- Hey language learners! Videos accompanied by matching subtitles constitute one of the most valuable resources at a language learner's disposal. By downloading these files you'll be able to get even MORE utility out of these resources.
Having the actual subtitle files makes it easier to make look ups, isolate audio, use assistive reading tools like LingQ or LUTE, and more.
Luckily, you can download (almost) ANY subtitle file for free, and Ben will show you how!

Glad I found it and didn't waste a few hours to copy it myself, many thanks!
Many thanks, I spent about 2 hours trying to figure that out before I found your video. Even with your video I had some difficulty finding the file but it did work in the end.
You saved my life. Thank you very much.
Absolutely appreciated.
Hey, any idea how to download closed captions from iVysilani?
Thank you brother, it was help full
Great información. Thanks, Ben
When I'm in the network/fetch she tab and then reload the page, it brings me to the "sources" tab....?
I just tried it on this video playing with CC on and no .vtt file in firefox (115.9.1esr (64-bit)) inspector, I reloaded a few times in case, so I shall reserve judgement on the 'it works on basically any site' as seem not on the tube of U with this video.
this was helpful! although they named the file quite differently, I found it anyway so thank you!
I get a "403 forbidden" error despite having a valid login to the website and it playing just fine in another window
The screen shown here looks mothing like mine when I follow the steps.
What browser was used here?
Can someone help me? The crt+shift+f window pops up and I can select the subtitles but once I press 'ok' nothing happens. No extra window will pop up to download the subtitles :(
Thank you so much. I did it.
thanks for the help . thank you so so much
i swear YOU ARE THE BEST! GOD BLESS YOU! I CAN GIVE U A $MILLION!
I am searching for a software or plugin to download English videos with German subtitles in a browser. can you help me? (Site is scoolinary)
Thank you
Someone let the Japanese know they are allowed to use the subtitle files instead of hard subs.
Hard subs are one of my pet peeves 😂
I guess they're better than nothing, but if you go out of your way to make and provide subtitles, why not make them actually useful! There are tons of people who need them larger, smaller, want them gone, want to use them for timing, etc.
I'll send a letter to Japanese on your behalf 👍
- Ben
That drove me nuts about Japanese. They have subtitles for everything even stuff you’d think natives wouldn’t care about but it’s all old school hard subs 😂
In the past, the function of hidden subtitles wasn't available in most VHS or DVD players. Nowadays is very easy to be bothered by hard subs on vids, because on our smartphones we can easily choose to enable or disable the subs, but in the past, even smartphones like Nokia N95 wouldn't have the option to enable hidden subtitles in their default player. I guess that's why to solve this, a lot of material during this period were hard subs.
Oof… I’ve been trying to find the subtitle file for FranceTV shows since Ben’s last videos about ASB Player… but no luck. When I turn the subtitles on, I do see a bunch of filenames appear that have the word “textstream” in there, but if I click any of them, only a kind of blank video player opens in a new window. Anyone have any suggestions?
Not off the top of my head. That sounds like a great thing to ask in the Discord. There are a lot of people in there who are much techy-er than me!

Ctrl + Shift + F not working
worked perfectly brother ... but the file is usable with Movies & TV Player (Windows Player) and not usable on VLC Player ... Thanks a Lot Brother ... Love From Pakistan
Thanks for your video! Am I the only one who couldn't make it? I'm trying to download subtitles from a RUclips video. I downloaded the extension, pressed CTRL+SHIFT+F and... nothing happened. I tried it on a different video - same story( I tried to open the Absplayer as a side panel - no result too. It can't detect any subtitles.
Wow, thanks
Guys , immersive translate is what you are looking for. I hope it will help sb in need of a website for generation of subtitles. It is free and generates even movie subtitles.
Thank you! It's just what I've been looking for!
how do i get the caption instead of the full english subititles
Thank you so much, I did it! :D
Great job 😎 You're a hacker now
- Ben
thanks
the sites I'm on, it does nothing when you right click. but it has like 7 or 8 different subs you can choose from. it's kind of maddening that all the subs I want are right there but I can't get them.
Try using F12 or checking with a different browser. You should be able to do this on any website. If you send me a link, I can try it myself.
what is the name of the popup dictionary in 2:50 ?
I can´t with Prime video :/
this method is not working with one of the websites. When I click on inspect element the web page just reloads goes to homepage
Could anyone please help me.
(or)
I am planning to learn German through anime. What I am doing is that downloading a English dub and then adding a German sub file to it but not able to find German subtitles files
Please someone help me
I've never seen inspect do this but even if that did happen, you should be able to navigate to any page when you have the tab open. Once you do that if there are subtitle files they should be listed in the Network tab.
I am also learning German with anime
download Subtitle Edit.
then when you open it click "Video" on the top bar
then click Audio to text "whisper"
then download a "large v3" model,
and add the videos you want subtitles for.
then the program will make automatic subtitles for you that actually match the audio
what to click on mac for the extension instead of contrl+shift+f
Probably CMD + Shift + F, but if you click the extension up in the right, you should be able to see the ASBplayer settings and see what it is. Or change it to something else.

Does ABS work with Chinese streaming websites?
It should work as long as it's a video player! The only way to find out for sure is to try 😛

How to download the subtitles from a Facebook video?
umm excuse me brother what about filipino movies?????
Internet Download Manager extension on chrome let's you download the (.VTT) files from any website as well, thank you for your video it helped a lot because I didn't know that the (.VTT) files are subtitles, I don't have to use any method in this video though as IDM lets me download all VTT files as i mentioned before.
how ? can explain ?my idm only show me link for video download
For youtube:
Download IDM, there you will find option to download subtitle file as well.
NOTE: Make sure caption is enabled before you click on download video button.
where is the option ?
HERO!
I did exactly how the video said I should do, but I can't seem to download the file. :( I want to download subtitles for Netflix shows.
For Netflix, you can get the ASBplayer extension and use that to download them: chromewebstore.google.com/detail/asbplayer-language-learni/hkledmpjpaehamkiehglnbelcpdflcab
The main technique doesn't work well for Netflix.
cảm ơn
Do you know what the extension would be for Jio TV?
I've only seen .vtt, but other subtitles file formats are .srt, .sub, .ass (yes that's real), .ssa, .smi
But most of those are super rare. I hope this helps!
True. There are hundreds of formats but I commonly find ttml and ttml2 or dfxp in these sites. I'm generally good at extracting these but Jio is stumping me.
Doesn't work for youtube
For RUclips there are tons of sites that do it for you (such as downsub.com/) since RUclips handles subtitles a little differently. Hope this helps!
- Ben
Vtt does not work 😢
.srt
As a bonus these days they can be used to train AI
Bro you looks like Mitchell santner😂
That's a very specific person 😂 But I see it. Especially with my hair like it is in this video.
I've had several people say that I look like Tom Brady, but I never saw it. At least with Michell Santner I can see what you mean 😂😂😂
I hope the video was useful! 😛
The .vtt file isn't useful at all.
Nearly all subtitle viewers work with .vtt files. Or you can Google "vtt to srt converter."
mal
mine was .srt but yeah i found it. thanks
