Not going to lie, it's very that I'll actually sit through an entire video for something like this, but between your honesty, and the fact that you go the extra mile to do the little things to ensure a clean, finished product, it was enjoyable to watch you work and do things properly. Thanks for sharing some of your little world on the water...I hope you get years of enjoyment out of it!
I was yellin' at the screen for you to not forget that screw at 4:12 !! FYI, I'm still unable to get you on Instagram with my IntlFirearmSfty name - but I have you under my other name ?? So that's very odd I still have ya on Patreon anyways lemme know if you know what's up good deck work - Alecs
Great job on your projects overall. A few friendly tips on the deck staining (meant in the spirit of being helpful): move everything off the deck (including spray rig); add a screw on 3' extension to the gun (save your back) ; Lower your pressure; either mask the siding (12"-18" paper and masking gun), or use a shield when close to siding; use an extension pole and med.nap roller to back roll stain into decking (again, save your back and way quicker); spray out a large area (5'x5' or more), then back roll (just rest roller with ext.pole in an empty 5 gal. bucket while spraying); save your knees and get a good pair of knee pads when you have to crawl around. / Keep up the good work!
Gosh, I wish I could be your helper when you do your projects....I would learn so much....and I do learn from your videos...but, I always enjoy another person's thought process. The deck is beautiful...another wonderful video from you❤❤
The deck looks brand new. It looks so much better with the step, it looks bigger also. That's such a beautiful view, I would be out there as much as possible.
Always a good saturday when there's a welcome to the woods vid to watch! Have to admit watching that lag bolt going in without a washer was quite traumatic. 🤪 Love your videos and I recommend them to other tubers starting their diy channels. Its been a real Pleasure watching you get better and better at ever more difficult projects over the years. Keep them coming!
First off, great job. The repairs came out nice and the finish looks great. That Wagner sprayer seems to be the right choice for a project like that. It is concerning though that the deck was in such rough shape. I know those are close to the ground, but proper french draining underneath and adding some lattice or fenched vent holes in the correct spots in the deck skirt should also the deck board slats to do what they do best, allow the underside of the deck to stay dry. Anyway, again, great fixes! Thanks for sharing.
You can build my deck any time. As always fabulous job. Youve been doing this a while now and have tried and learned so much. Ive been watching for years and i say go with your gut at this point on form function and safety
You did a fantastic job! Way to save money and still make it look great.....Just an FYI wear ear protection even if it's just one cut.....And was shocked you didn't apply deck flashing tape to your stair addition
Latest news I heard is it does not matter if the grain is inverted. Best advice I have heard is use good fasteners and it should be good. The theory is still controversial, bu my deck is about 30 years old, and the boards still work. My thought is just tightening them good and make sure the water drains off. Good Work and good luck.
Great job , your growing skills and hard work are paying dividends . The orientation of the boards is not a problem as long as they are dry when installed and properly fastened. Deck rot is largely due to prolonged contact with wet soil , gravel , drainage , ventilation and a good UV resistant deck coating will prolong the integrity of the timber.
@@larryroyovitz7829hey man, I tried that handle already. But it was for your daughter’s account. You must have it confused in your search history. Any other OnlyFans handle ideas? Thanks in advance.
I replaced some stairs to a front porch with pressure treated lumber and, like you, I put the best looking face up. Many years later the boards with the 'cupping' up have started to pool water in them and the stain we put on them is either flaking off or the boards are growing algae. So, you'll have to see if this causes maintenance issues for you down the road. It certainly has for me.
I renewed my old deck several years ago. I was able to flip most of my old boards over because the bottoms still looked great. Which means they will cup and hold some water cutting some life from them. The way I look at it they were free. Keep up with staining them regularly and they should last quite a long while.
Great ! For the bolts to remove, intead of breaking the wood or trying to block the head like you did, did you try to use a second plyer to block the remaining pretty long end of the bolt like you did at the end with a plyer close to the head of the bolt ?
Fantastic Results! Fyi, I wear a dust mask when I cut PT lumber. I got a nose bleed years ago when I was building a deck out of PT for my dad. Now I always wear a dust mask when cutting PT lumber, and also when cutting untreated wood. My nose thanks me. Thanks for posting the video.
Wow! What a difference it makes removing that old rail! It really opens up the deck allowing for a beautiful view of the lake. Our deck is 15 years old and I have deck boards cupped up and down. While building the deck I had no Idea about cupping so I just did like you did and put them pretty side up. My boards are treated and I have no rot at all. Not bad considering here in south Louisiana we average almost 60 inches of rain a year so I wouldnt worry about it. Maybe just be careful if water freezes on the cupped up boards in Winter. Thats not an issue here the only ice we see here is in our adult beverages! lol I love the long window above the deck door did you install it? If you did is it in one of the videos? Awesome job! 🍻
I've never paid much attention to crowning deck boards and have always gone with best-looking side up. IF I crown them I like the crown up. I find that when the crown is down they can cup and hold water, crown down and they'll "dome" which lets water run off better.
When I rented that type of sander years ago, the called it a "Flat Plate Sander". Whether that was the rental companies term or a term for that style, I have no idea. The cup of the boards matters but shouldn't be an issue as long as you keep up the finish and teh wood doesn't have a chance to absorb moisture.
yes cupping will become an issue eventually depending on weather and sun and you could have sealed the 2x12 that went underground at the brick location
Hint: if you want to save a few dollars on joist tape try using Gorilla tape instead. It performs the same function and is equally adhesive and it costs less. One of the reasons you wait a year before staining treated lumber is that the over-treated surface of the wood will release some of the treatment and the more natural look of the wood will appear. It’s still protected but at this point the natural grain of the wood will be more visible. This is the right time to stain.
The up-cupping : not a huge deal. You my well never notice it. As for waiting to stain PT wood - I’d ask a couple professional deck builders on that. I see your using a moisture meter, but I’m not sure that will tell you the entire story of what you need to know for staining.
Redwood? Don’t you mean western red cedar? I can’t imagine anyone would pay for actual redwood in the early 1990’s. I’d still re-use the red cedar, as that’s valuable (and expensive). Good on you for yet another big project.

The timing of this is stellar. I’m planning my own step for my deck. The ground has sunk over the years and my knees can’t take the huge drop anymore.

Great job. I really like how you explain why you do a step .
that's awesome I love that you removed the railing it's not nessisary, and it took from the view
Great job, finished deck looks good! I probably would have demolished it and started over.

With the question on cupping, I usually will hit it with some liquid nail before screwing it down.
