As a drummer who could listen in awe to Mr Peart (The Professor) from 1978 and my first Rush concert at Birmingham Odeon until now, this performance is absolutely superb. A massive thank you to see how this innovative piece of music was played. Well done sir, I salute you.
At 63, after quite a few crashes & injuries/surgeries in my life, i'm FINALLY getting back to the drums,...AFTER 30 YEARS! If i can get working again at half of Mr. Fuentes' talent & skill level, on this tough of a song, i will be a happy drummer. However, if your talking about technically, Rush is by far well above the other 4 and that is also not even close. Jimmy Page who is for sure in the top 5 greatest rock guitarists ever was well short of being technical. Some say he was pretty sloppy. Obviously Bohnam was not sloppy cause his technique was his own, and one of the greatest. Sterling, you’re a master of Neil Peart. I was 18 years old in 1980. I had a Ludwig five piece, a cheap set of high high hats, a semi decent 18” sizzle cymbal my parents got me for Christmas, a totally shitty, badly cracked ride, and a shitty 16” crash. Xanadu was the first tough Rush song I learned thoroughly, excusing the fact that I didn’t have a double bass, a glockenspiel, Wind chimes, that other little thing that makes chime sounds, the cowbells and wood blocks. I used the rims of the toms to simulate what i could, and the domes of the cymbals as well. It was pretty crappy sounding, but I learned as much as I could! You nailed it!
