This performance of these two songs are one of the highest moments of Babymetal's already legendary career. It's crazy to think that they only did this incredible performance the one time and that they nailed it so perfectly. Its a shame that we will probably never see it live again.

That was great, thank you so much, loved your reaction. Yes those lights were the neck braces the opening kamishibai referred to, they handed out 55,000 to all the people there that night - and another 55,000 (but with red LEDs) the next night.
You did well to be so patient and to wait to watch this - definitely the right decision as it impacted you so much more doing it this way.
Mike Portnoy also described 'Tales of the Destinies' as "Full on Prog-Metal". 'The One' is their love letter to the fans of course. "We are The One, together we're the only One...."
I think the "to be continued" was referring to Black Night to follow the next day - another sold out concert, a completely different set list, no song was repeated. They played their entire catalogue from the two albums apart from 'From Dusk Till Dawn' (although I'm told that was played over the speakers as people were leaving).

    • @GlassMoonGaming
      @GlassMoonGaming  Год назад +8

Awesome! It's good to see Portnoy describe it as that! That's so amazing they did their entire first 2 albums. That's just nuts!

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。[For The One] (1) Saki, an excellent shredding guitarist of Nemophila and a big BM fan, told in an interview "The One is so difficult that it is not a kind of song humans should play. It is, however, very cool and decently cute" [source: Japanese magazine Headbang vol.24 page 120] (2) Some people said this song was a little bit too repetitive. But in their live performance you feel as if the length of this song were only 30 seconds and want to listen to it forever. I witnessed it total 10 times at venues. Whenever they performed this song, I saw divine beauty and heard angelic voices. Su's current matured and richer voice gives you different feeling, I guess. To me, this 2016 version sounds like a call to their fans and 2021 version sounds like embracing them all.

    • @otobokegaijin6218
      @otobokegaijin6218 Год назад +18

Saki was talking about the intro riff of "The One". Koba has said that riff is difficult to play in standard tuning. Mikio said it's more difficult to play in the slower tempo of "The One" than the up-tempo of "Destinies". If I recall correctly (I don't have it now) in ヘドバン #24 Saki is discussing BM with the jazz pianist Hitomi Nishiyama. I saw Saki perform twice with Nishiyama's jazz trio in 2019.
Also in 2019, on June 28, I saw BM's "The Sun Also Rises" at Yokohama Arena, and I was quite sure I saw Saki and Nishiyama there. The next day, Saki's band Mary's Blood performed at Shin Yokohama New Side Beach and I saw that show too. I asked Saki if she was at BM's concert the day before and she confirmed "Yes!"
I know some Japanese BM fans have said that only Mikio can properly play that riff. Some have been critical of Isao's playing of the riff at Budokan in 2021 and Leda's at "Legend - Metal Galaxy" in 2020, although I was at Makuhari Messe for LMG the first day and it sounded fine to me. As for "10 Budokan", perhaps, as some Japanese fans suggested, the riff mistakes were fixed in post-production.

Something you'll notice on subsequent listens is that the two songs are so integrated that Tales of the Destinies starts off with that main repeated guitar riff of The One. They were originally written as a single song.

Really love the way you're ending this chapter with another special set of two songs from their 2nd album Metal Resistance, and this one is even more special just like you've been told. Metal Galaxy is coming for you and with that album a whole different BM era.
It took several years for KobaMetal (the producer and mastermind of this group) to create this progressive metal song along with "The One" which is the next song, he's a Dream Theater fan just like you. This song was performed only one time at Tokyo Dome 2016 with 55K fans witnessing this special and one of a kind live concert, people from all over the world attended this two nights performing their entire catalogue by that time from 1st and 2nd album, only song they didn't performed was From Dusk Till Dawn.
There's a lot of crazy transitions and dope time signature changes. Is one of the hardest song they ever performed, even some troubles suddenly happened when performing this but fortunately they made it through like a pro they already were. Is always fun to watch the reaction over that piano section with the kawaii dance moves.
There's a reason for this performed only one time and for me that should stay that way for everyone who witnessed this special moment in BM career.
The piano outro is no other than "The One" melody announcing the next song with this peaceful bridge. An emotional and beautiful song which follow with a little bit of metal but more like a progressive rock ballad, "The One" is a song that is dedicated to all of us their fans so get ready your neckbrace to light up your path to El Dorado, the girls are ready as you can see they wearing black and gold battle dress.
This song is another BM anthem showing how much love they have for us. They knew many BM fans wanted to know more and more about them and even learning the Japanese language just for that purpose. So the girls took this challenge in return for so much love doing an entire song with English lyrics that was released internationally, and there's also another half Japanese/English lyrics version for local Japanese market, you can hear and watch that version in the official MV with beautiful shots from Yokohama Arena 2015, that's another mind-blowing performance you don't want to miss, only thing is it doesn't have live audio.
And yea, to be continued means next Black Night.
And after finishing your journey i also recommend "The One - Stairway To Living Legend" which is a pure ballad (similar to Unfinished Version, although isn't called like that) and a way to thank everyone right before going into hiatus sealing the Metal Resistance chapter.
Thanks for sharing this GMG and wait for more wild rollercoaster of emotions with these girls and their astounding live shows.

