The current state of basketball in the United States is just offense and little to no defense, people outside the US is more polished ,has more heart , and willing to what needs to be done on a team, take me for example I am from jamaica and I'm polishing my game to make it to nba someday
How many of the all defense players in the nba are foreign? And then we see when the us players other teams out the country they can’t stop them. Especially players at the college level really buy into defense and the average nba player defends. Nba offenses are just so advanced it’s hard to stop. I will admit other counties play more together though.
Curry shooting threes also has a negative effect on the game. You see kids pulling from way beyond, yet any of them have the shooting touch Curry does. Jalen Green and Mikey Williams are great examples of the social media stars. Jalen looked like he'd be an all star from day 1 in high school. Yet he's struggling so far in the league
@Neymar Jr Jalen green is the main bad example of this. Mikey not so much most of mikeys full games if you watch them he plays in control. And that’s the case for most high school players. I beg you guys to watch full college basketball games of the highest recruits they play well within the system and commit on defense.
I fell like this is one of the reasons why so many players respect Jrue Holiday. He isn’t a trash talker, he isn’t a flopper, he plays constantly elite defense… heck he has won games with defense using those late game steals to put the game out of reach. There is a whole video of NBA players calling Jrue the most underrated player in the NBA
Love me some Jrue Holiday (outside of the times he shoots his teams out of games lol). Dude is a super great guy to have on your team as his sole focus is to do what’s needed for the team success. Which I guess is why he’s a All Star this year due to him having to do that more this year
Was suprise to see him in the All-Star game(even though he deserves it, but then I realized the coaches vote on it and they know how good his defense is better than anyone Edit: I guess other than players 😂
that is what people do not fully capture when trying to mimic stephen curry. he is quite possibly the best cross country runner the nba has ever seen. kids do not try to replicate his off ball movement, his understanding of where the ball moves and where to create space, let alone his leadership and EGO-LESS, WINNING-BASED attitude. Yes, his dribbling and shooting looks pretty in a highlight reel. But there are layers to his game that get completely ignored, especially by casuals.
Exactly, we will never have another REAL Stephen Curry. People can have the deep range shooting, but when it comes to his impact as a player and for his team, NO ONE can have the gravity he has as a player where everyone fears him as soon as he crosses the half court line
the issue with curry is he is trying to prove to everyone that he can do that too. since everyone can hit 3s now. he is trying too hard to hit that game winning shot. that give me the ball let me score type thing i can do that too. that leads to turnovers. its not the best for someone like poole to learn from which results in poole having those same turnovers. it makes sense steph has a big ego he won it all. he just needs to put it aside and go back to basics. focus on winning games rather then showing off to the younger generation.
@@ishyameru6232 curry will always be in shape. but obviously he isnt aging like lebron is. his body movements are off. his elite shooting is hiding it though since he still makes the shot. but its defo different as he ages. this idea that curry is having a perfect season is false. he is shooting perfect but even pre injury his overall game has been affected since he relies on athletism more then casuals think.
For damn sure, even as a RUclipsr I am barely on mine LMAO! Never had a phone until I was in HS and didn't care for social media even at that age. Granted I was born in 99
@@Alvini_Linguine I’m 46. I wish you could know how it was before social media, internet, apps, etc. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate these things but I remember a time when life was just fine without them lol! I was 23 when you were born 🤣
This is why international players are dominating the league now. International players care more about the fundamentals and not the highlights that come with their play. It takes a bare minimum of discipline to keep your head in the game. For some reason, this new generation of ballers are only in it for the fame. Hopefully, they mature into individuals that care more about the value of winning games and championships.
i just wanna play basketball so i can help my team win, i don't get why sometimes they don't really set screens also they overdribble a lot instead of extending a play via passing, off ball screens... i watch a lot of film to study and it always confused me on why they don't playmake for their teammates. and half the time most of these defenses can often get picked off with off ball movement and hockey passing
International players are doing better because the game is more popular and is global now. Overall americans players are still better put a team of Americans vs the world americans still win. Overall, this whole highlight culture thing is overstated the only bad examples are those guys that end up playing in the g league like jalen green. Overall if U watch college games those guys hustle harder and play more together than most nba players including foreign ones
The highlight culture will not die out in the US simply because you need these highlights to be spotted and to continiue your path to college and the pros, while in Europe prospects are integrated in the mens teams at around 15-18 years old, if they are good enough. They know that they don't need to prove their worth to the world and can find their role on the court early on and contribute to winning.(Also in Europe you can't afford to lose, because your team will get relegated to lower division or lose revenue, if they underpreform, so players and coaches are under a lot more pressure to win.)
The European prospect really isn’t anything to be too impressed by. Picking only the top guys as your base is pretty unfair. Majority of the top players are still American born or American developed. American mixtape seems more apparent because we are in America.
@@MrSlashblade No oder country produces more basketball players than the US, including top players. In America there is more funding, better facilities and more participaion in the sport than anywhere else in the world. The point is that the european system of development has proved to offer a smoother transition to the pros and to produce more well rounded players, something that America lacks in recent years.
@@atp2404 easier to be “well rounded” when almost nothing sticks out. And for all the “great transitions” most of them don’t even know how to use their physical gifts. How many times was Porzingas called out for not really knowing how to use his 7’3” frame. It seems like a smooth transition because most of them are under the “project” label. But outside of Luka there’s been more instances of high drafted international prospects (Bender, Baragani, Rubio, Kanter, Valacunias, Hezonja) turned out to never hit any status even remotely close to their draft, and the guys who overexceed get significantly more time to learn how to play team basketball because their projection isn’t to be who the team relies on as 10th -50th overall picks. They have just smaller leash but more time to be trained say what you want Jalen Green I’d the 2nd overall pick he doesn’t get restrictions and his leash is long af. But we’ve seen more Americans with that long leash thrive then the two purely European based guys of Luka and Pau who didn’t need development period.
@@MrSlashblade Rubio and Valenciunas are leggit like wtf . They r not stars like in an american kind of way for sure but they r solid and contribuiting pieces . Jalen Green is on his way out u can have all the talent in the world but if u don't know how to use it what is it good for . The way the Rockets operate Green could definitely be a Wiggins 2.0 and at least Wiggins could defend the living shit out of u . For what i've seen so far there is little to no improvement in KPJ since his Cavs's days or Green's from his rookies ones. And fyi Pau gasol played severals years in Memphis before he was a Lakers so he did adjust to the game in the NBA . KuKoc with the Bulls was one of the more skilled players coming from Europeand he was bullied by MJ and that brought the best in him , for an european players it take luck basically to pan out in the league if u got drafted in a shit team u are fucked .
@@loicthiant7448 Rubio expectation was Spanish Magic, what Luka is (he’s Slovenian but you get what I mean) is what Rubio was suppose to be, being a solid piece is something you can find in the back of the lottery. Especially when he was in a draft with Steph Curry, And valanciunas at the 5th pick only became a solid piece in a draft with Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, and Jimmy Butler. But hey this is what Europe produced. Also I’m not going to let people revise history. Wiggins in Minnesota couldn’t defend, wasn’t a good playmaker, wasn’t an efficient scorer and could only just create his shot enough to hit 20 because somebody has to. His renaissance is just that, a renaissance, this wasn’t Wiggins and he was worse off then both Green and KPJ when he was in Minnesota I never said Pau didn’t play in Memphis, I said Pau was the only guy who you could argue was the best player on Memphis from day 1. Kukoc was still behind Scottie and it brought pretty much the worst of Kukoc. If we are basing what Kukoc did internationally and comparing it to the nba he did absolutely horrible. You shouldn’t be seen as a elite level European and your ceiling is really good sixth man. That’s like saying Markells Fultz was worth the first overall pick in hindsight.
Played AAU growing up...I knew something was wrong with youth basketball when my team was up 25 points one game in the 4th quarter but the other teams PG had a posterizing dunk and all people cared about on both teams & in the crowd was that dunk...it didn't matter that we won, as long as there was a highlight everyone was happy.
@Taylor poke yeah and thats probably the only exciting thing to happen all game.🤣🤣🤣 My lil cousin plays AAU and majority of the game is turnovers, sloppy defense, and just all-around boring until someone hit a step-back three or dunks. Wasn't like that when I was coming up, yeah we had highlights that we spazzed on, but teams played tough, gritty defense, crisp passing, and just an all-around entertaining game.
