Hey Joe, really great stuff bro! Appreciate all of your insight on this. It’s refreshing to hear another photographer’s perspective on creators block and grinding it out with consistency and hard work.
I stumbled into your channel a week or so ago while looking for content on Street Photography but for small town and suburbs and now subscribed. The people I have seen so far in your videos have been great and so inspiring. I know this seems to be a young person's game for the most part, but at 61, almost 62, I have gotten the Street bug and starting to learn from videos like yours and others so I can jump out and start my adventure. Thank you so much for all you do to support these artist and allow us to see into some of their techniques and philosophies with regards to photography and really, life. Keep up the great work. Oh, Joe was just a great person to watch. He's very confident, but still doesn't seem to take himself too seriously... More please!
I am on the other end of the age spectrum just starting out at 16, its never too early or too late to start man. With your age comes life experience that can help give photos more meaning. I don't have that but I rather have lots of energy to always go out. We all have our differences and its what makes photography so diverse, unique and beautiful. Wishing you the best of luck with your street photography journey!
Man, this was such a nice look into Joe's method and personality. Social media skews things so much, so it's really cool to see things from a more down-to-earth perspective. Great stuff. New to the channel. Definitely subscribing!
I don't know too much about Joe's background, how he made it as a professional photographer or why he has haters but the man seems like a salt of the earth, genuinely solid human. Absolutely loved this walkie talkie Paul, Great stuff man.
Those guys shaking hands around 11:30 would have been a PERFECT shot!!! Problem is you often don’t know the moment will be there until you’ve witnessed it and by then it’s too late
Hi Paulie My name is Marcelino and I have been watching your youtuve videos on and off for 3 months and I must say the diversity and knowledge that each photographer you have on Walkie Talkie is insightful and always different. I shoot digital ( Fuji xe 2 and 18mm and 35mm lens. And I have to watch them again sometimes because I watch them and I pick up something. What I mean by different is that the all have thier own process and journey and I pick up something that I didn't know before. . Thank you so much for your contribution to enhancing the craft and art of photography
Awesome! After a hiatus i wanna go back to street photography. I only shot bnw but seeing Joe's film work inspired me to do more color photography. Thanks for the video!
I’d love to see all the photographers pictures of the same street corner. It would be cool to see what each photographer gravitates towards in a similar sounding. 💜
5:40 - People wanting to be photographed is such an amazing thing and NYC is the epicenter of that sentiment. I can't imagine having shadowed Bill Cunningham on his walks. In Tokyo, there are SO MANY opportunities for similar photography, but often times there's an aversion to it from the people being photographed. It's all so interesting, but we keep on keepin' on with it. Please visit when you can!
I could watch these all day. Such a great peak behind the curtain of some of the most talented artists in the world. Thank you for putting these out into the universe.
great stuff and nice to see Joe so open about the process - appreciated. I'm in LA and street photog here is limited. Downtown LA used to be good pre covid - but even then it went to sleep in the evening. But now? Over-run by transients and so many of the regular people are gone. Not a good scene to try and walk about taking pics. Still good spots are Venice Beach, and the Santa Monica boardwalk. But nothing like NYC or Chicago. A film I recommend is Kentmere 400 - made by Ilford - and super cheap compared to TriX or even HP5. About $5.25/36exp. Has that old school film look w nice visible grain, a little halation for back lit glow and easily pushed.
Really enjoying the videos on your channel, Paulie B. Very inspiring and just a pleasure to watch. More than anything you show what a wonderful experience it is to photograph on the streets, something that I've only started doing this year. Thanks for making all of this happen 😉
I actually started in photography with drone then street. I’m missing street so much. I’m thinking of with getting a film shooter or a Fuji that has film simulation especially with film prices going up I don’t wanna waste film while real film shooters are in need. But your channel is bringing that passion back. I can get great subjects in DC
Just watched this. Authentic, interesting and inspirational. Paulie, your stuff is great, please keep putting out content for people like me that a crazy time poor but love photography. Joe, I was on the fence about you, but I get you after this. Love your stuff, be the 2020s Garry W. I wish you every success.
not the biggest fan of Joe's work normally but what a great episode. Think it helps a lot that he's clearly a good friend with you and is relaxed. All the best to you both
This was a great video! The algorithm suggested this to me and I don’t know who either of these guys are. I’ve seen a few other street shooting videos like this before, but this was way more entertaining and the actual photos were so much better than from other videos I’ve seen. Props to both of you!
