@@MrMattMagooMhm, using the Oculus Debug Tool you can find in the files, with the Quest 2 I’ve always found raising the bitrate to at least 300 Mbps and disabling dynamic bitrate to look quite a bit better than default
Yeah the debug tool is great to squeeze more performance. Tip for sim racers. I reduce the vertical plane of view (forget what it’s actually called) to 0.6 when sim racing and I get about a 30-40% dump in GPU performance. It replicates a similar view if you where wearing a helmet, which you would be anyway. With that extra performance on hand you can increase fidelity in game. Of course if you prefer to look at your legs or the sky whilst racing that wouldn’t be for you 😊
I was looking for an all-purpose VR headset that would not cost me too much and would allow for a great PC VR experience. I think you sealed the deal on me getting the Quest 3.

Its so exciting to see the positivity and buzz around this headset compared the pro launch. I really think Meta just need to focus on mainstream value headsets for now and this one is such a significant upgrade. I'm also glad to see they went with the pancake lenses which is something Sony really should have done for the PSVR2.
I got a Quest 3, came from pico 4. At first I wanted to keep my Pico 4 since the resolution was better, but after tested my friends Quest 3 I was blown away by the mixed reality capabilities and just how the UI is better and the amout of games. Also I could have full body tracking for my PC gaming for exemple Assetto Corsa or VRchat, I got the Quest 3 yesterday and Im still getting amazed
Edit- Keep your eyes open for a Black Friday deal if interested in the Reverb G2V2. Last year they were $300 (half off) for the whole weekend & Cyber Monday. Definitely worth waiting to see at this point. Does anyone know how the Quest 3 runs on mere mortal/ last gen hardware? I don't have a 4090, "just" a 3080 so no 40 series AV1 for me... I guess it's still an upgrade to the Quest 2, but I'm thinking a native PCVR HMD pulls a little bit ahead for the time being.
I’ve only got a 3060ti and yep everything looks crisper in the Q3 compared to my Q2 and FOV better. I’d say there’s a 30-40% improvement in clarity. What’s also noticeable is that there’s less compression artifacts if any. I have only tested with link cable at 400mbs but will have to try as Ben did with wireless. I read somewhere that the image produced for pancake lenses requires less processing power than fresnel so could be that. Contrast and colours are still the limiting factors compared to PSVR2, though.
@@dtz1000 Interesting, I haven't seen a review about it yet, I'm sure they will come flooding in, but the anecdotal evidence so far (like first impressions) have all been positive claiming very little compression with higher frame rates, but then again how much of that is due to owning a 4090 in the first place?

Best VR game Is Gran Turismo 7 and good wheel (PS5, psvr2 )Have PC and Quest 3. Quest 3 got very sharp screen. Watching RUclips in 4k is very close to 4k tv. Amazing device, but native quest games looks like on Ps2
Have a PSVR2, I do like it for its OLED lenses and eye tracking but the sweet spot is very small and takes alot adjustment to get it just right. Just got a Quest 3 and with its pancake lens the sweet spot is the whole lens with no distortion, the clarity is amazing no matter how crooked I put my headset on!
@@hb-hr1nhMy biggest issue with Psvr2. Even when you set them perfectly. You play a bit, they slide down 2 millimeters and it looks blurry with some color distortion.
I love my racing sims in VR and play GT7 on PSVR2. I’d say colours are better but the image clarity is no way as sharp as PCVR with Q3 in say AMS2, AC, for example. GT7/PSVR2 clarity is pretty awful for far off objects like the castle on the Nordschleife being a blurry mess. In AMS2 it’s like 3 or 4 times the definition.
I was on the fence about it for PCVR. I got it for MR but was really surprised how good it is for PCVR. If you want a couple other pretty games on PCVR, Green Hell VR and Deep States are both beautiful.
Been using the Q3 since last night and still haven't managed to do everything I want. It's a big upgrade in many ways from the Q2. The hand operation without the controllers is crazy. Can't get over that. The colours are better on PC gaming than anything else. Maybe it's Virtual Desktop doing that. Really nice pop and the contrast is good enough. I never play at max brightness. Approx 50 percent so black levels are very acceptable. Better than the Q2. The Q2 added brightness levels in an update but I never liked what it did. It took the vibrancy with it. Not on the Q3. The lenses are the best I have ever seen. So clear. The resolution is amazing. I do have a 4090 so it's set it up for maximum quality. 120 Hz on some games. HL Alyx, insane. Mixed reality, crazy. This thing is so good. I have an Aubika head strap with the battery so nice balance and extended playtime.
@@comeontars I have a Dlink 3060 WiFi 5. It's a tri band so I use my Q3 on a separate band on it's own. I get 866 Mbps connection stable. 29ms latency on average. AV1 encode selected. Half life Alyx at max settings at 120 fps. No artifacting at all. On Hevc it's noticeably worse. More aliasing, stuttering with drops in fps to 109 probably due to CPU. Latency is similar but goes up to 36ms. The quality is more like going back to the Q2 if that makes sense. You lose the advantages of the lenses kind of. The router is fine but I would definitely go for the ability to use the AV1 codec for sure over WiFi 6.

