    Things I learned from racing the 1G DSM over the years is this: First and foremost, before any mod build your transmission to the teeth and get a quality clutch and adjust the hydraulics properly! You do that and you've taken care of 90% of DSM issues, then you can have a very fun, VERY fast AWD car to absolutely destroy most things on the street.

    I changed the transmission on a 93 eclipse with my buddy. We took a bunch of adderall and made it happen. It went well, minus some seized bolts. Then, not even a month later, he blew up the engine due to a major oil leak hahahaha fun car though. RIP. Ps my grandma had a 91 eclipse gsx like this one. Those seat belts tripped me out as a kid.

      +tylersevo The 2G's 4G63 probably crank walked itself to death. I see more 89-94s then 95-99s due to engines like to destroy themselves. 2G used a crank angle sensor that got shredded vs 1Gs had Cam angle sensor.

    My parents bought the 89 or 90 Gs turbo black. 16 v dual ohc turbo. For this time it was crazy fast considering it's weight and size. The Goodyear's were nice and wide and 16s. All stock it was sick fast. They had that cat showroom quality almost factory kept til 08 when a cousin in law backed over it in aunts driveway. Insurance totalled it. I was stupid pissed off. I wanted it. They were given 2k for it. Mom was sick. She loved it. Ever see a at the time 67 year old bark in third....that was her. The car could climb super fast on 0 to 60 but pulled from 55 with a 3rd gear drop up to 7k. Stupid fast. RIP.

    pretty nuts just how much more "CAR" a 4-500hp stroker GSX is vs a GST with 4-500hp. Not hating but im sure most of us would rather have a list of other cars with 4-500hp in FF than a gst. On the other hand a GSX with 4-500 HP....largely has my attention in 1G and 2G. 1G especially just bc of how much older it looks it has that much more of a sleeper appeal....granted you have to know jack about cars considering how this sounds to a real car guy theyd know whats up pretty quick.

    I enjoyed that since I have a 91 GST. That I have had since new. I wish I had gotten the GSX. It is basically stock but stuff that broke or wore out has been upgraded to EVO III stuff. The car is still very clean. Thought about selling it but it is worth more to me that I could get for it. I expect I will get low ball $2000 offers but I think it is worth about $7k since there are very few to be had in this condition. I need to sort out the suspension tuning on it.

    I miss my 20g/E85 1990 Talon. It leaked oil, didn't like to start, and would randomly die on me but there was no car on the planet I would rather have been driving at the time. Ate my brothers 2006 CTS-V on the highway. It had 186k on the motor at the time. I was planning on getting it prepped for road course duty when it was totaled on an icy night in a highway collision with an out of control SUV driver. I was soo pissed I cried.
    I'm 37 years old with a well paying job and if I ever find another clean 1g, wife be damned, I'm getting it. I've owned Evos, WRXs, a mazdaspeed and a few Audis and nothing comes close to the experience of driving a clean 1g.

  • @Revitalyzed
    @Revitalyzed 8 лет назад +2

    Super clean 1G! I owned a 1G Talon about 3 years ago and it was an absolute mess. You gotta be really picky when purchasing a DSM. The 4G63, in bad hands, is a money pit to work on. However, if you get a good motor, like this one, and you build is accordingly, it will reward you. Hitting boost in a 4G63 is one of the greatest things I've ever felt and it's definitely an experience every car enthusiast should feel. It's insane.

    These reviews are great but I HATE the roads, it would be good for a mile or so to test suspension but it doesn't provide much opportunity to really lay into it. For anyone interested he finally finds a spot to go full out at 11:45

    1990 Talon TSI AWD with swapped red top 4G63, big 16G turbo, 4 bolt rear end....former owner from 10 years ago checking in. DSM- driver slash mechanic. When my car ran, it devastated all...but it ran good about once a month. The rest of the time I was in the constant process of fixing something. Leaking transfer case, boost leaks, clutch, oil cooler lines, turbo banjo bolts, injectors and fuel pump, rattling and leaking sunroof. Still, for 1990 Talon/Laser/Eclipse cars were ground breaking, with "free" mods they dusted almost every domestic car from their time period. Driver focused cockpit and very slick factory transmission were definitely a huge bonus.

    this didn't help me at all. I haven't had a 1g in 10 yrs. but you don't need all that for that kind of power. I had cams, afc neo, td06 20g, and all supporting mods and made 421 awhp. but like he said, the transmission didn't like that too much. and mine was ugly, I loved it!

    A properly prepared DSM won't break on you. Of course when you add power to cars without supporting mods and that are 2 decades old you will break stuff. Plus, just look at how he put it together....there is a computer hanging out in the passenger leg well.

    • @CaptainTonus
      @CaptainTonus 8 лет назад

      In 10 years of having my car, it's rarely left me stranded, and there certainly haven't been any issues caused by my ECU "hanging out in the passenger leg well". We were limited by space, and there was simply nowhere else to put it. Being a megasquirt, there is a vacuum line that goes to the ECU for the MAP sensor, and you need to be able to have easy access to not only that, but the serial port for tuning/datalogging.

    • @ilyaf6859
      @ilyaf6859 8 лет назад

      Fair enough. Hearing decade long DSM badmouthing because of some owners carelessly making huge power, I tend to be skeptical about some cars. I merely commented on what I saw.
