@@MrMattMagooMhm, using the Oculus Debug Tool you can find in the files, with the Quest 2 I’ve always found raising the bitrate to at least 300 Mbps and disabling dynamic bitrate to look quite a bit better than default
Yeah the debug tool is great to squeeze more performance. Tip for sim racers. I reduce the vertical plane of view (forget what it’s actually called) to 0.6 when sim racing and I get about a 30-40% dump in GPU performance. It replicates a similar view if you where wearing a helmet, which you would be anyway. With that extra performance on hand you can increase fidelity in game. Of course if you prefer to look at your legs or the sky whilst racing that wouldn’t be for you 😊
Since the arrival of my quest 3, my previous oculus Rift S is obsolete now for PCVR-Gaming. Really everything about this Headset ist better than the Rift S... Except for the garbage stock-strap of the quest 3. :D
My own testing of my Quest 3, Virtual desktop and my ASUS wifi6e has been amazing. It's another tier of improvement from my wireless Quest 2 setup in terms of lower latency and jittering. I can barely tell in some games that the game's response is wireless. No need for tweaking of channels of the router wifi6e where Quest 2 needed to select a specific channel.
Seems like if anyone were to try and top the Quest 3 at $500 from now until whenever a Quest 4 is launched, it will absolutely need to be an OLED display with pancake lenses. That'll probably be the pinnacle of VR displays this decade. Your move, Valve (if you are in fact making the Deckard still).
every year when go and search for the current state of vr hardware, i get the same result. theres no perfect device, not even something, thats B+ in everything, enthusiast recommand compiing your own system, headset a, with controllers b and stations c, that only run with software over software and costs more then the high end gaming pc its running on and every other pack is eighter years old but didnt drop much in price, or is focused on entry level or casual experiences. on other words: if vr hardware, were gpus: then theres no 4070 or 4070ti. you can get a 2070 or 3070, or you buy a 4090 to have a less downsides, or get a 4060 and lives with downsides like godrays, screendoors, mediocre tracking, blurryness, compression. and that sucks. what iam basically looking for, is a state of the art index 2, upgraded in every way to the index 1, for 1000-1200 as pcvr complete pack with headset, baystations and controllers. the quest 3 was intially intersting to me, untill i heard people say, that it has visible screen effect problems, due to the tilted display and thats one thing i cant stand. thats why the index in its current state, its completly out
When talking about resolution, FOV clarity and purely specs yes its great. But link. The free option that comes with the headset has serious usability issues still! And its laughable No microphone support at launch (took over a year and a half to fix on quest 2 here we are again) ,no access to essential options like brightness or party chat while in link. Still tied to the horrible rift dashboard causing crashes and hanging constantly. We were promised a native link interface 3 years ago? Abandoned. This is not good enough. And yes virtual desktop a third party solution that costs money (cost of the app and a good enough router is not cheap on top of a £620 headset) can "fix" it for most games. But not all, VD isn't compatible with all games most cross buy versions of games don't work with vd at launch, games like Zennith, hellsweeper etc just aren't compatible with VD at all. I wish these problems would be highlighted by RUclipsrs So meta fixed it rather than just shilling. Imagine if ps5 launched with no mic support and half your games crashed if you tried to go to the home screen or access party menu) why are meta getting a free pass for basic usability features?

