That was awesome. Really enjoyed to fast motion you added. Made me laugh a few times.
I loved this! You left no stone unturned, and from a fellow woodworkers perspective, you nailed ( or screwed,in this case , it! Great job! This helps me plan for the rebuilding of our new deck, next spring. Our old deck was redwood, 25 years old, and had to go. You inspired me!
Very professional work. Attention to detail and finish-off work is excellent.
I'm telling you. You are a master of your trade. Excellent, Excellent work. Looks great. Whew, megabucks though to build. It's worth it because it's built to last. I see that for sure. Very sturdy, well supported, great choice of wood, just all around good building quality just like you do other projects. You treat the animals great, too. Nice person you are as well. Such a workaholic, too. Persistent and accurate. I'm so impressed.
Awesome job.
No one could have done a more professional job than you did.
I hope your customer appreciated how good a job you did and gives you recommendations to their friends and family.
The guys on This Old House would applaud your work as well as your work ethics.
The scope of your talent is massive....excellent framer, great finish craftsmanship, and the perfect eye for solid and good looking construction....all without blueprints, drawings, sketches, or doodles. You probably even have a home-made jig for building sandwiches! This is a very fine project....I take my hat off to you.....give the dogs a big hug for me. Best wishes and enjoy the holidays!
I don't know about that, I'm just a guy that only knows enough to be dangerous! Jigs make things faster and more accurate, ESPECIALLY when working alone! I am glad you enjoyed the project! I truly appreciate you watching & commenting! Enjoy the holidays as well!
Just my opinion but I would have hinged the trap door at the house edge so when open it would block someone from walking out of the house and falling into the "pit of despair." Nice job.
The home owner wanted the ability to lower something from inside the house down into the basement, plus I wouldn't have wanted to support such a heavy door against the french doors on the house... The have lived here for 10 years and only used the previous cover like 1 or 2 times, so they weren't worried about someone falling in. It's defiantly a good thought though, that would be BAD! I truly appreciate you watching & commenting! Lots more to come!
@@SalvageWorkshop Good answer. Sometimes there are good reasons for otherwise "bad" ideas. When you have a need to lift and limit travel of a heavy door/hatch I've found gas filled lifting pistons rated from 20# to 120# each. They can take a lot of load out of a heavy job. Thanks for your reply and great video of a good job.
@@BulletproofPastor I totally agree! I am already looking into electric actuators that we can use to lift the door with the push of a button! It's a great idea! The door is REALLY heavy, so it might take like 3-4 or the large ones to make it work!
@@SalvageWorkshop I have some gas piston actuators that were originally 120# lift but quickly deteriorated to about 80# max. These are often used to lift beds in an RV for storage but appear to live a short effective life. I hope your electric actuators prove more robust.
@@SalvageWorkshop I've done something similar using the gas lift from a car bonnet. A really cheap, but effective solution to take the weight off the trap door.
My dad was very handy. I can remember all the decks that we built together for friends and family. Very good memories. I'm 52 now and some of those decks are still around from 35 years ago.
Excellent use of jigs/templates/story boards! Great attention to detail on this job!!
Thank you Steve! Using jigs makes things much faster and more accurate! I do enjoy the details, no matter what project I am working on! I truly appreciate you watching & commenting! Lots more to come!
I only watched this 3rd part and watched it to the end, amazed that so many details are involved and everything fitted to perfection was a joy to see. Now I'll watch the other parts. Great job!
I really enjoyed watching this series (?). Seeing the whole process really brings home the time and expertise that goes into such a build. Hope to see more of these types of build on your channel. 💙
Thank you my friend! I really only know enough to be dangerous, but as I always say "MAN am I DANGEROUS!" I truly appreciate you watching & commenting! I have LOTS more planned!
First-rate skills Salvage...you are a 'wood savage'. Your attention to detail and finishing skills are first-class.
16:54 My dad's been a carpenter my whole life, I've been doing carpentry (professionally) for 5 years. Never once thought to use a whole deck board as the parallel piece of border, absolutely brilliant
What a gorgeous deck. Simple, yet elegant and with that awesome trap door. It gave me an idea on how to repair the one we have! Thank you!!!
Spacing tool - very smart and efficient. Professional ! Nice job !
Wow Salvage Workshop, I’m sitting here in amazement watching you work. It brought back so many memories. My late father and my brothers were all carpenters/cabinet makers. I especially remember my dad using the flat pencil and putting it behind his ear. Thanks so much for the video. 👏👏
This is beautiful and will be a blessing to use for years to come!
The best deck install have yet seen on RUclips. (or, anywhere actually, ALL three parts !)
I love your working stills and devotion to details.
Excellent precision job, lot of techniques and materials I haven't seen before, that oscillating tool works great on the composite.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you my friend! I always try to show as many techniques as I can in my videos! Thank for watching & commenting, I truly appreciate it!
Beautiful build series... I learned a lot watching it... Thank you for posting, and for the huge amount of time (on top of doing the job) that it must have taken to put together such a thorough how-I-did-it-so-you-can-too video. Yes, I NEED one of those trap doors...!
Very nice professional job with unique solutions on the trap door and the rolling gates.
I like the rolling gate , very clever idea
Sweet! Looks great and the composite is a nice touch. Never would have thought that I would watch a deck being built on RUclips... your channel changed that. I was excited to watch and loved the transformation!

@@SalvageWorkshop Really I expected each episode like new 'StarWar'. Because I could not imagine full picture. What should be constructed instead old deck. Only at the end when you compared 'before' and 'after' everything became clear. Secret trapdoor is fantastic.