Music inspires me to shoot a certain way, in Manhattan I don’t like to not hear what’s going on around me but when I’m in the more calm parts of NY, music is a must
totally had a small 1 day country side trip with my aunt with a film camera and only when I went to the developing shop where i open it up and realize there was no film inside, big heart break. lesson learned.
Awesome video, Paulie. I hope you can keep doing more of this. To @joegreer : Hey man, Cuba is waiting for you to come back to fix what happened last time. I hope I can see you on the streets of Havana soon ✌️😎
Love love love this video and your channel man. Always love getting a behind the scenes look into how joe shoots, it’s super interesting, and the banter was great. Putting it out into the universe that I’ll be in one of these videos one day 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I swear these videos get me so inspired to go out and photograph. However I’m finding all my visits to Downtown LA are becoming saturated. I think I need to take a trip to New York
This is the second episode that I’ve seen and both times the photographer was shooting film (and the host !). Is film still a thing? I’ve been out of the game entirely for the past 9 years but just got me a z6iii to dive back in. Stoked on this Walkie Talkie series, Paulie. You’re killin it brother.
These episodes are fantastic! Do any of the photographers ever get asked where the photos will be featured? I just wonder if some of the people being snapped get curious.
I'm trying to figure out how film shooting is better than digital for streetshooting as film is not cheap to buy and to develop/scan. An M10p and a Q2m would be ideal, I would think - wouldn't Joe get better pics? What am I missing here? Don't get me wrong, I love film and have multiple film cameras.
Joe seems like a really cool guy. I'm not sure what sort of comments he faces online but I've seen nothing to make me think he deserves any negativity. Great video.
Maybe people are fed up with constant videos of the so-called street photographers who run around the streets like a 5-year-old with a camera and end up with 99.999% garbage shots, but people think they're the best thing yet. I love the walkies videos, but some of the photographers wouldn't be someone that I'd be interested because of the bland photos. Mellissa O'Shaunessy has been the only one that I thought was truly honest and true to herself. Horses for courses as they say, or the world would be a boring place if we all liked the same stuff, music, photos, books or hobbies.
It’s an interesting approach. I wonder if intent is different for todays photographers versus photographers from the 70s, 80s. Where today the story is more about the photographer, and 30-40 years ago, the story was about the photograph.
To further clarify- I don’t think the latter is less important- I just wonder how perhaps ‘intent’ translates through to the quality of the images, purpose, narrative, storytelling etc. I think these interviews /walk arounds are great but it seems we all as artists are required more and more to personify our “brand” in order to stand out from the very crowded space of visual artists.
@@caleidoo so much love for this perspective. Thx for sharing and maybe one day- those of us that share this perspective will be included in the story. -Much love
Great vid, very entertaining. My answer for a deceased interview is Vivian Maier. I also almost always listen to music when shooting. Only don’t when I forget to charge my headphones. Keep up the great work!
Harvey Keitel did a cool photography project and stood on the same corner in Brooklyn every day and took a photo from the same spot. you get to see one ladies routine the whole year. she never missed a day if i recall correctly.
I always wonder, how do you go about taking these photos? Like some of them look so candid and real life that it feels like you just took them without the person knowing. But then how does it go after you've snapped the pic? Do you stop and talk to them and ask to use the picture, do you say nothing, have you had any scary/nightmare experiences where someone haas just lost their 💩 at you?

Going by Greer’s point about people wanting to get their photos taken, you could see that in the woman smoking cigs lol. Nothing wrong with going with the obvious choice! Would love to walk about with Winogrand.

05:53 my answer would be Vivian Maier, who wasn’t “discovered” until after her death. Would be great to hear her talk about her work in her own words
YES, thought of her immediately after I heard the question!
Exactly what I was thinking!
Assuming you could get her to say anything... That really would be interesting.
Was thinking the same. Also guessed that Joe was shooting Tri-X in the first try, idk why. Outstanding images, enjoyed this so much.
Sameeee. Instantly thought of her.
This was a great episode seriously.. I would love to see some women and or some digital photographers in the future. Food for thought 🤷
