    Jordan Peterson's main piece of advice for people looking to orient their lives (he is a Jungian psychologist) is for them to begin introducing order where they can: aka, clean your room. I was pleased to see Dr. Lisle mention that credo and articulate that the messy room requires more mental energy to make it rational than a clean room, leading to willpower depletion. Great video!

    This may be out of Doug Lisle’s scope but I think Dr McDougal understands what I learned from Jon Gabriel- I didn’t feel safe. When I don’t feel safe my body to protect me goes in to over eating mode to “protect me”. The unique part from Jon Gabriel is letting the body reset to relearn being slim is safety. I listen to Jon Gabriel audios over and over and when I do I find “will power”. I lose the desire to grossly over eat and mostly make better vegan choices. I am relearn “safe”.
    I’m 56 with many physical problems like severe degenerative disc disease in my neck, was told I’m too young but I’ll need knee replacements so actually losing weight would be the best thing for me. I have a ton of fibroid tumors so losing weight and eating healthy making the right choices is so important. It’s important for walking it’s important for my mental and physical well-being and if I do need surgeries which it looks like I may need then being slimmer is much safer and healthier for me to cope with coming back from surgeries.
    When I eat less take my time to taste my food, chew and go in to slimmer mode O feel so much better I don’t need “willpower”.
    Dr Lisle may not understand victims of violence not his pervue. I was a victim of violence at MD’s in Soho, NYC my patient rights my body repeatedly violated - I stopped sleeping gradually gained weight my posture became awful, loss of “willpower” was stuck in fight and flight adrenal overload cortisol all those hormones - trying to keep me safe.
    I recently made dramatic change in my body but I feel really fragile will this miracle change keep going and I’d like to lose 12 more pounds gradually slowly I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it I hope so.
    When I see light at the end of the tunnel to listen to Jon Gabriel , Dr McDougal, High Carb Hannah and Derek, Jeanine Elder potato wisdom - I suddenly feel like I’ve reset myself and food is not my number one focus... I still battle feelings of feeling scared of food after the violent attack I gradually became very frightened of food but if I eat this food it’s going to make me fat I’m not a hunter percent healed not near healed I still feel scared sometimes of food....
    I really don’t like the word will power but when I’m in a positive loving mode with food with myself I’m in the direction that I want to be going a slimmer healthier self.

    Just a thought, the radish group was actually more productive, realizing an unsolvable problem much faster than the cookie group. One would be much more productive dropping the unsolvable problem and moving their focus onto a much more productive task. The cookie group was high on sugar and took longer to realize the problem was unsolvable.

    I have recently been recommended to your videos doctor and love what you do. While I'm not a huge meat consumer and could easily adopt a new diet, my gf is Filipino, type 2 diabetic and despite the fact even the mere suggestion of a meatless diet usually ends up a very heated discussion (we did try for 1 month and had great results, but was short lived) Anyway that's our problem, I will keep trying. As diet is very important though Doctor. I'm curious about your thoughts on fluoride and the effects on the human body. It's in our water, we drink it, wash our food in it, bathe in it, brush our teeth with it etc and it is said to calcify the pineal gland, lower reaction time and I'm sure has other nasty effects. I'm no expert Doctor so I am very interested in what you have to say on the topic and perhaps learn ways to reduce it's intake, it seems so unavoidable. Iodine I believe. I feel this might make for a good discussion and am sure others would agree or are totally unaware.

    Good summary (last 10 minutes), but, most people who ask "what time is it" don't want an explanation on how to build a watch. :-) The first 52 minutes of research data with Dr. Lisle's artwork could have been summarized with a simple statement and graph that "people who are more stressed have less willpower; here are four things we can do to improve our willpower."

    Fat and protein provide satiety and refined carbohydrates and other carbs like bread, rice and pasta spike insulin and cause hunger.

    • @Janet_Price
      @Janet_Price 6 лет назад +5

      Sorry, complex carbohydrates do NOT cause insulin spikes. Because complex carbs have FIBER, they create satiety and keep blood sugar levels low.
      Many complex carbohydrate foods contain fiber, vitamins and minerals, and they take longer to digest - which means they have less of an immediate impact on blood sugar, causing it to rise more slowly.

      michaelinde1 My best to you too. Your phrase is from Dale Carnegie's book about how you can’t win an argument. This is true, especially in Neanderthal times (because the one with the bigger stick, usually won!)
      But that’s where the invention of science, and objective vs subjective thought often ended with objectivity and rational data winning at the end of the day.
      I’m an engineer. A man of science. While it’s often difficult to win an argument in a social-Neanderthal setting, I have high hopes for science, and the advancement of humanity, regardless of what happens in these petty forums.
