We had a 2017 Tacoma exactly like the one in this video. In 2019 my wife was in a bad accident while driving the Tacoma. The Tacoma was totaled but it saved her life due to the Tacoma’s safety features.

My wife and I were hit from behind by a drunk driver while we were on the hwy cruising at 70 mph. The impact was enough to spin my truck three times and ended up hitting the guard rail by the median. I have no idea how the truck didnt flip, but it didn't. My wife bumped her knee but otherwise we were fine. The truck protected us and our unborn son at the time. Had for only three weeks, hadnt even made the first payment yet. We ended up getting another tacoma after the accident. Definitely built safe.

Wow! Just came back from an offroad trip and camp out with a group of friends here in California through Big Bear, down Rattlesnake Canyon to Johnson Valley, through the high desert and then to Cleghorn 4x4 trail. Our boy with his 24 Frontier Pro 4x was struggling BAD on these tight, exposed and endless trails and switch backs. We all found out just how bad his trucks turning radius and heavy steering is on the trails, and we had to save his truck more than once using straps and even one of our winches so he wouldn't get it stuck or die. We were so glad it wasn't heavily modified or else, who TF knows how much worse it would have been with a lift, larger tires and more weight and such. It was the only truck that we had to stop for regularly and get out and guide, just so he could make a simple switch back. 🤦🏾‍♂️ He's only had it for a month and after his ordeal this past long 4th of July pre weekend, he already made up his mind and is going back to a 3rd gen Tacoma lol! He literally traded his 19 Tacoma TRD pro for it and is now kicking himself for doing so. Long story short: the frontier is not trail friendly and I would recommend that you NEVER go solo on some isolated and potentially dangerous or advanced trails. I go solo on my Taco all the time with my kids and lady, but wouldn't do the same on a frontier. I guess I love my family too much. Also, he tore the F out of the back sides of the rear seat back rests folded down, since they are lined with weak cloth, after putting his fridge and some other materials that he would carry on his Tacoma for the trip lol! How TF you don't line them with hard materials like the Taco and other trucks?

Bought a 2022 Pro-4x about 3 weeks ago. I love Toyota and Nissan. Actually everything out of Japan.
Seating position was the thing for me as well. Taco, my knees are higher than my hips. That is uncomfortable for me for very long. I’m 6’ 200 lbs.
Pro-4x, power is much better, shifts like butter, ride is much better, and it is really quite inside for a mid size truck.
I’m glad Nissan finally stepped up their game. Competition between brands is better for the consumer. I have no doubt the new Taco will be amazing. I’m not a fan of the turbo 4’s but I have no doubt, Toyota’s will be the best available.

I've been driving Toyota trucks for 30 years. The last 15 were in a Tundra. I'd like to downsize and drove both trucks. The seating position in the Taco is still too low. The Frontier has a much more comfortable seat. That's huge. The options packages seem to be a bit more limited for the Frontier or should I say there are less configurations available. IMO If they added the fender flare on the SV it would add a more mid trim aggressive look which would be appealing. I like the Toyota's back seat a little more but in reality I'm in the truck alone 97% of the time so I'd rather have more comfort as the driver. The Frontiers that I've seen lifted with aftermarket wheels look awesome. Plus like every third truck on the highway is a Taco...so boring.

I know Toyota will end up being the favorite simply because of its long going track record. But, I like the front of the Toyo, but the back of the Nissan. I also think the interior of the Nissan is nicer, because the Toyo has way too many circles for everything, and I'm not a fan of so many circles. Hey, that's me. Haha
I think Nissan needs to put some better Wheels and Tires on this truck to make it look more competitive. The Toyo looks much more aggressive, and that can also be a selling point.

I agree with all your points. There are some lifted frontiers showing up on RUclips, and they look tough with that new body. They could build a NISMO above the pro 4x to really challenge the top Toyota. If they can make the z, 510, gtr, 620, hardbody, etc, they can do anything the best when they decide to.

Most reviewers do seem to have the Toy bias. I've had both brands. I hear all this Toyota reliability stuff, but when did Nissan EVER build an unreliable truck? A guy in Chicago got rewarded by Nissan for taking his Frontier a million miles on the stock running gear. I had an sr5 Toy 4wd that was great, but it did eat a head gasket and rear diff early in its life. I have a Hardbody with 423k miles. Seems once a belief is widely established, it becomes increasingly resistant to bring challenged. So many reviews have said the Frontier has stronger powertrain, more comfort, nicer overall to drive, better frame and brakes, etc, yet they still say its Toyota due to resale and reliability. They forget about all those rusty Toyota frames too. So they perpetuate the Toyota tax. When I got mine years ago, they were reasonably priced.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed Competition isn't a bad thing at all. That said, over the years, I have owned, a truck from every major manufacturer, and all but the Toyota's required routine repairs. I had only two parts that needed replaced among the three Toys, 1) Water pump, and 2) A/C compressor. That is less than all the other brands individually. Also, I embrace the driving experience of the Toys. I don't need the fastest from point A to B, softest ride, or a car type quiet cabin etc. I want a truck, and all that comes with that experience, which is half the fun. FYI, the two parts I replaced were on my 1994 Toy truck. After 18 years, its frame developed serious rust, and I still sold it for more than book price. I went with a new Frontier as I don't like the way how Toyota Tacoma's tow. Both trucks are very good depending on how you use them.

Oh nice! Great choice, the Frontier offers a lot!

I think your off with the ride quality. The seats are way more comfortable. The visibility is way better with the Ford style door and the sloped hood. Your right about materials and the size in the back.

Honestly ride quality preference is subjective. So my opinion about what I find comfortable might be different than yours. This video shows a Nissan and Toyota. Not a Ford. Visibility in all the trucks in this segment I'd say are the same. Every truck I've ever been in has great visibility

Frontier is a much better truck. Not to mention you can find it almost $12k cheaper

Actually comparing similarly equipped specs. They are the same price. Frontier is a great truck tho and is a good competitor to the Tacoma

@@BrosFOURRSpeed dealerships in my area have Tacomas with the same tech as the Nissan I bought for $48k. The Nissan dealer I got my 2022 frontier had it at 35k. $13k less. Good luck getting a Tacoma for msrp

Just depends on the stealership you go too. I bought two 2021 tacoma trd offroad last year. 39k for the base TRD and 44k for the trd premium. Yup i paid msrp for both of them.

How come? I don’t mind the drums, Toyota did that because they know Tacoma owners would be offroad more and it’s better than having discs.
