If he was such a "good friend" he would have more info about the state of his cancer over the last two years instead of calling to ask for his money. With friends like these...
15 years ago I went in business with a husband and wife. We each owned 33.3%. At the end of he 2nd year we had really grown the business and at the end of the year I got with the account and got the final reports and realized they were using company money for personal things. I was somewhat okay for that. They took their year end bonus and my portion was $100,000. She said, we can't pay you we don't have it. Then the next day she said, "We're going to let you go and pay you 2 weeks salary" I laughed and said, "You can buy me out, I'm an owner but you can't fire me" LOL I ended up letting them buy me out, but instead of taking it all at once I gave them 3 months. Always have a contract.
@@dioltlw3144 No when we started the company we used attorney's and it was all on paper, she thought she could pull a fast one. She KNEW I was part owner, she had a copy of the contract.
@@John3.36 Exactly, she was a crook and he was really a good guy. After I left, I didn't talk to them for 5-6 years then one day he accidentally called my cell thinking it was someone else. We had a good conversation and by now I was running a national company. I ended up sub-contracting some work to him and we both made nice money. I ended up doing business with him subbing to him for about 5 years before I retired. I never spoke to her.
That was the case with my biz partner. The doctors are really bad about finding some cancers and just gave him pain killers for what he thought was back pain for nearly a year. It was kidney cancer.
Medicaid is helpful. Also self-pay rates are much less expensive. I had to pay out-of-pocket for my first pregnancy/labor/delivery. The epidural was billed at $7K. I called and asked if that was the self-pay rate, and it dropped to $1,400. I still don't have health insurance, but we belong to a co-op (Zion Healthshare) that covers big medical expenses.
I would have at least visited him when he talked about his health issue..just out of humanity...now he doesn't even know if he is alive!! If the man is alive and struggling forget about the 8k man.....if he still alive, evasive or lied ... then legal letter from lawer straightforward
Two possible scenarios. First, he did have cancer, died (but that does not explain the phone still connected or why next of kin didn't tell you to go away). Second, he lied about the cancer and has ghosted you. My money is on the second.
Why not go to his house and talk to the guy. As she said business is business and if he's as bad as he is then you can decide what to do from there but I'm stuck with...2 years ago!?!?
Has he gone to him in person ? Was there a written agreement? If not Delaney is right, 2 years of texting is useless. Either man up and go face to face, or let it go.
Not nearly enough info here. What did they do together before? Is it a career position or just some job? Is he still visible out there, social media, LinkedIn, etc? Is he out there still doing stuff, is he dead, did you give $8,000 to some scammer who tended bar with you, what’s the deal here?
It wasn't confusing at all, he may have considered him a good friend because of trust/ respect but he immediately clarified by stating he only knew him professionally
Just go and pay him a visit first, before we jump to conclusions🙄 people act like they can't go to anyone's home and visit anymore or call....its text, text ,text.
Did they have a health plan attached to the business? If so, he might be mad the caller took it away from him when he really needed it. Also took away his income by insisting the business be closed down.
Evidently you've never been around someone seriously ill with cancer. In reality, they are laid up and on their phone almost constantly because that's the only thing they have energy to do.
People change their phone numbers. He doesn’t even know if he’s alive?? Worrying for years and calling a radio show instead of finding out if he’s alive

Chances are the guy does not have the money and is therefore not going to pay it willingly. Which means dragging him to court, winning a judgement, and then going through further steps to have any wages garnished or property confiscated which may not ever happen. If he's not willing to go through a long battle he's probably not getting his money back.
Sometimes you have to write off losses and move on. I think the equation is that it takes 3 times as many gains to emotionally cover a particular dollar amount that is a loss. Even if the gain has nothing to do with the loss.
The business should have had the money not having each to pay half. Also, does the other guy not have a social media like FB where you can see if he's still posting?
ugh, I’d let it go. At this point, if the guy was going to pay it back, he would’ve. I’m not sure spending resources going after him is worth the 8k or the time…
Started the biz with a good friend two years ago. A year later the friend told him he had cancer. I sent him one text. Now, it's been about two years? And, we just kinda knew each other. 😂
He corrected himself immediately after the good part and said he only knew him professionally. The entire call he talked like he wasn't close with the guy
With him being a single dad and has cancer on top of it, he wouldn’t have the money to pay back. I would just think of the 8k as a donation and move on with my life. I know it’s a decent amount of money but if you are well off than him I think it’s not worth the time and energy to try to get that money due to his circumstances. God will bless you triple that amount in the future.
Thats such a stupid take because the debt was working for the business, and its probably a fair assumption from what the caller said that everything was going fine with the business, it makes no sense to make up a cancer story all of a sudden when everything was going fine. Its probably fair to assume if things kept rolling either way the business the debt would have continued to not be a problem, vast majority of businesses run on debt

She has helped me raise my reserve from $175k to $850k, despite inflation
The guy host is not listening to the caller. They are business associates, not good friends. Also, I would verify the guy actually had cancer and is still sick. He may have just wanted a way out of the business, and made up cancer because it's hard to ask anything of someone with cancer without feeling like the bad guy.
They didn't really ask the important question till the last second hut if hes actually had like ZERO contact in 2+ years....how does he even know if hes alive still?
If he was an honest man he would let you know how he is doing and if he can pay you back. Sounds like he is not interested in paying if he cans or not.
Dude the host on the right needs to improve her interviewing style. She asks a question and inserts her own answers and opinions into it before they can fully respond. Just ask the question and let them respond, you don't need to force the narrative, the questions and answers will do that naturally.
