North Carolina was the mecca for kickass indie bands from the 90's. Polvo, Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, The Raymond Brake...
Ben Folds Five, Mathew Sweet, Small 23...as well.
Ben Folds Five? Come on. I'll give you Small 23 though.
I remember Raymond Brake playing in my small town of Chico, CA back in the day. I friggin' loved them. Piles of Dirty Winters is tops on my list of albums.
In cor crane liner notes they bought seams old bus u forgot them twats
Mary Ragghianti are you driving me crazy?
Ash’s face as he’s talking to the bear is the best part of this video
Yes! Ash Bowie and Keanu Reeves were my first two crushes growing up. 😍😍🤤🤤
Math Rock at its best. Simple and complicated. They are still so underrated.
This CD was released during a golden age of Chapel Hill indie rock. Polvo mastered a certain "loose-tightness" while reinventing the guitar. Again. Steve was the most under-rated bass player but a cornerstone and foundation that allowed guitars to careen into the twilight zone. Got to hang with them briefly in the hill. They are gentlemen and mighty fine basketball players! On your next road trip, put on their first album corcrane secret and their latest album and see how they've evolved.
I was in my early 20's when this came out, and I can't think of a band that better captured the nervous, anxious and somewhat depressed energy of an outsider Gen Xer at that time.
nigga you gau
Imagine how delighted us Iowans were to hear “Snowstorm in Iowa”
"Steve was the most under-rated bass player but a cornerstone and foundation that allowed guitars to careen into the twilight zone."
I just learned about this band, loving them and that comment is very astute. Right away I can hear it now that you pointed it out =)
How exactly did they reinvent the guitar? I fucking love the band but I don't know what you're talking about 😂
great band, I used to skate/surf get prepumped before a session back around '93 to this band. I FINALLY got to see them play last year at a small venue...I was stoked.
that basketball into the trash can scene is too much to handle
Yes yes
i just cant get enough of this song...and video
keep listening over and over...
I was 9 years old when this album came out and only discovered Polvo a couple years ago, but this song/video gives me so much nostalgia.
I had a taxi cab yellow 1975 Nova like this one. Total power with a straight 6 engine.
I love how you can just barely hear a band member (Ash?) count off "1, 2, 3, 4" at the 2:37 mark right before the intense ending. Such a mind-shredding masterpiece of an EP... I bought it in 2001 and am still trying to wrap my head around it.
ibelieveicansoar it’s the drummer I’d imagine
Holy shit.... this is pure gold.
the guitar tones of this album are so interesting
saw these guys live! Awesome dtune rockers! Madison WI
Coolest weirdest guitar sound ever.
78deathface it sounds like king crimson
@@matt-tp1ww I don't know how you get King Crimson out of it.
Check out My Dad Is Dead.
@@stephenroche5107 great band. Sound nothing like Polvo
Polvo don’t give a f-k. You can’t make up a sound line theirs as to this day, no has even come close. Incredible genius from a bunch of NC tobacco farmers’ sons. Go speed Polvo, go!
Right on. They were the soundtrack to my early 20's. Amazing time.
Lol
0:45 Oh look, they just bought a sitar. So be prepared.
Chorus, Isolate, Confirm damn, beaten by a whole year
Heard this song when I was a child, I think it was on UNCG radio. Cool to finally hear the whole thing. triggered some memories.
Polvo got me through college! ... They are the Best!
this ending is awesome
One of the very best unsung heroics from the 90s. The only reason I know Chapel Hill is a place.
Last scene is the definition of “I’ve won but at what cost?”
Dan Gurney would be so proud.
I love polvo and other North carolina-chapel Hill sort of area bands from Australia we tour dwith Archers of loaf which was amazing our Styles definitely influenced by polvo
The money shot
Chapel Hill man , between these guys and Archer of Loaf Chapel hill was doing its thang !
Long live to Polvo.
Fuck yeah.
Cool video for a great band. Fun to see the artists you like for their music also express themselves through pictures. And I agree, it does leave you feeling like you've had 3 cups of coffee.
I have every polvo album they put out! saw them live in club in Madison WI! my mom stole my T- shirt I got. They rock!!!!
good to hear this again after all these years.
Amazing song, love it. What a unique band.
the garage stink is still on this ...and thats a good thing
Haha, yeah
this song is amazing
RIP Eddie
Who's eddie?
@@rodrigoc8179 the drummer, died in 2016 at 53
Matthias silvestri no, he died at 47
I listened to this band in 2012. I listen to it now in 2021. All I can say is, I feel trapped between generations. I'm too late to get this band as it was at the time. I'm too late to get this band as understood back then. Too late to even understand as it was back when I listened to it back in 2012. I'm here in 2021 and I don't know what the future brings. When I think about it, I'm so out of time.
This is an outsider band. You never have to be early or on time to get it. In fact, late is perfect.
Brings back good memories.
Fun! Been there in my youth. We recorded a juiced-up cover of Dylan's "You're a Big Girl Now." Why? I have no idea.
Where were you then?
god i love this song!!
awesome song
This video really augments the music. Hilarious ending.
My vision is augmented
this track is fire!
i love this song...
Got sent here from a reply to a comment I left on a Hella video. I can kinda hear it. Not quite as mathy or metallic as Hella, but the guitar tone and the the attitude are definitely similar
Thank you Spotify, for introducing us to each other
THAT'S THE BEST VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN.
amazing
This is awesome
this song's on Celebrate the New Dark Age, which is pretty great. Today's Active Lifestyles is good too, so's their newest, In Prism.
Awesome
Forever
Love when they do the zz top moves
Yay!