It’s funny u say that one of my buddies told me Greek freak doesn’t take late game shots i told him he does he said a LAYUP OR DUNK DOES NOT COUNT i said wtf u mean he said a three is more clutch than a layup, he goes on to say if u locked me up all game and he hit the game winning three on me , me locking him up doesn’t matter because everyone is going to talk about the three i hit in ur face i said well ig people are weird off a game winning three ur terrible performance goes out the window and i was very worried from there
I love the Jrue Holidays, the Alex Carusos, the Royce O’Neales and the Jose Alvarados for always being those guys that play team ball or do things that help the team more than the highlight reel.
I totally agree with you but at the same time it gives a lot of kids who aren’t bronny a chance to actually get exposer that they would’ve NEVER gotten before. I kinda respect investing in yourself.
Playing a role is very underatted these days, look at Patty Mills, he has a small role as a 3pt shooter off the bench for the Nets but in the Olympics for Team Australia his role changes to the 1st option scorer
Seriously, this is huge. Like, friggin Rudy gobert was the number one option for the French team. Sometimes, it's better to learn to be a role player first. Cause then you have a foundation to build off of, and your solo work becomes gravy instead of the thing keeping you afloat.
@@greyklopstock7155 another thing is they’re just not good enough to play like that in the NBA. Example Killian Hayes he was a great player in Europe but despite the pistons giving him the keys he couldn’t replicate that in the NBA and was one of the worst young players. He’s getting better now but it just goes to show the level the NBA is at compared to other leagues.
Truuuuu, “utility players” are no longer “cool” or worth trying to be by the younger generation.. they don’t understand that utility guys are usually the backbone of a team right after the star players..
Early on in the season Steve Kerr benched Kuminga because he wanted to chase highlights and didn’t involve his teammates. It basically took him a month to teach Kuminga to do the little things, and now he’s a staple rotation player by playing hard defense, making good reads, and cutting hard while still able to score from the post. The way intangibles are discouraged today is unbelievably sad for me because if I were to make a championship level team, I would always prefer someone like Danny Green more than Jalen Green or Lamelo
Perfectly said, he himself was a victim of it and he got exposed for it in the Gleague as he was playing against actual professionals and his stats showed that also. Being in GS is a blessing and a curse as you’ll have that right leash, but it’s for a good reason. Now if only #1 pick Wiseman can figure it out because he has ALOT of upside. Also we gotta give credit for Kerr helping out Wiggins after his time in Minnesota
@@Alvini_Linguine fr, seeing Kuminga now, you can just feel how different his mindset is. He'll lock a guy up on defense, grab a rebound, push it down the floor, and instead of trying to dunk on a guy with better position or losing his dribble, he'll kick it out to a shooter. Or when he runs offense sometimes from up top, Jonathan has just become so much smarter and is looking for the open guy more than for his own highlights. I think Wiggins has learned to become a completely different dude from a basketball perspective. He used to be literally the worst defender in the league by the numbers. Like, you basically shot the same percentage on Andrew Wiggins as you did wide open. And his scoring was just as bad. He'd get numbers, but they were HORRIBLY inefficient. Steve Kerr got Wiggins working in a system where his best skills had to be his spot up shooting and athletic defense. If you catch these guys at the right time, and they're willing to put in the work, you can become an impact player. But these kids just want to be on mixtapes and get clicks
It's proven over and over again that these ball dominant guards who put up massive numbers on inefficient shooting aren't capable of winning championships, and may even be detriments to their teams. L.A. instantly became title contenders after trading Russel Westbrook and only lost to a fundamental machine lead by a fundamental machine finally being healthy. Need I say more? And who was the other team in the Finals alongside the machine? The grit and grind underdogs from the scrap heap + Jimmy Butler, who all worked harder then their more talented opponents and thus were rewarded. Yes the public stuff has changed. But amidst all the yelling and screaming and partying over highlights and cool shit, the ones with the fundamentals and the heart of a champion are still winning. Michael Jordan was an anomally, an EFFICIENT ball dominant guard that put up massive numbers. But he also wasn't an idiot, he knew he needed another star and solid teammates and he also put winning above all else. Kobe was similar and although not as efficient as Jordan he was arguably even more competitive and that competitiveness lead him to be great *when it mattered.* He put up numbers because he thought he had to in order to win, and for parts of his career it was true. He didn't do it so he could be trending on social media or to look good for his next payday.
Never really thought about highlight culture being a problem for entire generations until this video but that's maybe because I'm European and we hardly glorify flashy plays out here. Good shit, keep it up!
Personally i’ve always felt like that a player shouldn’t even be getting media attention until they are 18. Some of these new dudes be getting celebrity type exposure from age 14-15 and you can’t tell me it doesn’t go to their head.
Absolutely, they are children. And children are inherently selfish and egotistical. Feed into that with social media and it only creates monsters (not in all cases, but we’ve seen what happens when someone gets too much fame too young)
but its always been like this...jason kidd was on the cover of magazines in the 9th grade...famous pic of him in sports illustrated lying on a bed covered in scholarship offers at 14
@@jonathansaunders6697Difference is that there wasn’t any social media during that time so there wasn’t anything to further boost his ego and stunt his growth as a player. He kept working. Plus he seemed to be more mature at 14 than alot of 17-19 year olds these days.
The more I grow older the more I realize the internet is the worst thing that happened to the world cause it’s basically ruining our perspectives and destroying human interaction as far as society, our culture here in America and relationships of all types
There's actual scientific data to support your claim. It's mass Psychosis. I read a paper in a Medical Journal that predicts A rise in cases of schizophrenia by 2050
I don't think so The advent of communication Getting information rapidly Transportation improvements And getting emergency news out greatly outweighs the few nuanced bad things that annoy us
Amazing content As an OG nba fan, and a European one, i want to add something Another aspect that makes the difference, and that was used to be prevalent in HS and College back in the day, is COACHING In Europe, no matter how hot of a prospect you are, the coach is still the man You got to be coachable, otherwise you are not going to play, AT ALL Now, and it started with AAU, this kids get too big for themselves REALLY early on, they bring people in the stands, money, endorsement so those coaches have NO AUTHORITY WHATSOEVER on them I get it, in the NBA also works like that, but, at least, you gotta get to that level end earn it And even then, situations like that can still put a player trajectory in danger (looking at you Trae Young) Spoiler alert: It's not going to get better, is going to get worse, way worse
Great point, good coaching isn’t exactly very prevalent nowadays since the players think they know best and the lack of coachability doesn’t help either.
This is one of the reasons I stopped watching the NBA. There’s others, but this is one of them. I just wanna see some good basketball with ball movement, hustle, mid range, and driving to the paint. Not a dude calling an iso then dribbling for 22 seconds then he chucks up a horrible 3 pointer
that’s why TEAM USA struggled some last year or 2. the style of play especially the lack of defense. i started watching Euro basketball bc its less flashy but good team basketball
What these kids don’t realize is that they can get a bag and have a SUPER long career in the NBA as a 6’4 to 6’8 guard or wing that plays defense and shoots catch and shoot threes.
people do realize that. just in this upcoming draft you have players like gradey dick and jordan hawkins who built their game in that exact mold and are gonna be lottery picks
Yes but how are they gonna get noticed to even make it to the league… that’s the big problem. To make it to the league you have to be seen by scouters and scouters are not going around trying to find the best rebounder or guy that makes steals lol
@@TheBengineerTV WYM yes they are 😭. Lockdown defenders who can shoot get scouted. But a huge factor is what teams you play for and whether scouts are looking at them.
@@1337b3nnyvav00mwhat he means is if everyone acted like a Bronze then no one stands out. Players can be looked at in three categories: Gold, Silver and Bronze. Yes Bronze is good but silver is better and while silver is better then bronze gold is the absolute best. You MJs, your Shaqs, your Duncan’s, your Kobe’s your Lebrons, your Steph’s they’re the Gold, then you have the Silvers like Scottie, Klay, Tony Parker, Gasol and so on and then you have the Bronze like a Danny green, a Alex Caruso, a Manu, a Jamal Crawford. I agree fundamentals are import but teams look for the bronze last and so do fans. No ones trying to hear about the 60th draft pick in the second round it’s about the top 10 maybe top 20. Basketball isn’t like the NFL because the nfl is truly a team sport where even having elite talent won’t guarantee you a ring but ONE player in the NBA can turn around a whole franchise and while role players are needed they’re never given credit and it’s unfair to act like fans care about them when they don’t, being a Bronze is good but what comes with it is being viewed as disposable a good hand your halo to have but you’ll be flipped with a few other bronze for maybe a silver or gold or draft picks
The Cons are all very true and I loved this video. The Pros of Social Media: -I see several ways for people who wouldn't ordinarily have exposure to gain it. -Ability to capitalize/monetize from your followers at an early age. Esp since American doesn't let people go pro at 16 -Access to more information. I will say that AAU also plays a huge role in the lowering of skill level and IQ, social media is a secondary effect of bad coaching plus highlight culture.
Thank you for the compliment. As as someone who's played in the AAU circuit, not alot of coaching, just alot of doing. I was lucky to play on a few teams who actually liked me personally and had good coaching to maximize everyone's skillset. But it's usually a waste of time unless you're looking to make a mixtape for the summer/spring
