- The Deserved Downfall of The Phoenix Suns
Some downfalls are sad to see and others are satisfying and I think if you ask most people they'd say it's great to see. Everyone hates this team and likes seeing this happen. Now with Phoenix coming back with the same core maybe this will be the year.

it didn’t take a genius to see this coming after the KD trade. lost so much youth, depth, draft picks and he’s mid 30s aged player near the end of his prime. The Beal trade and contract was the final nail in the coffin.
I bet KD demands a trade halfway through the next season
Anyone else read his, 'final nail in the coffin' comment in the NBA Jam voice?
Excuse me? Everyone in the starting of playoffs were picking them to advance, if not deep playoff run. They finished to season on a streak and avoided play-in. They collapse. Thats what happened. Thats what you get if you trust a guy like Booker and KD.
@@farukguney6894 exactly, hindsight is 2020

Suns fan here, never wanted the KD trade and I'm sad to see how far the suns have fallen.
I can’t lie as a mavs fan before y’all was gone I was hoping to meet in the WCF
Well, the new man wanted to make a new splash, I guess the GM just had to listen to pull the trigger.
Real
What do you think about the owner? Most fans are dying for an owner who will spend, but some say he's too aggressive.
Bring back MB and cam!!! KD is a clown
The team they had that lost to the Bucks was obviously their best team. They ended up screwing that up and taking ten steps back. The greatest and most powerful enemy you'll ever encounter in your life, is yourself.
And Monty Williams inability to make adjustments, which this video also failed to mention.
That Suns team was one of the few that benefited from Covid just throwing a wrench into everything.
that same team lost to Luka
@@brandonschannel4267 yeah, Monty is a good coach who can help raise a team's floor, provide structure and a good system. The problem is once the talent level evens out and adjustments need to be made, that's where the great coaches often separate themselves and Monty always fell short. He can raise a floor but you also have a limited ceiling with Monty.
Traded 4 starters from 2021 team...all missed playoffs this year.
I will forever hate Ryan McDonough for passing on Luka
Made sense at the time
@@isaiahmohi455 no it didn’t especially once we hired his coach
That was all Sarver. He had the connection to U of A.

This hurt but I 100% agree. I feel like I need a hug now…. Bruh….
Trauma bonding as suns fans stand UP.
Spex doesn't remember the suns were in the finals in 1976
🫂
The Suns took a massive L in a Ayton trade. Ayton was used as a easy scapegoat for their failures in the playoffs, and as a result was chased out of town and replaced with a far inferior player in Nurkic.
The suns took a loss on the finals, then took a tough loss to a solid Mavericks team and decided to completely change everything!! Rather than a small change here or there they made wholesale changes to a winning formula, now have to completely rebuild. IMO the sooner the better, get all these guys out of here and get the picks back take it as a lesson learned Ishbia. Don’t play owner/GM and when you have a good thing don’t sell the farm for a shiny new toy
If Ishbia is calling the shots, it’s not gonna get better, they won’t rebuild
Matt gets the hate but let’s not forget Book and KD planned this team up in the Olympics!
Why KD wanted out
Never felt that team that lost to Dallas was good enough to win a title. They had finishers but not guys that can get their own buckets or be playmakers, which you need in the playoffs. They were entirely reliant on a past his prime, 36/37 year old Chris Paul, who had to do too much. They had a tough time just getting by New Orleans. Their bench was weak, when Bismack Biyombo is playing playoff minutes thats a major red flag. Great regular season team not built for the playoffs.
Without kd trade.. suns would worse than gsw.. espn would be saying booker needs to leave for new york
I wouldn't call the Mavericks team solid, they were complete garbage if it wasn't for Luka putting on masterpieces the Suns would've won. Remember we had Dwight as a starter which is embarrassing, Dorian who is a okay defender but we had Reggie who was complete garbage just look at his stats now, Jalen Brunson wasn't near his current state now and we had Spencer Dinwiddie who was solid but regardless we just had a trash team.
Kevin Durant just wants to hoop, he doesn't want to lead.
He wants to win championships without having to be a leader
@@Bobobo-bo-bo-bobobohe wants to score. I hate this owner more than any owner ever. He only cares about ratings.