Do you have a link to the head strap you use? I just got my Quest 3 and already know I'll need a way better strap!
oh man, you did me so good here on the praise that I just bought the bloody thing them Quest 3, just bought in Germany with a premium strap and a pc cable. AND thank You sooo much at that!! Could you perhaps elaborate, I have had Oculus Rift S for 5 years now, how much of a quality bump is it going to be as compared to the quest 3 in terms of FOVs as well as resolution? Cheers and thank you so much for this review. :)
Good honest review, as a G2 owner I’ve struggled a bit with the associated programs, I fly mainly in MSFS, any chance you can do a settings video? I think I like it over the G2, just need to dial the setting in with my 12900+4090. Cheers
Is this harder to run on a mid range pc/laptop than the quest 2 in your opinion? My quest 2 runs amazingly well for pc vr on my lenovo legion 5p with an rtx 2060...don't know whether to take the chance.
Its so exciting to see the positivity and buzz around this headset compared the pro launch. I really think Meta just need to focus on mainstream value headsets for now and this one is such a significant upgrade. I'm also glad to see they went with the pancake lenses which is something Sony really should have done for the PSVR2.
Half Life Alyx is precisely why I cannot get a non-OLED HMD. I had to stop halfway through the game because the blacks were way too grey, so I'm skipping it and waiting for the Deckard. Also, no eye tracking makes it obsolete with no foveated rendering in its future.
5:00 Great video and info! Just curious though, how did you manage to get your Bobo strap attached? That's the biggest thing I miss from the quest 2 is the BOBOVR M2 Pro strap; I had heard Bobo was going to release a pro strap or adapter kit for quest 3, but I checked the Bobo site and its just a tantalizing, "Coming soon" Edit: Never mind, I see its released just sold out! Still, great video! 🙂
Amazing how could you even think on having a 4090 and use it with VR wireless, your are totally limited on bitrate bandwidth with wireless, on USB link you can get a LOT better image quality, if you really want to know what level of quality you can get with a 4090 in PC VR with Quest 2, 3, or Pro. Let me know.
Good video and you've probably convinced me to buy a Quest 3 once there's some soare cash available. Long-distance visuals for PCVR through a Quest 2 were absolutely awful in almost every game, and I found that very distracting. It looks like the Quest 3 is a significant upgrade in this regard.
Edit- Keep your eyes open for a Black Friday deal if interested in the Reverb G2V2. Last year they were $300 (half off) for the whole weekend & Cyber Monday. Definitely worth waiting to see at this point. Does anyone know how the Quest 3 runs on mere mortal/ last gen hardware? I don't have a 4090, "just" a 3080 so no 40 series AV1 for me... I guess it's still an upgrade to the Quest 2, but I'm thinking a native PCVR HMD pulls a little bit ahead for the time being.
I’ve only got a 3060ti and yep everything looks crisper in the Q3 compared to my Q2 and FOV better. I’d say there’s a 30-40% improvement in clarity. What’s also noticeable is that there’s less compression artifacts if any. I have only tested with link cable at 400mbs but will have to try as Ben did with wireless. I read somewhere that the image produced for pancake lenses requires less processing power than fresnel so could be that. Contrast and colours are still the limiting factors compared to PSVR2, though.
@@dtz1000 Interesting, I haven't seen a review about it yet, I'm sure they will come flooding in, but the anecdotal evidence so far (like first impressions) have all been positive claiming very little compression with higher frame rates, but then again how much of that is due to owning a 4090 in the first place?
The lenses are way better than Quest 2, but I do still see some fringing toward the sides. Not quite "edge to edge clarity". Not sure if mine are a bit faulty or if I'm expecting too much.
This review seems a little too 'good' to me. Most of the reviews I have seen so far do not say that the 3 'blows the 2 away', just a 30% improvement or so. Also, typical brit way overuse of 'absolutely'. Do they train you guys in school to say that 14 times every minute or something? 😉
There is controversy on how Meta has handled publicity, and the way they hand picked people that will ensure positive reviews and give incentives in a kind of disingenuous manner. It makes it hard to get a general grasp if Meta are happy to remove creators/influencers from early access and featured stuff etc if they don't make sure it's 99% "THE BEST PRODUCT". It kinda gives me an icky feeling with Beardo, coz I like his stuff, and he seems like he would love to be honest, but getting exclusivity and brand recognition helps, so being a sell out is a big oof...

Tried half life Alyx yesterday and it was top notch. What really surprised me was the airlink quality. With my wifi not being too fast, I was very impressed. Problem is, today I cannot connect airlink at all for some reason.
I was having the same issue. Might have been due to a VPN. I had to restart my PC like twice and also did the headset as well just to be safe and it eventually worked. The frustrating thing though is that in those 10-15 minutes that it took to get up and running the Q3 battery dropped like 10%.... the battery life is def lacking on these!
I already have my Quest 3 but I have not been able to unbox it because I'm busy working. So to hold me over, I've just been watching the barage of Quest 3 reviews on RUclips and I have to say that I am already bored before I even picked it up. It's okay though. I really only got it for the slight resolution upgrade. That being said, I feel like I'm already back to square one in a stagnant medium. passthrough games still feel really gimmicky to me and dont hold my attention for long. Very shallow gameplay. I'm in an abusive relationship with VR. It's like stockholm syndrome. I get treated like shit but I still want more.
“I’m not a flight sim guy”, Captain obvious.😉Thanks for the review. I’m thinking about getting one to take on the road but might replace my G2 at home if it’s as good as it looks here. Colleague of mine lost the engine in his Cessna Caravan near Saba a few years ago. Ended up in the drink. Whenever I see people flying around Saba in MSFS I always wonder if I would’ve tried to dead stick it on the very short runway, or just ditch.
I was looking for an all-purpose VR headset that would not cost me too much and would allow for a great PC VR experience. I think you sealed the deal on me getting the Quest 3.
I was on the fence about it for PCVR. I got it for MR but was really surprised how good it is for PCVR. If you want a couple other pretty games on PCVR, Green Hell VR and Deep States are both beautiful.
Coming form Q2 then the Pico 4, the Quest 3 has what i missed on the Pico 4 when it comes to PCVR, because it has more power, you can run 120Hz. which just feels much smoother, bigger FOV, sharper, and with virtual dekstop you get the new AV1 codec, which together with a RTX card works great, i benchmark in what i see mostly and you can see and feel it all when playing No Limits rollercoater simulator, and for the first time since i started VR it FELT smooth! Meaning not choppy! This is meanly because of the 120 Hz. but also the power of the Q3. And it will probably become even better with WIfi7 coming next year!