The cultural difference is seen at every level. Best Ex. was my pick up exp. In Brazil. When I played my first instinct was iso, but that got me yelled at. It's team ball there also they play wayy harder defense In the us every pick up game felt like it came straight from 2k park. Athletic/skilled players who don't know how to pass the ball. Those players are great don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if a local team here beats a 5v5 team there.
Nah, he came from Cameroon and I think started in the Us as a 9th grader. He’s the most Americanized out of the group tho 😂. He’s definitely showy, but still has that grind mindset as we can see from the development of his game
@@Alvini_Linguine i come from Europe and i played basketball till i was 17. When you try to get highlights in the game instead of playing normally you get subbed out and yelled tf out by your coach, so maybe that's one of the reasons why European players are no bullshit (to add to your point)
@@Alvini_Linguine know a lot of people from Cameroon, learning basketball in there…there’s a reason why their third best player is Luc Mbah a Moute who was originally their best player before Embiid and Siakam. Embiid got the same treatment as Thabeet did, found the tallest dude in the country and convince him to play basketball over soccer. Embiid is American developed
@mrslash blade Embiid wasn't supposed to be what he is today coming in. Those 2 first seasons when he was injured were the 2 important seasons as the Warriors won in 2015 and went 73-9. Embiid was supposed to be what Jahlil Okafor showed up to be but more raw in his execution on offense and the rebounding and defensive prowess of Nerlens Noel.
I'm so glad and happy OKC have staff, players & management that doesn't get blinded by the spotlight or social media, hats off to Sam Presti also Mark Daignault for building a foundation for their developement. The reason for the Thunder's rapid improving growth is because of how they can ignore all the fame and it is paying off for the future, they'll be an upcoming dynasty in the next few years cuz they play hard plus put a lot of effort in their training or practices, as you can see the result off it with how humble then down to earth each player is also being able to block the noise or shut off socials as a young team is impressive with how they avoid off court drama as well plus they are a defense first type of team that loves ball movement and spacing but can be physical if needed & the pace they mostly play is fast since their a young team after all It's everything you could want out of an young rebuilding team that's on the verge of competing and will be very soon be in contention for title runs, other young teams get so fixated getting paid a fortune to having luxurious/glamorous things and stat pad their numbers or go for highlight plays meanwhile OKC's youngsters are busy interacting with the community doing donations/charity work really amaze how they kept this as a tradition in this organisation, well done Clay Bennett.
I’m a Thunder fan but stopped watching when Russ left. I was probably more of a Russ fan, but I should start watching them again. I’ve heard they just play basketball. Not highlight ball which is amazing to me
My son played traveling and highschool 🏀. He wasn't the most gifted offensively but he was a lock down defender. He was literally one of maybe 2 kids who ever seemed interested in playing D. I remember him telling me how he was getting playing time over players who were better on offense but they didn't play D and weren't as coachable as him. Some kids hated him for it. The Coach valued kids that were coachable, who would listen, hustle and play some D. My son was one of those kids. We need more coaches like that.
I had a coach like that in middle school. I played on a top AAU team in my state just based on that alone. Couldn’t do anything with the ball in my hands but if the team needed defense/hustling/or energy I brought it 😂. It came to the point to where if I had a bad game where I wasn’t doing that he’d ask my parents if I had a bad week at school or something. Shoutout to Coach Q.
Love this take. I’ve been thinking the same thing but couldn’t explain it nearly as eloquently as you did. Bring back two way superstars like Giannis and Jayson Tatum !
It’s the same thing that happens in every aspect of our life. When people realize social media can help them they try their best to maximize attention.
It's not social media, it's a CULTURAL problem... You don't see any Hockey or Baseball acting like this! Call it like it is, hold communities accountable that promote this behavior, not that hard.
Well I know that. But considering this is a bball channel I can’t do that deep 😂 (i probably won’t be liked if I did that also 😭. We don’t like being held accountable)
@@Alvini_Linguine You just said it now... I don't understand why people are afraid to tell the truth? I could care less about offending people. Nothing is going to change (get worse) if people don't start talking reality and common sense.
@@connorgreen6801 I know my dude 😂😭. Sometimes you can draw a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Especially since I always get blowback IRL for telling the truth. I just do what I can, but again this personally ain’t the channel for it. Every once in a while I talk about issues like that (check out my video on the MVP debate for something like that) but in this case I didn’t want to bring it up
Something else to note is below the college level coaches are so expendable a majority of the time you just need one loud mouth parent willing to take the extra step to mess with someone’s livelihood Think this stays a problem for the foreseeable future just because basketball has grown so much to be a lot more casually accessible stuff like the 3rd graders being ranked and flexing on eachother is still seen as cute/harmless Basketball’s growth into a lucrative business has started to outweigh what basketball fundamentally is which is a competitive sport
Exposure has become an huge factor in today's sports, here in europe luckily the highlight culture hasn't affected basketball that much because, although very popular, it's not as popular as football where u can start to see the same problems the you mentioned. Some of this kids are extremely talented and naturally gifted but they just don't know how to play the damn game! The agents, the sponsorships and the fact the they are literally kids (15 is the minimum age to become a professional) doesn't help for their development as players or as adults
I’ve seen many videos on that subject in soccer. I can only imagine our problem with basketball is Europes problem with soccer. Extra salt in the wound with the 15 year old professional athletes too 😂😭
I agree with you. I have no choice but to root for Trae being a Hawks fan. Too many people disrespect foreign talent. Luka is the better player obviously, I just wish things were better for the Hawks, and that the league was balanced. Highlight Culture isn’t going away, so their should be a way to balance genuine basketball with occasional highlight culture.
Another thing to add is that the rate of short people mainly under 6foot making it to the league has just stopped so many players are being told their to short to make it any were in their career
right. and we view what a "guard or "forward" is today lol. Like when you say 6 feet or under in the league, i think to myself would Sebastian Telfair have a shot today?
Even though Isaiah Thomas proved that wrong teams still underestimate short guys they claim they’re a defensive “liability” in a league where no plays defense anymore
I been saying this was comin for 2 decades..when the youth level AAU stopped teaching positional basketball..all kids learn everything...the small man has been completely removed from modern basketball..all those classic point guards would never make the league today...the only way you can play NBA under 6'3 now is if you can shoot from half court modelled after steph, a la trae young; or finish at the rim with two hands modelled after rose and westbrook, al la ja morant
Social media is destroying, no, HAS destroyed most facets of society. That video with them little kids was super cringe bruh, I could never imagine anyone I know acting like that when we were young. Holy shit dude that was painful to watch.
I’m glad my parents were anti technology for me as a kid. I was always so confused in HS with people being so infatuated with things like Snapchat and all that. This shit straight up ruined us over time
The problem is that every spotlight is on the Lamelo Balls and the Jalen Greens of the world, and not on the Jrue Holidays and Mikal Bridges'. People who only watch highlights and not entire games.
What youngsters today don't seem to understand is that flashy players like Steph, Dame, and Kyrie spent countless hours honing their skill sets before they made the league. Austin is correct because kids are being told to showboat and flex in the name of getting a shoe deal instead of being told to learn the fundamentals of the game. Sneaker Brands are the biggest culprits in this deterioration because they are the ones fuelling this social media mix tape craze in the name of trying to lockup the next big thing.
I’m so happy that someone is actually talking about this topic, the purity of this sport is being destroyed by social media and “highlights” hell I can’t even play a normal pick up game in P.E without someone tryna shoot a contested shot or make horrible passes (senior year btw) it really sucks
Being able to market yourself is a gift and a curse. It's a gift to make it a lil easier to showcase your talent and possibly change your living situation. (most basketball players come from struggle) and I agree with everything you said on this video as well. So it's a double edge sword.
@@jameswright7851 Facts cus you watch all these documentaries and day in the life videos and they live in nice houses have access to equipment all that Even Dj Wagner whos from the most ghetto city Camden Nj is in a nice looking neighborhood in camden and his dad was in the NBA so he comes from privilege
Great video! I highly agree with the whole highlight culture, kids these days care more about dunking on someone and then taunting their opponents rather than making the effort to play sound basketball. Where's the defense? Where's the playmaking? All they care about is how do I make it to the league with my hoop mixtape?
We've been hearing about the "downfall of baskeball" since the early 2000s with those awful And`1 mix tapes. Same things people complain about players is what i heard back then too.. so this is nothing. Let these talentless kids have their moment, most don't even get to the D1 level anyways
Very true point, the more all around players end up succeeding or getting found out at the end. Ofc I was born in 99, so I can only speak from my own experience growing up 😂

