I'm currently re-playing Dead Kings too. Course, Arno is a machine in my run, all skilled & geared up. There are so many enemies, and they easily swarm you, down in the caverns for example. If I may make a suggestion - if you're going to show the cutscenes in future episodes, please turn the volume up a bit on the game. I can hear you just fine (and I love your commentary!) but the dialogue in cutscenes is hard to hear. Anyway, thanks for sharing your video, always a pleasure to watch.

I have a newfound appreciation of Unity ever since Assassins Creed started turning into an RPG which has lead me to binge-watching your Unity videos. I love how much thought and skill you put into them. I always just assumed Unity wouldn’t have any sort of community so im glad to find that im wrong. Do you have any other channels with high skill Unity videos you could recommend me?
I relate to that very much. I liked Origins a great deal and I thought it had some awesome potential, but I lived to see all that potential squandered by Odyssey and the direction it took, instead of amplifying the positives of ACO's system and use them to create a stronger Assassin's Creed experience. Going back to Unity after playing those two games, I found myself loving it more and more for what it attempted to be, which was something Origins and to a greater extent Odyssey didn't even make an effort on.
Unity, believe it or not, probably has a larger 'sub-community' than most other Assassin's Creed games, because a non-insignificant number of people find it more Unique and worth exploring than most of the other games in the franchise, despite its issues and bugs and jank. It's got AC's essence and spirit in a way we can feel very tangibly.

Leo K [Rogue] “It’s got AC’s essence and spirit in a way we can feel very tangibly” - Can i quote you on that one? Thats such a good way to put. It was by no means a perfect game but i truly feel like the direction Unity was going was on the path to the perfect AC game. This is why i wish so much that Unity would have mods. That way the community could have turned Unity into what it should have been.

@@LeoKRogue I say this everywhere I go and in every AC discussion I have, but AC Unity is THE final classic AC game where you get to keep your hood on at all times and traverse tall buildings that are close enough together for you to jump between. Syndicate destroyed that flow with the setting. London was great, but the buildings being so far apart from each other meant over reliance on the grappling hook which was a very poor man's version of Batman's grappling hook from the Arkham series. AC Unity will always live on as that last Assassin's Creed game that looked and felt like an Assassin's Creed game at first glance. It was also very sparse with the (now) useless modern timeline so that was also a huge plus.
Most of this is true. Present Day is also a critical part of Assassin's Creed's identity and what helped set it apart from a generic melee based stealth game, so its absence loses the game a lot of points, but everything else, hell yeah 10/10
I remember going through the Unity story mode, trying to fast travel (using the Dead Kings fast travel) and accidentally opening up Dead Kings... I was so confused but just played it and earned some good cash.
Quite the experience haha. Many a Unity player has found themselves in such a scenario.

Caught myself thinking that I really like these playthroughs with no upgrades. They are so different from how you would normally play the game that it makes these playthroughs unique, entertaining and also gives you similar feeling of something new, as when you're playing the game for the first time. I think I will also try to do a similar challenge for myself in the near future.
Also your videos are interesting and relaxing as always, I find myself often watching them when there are air raids in my city, really helps to relax.

Definitely give it a shot, the normal AC Unity game with No Upgrades is not terribly difficult if you know how Smoke Bombs and Berserk Blades work, it's just about being careful and taking your enemies seriously.