Congratulations Brian, this is perhaps the best Double Shot Babymetal reaction I have seen on RUclips. I hope it stays up, so that for years to come, people can enjoy it the way these songs should be heard, together.
I can only think of one other multi-track Babymetal reaction that I have enjoyed as much and that was when Cyneward reacted to the unofficial 'Trilogy of Death', together in one video. That video put a lot of context to the songs as well.
    Well done, man.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。[For TOTD] When I saw this TOTD video for the first time, I thought people who had planned it and then realized it were insane (including choreographer Mikiko). The performance was perfect and stunning. In a recent interview, however, Su-Metal replied : "TOTD was very difficult, especially it has no rhythm, of course, it does but looks no ..... About 10 second after its start, I lost correct tune and it continued for the 1st verse, I regretted it ..... I am still regretful for it so I have a intention to retry it someday [excerpt from : Magazine "Bessatsu KADOKAWA" Oct.13, 2020 issue, Page 87]" Although I believe no one thought she was singing out of tune or in inaccurate pitch, the intricacy of this song made even our Metal Queen feel frustrated. Many people looked forward to the "someday" during the last year's 10 BABYMETAL Budokan concerts but it did not come true. Someday may come or may not. Only the Fox God knows. One more thing. After watching your video, I reconfirmed the reason why the band in BABYMETAL's back has been called "Kami (= God)"

Dream Theater had been my favourite band for more than two decades, until three tiny girls pushed them off their throne. TotD is 100% Dream Theater, the ragtime (?) interlude and the piano outro could totally be from Rudess.
If you take a closer look at that moment just before you stopped to marvel at the scene with Su standing before the crowd with their lit up neck braces, you can actually see her jaw drop from the sight (25:36).

    Excellent reaction, thanks!
And yes, I believe this is he proper way to react to this song(s). I'm so happy for you to have experienced them like this. And I loved the way you enjoyed that experience. This is one of the most satisfying things about being a kitsune and a commenter here in YT.
I admit not being so much into prog metal so I was like WTF the first time I listened to "TOTD". It took me a while to get used to it and it wasn't really until I watched this live performance that all finally made sense to me. Now, followed by "The ONE" (just like you experienced it here), it's one of my favorite BABYMETAL moments and I like to revisit it frequently.
Finally, there is a cool moment during "The ONE" when Su-metal saw the all the neckbraces of the audience lit for the first time. She puts an expression of amazement, turning into Su-chan for a little moment, right before going back to full metal mode. Little details matter!
    Until next time!

Well. It was! IIRC this is the radio communication from Neil Armstrong right before the countdown ended to start the Atlas V rocket with Apollo 11 on board.
Regarding the clear Dream Theater references: Did you notice they even borrowed some sounds from the album "The Astonishing" for the intro (this intro with the laser show, which isn't on the album btw.) of "Tales of the Destinies"?

Babymetal only performed this song once which is at the Tokyo Dome to a crowd of 55000 fans over two nights which total of 110000 fans. This is Progressive Metal different from Dream Theatre which focuses more on Rock. Su-Metal ear-in monitor malfunction just as the song is about to play. Su-Metal has to relied on The Kami Band tempo changes to be able to synchronise with The Kami Band. As pros, Babymetal did a superb job that night. Those who love progressive music will appreciate the technical aspects and precision of the Kami Band and Babymetal complicated choreography. The piano melody bridge will lead to the last song The One from their Metal Resistance Album. Put Your Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬.

As a longtime Dream Theater fan, I vividly remember when this came out in 2016, the same year as The Astonishing and thinking to myself: "Huh. Never would have pegged Babymetal putting out better prog than Dream Theater did this year."
One little note on the light up neck braces: They're a reference / tribute to Yoshiki, the founder of X Japan, the Visual Kei band that started at all. Incidentally, you may enjoy their 20+ minute epic, "Art of Life".

