It's interesting that this is exactly my relationship with my phone right now. I take it out, double-click the power button (to enter camera mode), snap a photo and put it away without reviewing it. I just got rid of all the apps that distracted me and turned off most of the notifications and all sounds. Now it's just a really good camera and a toolkit with useful apps.

I have had one of these cameras (in grey though, not that awesome green) and while "I" do not have a use for it, I primarily got it for my kids to use. They go to camp where there are no cell phones allowed, but they can bring a camera. Also this camera is incredibly rugged so I dont fear it being damaged. The cost of the camera was enough that if it does get lost, I'm not out that much.

This was a really cool video! Love how amazing the quality of your video is, it’s more gorgeous than simply seeing irl. The juxtaposition between your video quality and the quality of the canon is a little funny. Canon makes a few cameras which seem like great ideas, but the execution just isn’t there. The smallness and toughness of this make sense, but it just doesn’t seem worth the bother. Or something like the Powershot Zoom, which is essentially a digital monocular and and camera, provides a clever form factor, but the battery was garbage, it lacked WR so it wasn’t a go-anywhere pocket telephoto, and there wasn’t a way to force it to high shutter speeds for photographing things that were swiftly moving.

Interesting! Kind of similar concept, though I wish it wasn't a round formfactor. The bluetooth link to the printer is a nice touch.

    FOOD FOR THOUGHT CANON:
What about this exact form factor but a slider (like a laptop webcam privacy slider) that lets you pick the VIEWER you use, and one has a wide angle lens with a similar fish-eye viewer, and on the other side it's a like 2x zoom or 3x zoom lens with similar viewer. That way it's still inexpensive, there's still no screen, and it's more univers-atile.

  • @etherealicer

I understand... I love the Canon PowerShot ZOOM. For me, the perfect form factor to easily take zoom images. It is in theory easier to use than a monocle (due to image stabilization), but the overall execution is terrible.

Good video. It could be possible someone could recreate this camera with a Raspberry PI Zero 2 W and the RP Camera Module 3 (which has a version with no IR cut filter for color IR images). The image quality would be better, cost less, everything would be open source, and it would be infinitely hackable.

I think I'm the only one who LOVED the Holga Digital. It got HORRIBLE reviews. I got it on clearance for like $20 in 2017 or so. I loved the lack of screen and the simplicity. Sometimes the photos were a vibe. I'm no photographer so I am sure they are "bad" even for lofi and my skill level (or lack thereof) but I liked that 1/300 pictures that looked cool. I should dig that thing out.

When these were released I was watching the market trends And bought a handful knowing the prices were going to spike. When they did I either gave them away to friends or sold a few.
Less than $50 for mine has given me a fun,, and portable camera just to have for those *snapshots*.