I remember drinking a milk tea during that game 7. Never has a beverage tasted so sweet 😭
as a Mavs fan the mavericks really just made their team die lol
Leting Dragic go was a huge mistake too
Damn as a mavs fan I had no idea how badly we torched yall still feeling the effects of Luka 😭
Lmao Luka still Devins and The Suns child. Mavs stay treating a playoff series win like its their own personal ring. Guess you have to lean on that when Luka never even smelled a Finals 💀💀💀

@@coldcreative4601you wanna keep talking about Luka never making the Finals? Okay. Keep saying that while you still can. Time's running out 😂😂
@@coldcreative4601as a fan of the Buck (I have no dog in this fight) saying that Luka’s record against the Suns is bad isn’t a great comparison since the Suns haven’t really looked like a true contender since Luka beat them, and it’s not like they’re struggling with injuries or anything. They’ve had a healthy team in the playoffs the last three years from my understanding
no lie devin booker might retire without a ring

I’m not a Book fan I actually don’t like the dude but tbh that wasn’t him. The media thrust that upon him. Yeah he got the “Be legendary” tat but that’s cuz Kobe was one of his heroes and that one thing Kobe said to him inspired him to be the best version of HIMSELF! It was the media that ran away with that narrative. And if I’m not mistaken I think after a while Book was trying to distance himself from it.
Again not a Book fan but just trying to be fair here.
The way they betrayed Monty and Chris Paul they deserve this. I hated when they traded for Kevin Durant tbh. I didn't think he was going to elevate them at all. You need a complete team.

Barkley Era : Success but not enough to win a championship.
Jason Penny Era : A Fail Experiment with constand injuries and oncourt problems.
Nash Amar'e Marion Era : Untimely injuries and plays .
Present Day : 2021 Finals and disappointing seasons.
Nash era might be the closest to win a finals series but the depth on the West during mid 2000's is no joke
Another baby
Possible but not close enough to defeat against the spurs , if not dirty plays and suspensions.
That finals series was just devastating & I’m not even a suns fan… I woulda bet the house on suns to close it out after they were up 2-0
You shoulda known. Past the 1st round, literally every team that was up 2-0 ended up losing the series.
Bro Suns in 4 will forever fucking haunt me
The feeling of being up 2-0 in the Finals, before the downfall, is something I'll never forget.
Losing 4 straight after dominating the first 2 games was nasty work, I would look at that as a meltdown.
I remember that 2004-2005 Sun teams should have been playing the Pistons in Finals if it wasn't for that Robert Hory incident they we a great offensive team to watch play
You're right. The dirty Horry incident led to multiple suspensions that killed Phoenix and took their momentum. There's nothing like being rewarded for poor sportsmanship.
Didn't that happen in 06-07?
@tobi5988 Yea, I guess you're right. The Sun's just lost to the Spurs in 2005 Western Conference Finals. The Robert Horry hip check on Nash happened in the conference semis in 2007 still a great Sun's team.
that's 2007 yall facing the cavs
This brings tears to my eyes watching my greats suns fall from greatness and stay down forever then come back to be dismantled and be back in the dirt
Well said. I'm sad and the late great Connie Hawkins is turning in basketball heaven.
This the type a shit I'm on rn
I disagree about your thoughts the Ishbia moves.
Chris Paul was past his prime as proven by his stint in the warriors, Ayton was a diva as seen in Portland, mikal and Cam Johnson are fine players but even now Brooklyn is discussing moving them, and Monty just coached the longest losing streak in NBA history.
Culture can only take you so far and maybe that’s what budhenholzer can bring back with an emphasis on winning basketball.
CULTure...
We'll nvr know but only ayton really had to go.. the 2021 & 22rosters had great chemistry as a whole that was stronger than the separate pieces. Vogel, Kd & beal nvr had a chance to recreate it
Chris Paul was the leader they needed. KD is too passive. CP3 - Past his prime or not, they needed someone with heart and can push the team. Like it or not the Suns needed a PG as well.
Literally, 13 new body’s with injuries in the szn , played against the worst matchup (even tho I was blinded by the 3-0)
The issue is certain players play better together such is team chemistry. They blew up the chemistry and lost their leader in paul. Booker is a good player but he wasn't ready to lead the team. KD is a great player but he's not a great leader. Some people aren't great leaders and that's fine. You give away your whole depth for KD and expect 3 people who can't lead to bring the team further than one that had a proven chemistry
As a Suns fan if they traded Beal, Durant, and even Booker tomorrow for draft picks I would be happy. Understanding it'd be near impossible with Durants age and Beals lack of value, Booker is the only ideal candidate. I'd like to see him go to New York to play with Brunson. Need to hit the reset button and not wait 6 years before we start rebuilding.
I've been saying this as well, as much as it hurts to say. A lot of fellow suns fans don't agree about blowing it up. But honestly it's the only way out
Beals contract is too huge for trading lol
@@beef2503Plus Beal still has a No Trade Clause in his contract so he would have to lift it in order for the Suns to trade him lol