Coming form Q2 then the Pico 4, the Quest 3 has what i missed on the Pico 4 when it comes to PCVR, because it has more power, you can run 120Hz. which just feels much smoother, bigger FOV, sharper, and with virtual dekstop you get the new AV1 codec, which together with a RTX card works great, i benchmark in what i see mostly and you can see and feel it all when playing No Limits rollercoater simulator, and for the first time since i started VR it FELT smooth! Meaning not choppy! This is meanly because of the 120 Hz. but also the power of the Q3. And it will probably become even better with WIfi7 coming next year!

Sorry if this was answered elsewhere, but why Virtual Desktop over Airlink? What update/settings in VD makes it better than Airlink? I know some people have success with one over the other, I've never had an issue with airlink.
I know for one that VD has a mode where it lets the Snapdragon of the Q3 do some kind of superresolution thingy, making your anti aliasing look better at no performance cost of the PC's GPU. On Pico 4 and Quest 2 this worked till high resolution streaming (something round 2500x2500 I believe), but on Q3 it works for ultra and godlike resolution as well (3000, 3400).@@murphyjackson5873

I just ordered the 512GB model from Amazon after watching this video, you had me sold when you said it compares to Index and HP Reverb for PC games.

Hey @Beardo can you compare this to the Valve Index or another PC based VR setup? How does it handle fast animation? Like hold your hands in front of your face and wave them back and forth as quickly as you can. I sense a noticable difference between my quest 2 and my PC based Rift S when I do this.
I'm going from a Rift to Quest 3, this difference is amazing!
I hooked mine up via oculus link today, I have a cable that has sperate power to keep the headset running longer and I played some vertigo 2 and it looked amazing. Heck even the quest link starting area was markedly improved looking. I am so happy I got a quest 3. However it's still pricy after a 3 year warranty for and Uncle Sam getting his taste it cost me close to 700 dollars. Way more then I paid for the quest 2. .... still worth it though, this thing looks amazing
I've heard, if you get into the dev settings you can up the bitrate for the link cable and make it even better. Plan on trying it tonight.
What about the wireless lag? I've been using Rift S for the past 2.5 years. Tried Q2 for wireless airlink PCVR but no avail (laggy).
another great video beardo bendo! i got my quest 3 yesterday and im loving it too along w pcvr. Cant wait for all the great content you'll give us in the future.
Its so exciting to see the positivity and buzz around this headset compared the pro launch.
I really think Meta just need to focus on mainstream value headsets for now and this one is such a significant upgrade.
I'm also glad to see they went with the pancake lenses which is something Sony really should have done for the PSVR2.
psvr2 needs a refresh with improved lenses.
If I had a 4090 I'd be playing MSFS a hell of a lot more, that game is peak VR in terms of visuals and immersion 👌

According to reviews, that AV1 makes little to no noticeable difference to wireless and the link cable gives a better picture.

Can you play with a low PC with the quest 3 I have virtual desktop. I don’t know if it’s gonna work.
Won’t be very pleasant. If ur not getting consistent frames ur gonna get sick
You should try bumping the Quest's resolution percentage from 50% to 100% and see what happens to your PCVR experiences.
Do you have a link to the head strap you use? I just got my Quest 3 and already know I'll need a way better strap!
They are really tapping into the future with this headset and it's still just getting started wow
The Kayak game looks insane. Just by watching the video, it seems high quality. I could only imagine what it looked like inside the headset. Great video, as always!