100% agree. This social media age is leading to more and more guys who are going in the top 20 in their drafts being busts, guys like Mikey Williams seeming like greats prospects and slowly falling down the ranks, and players that seem like great prospects in HS and proceed to be average or even bad at the college level.
The same thing is happening with football. Everybody wants to be Neymar, Mbappe, or CR7. All they see are the step overs and not everything else that makes those players great.
Curious to see what comes of Mikey Williams. I'm not necessarily counting him out, but I was never sold on him cuz he not only developed early, but he's a also a whole year older than most kids in his class. 1 year makes a HUGE difference in high school. Kid garnered his notoriety as some super duper elite freshman, but he was more physically mature than most high school seniors lol. Being great in high school doesn't necessarily translate to the next level.
highlight culture has ruined defense bc for these kids it’s better to get out of the way and not get crossed or dunked on in someone else’s highlight reel than it is to actually try to learn to play good defense content for the highlight reels only comes on offense too, bc people don’t wanna watch defense.
People have been saying this since like the 50s. Modern basketball has been a long time coming fr That being said, I don't have a problem with kids getting more exposure thru mixtapes & all that. I just think parents need to be responsible about how their kids get & handle the attention
To be honest, Austin is a coaches son. To be extremely honest, he has what most of those kids don't have a 'Father'. With that said he's still spot on and 💯 Also keep in mind those Kids with videos are a lot of times actually professionals meaning they Make money off of their Views & Content. Mikey Williams is worth Millions. Like Julian Newman, if he doesn't make the league he'll be an influencer. You gotta hold Jake & Logan Paul accountable as well, for infusing sports and social media influence
So does that make Austin Rivers an 'old head' because he actually likes basketball and has the audacity to ask someone currently in their teens or 20s to have an attention span of a human being and not a gnat? Called an old head by the way by the same dummies that will tell you that the game is much harder to playing now that we're just jacking up threes and doing choreographed celebrations that we give names to. A 2005 San Antonio Spurs versus Detroit Pistons game that ended 89 - 88 was low-scoring because those guys just weren't as talented as today's athlete LOL bruh anything that wasn't filmed in high-definition is from 1000 years ago DUUUUURP.🤦♂️🤦♂️
what you said about pop is true he's american but i'm pretty sure has serbian and croatian roots and was one of the early pioneers of drafting overseas talent and making the game more team based e.g our 2014 team with parker , diaw , manu and splitter. even countries abroad like in france (INSEP) and australia (AIS) have national centres for the elite talent to develop their game better
I thought he was polish, he's made reference to it over the years. I'm not knowledgeable on European Culture What are your thoughts can you explain so I can understand better?
@@Peakfreud basically in the two sports i play mostly (football or what americans call soccer and basketball) but this also applies to other sports they have academies so if your the best in your city/area your local team e.g real madrid they will sign you to their youth program from however old you are at the time e.g 12 and they mainly run till u-21 or u-23. the main goal of them is to basically develop the players talent till they either a. think they are ready for the first team or b. they might not turn pro at the club but are good enough to get a pro contract somewhere else . two good examples are tony parker who was at INSEP which is basically where the best talent in france go to develop as players but also get educated (watch his doc for better detail) and luka doncic who joined madrid at 13 but was training with their b team till they thought he was ready for the pro game. Compared to aau basketball which is mostly let's give the ball to our best player and let him iso and get highlights which doesn't really teach any basketball in europe they teach you more of a motion and pass first offence like in the current season the highest ppg in euroleague is 18.7 so scoring is more spread out rather then heavy iso and top of the key P&R
jalen green and kevin porter on the rockets are prime examples of highlight hoopers and theyre lucky that they are in a organization that is in shambles. Given to a different team they would not be playing. This is prime example of why you should know basketball regardless how good you are. Theyre are few expections but you can legit be Jalen Green who jumps out this world and can score and is a reliable shooter but bruh is just a basketball player not an nba player. I hope the rockets get a good veteran willing to mentor them because I want to see those guys last in the league.
Instantly clicked instantly agreed social media runied everything as it is the fact that its effected basketball makes it way more terrible 💯 its just how it is in the world now everybody wants to be a somebody to any extent 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ everything is so photoshopped and photocopied with very little originality 💯
I hate how highlights run the NBA, but at the same time game are extremely boring nowadays because everyone just tries to copy what the warriors do. Whole lotta swing passes and PnR offense. Nothing interesting but highlights when everyone plays the same🤷♂️
Thank you for making this video and explaining this 🙏🏽 I was just thinking this. NBA fans have become so hooked one offensiveness that they don’t value hard work, good defense, and teams playing as teams. It’s one of the reasons as to why certain all star players just can’t mold together because they don’t know how to play team ball. I’be seen so many fans in my own team base talk trash about one of our best perimeter defenders just because he doesn’t get the highlight offense. It’s just strange.
There is no incentive now in any sport to play defense. Like in football you could be lock up a receiver the whole game but if he catches one pass on you, your getting clown the rest of the season. Same with basketball you can lock someone up all game but if they dunk on you or shoot a 3 in your face once your clowned. So there is no point in playing good d cuz it’s not rewarding
The problem is with the AAU. In Europe, we teach the fundamentals of the game, and the game is about the winning, not the individual stats and mixtapes.
Modern American basketball is turning into a money first mentality instead of it being about passion and accolades. Now it's only about the PERCEPTION of success
Shiiiit considering NIL deals now it’s sports in general in America. It used to be for the love of the game or getting your fam out of poverty. Now it’s a completely different scene
Steven A and whatever the white guys name is should be banned from talking about sports. I hate listening to them insult athletes as a job. At least when Barkley does it, it’s funny, not mean spirited, and he actually was a great athlete.
This is probably the best basketball video I’ve seen in like 3 yrs. great video because you’ve said what we’ve all been thinking and soon the end product of this is when internationals surpass you at olympics. they’ve already started individually with ppl like Giannis and Wemby
KPJ and Jalen Green are in for a rude awaking like John Wall said when they get a good coach or get traded to another team that expects more of them then just cool shots
My only problem with this take is that i'm pretty sure 90% of these mixtape kids don't get into the league. If they do they might stick around a few years getting bounced around from team to team and then into the g league where they either improve or end up out of the league period. It's like the common cold it's not enough of a sickness to justify complaining about the symptoms. I could see it becoming a problem if scouts stopped doing their jobs tho. Point is, the further in their career these mixtape kids go the more difficult it'll get if they don't adapt accordingly and won't make it in. I think it's pretty rare for those kinds of players to get in and actually stick without some level of improvement. On top of that i find it ironic that Austin "that guy" Rivers made it into the league and ended up being a solid back up pg i think that shows pretty clearly that being that guy in hs and getting a mixtape doesn't guarantee your spot or role in making it to the league.
I totally agree, but that also backs up his point that only top guys in the class really DESERVE a mixtape or whatever rather than anyone who can put up a highlight. If that makes sense
I really appreciate Austin Rivers points of view on this topic . AAU Basketball has actually helped Canada. Unfortunately it has killed High School Basketball and fundamentals . Absolutely no team Unity as well.
I think some great examples of the “real basketball” you discussed are Kevon Looney and GP2 on the championship warriors. They both rarely if ever took bad shots and they were the guys always diving for the ball on the floor, getting that steal out of the other players clutches, and fighting incredibly hard for every rebound. As a result of this they had a massive impact and even had the 2 highest +/- of the nba finals. Despite all of this they didn’t get as much praise as I think they deserved because they weren’t recording 15+ points or shooting contested 3s. For me this is the difference between the championship level teams and the “highlight teams” these role players willing to sacrifice their paydays, their fame, and their personal accolades for the better of the team is what modern highlight culture has made less highlighted but even more important.
They are complete impact guys, their games ain’t sexy, but they get the job done in the most efficient ways possible 💪. And like you said, it equaled to a championship. You can even add Wiggins to this after he went to GS completely changing his game
I do agree with a lot of the points however I would like to bring up the idea of "self-regulation". These mixtape players are not having as much success as more well-rounded players. Its consistent that players who mold themselves around just being flashy scorers and nothing else, do not make much legacy moves. Gerald green, trae young, jalen green, kpj, and so many many other players who are one-dimensional that dont have success show to others players that the way to succeed is to be more well-rounded. Being a phenom may get you into the nba but it wont keep you there. Andrew wiggins is a great example of becoming a more well-rounded player. Other young players see his success and how he adapted his game to be a much stronger and more versatile defender, and adjust. Sure, there is more hunting for great mixtape-type players, but legacies and wins dont come from that. NBA players notice this and I think they will adjust.
Highlight culture is what made the NBA popular…Jordan, Bird, Kobe, Lebron!! But now that same culture is killing the game…what do you do? Nothing..your screwed. 🤷
Austin rivers got his ranking because of his mixtape just like a lot of these guys. And he was a bust too. People think dunks and flashy plays are all that matters until they get to the nba and everyone can do it.
“Back then u had to put in work” lol OR have a dad who was in the nba lol I think these tapes are good cuz it gives folks exposure who wouldn’t have had it if they ain’t have a NBA DADDY to save them lol
Well, mumble rap is succeeding and lyricism is a thing of the past as per these mumble rappers. They don't care about lyrics, as long as they get the chicks, dr ugz and $$$. Oh wait... sorry... forgot this is about basketball.
@@Alvini_Linguine sorry man I was just playin… but it’s kinda like the same thing in a way. I’d still like real bball… it’s essence and not all the grandstanding shizz, the highlight culture and all that’s happening nowadays.
ppl in the comments are so whiny but keep in mind thanks to the internet we got to see many prospects who were in rural or bad conditions make it to the nba. those who worry about highlight culture, the more HS stars come to the nba and underperform and be labelled as busts, next gen will think twice about making flash first basketball vids.
Wiggins issue wasn't being a scorer only. It was that he wasn't an elite scorer who could get buckets in crunch time, demand a double and make teammates better. Think of Kawhis evolution because Wiggs came in with highly O and potential on D. So Kawhi in reverse 🤔
I totally agree with your take on SM affecting basketball. You honestly can go above and beyond and pretty much conclude that it’s been affecting high school athletes period. And it will continue to affect younger generations after us. SM is something I will def remove or to the very least monitor with my children
I think valuable points were made in this video, but I think a major point that gets overlooked when talking about why a lot of these internet phenoms do not properly develop and why the league could be headed down a poor path is the trend of tanking and pick hoarding. So many of these high valued picks get put in situations where they go to losing cultures that value the future stars more than building around a potential star player. They want to have a team full of high valued players and then when they dont work out, they ship them off for more picks and continue the trend. Those type of teams, like the Rockets, are as much to blame for poor culture in the NBA as the players themselves are.
Trash talk. It has accelerated from friendly banter, to hateful, where little kids think they have to do it. The game and it's players are debased by it.
Yeah he’s truly about to hurt himself one day on the court and off the court (iykyk). Other players with hyper athleticism even say they gotta be more conservative in the NBA with their hops for saftey
Embiid formation was entirely in the US, he started playing at 16. When he came into the league he had nothing except athleticism, in a sense he got the better of his 2 years injury break because that is when he worked on his fundamentals. It did not humble him enough though, since he is kind of a crybaby that will threw his teamates unders the bus after a defeat which Giannis or Jokic would never do.
Yep, but we don’t talk about that 😂. Even as a black dude who didn’t grow up in that I definitely stuck out like a sore thumb because I didn’t grow up the same way as them.
@@Alvini_Linguine don't get me wrong I love all types of music, from Jeezy, Gucci, Dipset to Nas, Kendrick and Uzi. One thing I understand is that it's just music/entertainment and not my reality at all. These kids don't see that
@@Blingblow_779 yeah exactly. I’m a huge Kanye enjoyer and like rap in general (not much modern day stuff) but alot of these kids allow themselves to get sucked into the lyrics and start internalizing it all into their core personalities. Which is sad
LaMelo Ball is the player Austin Rivers didn't want to mention. I honestly don't think he cares about winning as a number one priority. As long as he gets a flashy highlight every game, he's happy. Good for the other 29 teams though. As long as he's not on my team, he can keep laying bricks Mr. 54% true shooting.

