      That's the problem caused by improper development of young players. Most of the rookies haven't get used to defending at the nba level except for those who specialize in defends. They should get at least a sense of positional awareness and then work from there to defend as a team. Coaches should also drill into their head how important is communication and discipline so they can prevent late rotation and unnecesary foul

    The sad thing with small market teams is a decent amount of them are mediocre and they don’t want to rebuild because they have a high chance of being bad for a long time because they can’t get good staff because of their market so they don’t want to fall down that path. When you have a team like the knicks who have been bad forever vs the timberwolves who have been bad for a while aswell there is a huge difference. The wolves are in Minnesota and if you are a fan then you may fear that they will be bad for the rest of you’re life so you are ok with them just being ok. If you are the knicks and you are in New York and people want to go there so you don’t fear eternal lottery picks, there is a bright side and a reason to be optimistic.

    Yeah the Magic have been ass post-Dwight but recently ever since 2018-2019 season they’ve actually been good, not great but still a playoff team nonetheless. It’s not like the Kings who haven’t made the playoffs since 2006.

    • @elizabethgeorge168
      @elizabethgeorge168 3 года назад +11

      That's not really a fair comparison considering the Kings are in the West. There have been plenty of seasons where they would be 6-8th in the East...hell, right now they're at 11th in the West and still better than the East's current 6-8.

    • @elizabethgeorge168
      @elizabethgeorge168 3 года назад +1

      @@elizabethgeorge168 his statement stands. The Kings have largely done it to themselves through awful drafting with the exception of Boogie (now currently making impacts elsewhere) and D’Aaron Fox, who I actually feel bad for. As a lifelong magic fan, they've been bad or mediocre team record wise basically every year I've been watching them with a couple of good hopeful seasons sprinkled in between. However, watching and loving them is more for the game and sport than the team. They've had tons of exciting players, even if they don't win games they are fun to watch. Watching TRoss drain 4 threes in a row is incredible, and watching him and Aaron do insane dunks is tons of fun, even if efficiency-wise you know there are much better options. I really don't know any magic fan who expects winning, and instead pretty much everyone just enjoys what they give. Compare that to teams like the lakers, knicks, clippers etc. who's fans expect them to make playoff pushes and sign huge free agents every single season. While I'm sure the players , the coaches and the entire organization wants to win games, people calling them a disappoint because they don't is, in my eyes, a mischaracterization of what magic fans want.

    At 1st glance you’d see it as a small market issue but then there’s teams like the okc who consistently look like a actual decent team even with less talent. In the end it’s always development and the right staff/coach. For example the suns turned their misfortune around and got the right coach for their present team. At a point it looked like Orlando had the same but then you realize the coach isn’t keen on handing out minutes to the young players that theoretically will stay for the long term. This is where development staggers due to a win now mindset that tbh won’t get them that far sadly.

    It’s so crazy the “what if’s” and “up and downs”in the history of the Magic. The team came and landed Shaq and Penny in back to back drafts, had an amazing starting 5. Seem to be Chicago’s new rivals, made the finals, lost, lost the conference finals, Shaq dips, Penny career starts to slip with injuries. Land Mcgrady and Hill, Hill falls with Injuries, T-Mac burst into the best scorer in the league. Land the first overall pick, Tmac demands a trade, draft Dwight, turns into the next coming of Shaq, goes to the finals, lost, trade and got Vince Carter as Dwight’s scorer and floor spacer. Lost in the conference finals, Otis Smith hits the Panic button and trades everything that made the team great, loses in the first round. Went and got Glen Davis to make Dwight stay lmfaooo....Dwight demands a trade....Dwightmare starts.....and trash ever since

    I always liked the Magic as a second team to root for but it’s been hell for them the last 8 years. Seeing players like Tobias Harris and Victor Oladipo go succeed somewhere else. Seeing Dwight Howard and Frank Vogel go win a championship with the Lakers. And seeing this season of Jonathan Issac and Markelle Fultz out with season ending injury. Truly want the Magic to succeed as NBA is always fun when small market teams are competitive. It’s time to explode it and start from scratch. Good luck Magic fans, I’m rooting for you

    You were correct about the Hennigan rebuild being a failure but I disagree with everything else. The Magic have had 4 starters out for most of the 2020-2021 season. Show me any team that’s successful under those circumstances.
    The Oladipo x Sabonis x Ibaka trade was indeed terrible BUT it did eventually did turn into Ross & Fultz which isn’t a bad correction. Unfortunately Fultz got injured 🤕
    Mo Bamba also suffered a serious injury in the form of a stress fracture in his leg. An injury some say takes a full year to recover from. On top of that he’s also one of the few NBA players that contracted Covid-19 and unfortunately for some, COVID has lingering effects. Later on he also had to quarantine due to contact tracing. I believe I heard mentioned somewhere you can’t work out under quarantine. Mo Bamba is just now finally rounding into shape.
    Yes the Magic do have a terrible history of player development but when Hennigan got fired, they also fired the entire development staff. I believe even the chefs got fired lol. When they hired WeltHam, they also increased the player development budget exponentially. They hired all new training staff, analytics dept., sports science and brought in the latest state of the art technology.
    Before the shutdown last year the Magic were on a stretch of having the #1 offense in the league. You made absolutely no mention of the pandemic as it doesn’t agree with your narrative.
    So how do we properly assess the current rebuild under those circumstances? A pandemic that has destroyed all continuity and a string of bad injuries 🤔
    My thing is, if we’re going to tell the story, let’s tell the WHOLE story.

    I am a loyal Orlando Magic fan and i agree with parts of this video but I do think we are moving in the right Direction. There have been some bad decisions the first 3 or 4 seasons post Howard trade but since they got steve Clifford they have developed a culture. Yes, they need that go to scorer that can take them to the next level. Think about the Sacramento Kings they have not been competitive for the last 15 seasons until this season. It took Golden state 15 years to become the championship team they became. It takes team and let’s be honest a little luck but the culture is there they just need a little luck. I think if they had there full team they would be too 6 in the east.

    Player development issues are one thing, it's another thing tho when their two best players are stuck in the 2000s. Gordon is just an athlete, doesn't have many pure skills, and Vucevic is too fragile away from the post.
    It's not like Giannis with the Bucks or Simmons with the Sixers where even if their shot is off they make up for it beyond just athleticism. They can pass, they can defend, and their speed is ridiculously amazing. It allows the lanes to clog up so that space for their shooters can be created. You don't get that same spacing with AG and Vuc.

    Nowadays fans are too quick to say a team should just "blow it up and rebuild." Whenever I hear people saying that unnecessarily, I always think of the Orlando Magic. People don't realize that trying to rebuild a team doesn't guarantee it'll be a successful rebuild... Sometimes a team can try to rebuild and it can take over a decade with little to no progress

    For a team like the Magic who are not particularly a prime free agent destination the past decade, it is important that they draft correctly and emphasize player development. The Utah Jazz would be a great template for them (although Utah do not have the high draft picks the Magic has). With the way the Magic develop their players, they could have drafted Giannis himself and he would end up as a bust (Giannis is another example of how a good player development could make a great team)