I actually found this dlc much easier than the main game, probably because all the missions gave so much money, so I could buy and upgrade quickly, and I always used smoke bombs and head shots and always looted their bodies in the catacombs because I’d run out so often. I was only up to like sequence 3 in the main game. But then after the DLC credits rolled I got the sword of suger and that helped the main game speed up so much.
Definitely! If you're playing 'normally,' Dead Kings just _floods_ you with cash and you can very quickly 'make up' the power disadvantage you might be operating at.
So chuffed to find this channel. Unity is my favourite AC, and one of my favourite games. Decided last night that I would play it again and looked up some content and stumbled on your work. It's always nice to find somebody that apparently loves and appreciates it as much, and/or more than I do.
Spent a few hours today watching some of your content, and despite having played through it 4 or 5 times already, I even learned a thing or two from you already; I shall no longer ignore Berzerk Blades (never considered using them as a stun tool)
It saddens me that still to this day the game gets quite a lot of 'hate', as I think it is where the series peaked. Like you, I play HUDless and without Eagle Vision. Unity's combat is perfectly paced/balanced for this as the Parry indicators are unnecessary due to the animations. This makes it my favourite for combat. The city is stunning to admire and wonderful to traverse. This makes it my favourite for Parkour as well as design. The parkour animations are great and varied too, and Arno will still sometimes do something that I think I haven't seen before. It has the best interiors of any AC game. The best customisation, both in clothing and weaponry. It has the best tool selection mechanic. I've never been as into the Abstergo/Desmond lore as a lot of people so I also appreciate Unity being a more self-contained story. Oh I do love it so. >_< So thank you, Leo. For championing this wonderful but under-appreciated (by the masses) title. I'll enjoy making my way through your back catalogue of content over the coming weeks and months.
One question, sir. And if the answer is "I just prefer it, mate" feel free to add a "so mind your own business" . . . but considering you obviously like the immersive factors Unity offers us, I wonder why you play in English and not in French with English Subtitles. Personally, I find the native language adds that extra 'je ne sais quoi' :D And I much prefer the French voice actor for Arno too. But that's just my opinion obviously.

Definitely check out the main game 2019 No Upgrades run too, as well as anything with either the "Ghost" or "Stealth Reaper" keywords in their titles. I make some guides as well, though you can decide for yourself how much value you can get out of them, most really avid Unity players know a lot of the things in them already.
As for why English Voice, it really is just a matter of, I prefer it. I play all Assassin's Creed games in English with English subtitles because I see it as the "intended" experience. That's all. I have played Unity in French and it's awesome, though. I've also played Unity in Japanese hahaha. That was hilarious.

I have a run just like it on the base game as well, not just Dead Kings.
When you try to fast travel and accidentally find yourself in the dlc
Then I didn't see how to get out so I played the whole thing with an underdeveloped character
I got a shit ton of money though

15-20 FPS the whole time, super high level enemies, multiple tries to do each mission, I hated this dlc, mostly because I suck at stealth in this game. Still, amazing gameplay. I love what you can do with so little
In 3 you have so many options, like whisper around corners, or rope darts, the bow. In unity I never felt as powerful, and it has been a frustrating experience.

Parkour is better than ever, and the missions are way more interesting than whatever 3 and 4 had

Why does no one talk about how much money you get from dead kings
Probably because they don't notice or realize it. By the time most players play Dead Kings, they already have so much money from the base game that it doesn't even register for them. But if you're playing on a low-money save file and then finish a Dead Kings Memory, you're suddenly loaded.
I just completed my second playthrough of this game, only this time it was a no upgrades run inspired by you. Made me look at the game a very different way because you can't just rush through environments and abuse the mechanics and bend the rules for yourself. Very eye opening and I think I need to change my playstyle for my main save game for more methodical approaches, it's a lot more rewarding in my opinion
Re-watching all of your ACU videos just bring back a nice memory from when I was a complete noob to the game and researching all the mechanics for this game and finding your channel and learning how to abuse it lol

Btw how likely do you think Madame Margot is Arno's long lost mother? I personally think it's very likely with the compilled evidence.
And the puzzles near the vault door are I think Biblical puzzles which makes sense give religion was a huge thing back when in Medieval Ages. The first puzzle makes you to do a cross, the second one is really hard since I don't really know how Ubi inteded us to know this but it's about the four horsemen of the apocalypse I think. Not sure what the last "puzzle" is about tho.
I find it pretty likely Mme Margot is Arno's mom, yeah.

Can't believe they made a more intimidating villian in three to four hours of story, than the one that was given 10- 15 Hours in the main game

I find this dlc runs smoother than the main game - it’s a smaller setting, and my MacBook doesn’t have enough vis ram for bigger places and crowds anyway
It probably varies from system to system, for sure. For me, it also _performs_ smoother than the base game, just like it does for you. It's just that despite being easier to actually run, I have more crashes when I play it than usual, likely because it had less polishing or patching done than the main game.

Did Arno just say that the Apple must reach Al Mualim? I swear Unity takes place WAYYYYY after AC1 but I could be wrong.
"Al Mualim" is not a name, it is a title. It means "The Teacher" or "The Mentor" in Arabic. The name of the Al Mualim we see in AC1 was Rashid ad-din Sinan.

On the character-model, or actually selectable? That's an interesting phenomenon since I never unlock anything from a menu, nor ever use any firearms except the Guillotine Gun.