I see your point and I agree but I still have my own opinions but I'm not biased
Which I guess is why he’s a All Star this year due to him having to do that more this year
@@Alvini_Linguine Idk if there is a team that wouldn’t benefit from getting Jrue Holiday. Best defensive Point Guard in the league according to KD
Was suprise to see him in the All-Star game(even though he deserves it, but then I realized the coaches vote on it and they know how good his defense is better than anyone
Edit: I guess other than players 😂
Jrue and Kris Middleton are the definition of pure hoopers. not glitz no glam, not always in the media most importantly are reliable
That steal in the 2021 finals pretty much won the bucks the series
that is what people do not fully capture when trying to mimic stephen curry. he is quite possibly the best cross country runner the nba has ever seen. kids do not try to replicate his off ball movement, his understanding of where the ball moves and where to create space, let alone his leadership and EGO-LESS, WINNING-BASED attitude.
@@johnmarkson1990 I disagree but I get where you're coming from
The crazy part is people look at Lebron and they recognize how much work he puts into his body but it's rare for Curry to be acknowledged
Social media has had an ugly influence on the whole world not just basketball.

This is why international players are dominating the league now. International players care more about the fundamentals and not the highlights that come with their play. It takes a bare minimum of discipline to keep your head in the game. For some reason, this new generation of ballers are only in it for the fame. Hopefully, they mature into individuals that care more about the value of winning games and championships.
well said
i just wanna play basketball so i can help my team win, i don't get why sometimes they don't really set screens also they overdribble a lot instead of extending a play via passing, off ball screens... i watch a lot of film to study and it always confused me on why they don't playmake for their teammates. and half the time most of these defenses can often get picked off with off ball movement and hockey passing

