    A classic moment between the two greatest heavyweights of all-time. For those who don't know, Joe Louis fought on a "Bum of the Month" tour during his days as champion, where he defended his belt 13 times in about a year and a half, winning most of them by KO.
    Because Louis defended his title so often in that timespan and knocked out most of his opponents, Louis' opponents were named the Bum of the Month Club. This was a bit of a misnomer, however, because most of his title defenses were against top-ranked heavyweights.

      Oh no, The best of all time. The time he was in with all he had against him. Where nutrition was at compared to "better fighters" at their time and today is night and day. Exercise and power gaining knowledge in comparison is night and day. To do what he did is not on the same level as other fighters. I believe he defended his title 15 times in one year, that will never be matched again with fighters today lucky to fight more than twice a year. Best of the best.

    • @alaza61
      @alaza61 8 лет назад +3

      Lucc701 I disagree. Joe was great, but the competition level in the heavyweight division began to enhance as the years went by. The heavyweights in the 60s, 70s, and beyond....redefined that division. In modern times, Joe would most likely be a light heavyweight. Not only that, Muhammad Ali, as well as many of the men he fought, such as George Foreman, Sonny Liston, and even modern fighters like Evander Holyfield could've beaten Joe Louis. His "bum of the month" club literally consisted of many bums...who were easy for Joe to hit. His power was devestating, but he was a very slow starter, his footwork wasn't efficient enough to keep up with the likes of fighters like Ali, or any heavyweight of his size, reach, and speed. Joe is a legend, but not the best EVER in the heavyweight division. Now pound for pound, Sugar Ray Robinson is the GREATEST. Joe Louis HIMSELF....said this. Muhammad Ali HIMSELF co-signed this. Sugar Ray, pound for pound, is the all-time best....and that's according to Joe Louis himself.

    • @kennethjohnson5440
      @kennethjohnson5440 8 лет назад +13

      A lot of people forget that when Ali started out as a professional boxer, he weighed around 190 lbs. He put on weight as he matured. So did Evander Holyfield who many considered a blown up heavyweight. I think Joe Louis would've also put on weight to adjust with the times so I'm tired of hearing that bullshit about weight. I loved Ali as well but for him to be so light on his feet, everyone tend to forget that he took way too many unnecessary punches. How can a man that move so well take these many punches to the body and head. Just like Frazier and Norton, Joe Louis would've also found the target on Ali. But Louis was quicker of hand and had more power than Frazier and Norton. Ali was quick but he was not a master defensive fighter like a Whitaker or Mayweather. Don't get it twisted. Ali was a very good boxer but he was not a master boxer like Joe Louis. What made Ali great was his showmanship and fighting the good fight for our people outside the ring. I love them both.

    • @alaza61
      @alaza61 8 лет назад +6

      +Kenneth Johnson He took punches as he got older, but all of this shit you're saying doesn't change the fact that Ali was too quick, had way too much reach, and too agile to ever get knocked out by Joe Louis...who would only be able to beat him by knockout...but he couldn't catch him to do so. Ali could also tie you up, push you off with sneaky rights and lefts coming out of the clinch, AND he could take a punch. No Comparison. Anyone who says Joe would beat Ali...is basing their conclusion on emotions instead of logic. By the way, it's not like Joe didn't take punches either. Remember Billy Conn? He was losing that fight until he got lucky and landed a good punch on Conn...who was a fast stick-and-mover. If he could give Joe Louis trouble....Ali would play games with him. Watch Ali fight Zora Foley, and that's how the fight between Joe Louis would've went.

    I like the playfulness of these two champions. Deep down Joe Louis knows that Ali would have given him fits in his prime. The 60s version of Ali would have been too much for Louis. It would have been a carbon copy of Louis vs. Conn 1 with Billy Conn circling Louis and hitting him with punches and constantly moving. Ali would've been Conn times 3. The 70s version of Ali with less speed and movement would have been a more even match for Louis. If Louis planted a few right hands on Ali, then Ali would be in trouble. Louis was a tremendous finisher. Either way, these two are all-time great fighters no doubt.

      He can run, but he can't hide. If Frazier could touch him, Joe Louis certainly would have, as he was miles ahead of Frazier as a technical fighter, plus he was bigger and faster. no special footwork, not particularly agile, just stands there and smacks some hard fists that are nowhere near as hard as earnie and formen's punches. And he should win against Ali? stop me please When it comes to football too, many say that Pele is the best, even though he's just a standard footballer these days. I respect the Allstars, but you have to put the emotions aside and sometimes be neutral and evaluate them objectively.

      They use mostly counters when up close. The lateral movement is very basic. They don't seem to be able to punch from range while doing it smoothly. They have to stop then punch most of the time. Their feet are mostly tiptoeing.

    Depends on which Ali and which Louis showed up. Prior Schmeling fight Louis wasn’t as refined on the counter right and dropping his left. Prior Cooper Ali was so fast and quick and good he left himself open to shots he had no business taking with his level of skill at the time. Louis is just doing what every great champion does. Holmes did it to Tyson even after being knocked out 🤣 said “Mike who”. Of course Holmes was past his prime but it’s that great champion mentality of no you can’t beat me! I think Ali adapted better in the ring than Louis and was faster and Louis edges Ali out on power. Both incredible counter punchers and both are at the tippy top of heavyweight champions!

    This fight is projected to be like AIi VS Williams or London. If Louis could somehow survive this early onslaught without getting KOed or cut badly, then he probably has a better shaht of winning than losing. Because, if it goes late and stamina becomes an issue, Louis had top 10 ALL-TIME power and the prime AIi did not take punches as well. If I were training Louis(since he'd be in a nightmarish matchup), I'd hope that AIi, due to Louis' power, would give Joe a lot of respect by using his energy to stay away and tire himself down. Joe would not be able to win a decision, but would have go after the body when AIi tired(to keep him that way) or go for the KO in this small window of opportunity. And, I'd tell him to keep his hands up early to avoid the fight being over early. STILL, IN NORMALCY, LOUIS LOSES BIG AS THE ABOVE FIGHTS STATE...