How is it with air link? People keep talking about desktop, but on my quest 2 airlink works perfectly
It works as you would expect with airlink but it's just a smoother easier experience with virtual desktop, It's honestly worth the money. I've also noticed slight performance improvements when playing through VD.
@@FireElFreak airlink takes like one minute to set up, I've heard vd is more cumbersome. Also air link works perfect for me but I know its different for different rigs/setups

13:08 Flipping heck that look real
I'm not normally an early adopter, I normally wait until bugs are ironed out but this time I pre-ordered, got it yesterday and I love it.
6:38 Valve Index didn't age very well since 2019. It has really low resolution and screen door effect ever since then. However I still don't think it's worth to change yet. We don't have deepth of field yet like they announced it with Half Dome VR and its advanced optics and robust eye tracking. Dunno.
What headset strap do you have?? Sorry if it was mentioned in the video and I missed it
I’m sold. Thanks. My quest 3 will be my replacement for my daily drive, quest 2.
My Rift CV1 is definitely showing its age these days. Been on the fence about getting a PSVR2 just because most of my VR experiences are driving related on PC. The Quest 3 definitely has my attention. May treat myself to a nice christmas present this year
One of the wild upgrades with the Quest is the ability to use PCVR wirelessly in a room that your PC is not in
Best VR game Is Gran Turismo 7 and good wheel (PS5, psvr2 )Have PC and Quest 3.
Any plans to go over your PC setup? I'm looking to build but I'm new so it's nice to see what to look for as far as parts/performance.
Now, every FPS and 3rd Person Shooter should start getting VR. I am down for Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2 in coop in VR. My body is ready.

Awesome stuff!. How did you get the Bobo VR strap to work with the Quest 3??
How does the visuals compare from In headset no PC vs with a PC? Just ordered mine
That's through compression via a USB cable right? Wish they had an uncompressed faster cable option.
I was on the fence about it for PCVR. I got it for MR but was really surprised how good it is for PCVR. If you want a couple other pretty games on PCVR, Green Hell VR and Deep States are both beautiful.
Can you do 1 on quest 3 vs pro? Curious how much better it is be specs. Thanks..
Day Dreamer VR already compared them. There isn't much difference between Quest Pro and Quest 3 for PCVR. Not really worth the upgrade from Quest Pro.

Hows the binocular overlap between the two? I'm considering returning my Q3 because the overlap feels worse for me than Q2.
It seems worse for me too compared to the Quest 2, but not bad enough to return it. I got used to it and it doesn't bother me or really notice it
Getting mine tomorrow. Cheers! I'm gonna use this more frequently than my other 3 VR headsets.
You try the new codec?
@@comeontars I think it's automatic when selecting Godlike settings. I compared it to the Q2 wired and it's glorious. Truly satisfied with it.
@@Monster-Abee you got a 6e router by any chance? Curious if the gains that might provide

I have a quest pro not sure if i should even bother with 3
5:00 Great video and info! Just curious though, how did you manage to get your Bobo strap attached? @@murphyjackson5873 interesting i'll have to research unless someone can confirm
I know for one that VD has a mode where it lets the Snapdragon of the Q3 do some kind of superresolution thingy, making your anti aliasing look better at no performance cost of the PC's GPU. On Pico 4 and Quest 2 this worked till high resolution streaming (something round 2500x2500 I believe), but on Q3 it works for ultra and godlike resolution as well (3000, 3400).@@murphyjackson5873

no it still compresses the stream. you just get 5-8ms less latency from not using wifi
It's so clear using virtual desktop that I haven't connected the cable at all. But I think I'm able to use the highest codec having a 4000 series Nvidia card.
You can set the bitrate up to 960Mbps, it looks way better

Half Life Alyx is precisely why I cannot get a non-OLED HMD. I had to stop halfway through the game because the blacks were way too grey, so I'm skipping it and waiting for the Deckard. Also, no eye tracking makes it obsolete with no foveated rendering in its future.

Would it look better plugged directly into the pc?
Can you now squeeze the can now since the Quest 3 has a secondary pressure point on the trigger or grip?
I know you already are giving us some good stuff - but may I ask for a Cyberpunk 2077 look?
Yeahhh, Luke Ross VR mods is where it's at!!!

I’ve been limping along with a Frankensteined Rift S, tempted to get one of these simply to shackle to my pc. But I’m worried my network might not handle wireless well. Do you get as impressive results when tethering with a link cable?
How do you play MSFS with Virtual Desktop if you have the Microsoft Store version? I couldn't find info on that.