@@lifeofsui3864 ???? yeah i'm not in the nba its why i watch film to develop my game and to learn how to make my team better
Especially when he was in a draft with Steph Curry,
And valanciunas at the 5th pick only became a solid piece in a draft with Kemba Walker, Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, and Jimmy Butler. But hey this is what Europe produced. Also I’m not going to let people revise history. Wiggins in Minnesota couldn’t defend, wasn’t a good playmaker, wasn’t an efficient scorer and could only just create his shot enough to hit 20 because somebody has to. His renaissance is just that, a renaissance, this wasn’t Wiggins and he was worse off then both Green and KPJ when he was in Minnesota
I never said Pau didn’t play in Memphis, I said Pau was the only guy who you could argue was the best player on Memphis from day 1.
Well because it was a good highlight
@Taylor poke yeah and thats probably the only exciting thing to happen all game.🤣🤣🤣 My lil cousin plays AAU and majority of the game is turnovers, sloppy defense, and just all-around boring until someone hit a step-back three or dunks. Wasn't like that when I was coming up, yeah we had highlights that we spazzed on, but teams played tough, gritty defense, crisp passing, and just an all-around entertaining game.
It’s funny u say that one of my buddies told me Greek freak doesn’t take late game shots i told him he does he said a LAYUP OR DUNK DOES NOT COUNT i said wtf u mean he said a three is more clutch than a layup, he goes on to say if u locked me up all game and he hit the game winning three on me , me locking him up doesn’t matter because everyone is going to talk about the three i hit in ur face i said well ig people are weird off a game winning three ur terrible performance goes out the window and i was very worried from there
Nice job making this about you.

