- In today's video we'll be going over how bad the Orlando Magic have ruined their rebuild after Dwight Howard left through the NBA Draft. From Multiple NBA Draft Busts, mismanaging players, and rushing their rebuilds. These are the many reasons the Orlando Magic are still in the basement today. And not with Paolo Banchero their new 1st overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft, things look to be on up for the Magic for the Future.

One word: Hennigan, who was the GM for early to mid 2010s who made all these bad decisions. Make matters worst, he traded Oladipo and Sabonis to OKC because that was his old team, in other words, he helped them out. Nothing will change my mind about it. Right now we have a whole different regime from that time and with picks like Franz and Suggs, we are in position for number 1 pick. Future is bright and time to move forward.

@@Alvini_Linguine naw Hennigan was just a terrible GM. He was a lame duck GM who knew was gonna get fired and pulled off panic move after panic move to try to save his job.
@@Alvini_Linguine Its not true, just part of my frustration as a Magic fan and thinking what if this is the reason lol. Honestly, it can be that he was just terrible as a GM and thought making those moves were gonna help the Magic win games. I think Frank was the coach at that time and was a new hire for the Magic and so his direction was wanting to have Ibaka in a bigger role to play with VUC, but it failed bad for the Magic.
I never thought of that. You know he got a job as assistant GM for OKC a few weeks after he was fired by ORL

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Magic stopped annually shooting themselves in the foot once Hennigan was catapulted past tampa and into the gulf and Hammond was brought in.
Hennigan wasn't the worst drafter but he really fucked up the Magic at the end with that Oladipo trade. He was trying to save his job with the trade and failed spectacularly. Thankfully that trade eventually netted us Fultz.
Orlando is going to be good in a couple years!

This is a good video until you get to Cole Anthony. That was a great draft pick, especially at the 15 spot, Maxey is currently the better player, but isnt the main focus for opposing defenses like Anthony is. Suggs' only issue was shooting, but he was an incredible defender and playmaker. Both of those guys are going to be really, really good in upcoming years, especially behind Markelle Fultz.
You also still mispronounced Wagner's name...his first name is pronounced "Frawnz"

I think it’s an unfair analysis when there were two different GM’s that were making draft picks for the Magic during this time period. The Rob Hennigan Era was pure shit. Aside from drafting Victor Oladipo, Rob Hennigan fucked everything else including the development of players. Maybe Mario Hezonja can get a pass because the Magics position was tough and how could they have known about Devin Booker so far down. But no I’m still not giving him a pass for that. I think Jeff Weltman and John Hammond have been good so far. I think you went too hard on the Mo Bamba pick. The Magic were 1 pick away from Trae Young or Luka Doncic that year.

Otis Smith from 2004 thru 2012 did a great job after he was fired along with stan in 2012 alex hired a 30 Yr old gm Rob hennigan and he made one mistake after another jeff weltman and john hammond were hired and since 2017 they got rid of all there bad contracts now have capspace and a roster full of young players the magic will be back in a big way
Otis smith had a great start but ever since trading for Vince carter when he was going down hill he started making moves to save his job
Hey hi clippers fan also, watched a lot of magic basketball as I live on the east coast and found them a fun team to watch. I wanna defend cole here I get what the stats say, but I think that’s mostly because of the start of the season as the season ended his second half was very impressive and his splits were more impressive. His shot selection keeps getting better. With the addition of Markell too he played off ball well and I think that’s a case of his growth not being shown through stats because of a bad first half.

2) Furthermore not having anything to do with nurturing young players

It's different with our new leadership. We haven't been drafting bad and have made a couple of really good trades lately. Love the deal to trade vuc. Players love Mosley and by all accounts there's a good locker room atmosphere.
Victor oladipo wasn't a failed pic. Orlando just was a bad franchise. Obviously Vic was a worker because. He got better every year and eventually became an All-Star. ... At which point, he was one of the best two guards in the game. Not to mention one of the better two-way players as he was a spectacular defender... The only thing that derailed him me was injury...........
Yeah these past 10 years have been terrible, but their current management who they've had since 2017 have made some smart moves apart from the Bamba selection. Good things are up ahead for Orlando
Bamba wasnt a terrible selection tbf. The problem we had at the time, was that we needed a SG or a 2 way guard, as we were weak in that area. Mo came into the team at the wrong time, and didnt have enough opportunities with Clifford refusing to give him much playing time. I think Mo can still turn out to be a good player, as he is a good shooter

I feel bad for Magic fans. Every decade they had at least a superstar, except for 2010s and 2020s. Shaq and Penny in 90s, injuries and jealousy. 00s, TMAC injuries, and Dwight Howard team couldn’t win against the better teams in the West.

