We had real problem when we move in found they had covered the drains up cannot find the screws on the deck so had to rip it up and now got to make a frame work. We also have rotten decking on the other side of the house been at all afternoon only got 3 boards up as cannot find the screw heads my Husband is 76 so hard work we got to do it ourselves as we spent all our funds on refurbishing the house we have run into all sorts of problems that we have found and we could not leave and was not pick up on survey.

Why do you use cortex screws and spacers to fastened your decking?
Verses using grooved boards with hidden fasteners. The hidden fasteners not only hold down the decking, they are also your spacers. Which I always pop a chalk line every few boards, cause the do get off.
The only time I use cortex screws is around the perimeter, stairs, or anywhere I use a solid board, or can't get a hidden fastener.
I always use the Tiger Claw. Saves time

Dr.Decks, I have 2 questions. 1) Can you show a way to keep leaves from entering the deck gap and falling into the cavities below. Overtime I see a problem with these low level decking. 2) do you use Cortex hidden fasteners on fascia boards. They're less than 1/2in thick. Thanks. I learned so much from you and ready to build my decks with Azek vintage collection deck boards.
Why would the piece of lumber under the access potentially rot but not the rest of the lumber for the entire deck?
How do you do the the opening for a sewer ..?

Hi drdecks why would someone want all cortex and not hidden fasteners on that deck. Was is cosmetic or purpose?
