And it even has a sunroof! I have always been amazed at the 1G DSM and its' potential for this, such a go-kart type barebones platform that just screams out to be customized. This beast just looks FUN.
I got a 91 awd turbo and the traction is awesome. Went wide open throttle in the rain at 28 psi with summer tires and it still hooked up. Tires never spin and its a great feeling.
I had the same one 1992 tsi awd, back in 2001 that was my first and favorite car , it was stock and ill never forged that "whissle" turbo, i miss it soo much. Ill never forget snowy and icy days while going uphill in 3rd like nothing while 4x4 pickups cant even move.
All these years later and a 1G DSM is still a fuckin' sexy ass car. I owned 2 of them, and I just fell in love with that low slung seat with the wraparound dash and console. It feels like a fighter jet cockpit as much as a car's. Plus a good six bolt will handle 450 HP worth of boost on stock internals and still be reliable. Very few engines can do that.
The Talon TSI is what made me want an AWD and a Turbo setup. So I ended up going with an SRT-4 Stage 2 for the turbo car and an AWD Trailblazer 3SS for the AWD.
Enjoy your SRT-4. Mine was Stage 3R. I have a Focus ST (2016) now, but I want another SRT-4 since rough one is less than $3000 in many cases. 500-550 hp on stock internals....
I worked at a Eagle/Jeep dealership in the mid-late 90s and drive these new for various reasons. The two that stand out are a black awd turbo. It was fun. I didn’t give any of them.. but one full send. The blk awd 5-spd turbo was so fun to shift slow and watch/feel the boost happen at like half or %60 throttle. I did not launch it.. too much respect don’t want that done to me. I was in shotgun for a violent no cause for launch turning right from a dead stop to another road. It was terrible wheel hop and thought something would break and dude driving was 250+ the black 5spd awd though It handled well.. not much body roll. Then the turbo awd auto. It was slow but impressionable. You could play with a couple buttons to tune a little and switch on the shifter for o/d off/on.. you want it off ha. I spent most of the time in 2nd gear to even feel the boost much.m but was ok then. I bet on the highway on cruise it would do well on fuel. The most impressive one was a talon tsi fwd turbo 5spd. It came in for: customer states: “not as fast as it used to be” I thought the service mgr. was playing a joke and printed that up because all I can do is go see how fast it is in comparison to the ones I’ve felt up but not raped. This white fwd I’d ease the clutch out and then come into the pedal and every time I can’t recall rpm wish I could but mid range so 3800-4200 ish it would start squalling the front tires.. every time lol and would squall 2nd also. I didn’t know what to tell them other than it performs as it should. In my mind I was like that’s the best running one I’ve driven and would love to buy it. Coool cars and my first experience with turbos. They were hard to beat.
The last best one for me was a 1994 Eagle Talon tsi. 5spd, white and it ran so good stock. Only problems I saw consistently was brake warpage. The brakes were strong but the rotor wasn’t designed well. I’m sure there are lots of fixes for that now and I’d love to have a fwd 5spd turbo tsi or gsx I wouldn’t pay more for awd because I know the loss in parasitic drag but I’d do the deal on an equally nice awd because it would then compare to subi awd and that would be fun. In Ohio I’d have to drive it in the snow. Can’t help it.. leave the 4wd suv home and see how the tsi goes. I’m going to look for a dsm awd video now in the snow.
I'll never forget the years I owned a 92 Talon TSI awd and a 98 Talon TSI awd. What a complete nightmare those DSMs are. I went through so many motors. Exactly. That is why people start buying trailers and trucks to haul their car around. I believe if you have to tow it then it's not fun waiting for stuff to break. Especially at the middle class level of things, you are not a professional race team where they have all the spare parts they need.