Does anyone know if its best or if you can use virtual desktop with a wired connection? Can i plug my headset right into my pc, use virtual desktop and have it run better than over wifi?
You don`t need virtual desktop for a wired connection. Just connect the headset to the PC via Usb-c (oculus link cable). The quality should be better. Someone will make a good video testing this soon I`m sure. Personally I would never buy a headset without Display Port. Valve`s new headset should be out next year. Sadlyitsbradley channel
Apart from your great review which I enjoy i must write something what might help you in future videos. Every "VR" youtuber should consider to smooth out and slow down head movements in VR. because such video is unwatchable. This is not only about you. Everyone. It is the same bad experience to watch like somebody recording skiing with head mounted cam and moving head like crazy. I worked on the topic and my stuff is watchable. Do not move head so fast. We really need an alternative face mask and another kind of head strap that doesn't press the Q3 into your face. That BoboVR M3 head strap is nowhere available... @@cia4gent128
Getting mine tomorrow. Cheers! I'm gonna use this more frequently than my other 3 VR headsets.
The Kayak game looks insane. Just by watching the video, it seems high quality. I could only imagine what it looked like inside the headset. Great video, as always!
I have it on viveport and it's unplayable with a 3060ti. Too laggy and jagged looking

I thought mine was brilliant, the quality of the screens looked great. Sadly I have had to return it due to dead pixels directly in-line with my vision. I will get another but im going to wait a few months now incase there's a quality control issue that needs sorting out.
Wireless connectivity is priceless for me
I just played Red Matter on Q3 for the first time and I'm blown away from how good it looks. After 2 years on a blurry Q2 it's a night and day improvement.
What is your opinion of the screen door effect - do you notice it ?
@@jaymanwitt Screen door is pretty much eliminated.
@@jaymanwittwarning: there are some headset with displays that are faulty. I have never noticed the screen door effect on my quest 2. But on the quest 3 I noticed a very very strange pattern across the whole screen anytime there is a white background. I also have what is either a dead pixel or a knick on the lenses.
Other than that what this video demonstrates is accurate. It’s absolutely insane how good PCVR looks on this thing. I never realized my PC was capable of such sharp visuals, the quest 2 was holding it back. Honestly really blown away despite the problems.
@@musashidanmcgrath but it was allready nearly eliminated on Quest2 ,is different really good from q2 to q3 ??Im still not Sure if i want change from q2 to q3 ,
@@kralkrauterblach414 Well for me the difference is huge. I was very disappointed with Quest 2, and I was dubious of the quality improvement claims of Q3, but I'm very impressed with the difference.
I really need to finish HL: Alyx. I haven't used my Quest 2 in months. Quest 3 is pretty impressive. I spent all my dosh on my PC upgrade. :D
i cant wait to get back into PCVR with my Quest 3, i have only tried Project Cars 2 atm and took a ford GT for a spin and worked perfect over airlink with wifi 6 and looked so amazing.
U made it look fun and that's what it is all about great job😊
I hooked mine up via oculus link today, I have a cable that has sperate power to keep the headset running longer and I played some vertigo 2 and it looked amazing. Heck even the quest link starting area was markedly improved looking. I am so happy I got a quest 3. However it's still pricy after a 3 year warranty for and Uncle Sam getting his taste it cost me close to 700 dollars. Way more then I paid for the quest 2. .... still worth it though, this thing looks amazing
I've heard, if you get into the dev settings you can up the bitrate for the link cable and make it even better. Plan on trying it tonight.
Beardo, can you tell us your configuration with airlink and Virtual Desktop?
My own testing of my Quest 3, Virtual desktop and my ASUS wifi6e has been amazing. It's another tier of improvement from my wireless Quest 2 setup in terms of lower latency and jittering. I can barely tell in some games that the game's response is wireless. No need for tweaking of channels of the router wifi6e where Quest 2 needed to select a specific channel.
What about the wireless lag? I've been using Rift S for the past 2.5 years. Tried Q2 for wireless airlink PCVR but no avail (laggy).
Great to hear! My plan was to finally get into PCVR with the Quest 3 and this makes me feel a lot better about that plan. Thanks Beardo!

