every blogger seems to want to say skinny jeans are out. However, fashion is still showing them everywhere. They are still a flattering. structured style that are easily worn with different shoes. Truly stylish women wear what works and don't follow trends. I'll add a semi-flared to my wardrobe, but at 62 and a runner, I'm not ready to cover up my long, sculpted legs and tight bum. skinnies are going nowhere, but there's room for the occasional variation.

From my personal experience shopping online and in stores, I’m still seeing that skinny jeans make up the majority of inventory. And from walking around in day-to-day life, I’m seeing the majority of women (including high schoolers) are still wearing skinny jeans.
Certain people are trying to make wide leg and other baggy style jeans happens, just like Gretchen in Mean Girls tried to make “fetch” happen. 😂 I’m sorry, but the only people who can pull those styles off are of the super-skinny, straight up-and-down body styles. And if you look around, that’s only a teeny tiny percentage of the population. I can go along with some straight leg and bootcut jeans, but I have no plans to throw out my skinny jeans any time soon. 😂

I Agree....It is Not Cookie Cutter ...We Do Not All Have the Same Body. If You are Over 40....You Have a Nice Body ...and Take Care of Your Body ...I Don't See Why You Cannot Wear Skinny Jeans and it All Depends With What You Wear it. I Do Not Go With The Style. I Go With What Looks Good on Myself and With What Suits Me.

I don't think the skinny is ever going away. In my opinion it's just not practical to hop on every trend. Wear what looks good and makes you feel great. Personally I don't care for the oversize trend that's going on, even if you're thin it can make you look dumpy. But I do like the high waisted jeans and think they're more flattering than the low rise, no more muffin tops!

I wore nothing but flares and bootcut as a teenager. At the time every bit of style advice was about how flattering a bootcut jean was and we all forgot when skinnies came along. And I also remember how it took years for everyone to get converted to skinnies, so it's funny now to see everyone try to get persuaded to try flares! IMO, bootcut/flare looks more sophisticated, so I'm glad to see they are making a comeback. I'll never give up black skinnies though. They're a classic to me.

I have had a very hard time transitioning out of my skinny jeans… Still wear them sometimes.
I recently discovered the boot cut/mini flare and have found them to be a nice transition out of my skinny jeans. The thing that I feel that people do not discuss enough is how your body type really matters and how a Jean is going to look and accentuate a persons body. I am in hourglass so many of the baggier looser, wider type of Jean I feel does not look good on me at all I feel that it just makes me look frumpy. I do not feel good in that type of look. Another thing that I think it’s important to mention is that it would be lovely to get a few more name brands that are affordable for most people that are not above the hundred- $150 price ticket. I very much enjoy this channel and I would love to see a few more affordable brands mentioned. On another channel a lovely mini flare Jean was discussed by Old Navy for example.
Thanks for all you do 😊🌸

They have very affordable jeans. They have sizes: regular, tall, and petite (this is so rare when you have a brand that sells petite sizes). They have all sort of styles as well so it will be very helpful to see what you think about the quality of jeans from gap and what style works or does not. Thank you so much!

Also, I've found some of my favorite jeans at Forever 21 (premium denim collection), target and H & M. I mostly buy 99 to 98 percent cotton, heavier weave fabric. Levi's has great jeans and sales. I recently bought a pair of jeans from Tractor Supply for under $15. that I work in, but have gotten compliments on them. There are a lot of super stylish reasonably priced denim out there....thank goodness because they are my wardrobe staple. For business smart casual, I wear wider leg dark wash, they work very well.

I'm saying wear the Jeans that you love, that are flattering your body shape, that make you feel sexy and good. Trends come and trends go. Our personal style is the most important that follows after the trend! For me the straight loose jeans and flair works perfect and I had them before this trend started as I have a pear body shape so it looks best on me.

I did not expect to be on board with pleats, but I loooove them and find them really easy to style. It probably helps that I always do a full tuck or front tuck with my tops. I have a bottom hour glass figure and the pleats somehow don't make me look bulkier, but are flattering. I think part of it is that the pleats sit flat, but allow for more curves, so there is more space for my hips an thighs. If you don't have curves, I think the right pair of pleated pants could make you look curvier with hips and a smaller waist.

Yes, I have a similar body type to you & have realised that not all pleats are created equal - you've got double pleats & reverse pleats, etc. I usually do best with enough pleating to cover the pooch, but in a softer fabric so that it drapes instead of sticks out - not too many or menswear inspired please, lol.

I love flare and bootcut. I like the skinnies for certain things, like you mentioned under a long boot. I’m so glad 1990’s jeans are back. I’ve been waiting for it!!! 🎉 Agreed on the wear of good vs poor quality denim. Bought some recent trendy denim from American eagle bc I loved the pockets of this one pair, they pill in my inner thigh area. Bummer 😔. Back to nicer jeans!! 😊

From what I am seeing it's more about what you put your denim with and how you style it-you can make any shape work (except maybe the
"jegging" style?) just pair with the right shoe and and jacket/blouse/sweater. Even our skinny's can work with a tall boot or a ballet flat and loose sweater. Having so many options is fantastic -just takes a bit of thought. Thanks for your always excellent suggestions.

