Tales of the Destinies is Babymetal's tribute to Dream Theater and specifically to the song "Dance of Eternities". Mike Portnoy's son showed him TotD and he was very impressed and approved of it.

The crazy part of this performance is you learning the whole choreo , only to show it off one single night.

"The One" is the name of the BABYMETAL fandom, or more precisely, both the band and the fandom as a community. As such, the song by that name is an ode to the fans. The girls were touched by the international fans going out of their way learning Japanese etc. to be able to sing along with them, so they created this song in an English version to show their appreciation. Fitting the message, the song is much calmer than what you have just heard. But it actually shares a few melodies with Tales of the Destinies, as both were originally intended to be one giant epic piece. I recommend checking out the official music video, the visuals fit the message and are quite touching, in my opinion.

Thanks for coming back with more BM songs and this time with another special song from their 2nd album Metal Resistance, and this one is even more meaningful, this song was performed previous to last and ending the show.
Nice you found a clip safe to react, this one is a live edit from the same show but it ain't original clip. Anyway it has some clearly footage from Tokyo Dome 2016.
It took several years for KobaMetal (the producer and mastermind of this group) to create this progressive metal song along with "The One" which is the next song, he's a Dream Theater fan. This song was performed only one time at Tokyo Dome 2016 with 55K fans witnessing this special and one of a kind live concert, people from all over the world attended this two nights performing their entire catalogue by that time from 1st and 2nd album, only song they didn't performed was From Dusk Till Dawn.
There's a lot of crazy transitions and dope time signature changes. Is one of the hardest song they ever performed, even some troubles suddenly happened when performing this but fortunately they made it through like a real pro. I always love the reaction over that piano section with the cutesy dance moves.
The piano outro is no other than "The One" melody announcing the next song with this peaceful bridge. Both songs were originally part of the same song but it was split in two parts. The One is a song dedicated to all of us their fans, we're The One, and that should be the perfect follow up, although isn't a progressive metal song, more like hard rock ballad with progressive rock.
The Kami Band members this night are: Mikio Fujioka (R.I.P.) and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. Remember according to the lore all of them were send to help the girls with the metal sound. This time you're watching their regular costume back then wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint representing those spiritual entities.
Glad you loved this one, there's a reason for this performed only one time and that should stay that way for everyone who witnessed this special moment in BM career.
    See you next time🦊🤘🔥

Years later after this performance, Moametal revealed that this choreography was a living hell for her to learn. If I remember correctly, despite trying really hard, she couldn't learn it by counting beats so she practiced it a lot until that choreography became second nature to her. At that point, her body automatically reacted to the music, and that allowed Moa to perform it.
Another story is that the drummer (Hideki) was so exhausted by the end of this concert that he had to be carried off stage.
It goes to show how hard they all worked for this show to be possible. It was a dream come true for all of them, specially Su. Still is one of the greatest shows they've ever done, only topped by Legend S IMO.

Yeah Hideki was assisted from his kit due to severe leg cramps/exhaustion after IDZ. Which had a super extended outro as the final song of the show. During the call& response portion of the outro he was going full speed for over 7-8 mins.

Simply put( THE ONE ) is a collective term used by BABYMETAL. It includes not only BABYMETAL fans but also all music regardless the genre.

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 Год назад +31

Great reaction. Tokyo Dome 2016 (55,000 sell out crowd ... two nights running) was the only live performance of this song as the start of the finale for the first night ... the piano was the bridge into the big finale (it serves the same purpose on the album) and that was 'The ONE'.
The Kami Band did have to make some minor adjustments in order to be able to play it live, but it is pretty much bang on.
As you have been told 'The ONE' is what BABYMETAL named their fans (and they include not only the fans, but everybody involved in Team BABYMETAL as well).
As a song 'The ONE' is dedicated to the fans. They had noticed as they toured the world that people were learning Japanese to sing along with them and they were very touched. They decided they must reciprocate and learn a song completely in English as a mark of their appreciation and love for their fans ... 'The ONE' is that song and is effectively their love letter to the fans.
As well as the full English version (this is what they did at the Tokyo Dome - and it was an extended version being the finale for their biggest solo concert to date), the Japanese edition of the album had a half and half English-Japanese version (this is also on the official video) and they have an "unfinished" (acoustic) version with other variations too.
'Tales of the Destinies' and 'The ONE' began life as one song but they were separated quite early in the writing process. They are very different songs, but they share some themes.
They pay homage to Dream Theater (I think I read 'Tales of the Destinies pays homage in particular to 'Dance of Eternity').
The new album 'The Other One' is them transitioning between the original BABYMETAL and the 10 chapters of the Metal Resistance lore that took them from 2010 up to their hiatus in 2021 and their return as the "new" BABYMETAL and whatever the new lore might be.