“The Deserved Downfall” is a crazy title bro has a lifelong grudge against the Suns😭
The whole 2021 season and playoffs was something that didn't serve anyone for anything. Maybe the Bucks surviving for it, but everyone else just got beaten down and injured. Short off season, condensed schedule was a recipe for disaster. And Phoenix acted like they won something when they didn't win squat. Even the playoff wins were against depleted teams. It gave them a big head and haven't recovered from that since. No sense of humility and hunger anywhere to be seen... And until they eat a big piece of humble pie, they won't get anywhere...
spex as a suns fan my self i loved the video you did a great job the video the tone everything u have a lot of petencial keep pushing
The sun should never got rid Williams, Chris Paul and Andre Aiden
HUH? as a outsider of Suns fan they had to get rid of Chris Paul who was falling off, Andre didn't even like playing basketball anymore and hated his team, I don't know anything about Williams however. What the Suns shouldn't have done is get rid of their starters like Mikal.
Love the way you put this together bro, keep grinding you’re onto something. Plus you sound like jimmy which is an added bonus 😂
I’m a die hard Suns fan and Phoenix native. The team that was disassembled peaked and it was time to move on. Idk what nation media coverage people are on but here in Phoenix we all knew that team reached its potential.
Getting Beal was the mistake. 4-5 role players was the formula
Went from making the final to an absolute embreasment of a nba team
they said the same thing about minnesota last year, the gobert trade was terrible.......they brought back the same team this year and many picking them to go all the way......what a difference a year makes.......as a suns fan, the durant trade was a mistake, getting rid of young homegrown guys and all the picks ruined it for me, lost the connection to the team for me, just hired guns now
I literally stopped watching my suns after that trade. After ayton monte beef I just gave up
All of this wouldn’t have happened if he just allowed double teams in open gym.