This DLC reinforced my opinion that Napoleon should’ve been the main villain in AC Unity.
In this alternate story of mine, it’s revealed that Napoleon was playing Arno and the revolution the whole time just so he can become Emperor of France and lead the Templars in controlling the country. Standard Assassin’s Creed stuff, but make Napoleon actually win. After all, he didn’t die until after his exile. As Emperor of France, his security was too good for Assassins to handle. But when he was exiled? Arno would go and do it. Before he does though, they would share some words, talk about their experiences, and then finally, part ways. (Note, here in this head canon of mine Arno wasn’t the son of wealthy men, he was a poor boy whose father was killed therefore leading him to want to involve himself in the revolution.)
It would've been amazing, especially since as far back as AC2's "The Truth" Puzzles we'd seen Napoleon holding an Apple in his hands. This DLC seems like a clear attempt to actually touch on that after the main game didn't do much with him.
@@LeoKRogue It did do one thing, and that prophecy of Napoleon holding an apple came true. Replay the mission where you meet him, and watch him while he’s fidgeting at the desk in the cutscene, specifically when he opens the box. You’ll see what I mean, if you don’t know already.
Oh yeah, of course they had to pay a _little_ lip-service to him finding an artifact, but that golden glow is all we get until this DLC.
@@LeoKRogue I also wish they had Arno’s reason for being to be helpful towards the revolution primarily, coming from a poorer background, seeking revenge for his fathers death (not the linked to Rogue version of the story, just have something different) and then have him grow as the story progresses, that maybe full on revolution wasn’t the way, and that he made a mistake and now Napoleon wins because of it

I guess the only challenge you have left is doing stealth reapers with no skill/no upgrades; though it would exponentially increase challenge, I think that's the ultimate step.
I'm pretty sure I've done at least one of those, floating around somewhere, but the real issue with that is that Reapers are meant to be entertaining, flashy, and fast-paced. Doing No Upgrades Reaper is challenging to the player, but _boring to watch_ to the observer since it's just a bite-sized slice of gameplay instead of an entire playthrough where tension can be maintained. It's the worst of all worlds.

What do you mean Napoleon is evil "NOW"? First time we meet him, he is already looking for the Apple, which he finds. He is even ready to shoot Arno, but decides against it when Arno tells him he´s just looking for letters.
Yeah, he went from 'plausibly deniable' to 'oh, OHHH but he BAD bad.' IE he went from "this guy _might_ be shady" to "aha, so you're a comic-book villain, I gotcha."
@@LeoKRogue It makes him look a little bit worse, but tbh, he gives away the "ruthless, power-hungry bastard" vibe even during his first appearance, and is pretty honest about it, too. I guess there is a difference between words and actions, but still, his "turn" is hardly surprising. Maybe I am just more sensitive against this type of behavior, idk.
It might also be the fact that in this DLC, he is our antagonist, which makes him automatically much worse in our eyes. This "with me or against me" mentality can really give your moral compass a good spin. Immoral acts are very easily overlooked when the perpetrators are on our side, and being nice to us the whole time.
The way he's portrayed in cutscenes and dialogue between Base Game and Dead Kings is undeniably different, the contrast is massive.
If you took two players who've never played this game, had one watch Napoleon's base game cutscenes, and had another watch his Dead Kings cutscenes, then asked each to rate "How Evil Does This Guy _Seem,"_ Dead Kings Napoleon would be rated infinitely more highly on that scale.
That's because of the writing, lighting, cinematography, acting, everything. It's 100% intended to show him as significantly more corrupt than he started out as, which makes perfect sense because that's what Pieces of Eden _do_ to people. Great presentation here.

Outside of the Cafe Theatre there should be a Carriage with the 'F' Symbol on it, on the map and minimap. Walk up to that Carriage and accept the prompt when you get close to the marker. Does that work? Let me know.

I know I’m years late, but does your weapon unlock(pistol) regardless of the no upgrade run?
It shouldn't. The Guillotine Gun however _does_ unlock no matter what you do.
It occupies your Firearm slot as long as you have it equipped.

No, it's part of the main story and it becomes auto-equipped after the cutscene.