    Tales Of The Destinies:-
A tribute to Legendary progressive rock band "Dream Theatre", Babymetal only performed this song once which is at the Tokyo Dome to a crowd of 55000 fans over two nights which total of 110000 fans. This song genre is Progressive Metal and different from "Dream Theatre" which focuses more on Rock. That night Su-Metal ear-in monitor malfunction just as the song is about to kick in, Su-Metal has to relied on The Kami Band tempo changes to be able to synchronise with The Kami Band and both Yuimetal & Moametal. Considered Babymetal most technical song and complex composition. As seasoned pros, Babymetal did a superb job that night. Those who love progressive music will definitely appreciate the technical aspects and precision of the Kami Band and Babymetal complicated choreography. The piano melody bridge will lead to the last song The One from their Metal Resistance Album. Progressive Metal at its best. Only done once live at the Tokyo Dome.

    Great reaction, thanks!
So glad you enjoyed this one, specially being in your alley. I admit not being so much into progressive metal and the first time I listened to "Tales of the Destinies" I was like WTF. And It wasn't until I watched this unique (literally) live performance that all made sense to me. And now, followed by "The ONE" is one of my favorite BABYMETAL moments.
"The ONE" apart from a song, refers to the sum of the fandom, BABYMETAL (the ladies themselves: Suzuka, Yui, Moa and now Momoko) and the so-called "Team BABYMETAL" formed by everyone involved with them: musicians, backup dancers, composers, choreographers, managers, technicians, roadies and all sort of staff. So, basically, WE are the ONE. 😁
There is no music video for "TOTD" and this was the only time they performed this one live.
I believe that "The ONE" (ideally from the same concert, Tokyo Dome 2016 Red Night) will be the obvious next song, being a sort of spinoff from "Tales of the Destinies".
    Until next time!

Nice reaction! I only know old music genres from about 50 years ago, so when I first heard this song, I thought it was an old jazz fusion cover because of the synchronized melody of the theme. Then I learned that their musical background allows them to freely play jazz, flamenco, classical, and various melodies and musical styles from around the world.
    So their music is free.

The One is Babymetal and the fans. Babymetal considers the fans as part of the band. Without the fans there would be no Babymetal, and without Babymetal there would be no Babymetal fans. Babymetal loves their fans very much and created the song The One as a love song to their fans.

Tales of the Destinies is almost one half of a prog song, as it and The One were originally going to be one song, until they split them apart early in production. The One is such a different song, it would have been quite a shift. The best version of The One on YT to react to is from Budokan 2021.

I would like to suggest that even though people like to say its not the Kami on the albums, there is very little information as to who is or is not on the album versions.
It could be kami members, just uncredited, or players we have never heard of.

I agree the dancing to prog is impressive, I have personally killed a few parties in my younger years by sneaking some Yes into the play list lol. Normally we recommend hearing the studio version first because there is so much going on it can be distracting having the stage show to take in as well and then when you see them play it live almost note for note it seems more impressive

"Not one of them has sounded the same."
Indeed. That is BABYMETAL. The songwriting is versatile.
Having said that, there are a few which sound similar to each other. But not many. For example, Uki Uki Midnight is similar to Doki Doki Morning. Not only in name.

    • @bury0777
      @bury0777 Год назад +5

Dream Theater was not involved, but it was a conscious effort to make this song in a Dream Theater style, which is a favourite band of Babymetal producer. Babymetal production team cooperated with several composers and musicians to compose the music. It was Road of Resistance where guitars were arranged and recorded by Dragonforce guitarists based on provided MIDI tracks. I also think that Kami band members were also playing on studio tracks and belief that they were not was a result of misunderstanding a statement saying that they don't compose the music, or a statement that a particular lineup you can encounter performing a show, doesn't have to be the same one that recorded studio tracks.