Great video and I loved your script. But please man my ears are hurting from that sharp high pitched cut sound effect it played like 8 times
They really traded their whole young core for older guys you never trade young promising players for players that are almost out of their prime
What’s the music you used in this video?
It’s all from epidemic sound :)
Thanks :)
Excellent video. It's crazy to see their defense and ball movement gone once Mikael and CP3 left the team. On the next video, can you do the Undeserved Downfall of the Knicks. The organization was slowly building a legit team with different underrated moves on and off season for the past few years and then during this year's playoffs with Julius Randle already gone, the Knicks players started dropping one by one due to random injuries beginning with Embiid pulling Mitch Robinson's leg during the series with the Sixers and ending in a Game 7 against the Pacers with Jalen Brunson's fractured hand. If the Knicks would have made it to the ECF or possibly the Finals, they would have been doing it with a really depleted roster. The injuries turned them from contenders to underdogs.
Mind you we’re talking about a 6th seeded suns team that had over 40 wins lol saying words like “downfall” and “failure” but then the same people turn around and talk about the 9th seeded lakers like they were the 1st seed smh make it make sense.
Suns fan here, I knew we would go down once KD came. We should've kept chris paul and jae crowder. I really want to see Devin get a ring.
Ishbia makes Sarver look good
If Ishbia was smart, he would have asked the public via poll or have one of his people do it whether they prefer to keep Bridges and Johnson vs bring KD in for those guys. I am sure Bridges and Johnson would have won. He could have just traded Cp3 and Ayton to improvise the team.
No worries Phoenix, im taking my talents to you come free agency in my 2k 💪💪💪
In fairness, they didn't know about the new CBA until April 1, 2023, after the KD trade was made.
However, they did know about the new rules when they traded for Bradley Beal.
They are once again a 2nd Apron team, and worse, the new stricter rules kick in.
The music this boi use is HEAT
When the Suns big 3 was announced last summer i knew it would fail. I love this team but man we've made so many shit decisions its not even funny.
Suns fan here, said it from the start trading away Mikal and Cam two players close to Booker in age for Durant was Idiotic. But then again I also said we should have drafted Doncic over Ayton. Then again I also hate UA with a solid passion so I’m biased.
You forgot to mention the 89-90 Suns that my Blazers barely beat in WCF. The KJ, Chambers, Hornbeck and Marley team was a Contender for 3 years before Barkley.
They were right there in the finals up 2-0 so close... but instead of adding pcs they sent a key player in crowder home & it was downhill from there
Who could forget the 3 pointer from Mario Eli of the Houston Rockets....
The infamous KISS OF DEATH...
The KD trade was a great trade. The Suns only lost due to a depleted bench last postseason (was the only team to push the champions to 6 games in spite of that). This year, it was bad coaching.
They didnt let Monty get a full year with the roster (likely because they intended to keep Ayton) and they hire Frank. Frank was hired to work with Ayton, but Ayton didnt want to stay. The team was already stuck with Frank at that point, so they rode it out.
Suns did it to themselves. "Everybody talks Sh-t when they up"
Idk how you can fall if you were never really up
But doesn't even need a video. They should have never traded cp3.
He needed a replacement in the starting lineup as he's getting old, but he could have and they should have used him instead as a needed backup PG
Suns gave up everything to get nothing that’s crazy
I told everyone getting rid of CP and there roster for KD was the dumbest thing ever.. you need a playmaker in this league I don’t care what no one says.. every great team has playmakers
matt ishbia is the downfall of this team
Every team wants My team and our outline of the future. 🤣🤣🤣
I agree. I always find it astounding how many people will often excuse ownership when wondering why a team is bad. Things always start at the top, always. Outside of crazy fluke runs, there isn't a consistently good franchise in any sport that constantly wins without good ownership. Sometimes good ownership is being hands-on, other time it's being hands-off. Knowing when to do one or the other is important.
@@drygnfyre true that, in this case it came down to his aggressive influence leading to them gutting the rest of their depth out banking on bradley beal to make to them a contender😂they’re cooked
The only thing that could fix this is trading kd or Beal for scraps at a chance of keeping booker for the rest of his career
To bad Beal has a trash contract with a no trade clause, theh should have never traded for him. Should have traded DA for KP
Trading for KD was a mistake. They were right to move on from Ayton, and Paul needed a replacement cause he was getting up there in age, but aside from that, their lineup was still great. All they lacked was true grit, a win at all costs mentality that demanded greatness no matter how ugly or how many promises they'd break in doing so. That unapologetic get the job done mindset was what got them knocked out by the Mavs in 2022. It could be taught, but it was up to them to absorb it. Instead, they split that core up and here we are.
I wouldn't say their downfall is deserved because they didn't do anything to deserve this kind of heartache. I would say it's their earned downfall because everything that happened was a result of their own choices. There were no extenuating circumstances that caused a disruption to their runs. They just couldn't come through in big moments, the front made some terrible draft choices, trades, and signings, and they fired their only truly good coach since the Nash era. So it's more earned than deserved to me. It would be deserved if the team was filled with horrible people or if they played dirty. But that's just my opinion
The amount of player the Suns missed out on the daft is insane man. Deandre Ayton over Luka Dončić and Jalen Smith over Tyrese Haliburton.
Suns should of kept wearing those valley uniforms too
