    Contrast: there is an option in accessability menu, if you turn it up a tiny bit it give the small bump in contrast you were looking for. doesn't fix the greys, but it makes everything pop more so the greys aren't as dominant. can recommend!

      It looks like a small improvement but the graphics still look like trash compared to PC or movies. I wish these companies would just skip like 3 or 4 iterations of minor improvements and just jump to something that is really good. Something with 270+ FOV and 4x the resolution. Props to Zuckerberg and Meta for pushing a lot of their chips into this technology. I think Meta knew that if they played it safe with merely owning Facebook and Instagram, that they would fade into obscurity over time. They’re billions in the hole with this investment but it really is the future, and the quest 3 is a huge pin in that timeline. Exciting times, I can only imagine how refined VR will be in 10 years.

      The standalone concept has turned millions of people against VR with many making the statement that "VR is a gimmick". In fact 18 million Quest owners don't play it, only 2 million monthly users.....that's not an advancement or an accomplishment in the industry. If they forced people to hook it to a PC, the user base might be higher, even if sale were lower. Quest 3 graphics still suck, my PSVR-1 hooked to a PS5 blows it out the water, but sure IF you have a decent PC rig it looks like Quest 3 is def the way to go. Sony is still the leader in the VR industry, Meta I the former leader with the last gen headset but until they can prove they can sell millions of this thing at $500-$650 then Sony is in the lead.

  • @contrabardus
    @contrabardus Год назад +12

    The aliasing is my only minor gripe with Quest 3.
    This is partially due to it using two screens that are at an angle inside the headset, so it doesn't quite do horizontal surfaces as well as you'd think given the resolution and lens improvements.
    This is a trade off for the horizontal and vertical FOV the angled lenses provide, and I think it's worth it, but you will notice that there's a small bit of aliasing on the edges of straight lines. More on the horizontal than the vertical.
    This is a very small gripe and overall it is an complete upgrade over the Quest 2.
    I wish there was a better way to get through the lens footage for stuff like this. It never looks as good as it does to your eyes, it's always washed out and blurrier than the actual headset.

  • @KindOldRaven
    @KindOldRaven Год назад +15

    I think the FoV thing really depends on your IPD in Q3 vs Index because I've heard several people, who own both, state that there's basically no difference. While some claim there is. I'm thinking either facial interface or their IPD being different might account for that.

      Unfortunately the default face mask doesn't allow the lenses to get quite as close to the eyes as they can be and thus some extra FOV remains unused. Removing the whole face mask and holding the Q3 as close as possible made quite the FOV difference for me! We really need an alternative face mask and another kind of head strap that doesn't press the Q3 into your face. That BoboVR M3 head strap is nowhere available... @@cia4gent128

I reduce the vertical plane of view (forget what it’s actually called) to 0.6 when sim racing and I get about a 30-40% dump in GPU performance. I’ve only got a 3060ti and yep everything looks crisper in the Q3 compared to my Q2 and FOV better. I’d say there’s a 30-40% improvement in clarity. What’s also noticeable is that there’s less compression artifacts if any. I have only tested with link cable at 400mbs but will have to try as Ben did with wireless. I read somewhere that the image produced for pancake lenses requires less processing power than fresnel so could be that. Contrast and colours are still the limiting factors compared to PSVR2, though.

GT7/PSVR2 clarity is pretty awful for far off objects like the castle on the Nordschleife being a blurry mess. In AMS2 it’s like 3 or 4 times the definition.

    Been using the Q3 since last night and still haven't managed to do everything I want. It's a big upgrade in many ways from the Q2. The hand operation without the controllers is crazy. Can't get over that.
    The colours are better on PC gaming than anything else. Maybe it's Virtual Desktop doing that. Really nice pop and the contrast is good enough. I never play at max brightness. Approx 50 percent so black levels are very acceptable. Better than the Q2. The Q2 added brightness levels in an update but I never liked what it did. It took the vibrancy with it. Not on the Q3.
    The lenses are the best I have ever seen. So clear.
    The resolution is amazing. I do have a 4090 so it's set it up for maximum quality. 120 Hz on some games. HL Alyx, insane. Mixed reality, crazy. This thing is so good. I have an Aubika head strap with the battery so nice balance and extended playtime.

Half life Alyx at max settings at 120 fps. No artifacting at all. On Hevc it's noticeably worse. More aliasing, stuttering with drops in fps to 109 probably due to CPU. Latency is similar but goes up to 36ms. The quality is more like going back to the Q2 if that makes sense. You lose the advantages of the lenses kind of. The router is fine but I would definitely go for the ability to use the AV1 codec for sure over WiFi 6.

    Coming form Q2 then the Pico 4, the Quest 3 has what i missed on the Pico 4 when it comes to PCVR, because it has more power, you can run 120Hz. which just feels much smoother, bigger FOV, sharper, and with virtual dekstop you get the new AV1 codec, which together with a RTX card works great, i benchmark in what i see mostly and you can see and feel it all when playing No Limits rollercoater simulator, and for the first time since i started VR it FELT smooth! Meaning not choppy! This is meanly because of the 120 Hz. but also the power of the Q3. And it will probably become even better with WIfi7 coming next year!