every year when go and search for the current state of vr hardware, i get the same result. theres no perfect device, not even something, thats B+ in everything, enthusiast recommand compiing your own system, headset a, with controllers b and stations c, that only run with software over software and costs more then the high end gaming pc its running on and every other pack is eighter years old but didnt drop much in price, or is focused on entry level or casual experiences. on other words: if vr hardware, were gpus: then theres no 4070 or 4070ti. you can get a 2070 or 3070, or you buy a 4090 to have a less downsides, or get a 4060 and lives with downsides like godrays, screendoors, mediocre tracking, blurryness, compression. and that sucks. what iam basically looking for, is a state of the art index 2, upgraded in every way to the index 1, for 1000-1200 as pcvr complete pack with headset, baystations and controllers. the quest 3 was intially intersting to me, untill i heard people say, that it has visible screen effect problems, due to the tilted display and thats one thing i cant stand. thats why the index in its current state, its completly out
When talking about resolution, FOV clarity and purely specs yes its great.
It’s the wireless feature and the upgraded head strap that’s calling my name
I just ordered the 512GB model from Amazon after watching this video, you had me sold when you said it compares to Index and HP Reverb for PC games.

Amazing how far VR has come. The details in Alyx are mind blowing.
Wish half life alyx had a co op or multiplayer
and that game is years old now
Full head tracking consumer headsets have been around for just over 25 years, I am disappointed how slowly it has progressed.
All of my screens are oled (My chromebook, my tv, my pc monitor) If the Quest 3 only had oled I would have gotten it for sure!
I'm also glad to see they went with the pancake lenses which is something Sony really should have done for the PSVR2.
psvr2 needs a refresh with improved lenses.
That's the biggest thing I miss from the quest 2 is the BOBOVR M2 Pro strap; I had heard Bobo was going to release a pro strap or adapter kit for quest 3, but I checked the Bobo site and its just a tantalizing, "Coming soon"
Edit: Never mind, I see its released just sold out!
According to reviews, that AV1 makes little to no noticeable difference to wireless and the link cable gives a better picture.

Great video. I have a question for you. Was you using Virtual Desktop with MSFS?
Can you play with a low PC with the quest 3 I have virtual desktop. I don’t know if it’s gonna work.
Won’t be very pleasant. If ur not getting consistent frames ur gonna get sick
Really hope Bobo announces the m2 conversion kit soon. The stock straps ALMOST hurt, lol..
Also, are you using no gasket?
Great video, I’ve got a 4090 and the Q3 headset. Do you Recommend VD or wired using the Oculus link? Wonder what is better
I have been playing this as well is awsome on quest 3
That's through compression via a USB cable right? Wish they had an uncompressed faster cable option.
Can you do 1 on quest 3 vs pro? Curious how much better it is be specs. Thanks..
Day Dreamer VR already compared them. There isn't much difference between Quest Pro and Quest 3 for PCVR. Not really worth the upgrade from Quest Pro.

@alphaspartan I use the Virtual desktop now. Runs flawlessly
@@jbvroxx3208 don't you have to have airlink working to get to the virtual desktop?
Would you say its worth the upgrade from a Samsung Odyssey?
Dumb question. Should I buy virtual desktop on my PC or quest 3?
Now, every FPS and 3rd Person Shooter should start getting VR. I am down for Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2 in coop in VR. My body is ready.

Wait I swear I thought the quest 3 was micro oled darn. As a 4090 owner does anyone have any pancake non-fresnel pcmr alternatives to the quest 3?
How does the visuals compare from In headset no PC vs with a PC? Just ordered mine
Hows the binocular overlap between the two? I'm considering returning my Q3 because the overlap feels worse for me than Q2.

Apart from your great review which I enjoy i must write something what might help you in future videos. Every "VR" youtuber should consider to smooth out and slow down head movements in VR. because such video is unwatchable. This is not only about you. Everyone. I played some Pavlov yesterday on my Quest 3 using the pro controllers. It is defiantly better then the Quest 2. My GPU is an R6800xt, so it probably would be even better with the GTX 40xx GPU.
You should try bumping the Quest's resolution percentage from 50% to 100% and see what happens to your PCVR experiences.

But is a RTX3070Ti enough for a clean display or do you absolutely need an RTX4090?
I'll be upgrading from a rift S that I've never had controllers for. I've been playing racing and flying games exclusively and the tunnel vision is atrocious. Can't wait for it to get here.
I have a HP Reverb G2, unfortunately the first edition they released, whose controllers weren't reliable enough. I wonder if the Quest 3 could be considered an upgrade apart from the controllers.
