.
Nice, will take a look now! Thanks
Van cost breakdown is still on the list of things to do! x
Diesel fired nightheater would be a must there are good clone versions full kits for less than a hundred notes on eBay well worth the investment if you have a dedicated leisure battery to run it from 😀
Been looking into these and definitely something that keeps popping up in the comments so could be worth the investment!
You made my day love love ❤❤❤
Aw thank you!
Quality playlist tbf 👌🏻
Haha thanks Adie!
Awesome guys!!love your real vanlife experience ❤️ make the romantic dinner candle citronella & you'll have mozzie and fly repellent as well 🤗 ps love the washing up basket👌 going to get one!
Ah thanks so much Juliet! Ah what a genius idea, hadn't thought about the citronella candle! Thanks so much, we found it in Go Outdoors!
Happy travels from Australia and you just happened to mention it also.
Ah thanks so much! Yes, love Australia and hope to do some serious van trips over there once Covid clears!
@@CharliePauly come visit when your here
Check out the heater install in camper van on "Kara and Nate"'s channel... mounted inside front passenger seat mounting box frame, tied into second battery + charge inverter / controller
Sounds ideal! Will give it a watch!
Brilliant, Lovely Couple, Best Wishes And Subscribed.
Ah thanks a lot Mark, appreciate the support!
Great guys, so much loveable energy you give out! Hope the rest of your trip goes well. Merry times! Do you guys have a radio to listen too!
Thanks so much Allan! Had a great time, as you'll hopefully see in the next vlog (4 days in the Lake District)! We usually just use our phones to play music but a radio is not a bad idea!
nice and cozy Van :D
Yesss. We love it!
Welcome to Cumbria!
Thank you! We have our full Lake District vlog coming up on Sunday! Absolutely loved it!
Nice one looks proper cosy in there have you got a smoke alarm fire extinguisher in there 🙂✌️
Cheers Lee! Yes got a smoke alarm (need to stick it up somewhere) and got a fire blanket.
We'll stick with the short sharp vlogs and include what we can haha. x
Don't for get the tin opener and a kettle knives and forks and spoons and walking boots cups tea and coffee and a water bottle for kettle in case you run out
Yep got most of those but kettle is top of the list! Cheers Chris
GREAT VLOG AS USUAL
Thanks a lot!
Wouldn't the window heat reflectors be better shiny side in - in the winter?
Do you know what, we don't actually know. Will have to google that one haha.
I feel like you guys need a mini fridge somewhere 🤔
Haha there's been talks of it!
This was fabulous, well done guys. I would highly recommend a Ridgemonkey for cooking - you can do so much with it. And if you buy the Go Outdoors small version, it makes the best ever toast !! A gallizon times better than what you used (sorry Dad!)
Haha niceee! Just googled a Ridgemonkey and looks pretty good, we'll have to check it out!
@@CharliePauly oh please do, you won’t regret it. You can cook so much in them. I have one with compartments and it make the best cooked breakfasts!
something for the list...do you have a smoke/gas/carbon monoxide alarm?
Yes! We have one but just need to fix it somewhere!
Don’t delay ! ASAP !!
Why did you paint the black around the back door?? It looks neat...
Not sure what you mean. We didn't paint any black?
ok on the list is a funnel better than a mug lol and and Australian Blanket lol
Haha both good shouts! Thanks Lyn!
Brilliant👌did you have heating on all night ?
Cheers Peter! Yep, kept the little radiator going throughout the night.
Do you think it would be difficult wild camping in this weather. We’re looking at getting our van in about 2 years and hopefully travelling around the uk.
Put the hot water bottle in earlier. Makes it really cosy 😄 NNGreatfunthough 😃😃🍰🍰💐
Haha we've learnt from this trip! Next time we'll bring our water bottle A game!
Looks like Lauren's Jessie doll didn't make the trip then. Tubz must be her favourite. Is he a rabbit and has Lauren had him since she was young because he looks a bit battered (sorry well loved) He is absolutely adorable though just like you two. Debbie & David 👫 xx
Haha yes nobody will ever take the place of Tubby. She's had him since a child and he goes everywhere with her! x
Do them small radiators give off much heat
Surprisingly yes! We use two of them on the boat in the lead up to winter. And just one in the van worked perfectly!
Love you guys so much.
Thanks so much Calvin!
Enjoying the Vlog. Jason from Stoke on Trent 🤓
Awesome! Thanks a lot Jason!
gas strut for the cupboard xxx
Yes definitely looking to go with this option for the cupboard door!
Cool campers , pauline
Thanks Pauline!
Great video stay safe 😊
Thanks Julie, you too!
The Airplane in the video was a US Marine V 22 Osprey ❤️ one love ❤️
Nice one looking good
Thank you!
Did my weird playlist suggestion of “you’re so cool” make in on the final cut!? 😊
Haha I don't believe it made the cut. Sorry Jay!
That’s ok! There were still some very good tunes on there I noticed. Being one short won’t matter 😜
If you are using 240 volt hook up then how about an electric blanket with an on/off timer function?
Great idea! Thanks Lee! We were just talking about getting one of those for the boat so could transfer it to the van for sure!
Funny!, brought back memories of being a teen & my mum used to stomp her feet to..
If it hadn't been for Cotton-Eyed Joe
I'd been married long time ago
Where did you come from? Where did you go?
Where did you come from, Cotton-Eyed Joe?
Haha such a classic, definitely gets you moving!
WOT NO MARMITE!!!! lol ;0)
Haha I know right! Managed to film a whole vlog without the mention of Marmite!
New subscriber- First trip out how exciting. I'm currently building my first ever van solo build. Would love your input, come have a look. 💕 So glad the first night went well, we'll be doing ours so I'm so excited to keep in touch, as we haven't done the first trip yet. 😁👍
Ah thanks a lot Bex! Best of luck with the van build and exciting times ahead that's for sure! Thanks again for the support! x
@@CharliePauly Aww thank you, you guys. I am super excited and bf and I have planned to go to France for the first Europe trip. Yeah love the video, really helpful for my first night questions. 👍 Cheers for the reply and have a chilled night 😁
Some travel photos on the wall.
Definitely need to get around to that!
@@CharliePauly 100% By the way what type of candles are you looking at. I was thinking of starting company selling some home made scented ones if you were to be interested?
Perfect 👌💛
Thank you!
Nice vlog...
Thanks Mark!
Will you be getting a PO Box
We have a postal address at our boat yard.
@@CharliePauly Perfect are we allowed to send gifts?
Chinese Diesel Heater needed!
Definitely going to look into those!
Need an electric kettle....stay safe...xx
We've found a fold down gas kettle that might work!
Well done guys. The camping life is wonderful. xx Where is this campsite ? x
Thanks a lot! We certainly enjoyed it! This was Hillcroft Park, just outside Pooley Bridge in the Lake District!
Did you hear about Noel Gallagher of Oasis passed away recently?
I'm confused! Just googled it and he's definitely still alive!
@@CharliePauly maybe I got the wrong band member. Or maybe it is one of those phantom deaths that happen with celebrities. 🤷🏼♀️
