This video saved me. I can’t dive off the blocks well and I was worried because I had a gala that night. I was told that my dive was acceptable. Thank you.
One thing I see you do here, and Caleb Dressel pointed this in one of his videos, when you fire off the blocks, first thing that happens with you is that your head comes up. This slows you down, in response time. Keep your head down. Caleb has the best start out there.
i joined a highschool swim team (im in the beginner lane) for the first time, i havent swam in 2 years but im trying to get into the sport again because i love it alot . im gonna have my very first swim meet in a couple of weeks and im really nervous but ill try my best :)
I need to go further in the air when I push off, and also I am a young swimmer and I have a competition coming up soon and I dont really have that full strength to pull myself on the block to get the full streamline. So thank you for the tips!
This helps me a lot, I wasn’t doing well in swimming, and I now know what to do whenever I have a swim meet and I will start getting a better score now, thank you!
Note that, the lean back is not to get stability nor to prime the legs. The very slight stretch is for the lats. So if you find yourself leaning back and still not getting the your lats primed, try keeping the butt up and push upwards. This is very uncomfortable, especially for people with very tight hamstrings. The activation on this slingshot motion, is forearms, lats, and rear leg. The drive through when the weight is carried forward with the rear leg straighten as the front leg now drive the start take off, and the last bit to fire off is the front leg ankles (read calves activation.)
Omg this video helps so much because I am a scared diver and I had a swim meet the next morning and I had to go off the block and I was worried so I watched this and did perfect dives at my swim meet
Any suggestion on how far should I aim for that hole in the water? How far should I touch the water? I've tried short distance entry, long distance entry, medium distance entry but something seems odd. Is there any standard like related to a swimmers height?
I taught my nephew how to dive off the diving board in 1 week using your videos, however, I, an adult who is just learning how to dive, can still not dive with an arc like this. And when I try and fail it hurts or my swim cap comes off. I don’t know if you have any more advice beyond this for that specific issue but if you do, I would really love to see a video on that.
What about looking ahead when you dive off? I see some pros jumping off and looking up momentarily before hitting the water to get a little more distance.
What happened to the old school two-footed start with toes over edge of start block? It seems like you could get alot more power pushing off with two legs rather than one.
For some reason when I dive in a race, when I emerge out of the water all the other swimmers are a whole body length ahead of me, do you know why? Thank you
@4:16 Your front leg leaves last so he got it wrong - hands, back foot and lastly power front the front foot. You can clearly see what leg leaves last @3:59
Hi I do workout in the gym a lot of pullups pushups but when it comes to staying in the water for long periods of time I can not exceed half hour I get too tired and there were some girl who treaded water for about 4 hours but for me I've used my strength and I couldn't any tips for treading water for long periods would be really helpful.
I really needed this!!! But I'm still too scared to dive from the blocks because the water is only 6ft at my pool and I feel ill smash my face on the bottom. Right now I just dive from the other end of the pool
Glad to hear! Definitely continue practicing in an area that is safe for you, but six feet should be deep enough to dive without hitting the bottom! Check out this other video about diving that we made: ruclips.net/video/GLMaNiC3egw/видео.html
What I do, I have been doing swim since I was like 5 and I'm 18, barely skin the water. So I basically dive and try no to go so deep, but deep enough to where I'm not like 4 feet under water, but where I am close to 2 feet from water
Hi I don’t know if you mentioned this or not but when I tried diving off the block I have a bad habit of bending my knees so as a result my feet came in first. So do you know how I could fix that
I am 5’6”. I do the “slingshot” when the ref call for your mark. I push with legs but pull with arms… Is the only way I can beat taller guys at the start.

Great point - Caeleb Dressel's start is probably the best ever!
Do you have a video using standard track-start starting blocks? which are a good bit higher than the white blocks in this video.

This really helped me, especially with breastroke helping me get that distance underwater
So glad to hear that! Maximize that underwater pullout and happy swimming!

I would like to know if everyone can do competitive swimming and also what is the swimming progression after you learn to swim?
If you're good. Compositions. Swimming, diving, synchronisation etc. Or just do it for fun and fitness
What about looking ahead when you dive off? I see some pros jumping off and looking up momentarily before hitting the water to get a little more distance.
Moment 5:12 realy helped ty

That's true but you lost a lot of time with that i guess
But slower to jump, at the end, one leg is faster… at least in my experience
Excellent.useful tips very relatable
I think this will help me improve a lot 😊
looks like the BACK leg pushes FIRST !!!!!!!
I used to swim when I was young but diving was so scary for me, I guess I should overcome my fear, will start over again. Diving at this time.
I have dive shy ty this helped me😊
Definitely helpful, thank you❤
Glad to hear that! Happy swimming :)
I just want to know what is a dns after the beep?
Whoa, this video was so interesting! I'm so glad to say that my coach doesn't tell me any of these things.

6ft is deep enough cuz the pool i go to itself is 6ft and 25 meters we only get access to the deeper and the 50m pool during satrudays
but for that you need a good start so u dont go too down or you dont be too up

How can I help my legs keep still they bend over when I dive and I can’t fix it
Lock your knees.
Thanks, I have my first ever meet tomorrow and still can’t start
So when i get off the block do i aim to jump a short distance?
Try to dive as far out as you can without letting your legs smack the water! Pretend you're diving through a hula hoop :)
I lift my head up and then my arms go under my head so when I go in the water my chest goes first so I keep doing a belly Flop.
How fast can you swim
