Don't look down at your feet though coz you go where your sight is set. Fix your gaze at the point where you intend to enter the water and it should make a proper angle from where you start i.e., your dive should be neither be too shallow nor too deep. Maybe confusing but you will understand once you start practicing.
Hi so this isn’t about your comment at all but if it wasn’t a bother I was wondering if you could give me a few tips on tryouts for swim team, I’ve never swam competitively before because I just never thought about it but I’m starting to be interested and I have a tryout soon. I was hoping you could give me some tips as a person who has done competitive swimming before? Sorry for the bother!
I can dive off the edge pretty well but the moment I’m on a board it’s really nerve-wrecking for me, and no matter how hard I have tried I always bellyflop and it HURTS! I really needed this. Thank you! Edit: I can now dive properly off a board!! Hooray! 😁
Thats the main part about diving actually, eliminating that fear, and even i took a few days to get through that, but you need to do it yourself and once you get in a couple of dives that fear starts to fade.
@@billieeilish5871 exactly happened to me, first time did 2 dives, both wrong, first landed on belly, 2nd time on face. Couldn't build courage for next 3weeks, now finally tried even though getting hurt a lot, even bleeded my elbow going till the ground of swimming pool. But can now do somewhat, normal dive and somersault dive.
Nice video! Just overcame my constant fear of diving today, I am always scared and hesitated on the edge. My goggles still slid down but I will keep trying. The short moment in the air is amazing.
i love 21st century. i can flip turn, swim freestyle and dive. people in the pool think I am a pro, but I never had a coach and mastered all the technics watching youtube.
I’m about to start high school and there’s a swim club and seeing how to do a dive here definitely helped me understand how to dive and a lot more so thank you
I started learning to dive today and I'm definitely diving too deep and cleaning the bottom of the pool with my face 😂 I seem to be entering the water a bit too vertical and my knees end up bending. This video is super helpful though in breaking it all down, I'm going to keep the advice in mind next time I practice! Thank you!!
@@amoinkouakou6257 yeah 2 meter pool usually got stoops so you can dive more horizontally, never dive vertically in those. 4 meter pool is where the fun is at with vertical dives.
As a trained swimmer, I'd give a tiny advice to beginner swimmers...Diving makes it easier for you finish a length if you jump properly to some distance..but NEVER just jump without the correct technique...it could hurt you and if you're in a relay or meet, (if you're wearing goggles, they might come off if you jump the wrong way) and it'll distract you.. Also..this video is a good demonstration..thanku
I'm gonna be training to be a lifeguard pretty soon, and I'm pretty sure I can do everything swim related. But I also have to perform a decent dive and retrieve a 20lb brick from deep in the pool, which is tricky since I've never dived a day in my life. Your advice, however, makes me a lot more confident and I feel like I can do it. Thank you.
By the way when you’re diving you don’t want to pull back just stay the same position, because from experience when I pulled back on the diving block I slipped off it and it wasn’t nice
Love from Nepal 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵 I watched your video 20 minutes prior to my 2 hour swimming session. and sir I am glad to inform you that it worked. I was a bit hesitant at first but then I tried diving from sitting position, and then from standing position and finally from the ramp.. Thank you for making the art of diving so simple.
im having a competition today, basically i am an exp. swimmer + diver, but i still watched this video to know if im doing it correctly :) and honestly the deep dive is exactly my problem so i will try lifting up my arms!
what my coach says is to start on the edge while in a ball sort of (like tucking in ur legs to ur chest) and then dive in w/streamline, and then progress to the standing dive. then do the track start off the edge. then repeat the process on the blocks
Then you're obviously doing something wrong. Try with an instructor, or just tell something to film you when diving, so you can see how are you doing it, the things you're doing bad and correct them by yourself
Bip tip, when doing a track start both legs need to be lined with the hips and hands also need to be lined with shoulders and head under the hips that is how to do the competitive track start
Thanks for the help. I am doing the swimming merit badge in boy scouts and I was able to do everything but I just wasn’t able to dive this helps a lot.
Well, I am really old school from the days when we started in the shallow end and 'slapped' the water.... Nice to see the use of both feet on the edge of the platform. I don't trust either knee due to age and use and abuse, so this method works for me. I am kind of surprised that there is no 'thrust' with the arms to help propel you off the blocks. This was old school, and is used in the standing long jump and for measuring vertical leap. Comments?
Back in the day my mother helped me by holding her arm about half a meter in front of the edge I jumped from und then gradually moving it forward as I got better, it helps somehow
Thanks a lot It was first time to try diving and it really worked, I swimmed since high school but never tried diving. After that I tried it 10 times, just to make sure it was not a lucky jump 😅 You saved us from the bellyflop.

another tip for competitive swimmers: when you dive from the track start do not bring your hands straight UP into streamline as that throws you backward and reduces the power of your dive. Instead, bring your arms back and around (doesn't have to be straight arms or super far back) and into streamline, as THIS method works WITH the rest of your body throwing you forward versus the other which throws you back.
Yea, 1) im always doing a bellyflop 2) i think its just this thing thats holding me back, not really like fear, but think about this: Is it really smart to jump head first in the water when the head is (argueably) the most important bodypart, that youre just exposing straight down. Vince are you still flopping? If you are, look at this video again where the "flop" is demonstrated. Notice on entering the water the floppers head is above his arms. At the start of a dive it is ok to look down the pool but the arms must point towards the entry point and the head must be between the arms, looking down just before entry. Hope this helps.
I learned swimming few years ago but I didn’t dive out of fear but this summer I’m focusing on diving and i have been diving 20-25 times in just an hour 😂 i love diving lmao and it’s getting better dive by dive.
