Bought a pair of the Military and Marine 8x30 binoculars in the early 1990’s. They are marked W. Germany. Had to replace the eye cups. No other problems at all. Cannot remember the price. Regardless, worth every penny paid!

i got a 2035 Military Marine 10x50, and nowhere it says Made in Germany. Not on the packaging, or on the binocular itself.

I had ordered and returned three brand new 7X50 Steiner Commanders with the open bridge. The first one from Hodges Marine had two visible scratches inside the left eyepiece between the lens elements. Returned those. Second pair from Amazon had a 10mm x 5mm glue stain right next to the Commander logo from sloppy gluing at the factory. The third pair from B&H had some odd issue where only the right half of the image in the left barrel was in focus while the left was blurry. Found out that the left eyepiece was canted during assembly at the factory. Sorry, but a $100 pair of Chinese optics will beat these $1500 German made Commanders any day of the week.

The Steiner website says that All Binoculars are made in Germany.
This cannot be a lie so the only explanation is that in the cheaper models they use cheaper lenses probably made in China and East Europe. This way they can still print Made in Germany on the box.

Probably the cheapest ones use parts from China and Eastern Europe before final assembly is done in Germany, you an tell what are those by the 10 years warranty. The porros and some roofs with 30 years warranty or lifetime warranties are fully german. I suspect the older Military and Marine were fully german as are the current Military 750r. But the classic no frills Military and Marine now might use components made elsewhere since they are now far cheaper that in 1999 when I bought mine. Also the warranty seems far shorter in years now. In the 1990s a Military and Marine costed about 450 USD average and came with with a longer warranty, 30 years, now you can get them from less that 300 dollars and come with 10 years warranty.
PD, another suspect country in Asia is Vietnam. The source of many counterfeit Steiners.

@@ricardosoto5770 About 15 years ago I checked with Steiner service (USA) about refurbishing my 1983 8x30 Military-Marines. They wanted to offer a new pair for a very low price. But I'd heard a rumor that Steiner was getting glass from China. So I asked the lady about and she confirmed they were getting glass from China.
Even many Japanese optics are getting their glass from China according to a Leupold representative, who admitted Leupold gets all its glass from Chy-na. Disappointing to hear. I was such a fan of my West German Steiners but time and use has taken its toll.

The Steiner binoculars I looked through in the past were not good image quality. I do like my Kowa Genesis 8x33 excellent optics and build quality made in Japan.

"Made in Germany" is clearly defined, so you are very vague and actually wrong in what you are implaying here. Steiner is made in Germany, the price is not a criteria. "Made in" is a defined term in the western world not as fishy as you are describing it here, it does not mean where certain components are coming from. Not to mention that the finally quality delivered and the warranty are on top. So this video here is misleading and not very useful