This sucks man book deserves better than this and i always support and try to accept new players as they come in but the kd trade killed our team and ive felt like that even when we were having streaks of playing well , and its not even that its KD s fault we gave up too much for him mikal and cam were just starting to flourish as players right before we traded them away
I understood the trade for Durant as that team was never going to win a title. I didn't think the trade for Durant would turn the Suns into championship team but I thought it was worth taking a shot. Then the Beal trade and it just didn't make any sense, the team right away didn't look like it would fit and we saw it didn't fit. I'm just always amazed how basketball guys like James Jones and Isbia still couldn't see this was a bad fit. I thought at best, at best, this team might make a conference finals but that was best case scenario in my mind and I didn't even think they would make it that far and I'm not some great basketball mind. I think most if not all of us could see all of the problems trading for Beal would create for the team's depth and structure but for whatever reason Jones and Isbia went stupid.
I’m a Phx transplant from San Antonio and die hard Spurs fan. Nothing is funnier than all this.
KD is the definition of good when it’s good bad when it’s bad he is very inconsistent taking over games when he’s supposed to he disappears
Serious basketball fans remember Steve Kerr becoming GM and immediately trading Kurt Thomas for a 2nd round pick.... Aka the guy who could guard Duncan aka the guy with the midrange J who was always open. It's an "Entertainment League" remember that.
As a Suns Fan, i Never wanted KD on my team... i remember screaming F*** ! The morning i found out we traded for him, i knew it was the same downfall we had after trading for shaq . We had a huuuungry young team... now, i only trust Grayson Allen.
You're probably the only one who does.
Never agreed with a video so fast
The new owner sentenced the Suns to 10 years in Prison. Bend over
I was rooting for the Suns in 2021 until they had to face Giannis. Then I started rooting for the Bucks. Then they got in over their heads and I started rooting for whoever team that they face against.
algo suggested your channel, you got something here...
The KD trade really could have worked but the Beal trade made 0 since in my eyes. You can’t just have all offense with no D it doesn’t work like that in the playoffs!
I feel like instant gratification superteams don't work anymore, whether by injury (KD/Kyrie Nets) or a lack of depth (current Suns & Clippers, etc.).
I don't count the Warriors as one since most of their team was built despite adding and subtracting KD, nor am I counting the 2020 Lakers since that team had veteran/defensive depth.
Look at the teams that are in the Conference Finals right now and tell me those teams aren't mostly built off of 1-2 stars.
The current Suns are NOT a superteam. They have 2 stars (KD and Booker). Bradley Beal has never really been that great, he was just the best player on a bad team. He only has ONE all NBA accolade and it's for the 3rd team. He also hasnt been an all star in years. Most of you just say that whatever team KD is on is a superteam.
The Phoenix Suns are like Ben Simmons and Jordan Poole all rolled up into one!
What?
Must suck to be two wins away from a championship to being swept in the first round.
Anyone else thought jaylen brunson was narrating at first 😂
The Suns badly needed a point gaurd and it shows. This big 3 experiment is a failure, trading KD and maybe Booker should be on the table.
Bro if they drafted luka and mikal with Dbook. That shit would be godly
The moment the Suns signed Bradley Beal, I knew they were finished.
Other than KD and EG, the average age is close to the same as it was with the players who were on that Finals team. Cam J and Mikal are like 1-2 years removed from the ages of Nurk and GA. CP3 was older, Jae Crowder was older. Phoenix was also in a situation where Jae C flat out refused to play for the Suns and tanked his value to an absurd degree so there was no choice but to move on. The only reason the Beal trade was possible was because Beal forced his way to Phoenix, and Suns fans trying to backtrack on that should be thankful because apart from the CP3 contract which looked worse and worse, no one else was taking that Shamet contract either.
The "blow up a young team" narrative is laughably false yet keeps getting thrown around like flat earth theory. The only way there was going to be a "young team" if the Suns just accepted it was time to tank for lotto picks. Suns would still be in the 2nd apron only with Mikal, Cam J, and DA. You can look at how Mikal and Cam J (who is already short a meniscus after having it removed so his career is on borrowed time anyway) are viewed by Brooklyn fans to see how that's panned out. With DA, he balled out towards the end of this season but it was garbage stats. He'd put up all-star numbers but be like a -22, Jordan Poole stuff.
To quote Jack Nicholson, this was as good as it gets. National media was ALL on the Suns' bandwagon with not just the Beal trade but all the vet min signings they made. Unfortunately the coaching staff assembled couldn't implement enough creativity or read the tea leaves well enough to optimize what needed to happen for a team with 13 new players to gel fast enough. The fact the Suns starting 5, when they did play together, were STILL 4th ORTG and 9th NTRG with all that in mind is promising for what could happen with a year of continuity and a coach more inclined to optimize them.
As a mavericks fan that lives in Phoenix its been a great time to make fun of my friends! Lmao
You forgot the part where one of the refs in the spurs series was working for the Mob, and they suspended Amare for a game for coming off the bench in a scuffle but did not suspend Duncan who also came off the bench even though they had the benefit of replay and could see the whole thing.
Yup.bullshit Spurs championship. Suns were the better team!
Still don't understand how they trade ayton to Portland and don't get back lillard or holiday along wit nukic
Booker just needs to ask for a trade, no way he’s winning a ring in phoenix.
Not drafting Luka was probably the biggest mistake in NBA history
You forgot to mention ishbia was a walk-on at Michigan state and won a national title hia freshman year (although he was at the end of the bench.) Also, the company that made him a billionaire was handed to him by his daddy. Therefore, he has all kinds of false confidence
Trade KD for a rim protector/s and perimeter/catch&shoot players.
