    Should be interesting for thermals inside that chassis. Considering it won't be getting much air from those fans, I would assume that it would burn up eventually.

    I wonder if it's possible to simply remove the fans and shroud from the original card and just rely on the server's cooling to cool it. (The fins are running the correct direction, so maybe?) Might have even allowed you to use the original expansion slot bay and not bought the expansion one.

    I agree a reference card would have been best the fans are basically going to blow the heat against the top of the case. It may heatlock. saying that, if it's just getting used for h264/5 encoding it should be fine. If not, you get to install another!

    The GPU is going to be grossly under powered. The PCI lanes only supply up to 75 watts of power. The card should be plugged into the PSU, not the riser card itself. The 960 is easily a 125 watt card. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @Kirbyofdeath
      @Kirbyofdeath 8 лет назад +1

      That's what the extra cable is for. Even though the riser card goes in what seems like your average PCI-E slot, it actually has extra leads that bring the extra power to the power cable. It's a " wire-free" approach.

    Looks cool. Maybe you should do some more testing with GPU and a HP DL 380. I personally love the DL 380 line. The front panel is excellent idea since it shows what is wrong and where instantly from the front. I had one the other day that had RAM DIMM failure and I knew it from the front panel. All DIMMs were orange haha It was due to moving the server across country and the DIMMs must have giggled around. Re seating them and bingo back online in minuets.
    Also I agree with others the best would be a "Stock" or "Reference" design maybe something from EVGA. Since they blow out the back and it keeps in with the server air flow design.
    Furthermore how is the dust in your playhouse server room? Do you have to clean your 24/7 IBM sometimes? I presume you don't have any filtering in there.
    I was tempted to buy a Apple Xserve the other day. Just for fun lol. I decided against it since it was only a quad core one. :P I am a 8 core kinda guy :P haha

    A graphic card with rear exhaust should Do Better with heat and performance in a server. And why a gaming card why not use a workstation graphic card?

    I built up one of these with the second CPU and media bay and HBA's and second 1400w psu - it was damn sexy :D
    Shame it's literally wasted as a hyper-v core host though D:

      HI
      A good GPU can do simple calculations, up to 100 times faster then the fastest CPU.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  8 лет назад +2

      HI
      Probably trying to print out a nice christmas card, on a piece of overhead plastic . On a big $10.000 color laser printer,,,, it melted inside the printer,, used $3000 trying to fix it, but My boss ended up buying a new one for $5000. A $18.000 chrismas fuckup on my side... and is was a little private thing i was doing :-/ I am still hearing about this 14 years later.
      Can you beat that?
      Thank you for watching! :-)

      +My PlayHouse (Morten Hjorth) oo god that sucks...
      I broke 3 of my GTX 780's while overclocking... this probably not much money to adults, but to a young 15 year old it is :(
