one of the greatest performances by a male vocalist in popular music history...

Mickey Thomas on lead with Grace Slick made a great sounding combination. Mickey's voice is similar to Steve Perry from Journey. Clear smooth and can hit the high notes easily. Add some great Classic Rock and you get a song like this.

Mickey Thomas was also the lead singer for Elvin Bishop (the blues guitarist) with the great song "Fooled Around and Fell in Love."

They used to just set up a stage and rock out in Golden Gate Park. When I was about 16 I was in the Park with friends and happened to walk right up on them setting up. Amazing day! The 70s were amazing in Northern California.

Jane is playing all kinds of games, but then again I feel like he is as well. Oh my God this thing just slayed when it came out. That banging piano part and everything about it and then Mickey Thomas just kicks it out of the ballpark.
Man just from a year or two earlier check out another huge hit that had all of us in junior high listening to this all the time: Run Away.

This is the perfect pop rock single. Everything about it is how to craft a hit 101. And Mickey Thomas needs to be more recognized for his vocals. It's a shame he and Brad Delp (Boston) aren't household names like Robert Plant or Steve Perry.

There is a fantastic cover of this song that was done during the pandemic lockdown. It features Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre , Winery Dogs) on drums , Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake , Trans Siberian Orchestra) on guitar , and a young relatively unknown Croatian singer named Dino Jelusick. He has the best Rock/Hard Rock voice i've heard in the last 15yrs. He also plays keyboard & bass on the cover. Check out that version , theres a video on YT.

Daaaamn, JMBOY....perfect reaction. Love, LOVE those "knowing" looks you give throughout the song and so nice that you can listen without constant stopping (or at all, which is so great) and still give such a great dissection of the song. Well done, sir.

Another case where the most popular song isn't the best song (for me) on the LP. Girl with the Hungry Eyes and the title song, Freedom at Point Zero are worth a listen from this LP. Both Marty Balin and Grace Slick (bandmembers with Paul in Jefferson Airplane) had left the band which gave Paul Kantner the "freedom at point zero" to regroup the band by bringing in Mickey Thomas (vocals) and Aynsley Dunbar (drums). Grace would return to the band on the next LP. The song Caroline from the Dragonfly LP is another JS song to listen to. The vocal magic of Marty/Grace/Paul is stunning.