I for real drooled listening to this. But I play drums, that should be expected.
Best vid ever
Super Sebadoh! That can't be a bad thing. ;)
This video is best
Awesome math rock!
First time listening to this, gotta say im not to sure about it but im feeling dangerous. Might as well listen to a album or two
COOL
3:02 shades of the end of the Windowlicker video right here
I am loving the intsrumentals in this song! This is definitely a underrated band. What a shame...
i think i like this
Icky mettle, foolish and Corcrane was every summer for me in the 90's it seems. Throw in lemonheads, fugazi, and Juliana hatfeild
love this band and tune
nice
Nothing hip cool or clever to post. I just stumbled upon Polvo tonight after perhaps 15+years!!. Kinda forgot about them, as w so many amazing math timed indie bands... Had maybe 4 Polvo albums @ one point .. They are a tremendously talented group.....
That was fucking cool
dios
What album should I start with of theirs?
Can we go back to 1994?
Question, what is that beautiful sunburst hofner looking guitar?
RIP :(
FUCKING SICK SONG
polvo eres y polvo serás
The riff sounds like king crimson.
2:10
Defiantly feeling a dinosuar jr vibe here
Defiantly suggesting that Polvo was more interesting than Djr.
And sonic youth too..
Silent Queue wait I don't understand your comment
Definitely
@@silentqueue2344 Listen to the first three albums, you'll change your mind.
1:40, John Peel used to say he would probably from crashing into the back of a truck while trying to read a band name on an old cassette. careful kids ;-)
I'd say this one - Celebrate the New Dark Age. Then get Exploded Drawing.
Tragic carpet ride, funny.
1:33 guitar brand? anyone?
Looks like it could be a 1960s EKO, or a Japanese bolt-neck import.
Kent 834
They don't make em like that anymore.
Oh nice. Did you make the wine?@@purplesage993
why is yt showing a bunch of mv from 12 to 15 years ago ???
What guitar is Ash playing next to Eddie?
Looks like a Kawai / Kingston s4t or some iteration or copy thereof
that ash bowie? so young.
@No Lives Matter did you ever talk to him? seems like a shy but down to earth dude
@No Lives Matter aw thats wholesome as hell, thanks for sharing. polvo is one of my favorite bands and i always find anecdotes about them intriguing
Damn, looks like he almost lost it in that first turn
Tragic Carpet Ride
Polvo
Tell me about everywhere you've been
So I can hold it over your head
Tell me about everyone you've known
Memories of passionate friends
Who's in the back of your mind
Come on, there must be something you'd like to share
I won't say that nobody told me
And you can never say that nobody cared
I won't get out
I'd rather burn
I won't trust scarred survivors
And I will never learn
Looking for the story of another disbeliever
Fascinated eyes open wide
Every opportunity the eager receiver
Tracing every step outside
Don't back away from me now
There's a strategy I'm willing to use
Stand in my path and I will state
Cause there's some shit that I'm willing to lose
I won't get out
I'd rather burn
I won't trust scarred survivors
And I will never learn
Tell me that you understand
Tell me why you look concerned
Tell me that you know
Or I will never learn
These lyrics scream of an insanely insecure and jealous lover obsessed with his girlfriend's past sexual history and who is searching for current infidelity that most likely exists only in his mind ... Chilling.
And I will state
“There’s an assumption that I’m ready to lose”
@@JeffjrNeiss Yeah I've realized in the few polvo songs I've seen the lyrics to they usually have some sort of fucked up narrator with very obvious issues. Weird how chilling the lyrics are to this song and others, but I think it kinda fits the atmosphere.
Is that the actor from KIDS?
Sounds like Jawbox.
This beats jawbox in my opinion but I also like jawbox
Butterfingers from Malayzia..
Thought I had clicked on a Sebadoh vid by mistake.
ohyou.gif
gomertube ironically sent here from a Lou Barlow Facebook post
I see where FF got there sound now
foos were inspired by stuff like pixies and husker du. polvo were more inspired by sonic youth and mission of burma I think
+Chris Knight captain beefheart
Captain had a huge influence on real psychedelically inclined musicians.
early Foos I swear there's a clear link from the fact Nate Mendel came from Sunny Day Real Estate, too
@@chrisknight3734agree
Butter was here
Actually, they remind me of Seaweed.
tell me why you look concerned
inverted halo tell me that you know
Ash won!! :)
Cross Dinosaur Junior with Dave Grohl and you get this. Not really but sorta. Throw in a dash of Sonic Youth. I like it, I'm not hatin'.
POLVO is way more awesome than all of them
My mom stole my Polvo T- shirt!!?
You have to get that back and then give to me
Drop B to hipshot
Ni ke yang MonoloQue cakap
The guitars for the verses make me feel really uncomfortable.
Yes supposed to a bit I think. All good music from this era has an edge you just don't find these days.
Beautifully put. I was watching the bands at Coachella today, and they are all squeaky clean and earnest. Polvo had the perfect amount of mystery, angularity and inscrutability. Music today has no mystery or danger.
that’s the best part!
4 years later and I'm still jamming!
Polvo had absolutely terrible lyrics and song titles, but absolutely incredible tunes. I love them to death for this.
A lot Gum chewing going on....🤷♂️
Cross Dinosaur Junior with Dave Grohl and you get this. Not really but sorta. Throw in a dash of Sonic Youth. I like it, I'm not hatin'.
chapel hill----not a fan at all. NC----not a fan at all. going back north.
+Jon Focker Polvo isn't really like any of those bands.
Augrills
i was drunk when i wrote that lol and can't like everything
