In all reality, most of these issues are pretty insignificant and mild compared to many other supercars. They are well built and perform exceptionally well.
Guys this car is one of the most underrated cars. Is it better than a 458 Ferrari quite possibly yes by a mile What car in this range actually has a carbon tub and 616bhp. Most of the issues such as flat battery are simply fixed by just leaving on trickle charge when not in use. If the spoiler is partially up, as in you’ve stoped in active mode. Simply drive off and it will reset. I actually own one of these and had no issues. It’s actually flawless and an amazing piece of been engineering. My advise is buy one while you can and buy one which has been serviced regardless of mileage at McLaren annually. That way lots of these issues are not a problem. Cam phasers normally have issues when cars have been revved hard from cold. Have mechanical empathy and allow the engine oil and water to get up to temperature and before driving hard and you’ll be unlikely to have these issues. Guys it really is time you recognised how great this car is.
totally agree, I have one and love it. 2 years in and no problems, fyi you can get a battery for half that. Tail lights rarely fail. They can fog up though. The wing doesnt get stuck either dude what you talking about, gearbox issues are not common, cam phasers are also not common, get the facts right. Im guessing you dont own one? Yes clamps leak but only certain hoses. Replacement screens very cheap but dont fail commonly. Iris 1 is basic but works fine, not seen a failure yet. Never seen a seat failure, windshields dont break either. accumulators can wear yes, but its the same with any other hydraulic car. The steering racks never fail either. Cheers, ex mclaren mechanic and owner.
mclaren only changed the body panels and upped the power levels for the differnet models, you can turn an mp4 into a 570/650 with just body panels. thats how good the car is.
The real problem is that the early volcano colors (specifically Volcano Red and Volcano Orange) all the way through the 650S did not have a thick enough clear coat over the top of the tinted clear coat to protect it. The cars are actually silver and then painted with a tinted clear in the color of the vehicle. The combination of UV rays, heat, and even paint correction will degrade the tinted clear coat. The reason some sections of the car seem to be worse than others is because of the differences with metal, composite, and plastic the way they react to the sun. Mirror caps and gas caps tend to fade really fast.
Thank u for the informative and thorough video! I have half a dozen supercars: Porsches lambos ferraris owned anywhere from 5-9 years and they all have been great to me, each has its own weakness and issues. Have been taking a back seat on the mclarens over the years coz I have been waiting for Indy mechanics and suppliers to catch up and learn about these cars, as paying 4k a year to dealers for warranty on a car that’s unlikely to ever appreciate makes zero sense. Always respect them as amazing machines, but my god those issues across all fronts are indeed intimidating and discouraging (mechanical, paint, design flaws, interiors, electronics, hydraulics). I can see someone taking the gamble if they only intend to own 1-2 years
570's don't have accumulators. The entire sport series doesn't have them, and neither does the GT. Power steering rack issues actually stem from bad accumulators. What happens is the accumulators absorb the power steering fluid, it gets below it's minimum level, and then you start getting air in the system and it could damage the rack. Usually if you catch it in time you just need to top off the fluid until you can replace the accumulators. Notchy steering is an indicator of bad accumulators.
I enjoyed your video. I'm moving in to rebuilding cars and going to start my channel this year. I might reach out to you if I have questions about Mclaren you have a lot of knowledge if that would be ok with you.
As a long term owner of a 12c I don’t recognize the litany of issues this review highlights. If you want an accurate summation of a 12C I’d recommend looking at John Thorne’s breakdown at Thorney Motorsport. He’s serviced literally hundreds of them and like me takes a different view to this very negative view.
I was looking at one 12C last week and noticed there was a bill to cover the replacement of a cylinder head. Unfortunately, it meant a new engine from McLaren at a total cost of approx £40k! On the bright side, McLaren HQ is only round the corner from me. 😅
A good friend bought one for £198k new, had an epic service bill for £27k. Owned the car 3 years with minimal miles and was offered £65k by McLaren Manchester UK. He eventually sold it private for £76k. 😩 Meanwhile 458 prices are on the up and having driven both would say the Ferrari delivers on every level.
I owned it for 4 years put 50k km😅 on it .. the best super car I ever owned. But have your warranty that all. Lamborghini and Ferrari are also great and more dramatic however… if driving is your goal .. there’s nothing like the magic carpet of a McLaren
I appreciate this video as a layout but think you can thank declining values to videos like this. Would love to know what the failure rates on these items really are on a percentage basis? This video makes it seem like ALL MP4s have all these issues and are basket cases which doesn't appear to be the reality. Could you clarify a bit on how many cars you've seen with these issues?
Someone I kno is willing to sell his for 100k with 13k miles but I'm scared asf to touch it lol but I doesn't seem that bad from what I'm researching... idk I was in the market for a amg gt 2dr
@@DealerIgnition short term, yes. long term, the 458 will be more sought after thus have more stable prices. you have to calculate the maintenance costs also. if you need to replace your 12C windshield, it's 7 grand. that is insane.

This thing is also basically under 100k at this point I think it's worth it

Its good by specs but it doesnt look good as some supercars especcaily the 458 which is the masterpeace
you must be high if you think this is better than a 458.
im glad i seen this comment this dude is making me not want to buy it im not feelong this dudes vibe

This is my dream car until now. I think it looks calm and elegant as a supercar, especially on the front side.
I’m currently in the maker for a MP4 and that’s what brings me to the video. It’s good to hear other owner’s chime in.
The straight-up honesty. Thank you!

Great video. Super honest and straightforward without any BS!
I appreciate that! Always have to be honest with people, no point in selling BS.
Best mp4 12C video ever!!!

Thats why you buy them already depreciated, let the owner who bought new take the hit.
thanks bro! i was definitely gonna buy this but now i won’t😔
Totally your choice. This red one in the video has been well taken care of by Evan, and the previous owner.

Hello I'm wondering this car getting more problem or 570? Which one is batter car for mechanic and parts?

Me at the beginning of the video: *shopping for 12c*
Me at the end of the video: nah
😂
Haha. Pick and choose. 12c’s can be fun if you’re looking for something to get introduced to. But always get as warranty

All in all better just buy the Ferrari 458... Much simpler & give u a greater peace of mind.... ✌️
It’s almost 2x the price for the 458 … at least in my neck of the woods.

before buyin' any used british car, find the best mechanic you can afford... you'll be seeing a lot of him 🤣🤣🤣
Just buy a GT-R and be done with it.
Try not to get the car wet… You can’t be serious

all the bad you just made me not want to buy this car damn nothing is good on the car whats the point of buying this ?
Awesome video, keep it going bro! 🤌🏻😎