This video is chock full of hindsight and laziness tbh. Calling Suggs a flop after one season where you mention he was dealing with multiple injuries? LOL
Yes the Magic flirted between mediocrity and being a full on dumpster fire but that is in large part due to having bad draft luck after landing Dipo in 2013, an in over his head GM in Rob Hennigan who seemed to have an general eye for talent but did not know how to construct a coherent roster whatsoever and Devos/Alex Martins for butting in and demanding playoff success before even trying to develop the talent.
The last part in that paragraph was the reason why our 2nd (current) rebuild got delayed as ownership wanted Weltman/Hammond to get Orlando to the postseason with the current roster. That is the reason for hiring Clifford. At the time they took the helm, our salary cap was a complete mess and AG, Vuc and Evan had little to no value. When ownership finally backed off, you saw Weltman/Hammond do what they originally set out to do and that is construct the roster to their image. By those "meaningless" playoff runs, we were able to increase the values of Vuc (especially him) and AG to nuke the old squad and reconstruct the team.
Our guard rotation is certainly a question mark no doubt but our front court is now set for years (hopefully Isaac will be a part of this). I believe Suggs will improve and Fultz will be fully healthy for the first time in two years. We also own all of our 1st/2nd round picks, the Bulls pick this coming season and Denver's pick in 2025 granted they don't land in the top 4 along with a slew of 2nd rounders from other teams. We have a clean cap sheet now and intriguing young talent that could be dangled for trades. The 1st rebuild was ass but this one is going very good especially landing Paolo.
Also if you want more views on your video, I probably wouldn't go making fun of Magic fans. I mean you're a Clippers fan so there isn't much room to talk there bud lol.

I know they did good, I said they drafted the 2nd best player in the draft. But they traded said 2nd best player in the draft so EVAN FOURNIER can get a pay day. That was the mistake

The rebuild is going perfect right now. We making the playoffs this year and the finals in 3-5
besides the young talent, we still have plenty of cap space to bring in one or 2 top Free Agents.

@@Alvini_Linguine During the draft, teams can not actually swap draft picks (picks from that draft anyways). That why you have teams drafting a player then immediately trading him. They're drafting him for the other team that actually wants him. If it were the NFL they would just trade for the pick and then draft him themselves, but a rule technicality stops you from swapping picks on draft day.

4:25 Evan Fournier wasn’t part of that trade. They played with each other in Orlando. The trade was just for Ibaka

Judging by the comments, I’m not going to watch the video. Instead I’m going to say this: Do more research on Orlando Magic. Bad draft picks didn’t do us in. We was always one pick behind the franchise changing talent. And don’t say Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2013. If everyone knew Giannis was going to be who he is, Cleveland Cavaliers would had taken him 1st that draft. Bad trades did us in. Tobias Harris/ Brandon Jennings-Ersan Ilyasova trade. And the Victor Oladipo-Domantas Sabonis/ Serge Ibaka trade ruined are rebuild. Rebuild was going great until Rob Hennigan screwed up his own rebuild. Leaving Jeff Weltman and John Hammond to fixed the mess. They tried to savage the rebuild with us reaching the playoffs in 2019 and 2020. But realize after the injury bug and covid ravaged the team early on in the 2020/21 seasons that it was time to start over again.

Im a Orlando fan and ill be brutally honest. Orlando sucks at developing players. they have never been good. if the player they draft isnt already NBA elite it always turns into dud. the only time they were successful in the draft was O'neal, and the only reason they got penny is bc O'neal told orlando to draft him. wasnt even Orlando choice. O'neal has a better eye for talent then they do. and howard is there other. besides that they sign mcgrady and got carter. which were two players already establish players.
I wanted them to personally trade away there pick for last 4 yrs and bring people of like beal ( wash ), sexton ( cavs ) and Turner ( Ind ). but Orlando has only been beaten with the stupid stick.

I feel like you are missing a lot of context in this video. You’re basing a lot of these things on stat sheet. The team drafted poorly, but I can tell you know nothing about the magic. Before you make a 30 min video on a team you’ve never watched, do some more homework other than reciting draft express and basketball reference. Your reason for whether a player is good is entirely based on their stats none of their game