I love the Jrue Holidays, the Alex Carusos, the Royce O’Neales and the Jose Alvarados for always being those guys that play team ball or do things that help the team more than the highlight reel.
Alvarado was always that guy in Georgia Tech. He's that gritty guy you need on the court.

Playing a role is very underatted these days, look at Patty Mills, he has a small role as a 3pt shooter off the bench for the Nets but in the Olympics for Team Australia his role changes to the 1st option scorer
Perfect analogy. I called him the Micheal Jordan of Australia because that dude was doing WHATEVER he wanted in Fiba and the Olympics 😂

Lamelo is a smart player to be fair

As an OG nba fan, and a European one, i want to add something
Another aspect that makes the difference, and that was used to be prevalent in HS and College back in the day, is COACHING
In Europe, no matter how hot of a prospect you are, the coach is still the man
You got to be coachable, otherwise you are not going to play, AT ALL
Now, and it started with AAU, this kids get too big for themselves REALLY early on, they bring people in the stands, money, endorsement so those coaches have NO AUTHORITY WHATSOEVER on them
I get it, in the NBA also works like that, but, at least, you gotta get to that level end earn it
And even then, situations like that can still put a player trajectory in danger (looking at you Trae Young)
Spoiler alert:
It's not going to get better, is going to get worse, way worse
Great point, good coaching isn’t exactly very prevalent nowadays since the players think they know best and the lack of coachability doesn’t help either.
This is one of the reasons I stopped watching the NBA. There’s others, but this is one of them. I just wanna see some good basketball with ball movement, hustle, mid range, and driving to the paint. Not a dude calling an iso then dribbling for 22 seconds then he chucks up a horrible 3 pointer
You watch Euroleague now?
Dj Wagner is the perfect example of not caring about the social media hype he's gonna have a spectacular career in college and in the league
that’s why TEAM USA struggled some last year or 2. the style of play especially the lack of defense. i started watching Euro basketball bc its less flashy but good team basketball
its also cause our top players refuse the invitation
@@Mrabad88cause they either cant or dont want to play together. Exactly cause they’re selfish
You gotta have the desire to put in that work tho ..
The Pros of Social Media:
-I see several ways for people who wouldn't ordinarily have exposure to gain it.
-Ability to capitalize/monetize from your followers at an early age. Esp since American doesn't let people go pro at 16
-Access to more information.
It's team ball there also they play wayy harder defense
In the us every pick up game felt like it came straight from 2k park. Athletic/skilled players who don't know how to pass the ball. Those players are great don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if a local team here beats a 5v5 team there.
de onde tu e meu pacero
You have to exclude embiid from your argument, he's been playing in the us since he was 14/15
Nah, he came from Cameroon and I think started in the Us as a 9th grader.
@@franekretek4436 that happens to everyone
The reason for the Thunder's rapid improving growth is because of how they can ignore all the fame and it is paying off for the future, they'll be an upcoming dynasty in the next few years cuz they play hard plus put a lot of effort in their training or practices, as you can see the result off it with how humble then down to earth each player is also being able to block the noise or shut off socials as a young team is impressive with how they avoid off court drama as well plus they are a defense first type of team that loves ball movement and spacing but can be physical if needed & the pace they mostly play is fast since their a young team after all
It's everything you could want out of an young rebuilding team that's on the verge of competing and will be very soon be in contention for title runs, other young teams get so fixated getting paid a fortune to having luxurious/glamorous things and stat pad their numbers or go for highlight plays meanwhile OKC's youngsters are busy interacting with the community doing donations/charity work really amaze how they kept this as a tradition in this organisation, well done Clay Bennett.
Yup I love my team from the top down ⚡ ⚡
I’m a Thunder fan but stopped watching when Russ left. I was probably more of a Russ fan, but I should start watching them again. I’ve heard they just play basketball. Not highlight ball which is amazing to me
They’ll never win
So happy to be a thunder fan
I hope Steven Adams comes back before he retires
Seems like we need more players like your son
Love this take. I’ve been thinking the same thing but couldn’t explain it nearly as eloquently as you did. Bring back two way superstars like Giannis and Jayson Tatum !
Thank you for the compliment 🙏

They finna call him racist if he does that. I wouldn’t go there just cause that’s a lost cause.
Ngl I feel like you make the best basketball videos on RUclips. I always find myself binging your content.
Thank you, I try my best to make the best videos I can. Glad to see you enjoy it 😁
Something else to note is below the college level coaches are so expendable a majority of the time you just need one loud mouth parent willing to take the extra step to mess with someone’s livelihood
Think this stays a problem for the foreseeable future just because basketball has grown so much to be a lot more casually accessible stuff like the 3rd graders being ranked and flexing on eachother is still seen as cute/harmless
Basketball’s growth into a lucrative business has started to outweigh what basketball fundamentally is which is a competitive sport
Even though Isaiah Thomas proved that wrong teams still underestimate short guys they claim they’re a defensive “liability” in a league where no plays defense anymore
because they get hunted on defense
@@yerrrrrrrr4567it’s dudes out here 6’6 getting hunted on defense.
Nah thats bullshit a lotta these famous ranked players come from middle to upper middle class backgrounds

Great video! I highly agree with the whole highlight culture, kids these days care more about dunking on someone and then taunting their opponents rather than making the effort to play sound basketball. Where's the defense? Where's the playmaking? All they care about is how do I make it to the league with my hoop mixtape?
The clout chasers are the worst.