But I never think it's a good idea to get rid of good denim.

Compliments from both men & women too!

Great timing! Today, I wore my wide legged jeans to brunch with silver ballet flats and a pink linen button-up. I just probably should have worn a belt as it's loose in the waist and wasn't doing me any favors there, but very comfy. I am 5'2 and pear-shaped, so I'm weary of heavy cargo pockets or pleats. I also love the look of raw hem. I'm curious about the Canadian Tuxedo (makes me laugh everytime), I don't think I'd be able to pull it off as modern, but am excited about the challenge.

I ditched my awful skinny jeans in 2001 after watching your videos, Erin. They were the worst fit for me, and I was so mad when they took over the world again in the late 2000s. Thanks so much for giving me new ideas, as everyone where I live is still wearing them (and icky jeggings with crop tops) in 2024. I realized I was lost in my late 40s without my old, fashion magazines, but your channel came to my rescue, especially since we are the same age. I first bought straight leg jeans (now too small), then a slightly loose fit (now too big), and most recently a flare/wide leg style (still deciding if they're worth the price). Much appreciation for all the tips!

I share these trend videos mainly because it is fun to study the new trends! But as always, you should only wear the things that you love and feel confident in. As I mentioned to start, it's important to spend 80% of your wardrobe budget on quality basics and only 20% on the trends that truly speak to you. The best thing about all of these styles and jean silhouettes is that there's truly a shape for everyone! xo

Love your advice. Would you consider creating a video on classic style shoes to buy that will not be considered a fad but can be worn for many years to come. At age 62, I’m at the point in life that I want to buy shoes that I will be able to wear out while looking current. Example ..I love the Madewell brand loafers but are they trendy or classic in design? What style ankle boots are comfortable and are classic in design…The same info for flats, boots, booties, pumps etc would be great to know. When you get to be my age, some like me want to look current but we have to be careful that the shoes have some cushioning in the footbed. The only caveat to that is the requirement that they absolutely do not look like they are for “old” people. 😂

Thanks Erin for the suggestions. Always interested in choices. Skinny’s are still everywhere along with (I don’t get it….leggings). The comparison of skinny and wide leg was an eye opener. Personally, I like the more relaxed comfort. The wide leg/boot cut is not as attractive unless you wear a heel, which IMO is a negative. I also found the wide leg looks better on me as a cropped. The straight is a no brainer. My personal favorite is the trouser. I’ve worn them out to dinner. They look classy and are very comfortable.

Hi beautiful girl...I am loving the second look with bootcut jeans. I love how you styled everything and love your choice of sweaters, blazers and jackets. I love it all. I need to get my winter blazers out. I am hour glass and bootcut definitely look better. Some of my friends will not even try a flare leg. I just thrifted ( like new) Levis..Perfectly Slimmimg 512 boot cut dark jeans in a short. They are still available for us real shorties. I like my bootcut long and the short still are long enough. I feel taller in them. I have a black dressier bootcut, and two other pairs of bootcut jeans, four pair of straight and kept two skinny pairs for boots. You look amazing in all styles. My husband noticed right away I had new bootcut jeans. I relate hair to clothes since I did hair over forty years. Every style with hair comes back..braids had their moment ( I loved doing braids with uodos), super straight , wavy, curly, half up, Farrah Fawcett styles ...all come and go . I wonder if really curly hair..or perms from the 70s will come back ? Mullets made a come back on the runway a couple of years ago, but most people said Noooooo!!! Hope the rest of your week is great. We went to a circus themed raffle party and I went as a circus ring leader and part time lion tamer. I wore my band looking blazer, a black hat with a red ribbon , a walking stick I spray painted black with gold rope trim...no money spent. My husband went as a circus worker...he was a food vendor. He " sold" corn dogs...had an old apron on with a sign saying "Get your corn dogs here" ..had real corn dogs in a red plastic basket, had a goofy hat, rolled up jeans and loafers. He was original! Gosh...sorry for long comment..feel like I am talking to a friend o have had for a long time. ♡♡♡

Erin- great tips! Thank you. If I had my way, lower rise and looser/flared jeans would be my ideal fashion choice. I keep waiting for high rise cut to go away !!! Younger girls like the higher rise, but they’re so “mom jeans” and frumpy looking imo. The only problem with flared jeans is they look better with higher heels, but lower heels/sneakers are so much more comfortable. I just wanted to say you keep looking more beautiful as time goes by. 😊

The only way low rise loo better is with a crop top, and you cant wear a crop top every day. Otherwise low rise jeans are not comfortable, make everyone's legs look short, make behind look like its not separated, and just look thrifted. On me, I always end up with camel toe with low rise, because they keep trying to climb up, unless they are super low rise, in which case they tend to fall down. Just not practical. Remember, that people have worn bottoms at the waist for most of the time humanity has worn clothing. The only exception is in the early 2000. So, you might just have to wear thrifted jeans and wear them alone. Nothing wrong with that.