The Visual Kei/Metal band SEIKIMA II was a huge influence on Koba.
That's where the "EL DO RA DO" stuff in the lore comes from.
It was a song on their Akuma Nativity "Songs of the Sword" album.
They went through a few different versions of the choreography for 'Tales of the Destinies' in the run up to this Tokyo Dome concert.
At this point Moa isn't even sure which version they ended up performing.
BABYMETAL themselves are the Destinies, and of course THE ONE is their name for BABYMETAL fans.
At the 'LEGEND S - BAPTISM XX' concert, the fourth kamishibai (picture story narration) says:
    "Ascending into the heavens
The MESSIAH reincarnated into a NEW GODDESS
And used her singing ability to express all of the people's desires
And unleashed them into the night skies.
The MESSIAH's song turned into a myriad of stars
And the small shining lights fell upon the people
These turned out to be the light of hope the people had last lost."

excellent content Glass Moon-Metal, congratulations on your completion of the 2nd album, now before you get started on MG, do you want to proceed in the story because they debuted "In The Name Of" at Legend S in 2017 and in 2018," ITNO" ","Distortion" "Elevator Girl ", "Kagerou" and "Starlight", were being played live long before the MG release. 4 of the 5 are darkside songs located on the 2nd half of the album or for the Japanese version 2 extra songs were added making a perfect double album disc one light force, disc two dark force. or if you feel so inclined, "Legend Metal Galaxy" live Blue-Ray, does the double album pretty much in order of the album with a few familiar songs from the past thrown in.

@@GlassMoonGaming ok but let me tell you that "Starlight " does double duty, for example, the official MV is the conclusion of "Distortion " MV, but Distortion is not really a part of the trilogy of lights, which starts with "Starlight " the Darkside tour was started with "In the Name of " and Distortion, just as the tragedies were happening, anywhere I know it's confusing, just do what you want, but make sure you include the two bonus songs from the Japanese release as well as both versions of "Elevator Girl" lol

Nice reaction. Two in one. Gutsy. Many fans hoped they would do Tales of the Destinies for the 10 years of Babymetal shows. Sadly, it didn't happen. Su has mentioned that she wanted to try to do the song again live. And Moa talked about trying the dance routine. which only fueled the fire for them doing it again. They did do the One again for multiple shows. Including the 10 years of Babymetal shows. When your done with the Metal galaxy album remember this song. As they do another version of it to announce the break they currently are ending. Has a great video where those neck brace lights come into play again. Very moving music video.

As Metal Galaxy played with the concept of Light and Dark, it might be worth it to do it in order as the first half is mostly light and the second half is dark, finishing with the Trilogy of Lights, which Koba said is representative of the grieving process. If you decide not to do it in order, then I recommend starting with "In The Name Of" (which kicks off the dark side of the album) from either "Legend S - Apocalypse XX" (preferred IMO) or "10 Babymetal Budukan".

As great as this these two songs are, it's kind of sad that this is the only time that TotD has been performed. It's such a great song, probably in my top five for Babymetal if I were to make a list, and the Kami Band is clearly up for it. Also, it's amusing to me that they start off with the NASA transmissions involving Neil Armstrong and end this video draped in cloaks that would probably let the girls survive atmospheric reentry. So much sweat! I'm wanting to give the girls some ringer's lactate!

A great example of Babymetal's emotional manipulation and stage craft. They really do push beyond the normal boundaries of a rock concert and you end up with a moving theatrical experience.
TOTD is my favourite BM song and I consider it to be one of three prog songs that BM has, the other two being "The One" and "Rondo of Nightmare". I bought the Tokyo Dome DVD just for this and "The One". The rest of the concert is awesome, but this is the only live performance of TOTD and it's the height of Kobametal's art/artifice/showing off/seeing what he can get away with etc. It's very obviously a homage to Dream Theater, "The Dance of Eternity", even the two titles echo one another. This could have been a complete disaster but Babymetal bring their unique singing and dancing talents to the song and the Kami Band are fantastic...as they always are. To so obviously reference another awesome piece of music and yet still be different and brilliant on its own takes a lot of skill...and either guts or hubris. I love the way the ending resolves from the prog metal madness into a beautifully lyrical piano solo and the Charlies Angels ending is cute.
Then we go into The One with the same theme treated in a more straight ahead way and the emotion cranked up to 11 as BM give the gift of this closing song to their fans in appreciation of their support. It says a lot that Su, Moa and Yui can maintain such private lives and still have such a connection with the fans. I suppose that comes down to the history many of them have with their characters going back to Sakura Gakuin and the skill Kobametal has in crafting the lore and using the songs to flesh that out emotionally. I really think of Babymetal as Kobametal's massive ten year art project.

    • @Icipher353

I think that the secret to Su, Yui, & Moa's connection with the fans is that they give everything they have to the fans in every performance; no matter how big or how small the venue, they never give less than 110% and the fans know and appreciate that.

Awesome reaction (again). 🙂 Yeah, this is peak BABYMETAL I'd say - both songs are good on the album but seeing this incedible live performance (a choreography to TOTD, are you kidding me??) with this insane stage setup always hits me in the feels, no matter how often I'll watch it, I can't help tearing up. It's just beautiful beyond words. Very good observations with the Metal Galaxy - maybe they already had it planned out when they did this show. Unfortunately Yui's departure and Mikio's death stopped them for a while/derailed the original plans (I assume).
