      I'm telling you. You are a master of your trade. Excellent, Excellent work. Looks great. Whew, megabucks though to build. It's worth it because it's built to last. I see that for sure. Very sturdy, well supported, great choice of wood, just all around good building quality just like you do other projects. You treat the animals great, too. Nice person you are as well. Such a workaholic, too. Persistent and accurate. I'm so impressed.

    The scope of your talent is massive....excellent framer, great finish craftsmanship, and the perfect eye for solid and good looking construction....all without blueprints, drawings, sketches, or doodles. You probably even have a home-made jig for building sandwiches! This is a very fine project....I take my hat off to you.....give the dogs a big hug for me. Best wishes and enjoy the holidays!

    Just my opinion but I would have hinged the trap door at the house edge so when open it would block someone from walking out of the house and falling into the "pit of despair." Nice job.

    • @SalvageWorkshop
      @SalvageWorkshop  4 года назад +23

      The home owner wanted the ability to lower something from inside the house down into the basement, plus I wouldn't have wanted to support such a heavy door against the french doors on the house... The have lived here for 10 years and only used the previous cover like 1 or 2 times, so they weren't worried about someone falling in. It's defiantly a good thought though, that would be BAD! I truly appreciate you watching & commenting! Lots more to come!

    • @BulletproofPastor
      @BulletproofPastor 4 года назад +15

      @@SalvageWorkshop Good answer. Sometimes there are good reasons for otherwise "bad" ideas. When you have a need to lift and limit travel of a heavy door/hatch I've found gas filled lifting pistons rated from 20# to 120# each. They can take a lot of load out of a heavy job. Thanks for your reply and great video of a good job.

    • @SalvageWorkshop
      @SalvageWorkshop  4 года назад +9

      @@BulletproofPastor I totally agree! I am already looking into electric actuators that we can use to lift the door with the push of a button! It's a great idea! The door is REALLY heavy, so it might take like 3-4 or the large ones to make it work!

    • @BulletproofPastor
      @BulletproofPastor 4 года назад +4

      @@SalvageWorkshop I have some gas piston actuators that were originally 120# lift but quickly deteriorated to about 80# max. These are often used to lift beds in an RV for storage but appear to live a short effective life. I hope your electric actuators prove more robust.

    • @danielnemec4767
      @danielnemec4767 4 года назад +2

      @@SalvageWorkshop I've done something similar using the gas lift from a car bonnet. A really cheap, but effective solution to take the weight off the trap door.

    Great job on the deck. Very robust framing. I know the composite decking is expensive but it looks good and will last forever. 👍
