Drinking a glass of water with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and a teaspoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of Metamucil before and going for a 30 minute walk after eating a Big Mac meal or a personal size pizza will slow down the absorption of carbs and reduce the sugar spike. It works for me

The tips on this channel have really helped. Also understanding how to layers foods to reduce rapid absorption of carbs has helped. For instance, eat veg (salad or pickle) or protein before consuming carbs on the plate…eat fruit last. He also lost 50 pounds in the process, so he’s much more active which has a positive affect on A1C. He also stopped eating 2 hours before bed, and he gets better sleep.

Not overboard at all. The western medical community in general is even ignorant of many of these things that Justin has presented and the big food-producing corps want us to get and stay addicted to sugar, carbs, bad fats, etc. I've been on keto (ish) for about 5 years a la Dr. Berg with really positive results. I lost 20 lbs. (3 pants sizes (from 12 to 6) and my energy and fitness level is higher than 25 years ago. I'm thinking of competing in the Senior games in track! People who meet me after 10 or 20 years cannot believe it and hound me as to what I'm doing. It's a good feeling to be even healthier than when I was younger as I've been into health and fitness for over 45 years. But Berg even said that he learned stuff from Justin and promotes the Insulin Resistant channel.

I had to do something about the way I used to eat. I would eat just about anything and everything out there. I'm 55 years old, and I was at my heaviest weight, pushing 350 pounds. I have been on a very strict healthy keto for 1 and a half years now, lost over 100 pounds, and finally, after 25 years on prescription medication, I'm off all of them. Honestly, I don't ever remember feeling as good as I do now. I discipline myself and restrict all the bad unhealthy foods out of my diet. I personally never thought I would be able to give up my old eating habits, but I did and I know it works, if wanna achieve something in life you can do it and put your thinking cap on.

Personally, I find that a Bic Mac meal really spikes my BS, whereas a Whopper from Burger King or a Double Burger from Wendys will not. I was quite surprised.
Also get some symptoms if my BS is high - my legs below the knees feel tingly, and I feel tired but somehow restless at the same time - this makes me want to sleep but also be unable to because of the discomfort. Not something I had noticed prior to becoming more aware of how I felt after meals, and paying closer attention to trying to eat better.

Agreed. What we feed our bodies in our teens and 20’s will catch up with us in time. I used to eat a LOT of fast food due to stress in my early to mid-20’s. Now I’m in my mid-50’s and suffered a heart attack and had open heart surgery. Had I known what sugar, salt and stress would do to my health down the road and if I could have avoided this situation, I would have changed jobs at that time, eaten a vegetarian or Mediterranean diet and focused on exercise and sleep as priorities. Imagine, I could have avoided all the pain I’ve been through in the past 2 years!

I follow pretty much everything you suggest--like walking after eating (or at least doing body-weight squats or vibration platform to keep things moving and calf-raises to pump the liver, I believe it is. Also, I've started taking 1 Gymnema Sylvestre tablet and 2 AC Vinegar capsules with every meal (in addition to liquid AC before some meals and before bed (or after all meals). Combined with intermittent fasting (IF) I've better maintained my new 20-lbs lower weight and thanks to the Gymnema, I really don't crave sweets (dark chocolate, dates, fruit) as much. Mentally, I still want it occasionally and do indulge (gotta enjoy life), but it's not essential like I used to feel it was. Again, thanks so much!

I learned I had Type 2 when my feet started burning and didn't stop for a week. Went to the doc and A1C was 7.7. 13 years later, feet still burn every single day - in fact, pretty much all the time, but worse at night, say after 9pm. It's been horrible, but ice water helps a lot. Daily 2g of metformin and 4g of glimepiride helped keep A1C at 6.2 last blood test (despite my typical voracious eating).

    • @yellowbird5411
      @yellowbird5411 Год назад +5

Maybe voracious eating isn't so much the problem as much as eating too many carbs and sugars. If you can tweak your meals to increase protein and non-starchy vegetables, while cutting your carbs to 1/4 of what you would normally eat, you might learn to like it better. High protein usually curbs appetite, too.

Although individual results will vary from person to person, I think it is fairly safe to say that the vast majority of people would show a similar blood sugar response trend to these. My takeaway from this video is that a low carb, high protein meal at lunchtime, satiates hunger for longer without the horrible drowsy after effects that can ruin afternoon work performance. I also agree with the comment that a 30 minute walk after a meal lessens the blood sugar spike impact.

I’ll also take my AVC, and protein chips to eat instead of fries. I’ve even taken my homemade salad starter and homemade balsamic Vinaigrette dressing to get some veggies in before I eat anything high sugar or high carb. Little hacks like this have helped me so much but it definitely takes prep! I don’t always do this. I will also eat out on occasion without doing any of this 😊

Love your videos. Perhaps you could do some basic foods with the addition of alcohol, a glass of wine in particular. Does addition of alcohol moderate glucose spikes would be the test. Supposedly, the liver prioritizes alcohol metabolism over other substances. Does this translate into reduced spikes when high glycemic food is consumed with alcohol? Wine is popularly consumed with all sorts of foods. A test of french fries with red wine could be compared to your previos french fries results. White wine and chocolate could be interesting too. It is a very popular combination. A perfect video for Valentines day.

Great info. I'm not diabetic but always stay away from pop either or. As well maybe even the sauce on big Mac. I think I'll do that too. Because I believe the bun has sugar too Great experiment. I hope you started to feel better. Aldi don't forget to drink good filtered water too. All day!! Don't go over board too.on water.

These videos are very useful for diabetics, however it’s important to highlight that other factors interfere in this equation, like exercise, stress, other medication, etc. It’s like you referred: it also depends of the metabolism of each person.

I wear a Freestyle Libre 3. I don’t think this is one of the best CGMs around but at least it gives me some idea. However it is not as accurate as using a glucometer. This afternoon my CGM was 122 yet when I used my glucometer it was 111! That was a huge difference in the result!
Having said all that, how accurate is your CGM? I understand it is expensive mine costs me $38 every 14 days.
Using the glucometer (finger pricking) is still the best way for results, doing it a couple of hours after meal is not bad at all. 🤷‍♀️

At chipotle we get the bowl as well, but we do not get any rice, and we do not get any beans (we are keto) ….instead we ask for extra lettuce which they do. We get the steak, grilled vegetables, cheese, more lettuce, and avocado. It is a great keto meal….

I did a McD’s swap out very similar to reduce the carb load, but I did it with a double quarter pounder bc it has more protein and fat than carb. Similar goal you tried to do with the Big Mac special order. But I do Coke Zero and small fries. I know no fries is preferred but they do have one of my favorite fries out there. 😬

I spiked up to 279 two hours after white rice, steamed veggies, and salsa. A spike of 20 is nothing. Right now I am trying HCLF again to see if I can get my fasting numbers down and it seems to be working. I was 95 today and 94 yesterday. Normally I am up in the pre-diabetic range. BUT, I've not been checking my sugar level after eating. I'm hoping I'm not jumping up into the 200s but I might be. I should mention that eating more fat and protein hasn't been working...which is why I'm trying Dr. Neal Barnard's approach again.