I had 72% total in Ac Unity, my Arno was a beast, I had so much money and I played through the whole Story. I lost ALL my data including AC Origins and Syndicate (Origins 230 Hours playtime) and I‘m thinking if I should replay all those games again because I love them so much. But damn, am I mad!!! Should I replay them? What would you have done?
You should. With your new knowledge of how the games work, you'll have an accelerated playthrough and be able to play more intentionally. I would replay them. ^_^

What HUD setup was used for this play through?
I'm not 100% certain since it's been 4 years now, but I _believe_ most of the time back then I would either Hold C [Keyboard] / Hold Right Stick [Controller] to make the HUD Fade Out. I don't believe it would've been All Hidden.

And as an aside, I feel like it’s not too difficult to make challenge runs for AC Unity. The game is already decently challenging by default so it doesn’t require many self imposed challenges.
I’m wondering if you did any videos for challenge runs on the other games in the series. Specifically the Ezio trilogy and the Kenway Saga.
The big rules I’ve used are no kill streaks, counter kills or using medicine to heal. That a removing lot of the HUD.

I think all you have to do is finish the first memory. With Stealth, Smoke, and Berserk Blades, it can be done. Also the first memory will give you ENORMOUS cash so you can upgrade yourself insanely.

Hi I've tried to install this on ps4 but unfortunately it won't let me play it even tho it says 'waiting to install' tried multiple times any ideas?
First, make sure you have enough space for it. Try deleting one extra game that you don't really need, even if it LOOKS like you have enough space, sometimes the numbers can be misleading. If that doesn't work, hover over the Assassin's Creed Unity icon on the Main PlayStation Menu, then scroll down with the DPAD/Left Stick until you can click the option that says something like "My Content." Get in there, and download the Dead Kings DLC manually.
I've downloaded it but whenever I go on the game and try to travel to franciade it still won't let me. Kinda sucks cause I really wanted to play it again :/
Why did you have a pistol if you didn't get any skills?
I'm not sure, honestly. The game just _puts it on my hip_ during the Madame Margot cutscene starting at 14:24, but it's completely unusable because I don't have the skill. You can see proof of this as, at 17:13 when I tool-select here, there's actually nothing in that slot except a Red Question mark, even though it's obviously on my hip, so I can't select it or fire it, it's just a useless visual oddity.

Yeah, I see it. It's very strange, because Arno doesn't actually have the Pistol Skill equipped (I don't open my Skill Screen at any time during either of these two videos).
Notice that the gun is actually NOT SELECTABLE when I go to select Smoke/Blades and stuff like that. It's on his hip as part of his graphics, but you can't actually use it. At 17:12 (same memory) you can see the Firearm Slot is Red/Question Marked.
In the Memory just before this one, he doesn't have it on his character-model, but as soon as I speak with Madame Margot during the cutscene at 14:25, when the next memory is loaded, he has it on his hip.

I tried to do that a few times, but they just kept crashing over and over again until I gave up. I was actually doing pretty well overall but the constant crashing when soloing the Co Op missions and Heists just exhausted me. :[

There's no HUD in this video. There's No HUD in the base game No Upgrades run on my channel, either. Unity is way too pretty to have a bunch of UI plastered on the screen. :P

I kinda screwed up with this. I thought I was fast travelling to an objective, but I jumped into this DLC. And it is lagging too much, and Arno keeps falling through the ground. And I don't know why, but my smoke grenade isn't working either. I hadn't even completed sequence 5! I'm helpless
D: Definitely try to finish the first memory, and then try to warp back to the main Paris map.
@@LeoKRogue That's the thing! I can't go back till I clear memory 2. I read that on ubisoft forum. And the game keeps crashing or glitching. Since the last 6-8 hours, I've been trying to get inside the basilica. I'm soo frustrated right now. And for some reason, my smoke bombs do not work. They do not deal with the detection meter, nor do they allow me to assassinate the guards. I think something is really messed up with my copy of the game
Man... Jeez. It might be faster and less frustrating to honestly delete your save data and play from the beginning. Sequence 5 doesn't take much time to reach if you've already played it once. I would do that.

The Pistol is a Skill. No Upgrades. I'm not allowed to go into the Skill or Gear Menu even once. This is something that carries over from my base game No Upgrades run into this DLC.

I don't. You can back up your save and then paste it back in when you're finished with the DLC. If you're on PS4 you can use a USB Drive, if you're on PC you can look for its Save Directory and disable Uplay/Ubisoft Connect's cloud-saving.