Nah, its never that, more of a showcase season more than anything
If you guys want to see how true this is.... Just look at the Rockets with Jalen Green and KPJ. Those 2 are the definition of Highlight Hoopers.
Facts Jalen Green been raised & groomed to be that though
Watching Jalen Green and Kpj play is torture, no fundamentals whatsoever.
Tell me about it 😂😭
We've been hearing about the "downfall of baskeball" since the early 2000s with those awful And`1 mix tapes. Same things people complain about players is what i heard back then too.. so this is nothing. Let these talentless kids have their moment, most don't even get to the D1 level anyways
Very true point, the more all around players end up succeeding or getting found out at the end. Ofc I was born in 99, so I can only speak from my own experience growing up 😂
@@Alvini_Linguine i'm 40 so i remember that early 2000s rush of iso heavy wanna be MJs and it was brutal lol. Those And1 tapes were even worse bcz it was trash, Globtrotters basketball. Houston is an anomoly, 2 players desperate in need of a tough vet to set them straight and the team isn't providing it. it's setting them up for failure with bad habits
And it reflected in the Ballon d'Or...
Yet most of these highlights players are way better than Rivers
Curious to see what comes of Mikey Williams. I'm not necessarily counting him out, but I was never sold on him cuz he not only developed early, but he's a also a whole year older than most kids in his class. 1 year makes a HUGE difference in high school. Kid garnered his notoriety as some super duper elite freshman, but he was more physically mature than most high school seniors lol. Being great in high school doesn't necessarily translate to the next level.
highlight culture has ruined defense bc for these kids it’s better to get out of the way and not get crossed or dunked on in someone else’s highlight reel than it is to actually try to learn to play good defense
content for the highlight reels only comes on offense too, bc people don’t wanna watch defense.
People have been saying this since like the 50s. Modern basketball has been a long time coming fr
That being said, I don't have a problem with kids getting more exposure thru mixtapes & all that. I just think parents need to be responsible about how their kids get & handle the attention
This is what happened to Rap music as well, Big Krit should be way more popular than Lil Pump. Like come on 😂😂😂😂
To be honest, Austin is a coaches son.
To be extremely honest, he has what most of those kids don't have a 'Father'.
With that said he's still spot on and 💯
Also keep in mind those Kids with videos are a lot of times actually professionals meaning they
Make money off of their Views & Content.
Mikey Williams is worth Millions.
Like Julian Newman, if he doesn't make the league he'll be an influencer.
You gotta hold Jake & Logan Paul accountable as well, for infusing sports and social media influence
USA basketball = entertainment
World Basketball = Pure Sports
It’s crazy how much Social Media ruined everything that was once genuine😂😂😂
Too much 2K. It’s all about taunting and celebrations.

Austin rivers just said every single thing I complain about daily about kids today and the state of the game.

Black hype culture took over bball and it killed it
what you said about pop is true he's american but i'm pretty sure has serbian and croatian roots and was one of the early pioneers of drafting overseas talent and making the game more team based e.g our 2014 team with parker , diaw , manu and splitter. even countries abroad like in france (INSEP) and australia (AIS) have national centres for the elite talent to develop their game better
I thought he was polish, he's made reference to it over the years.
I'm not knowledgeable on European Culture
What are your thoughts can you explain so I can understand better?

Exactly how I feel
I hate how highlights run the NBA, but at the same time game are extremely boring nowadays because everyone just tries to copy what the warriors do. Whole lotta swing passes and PnR offense. Nothing interesting but highlights when everyone plays the same🤷♂️
That is what we like to call, “following the meta” they found a exploit to the old meta and now everyone is doing it 😭
The rockets need to bring in a veteran leader who can come off the bench and mentor them like CP3 when he’s off the suns contract, or Mike Conley.
The modern all-star game is the embodiment of this style of basketball
Agreed
This aged well, Mikey’s done as far as NBA at this point
You can even add Wiggins to this after he went to GS completely changing his game
i absolutely hate to see 3rd graders actingl ike that man, kills the sport for real.
Highlight Culture in the NBA is unserious
Also so much for Mikey Williams’s career. Smh idk why mfs wan be into street shit. Especially kids who came from money
Very very very well said 👍💪
Take trae young out of this he would’ve made an nba finals if not for injury😂. Been an all star caliber player for years now
trae young???
Great content. Its about time some one says it, especially coming from you who is a content creator and once a hooper.
This is why Kobe loved the international game & had disdain for AAU
Highlight culture is what made the NBA popular…Jordan, Bird, Kobe, Lebron!! But now that same culture is killing the game…what do you do? Nothing..your screwed. 🤷

He was the 41st pick
Austin rivers got his ranking because of his mixtape just like a lot of these guys. And he was a bust too. People think dunks and flashy plays are all that matters until they get to the nba and everyone can do it.
I've been saying this for years . And predicted this . Folks told me I was crazy. The game is broken .

This is why the international players be destroying the American players. Ballers from overseas are so fundamentally sound.
Jalen Green plays like he's on an AAU team, the Rockets don't have a system, it's like they want him to get better on his own
Trash talk.
It has accelerated from friendly banter, to hateful, where little kids think they have to do it. The game and it's players are debased by it.
Ja Morant Shud be in this video, that boy don't play safe, we don't want to see another Derrick rose
Yeah he’s truly about to hurt himself one day on the court and off the court (iykyk). Other players with hyper athleticism even say they gotta be more conservative in the NBA with their hops for saftey
basketball has become “reality” TV
Embiid formation was entirely in the US, he started playing at 16. When he came into the league he had nothing except athleticism, in a sense he got the better of his 2 years injury break because that is when he worked on his fundamentals.
It did not humble him enough though, since he is kind of a crybaby that will threw his teamates unders the bus after a defeat which Giannis or Jokic would never do.
Social media and musics influence on young black men/women lol.
@@Alvini_Linguine just realized this your video. Good stuff 👌🏾
