    I recently tried this cake. I wanna thank hidamari cooking for this awesome recipe. Though my cake didn't look as elegant as the video, it tasted amazing and was finished in a beat. I couldn't find canned organes so instead I put slices of canned mandarin for the first layer. My cake didn't stay well without the mold but that could be because I used a bigger diameter mold and the surface area was too much. But overall an amazing baking experience.

      Those are Japanese mandarin called Mikan, a native Asian orange in south of Japan. They’re very common in winter time here and we can peel it easily. It comes in various sizes and juice is very fruity, softly fragrant and not sickly sweet as Florida sweet oranges. Flesh is very soft and delicate. I can eat 3 of those in one sitting for a snack they’re very good. Most Japanese families buy Mikan in a huge box in winter time and eat them through out winter a lot, as we eat seasonal fruits and vegetables, and Mikan is in season right now.
      We do have many Japanese citrus you know not only Europe or in the US like Florida Lol 😂 Have you heard of Yuzu (Piney Japanese bright yellow citrus) or Kabosu (Japanese lime). They’re very fragrant more than lemon or lime. They’re native to Japan and we have many other Japanese citrus we eat locally.

    I made this! I used a loaf pan lined with plastic wrap because I didn't have the correct size mold. The plastic wrap had wrinkles so the result was not a smooth orange jelly top. Maybe plastic wrap and parchment paper on top next time? I didn't know what to substitute for the canned oranges so I just boiled fresh orange slices for 2 minutes and let them dry. I usually find cheesecakes too rich for me, but the orange jelly balances it out nicely. I think next time I will add more orange jelly in the cake. Thank you for the recipe!

    I prepared this recipe, and the results were amazing !!! I only made some modifications, I use light cream cheese and instead of heavy cream, I used freeze evaporated milk, and instead of sugar I used monk fruit... but the result was exquisite!

      Jost Von Roy its to clean the wax off the zest I’m assuming

    • @emmapalmer7946
      @emmapalmer7946 5 лет назад +1

      @@cynthia_ess yeah, it would be to get the wax off. You don't want wax in your zest, and it also makes it harder to zest if you forget. Soaking in warm water would also get it off. Same for apples, if you eat the skin.

    For the record, companies like DOLE & Del Monte have sold *canned mandarin oranges* for decades. On a different note, excellent job with editing of this video. The video cuts are superb. And love the _silent treatment,_ makes for a more interesting show. And one last thing, you left the peels on the oranges. What does that taste like?
