Even though you’ve achieved much greater consistency, there will be a few days like this. Your calm attitude helps to prevent things from getting even worse on those days.
I absolutely love this channel. Golf has been in my family for centuries now. My 76 year old father still manages a handicap of 16, In 48 with a handicap of 12. He’s now obviously retired however plays 5-6 times a week and now lives 700 kilometres north of where I live in Melbourne (home course and address is on/at the HQ if PGA Australia (Sandhurst). As I play against my father twice a year and with all clubs except the driver I’m 3 clubs shorter from the same position. Unfortunately for me, my father has had the bragging rights for the last 4 times we’ve played. Consistency is the key, course knowledge is important however practice and understanding your own limitations is vital. Each time he beats me I get that very simple reminder. Thanks for the video and I look forward to the next. 👍😎🇦🇺
Love these videos. The way you keep the commentary so simple is what makes them so watchable and relaxing, and with the occasional ‘straight in the drink’ comment they are funny as well. Great stuff, please keep posting them.
Thanks for uploading and sticking with it - I know it was a bad round for you. I'm almost happy to see I'm not the only one - but this is one of the reasons Golf is so special. There is always a good round out there in our future - looking forward to seeing the next one of yours!
"Golf's a funny old game", truer words were never spoken. Two blow up holes and then your last shot on the front is an 18 foot birdie putt! NICE! It's so true, you always remember the great shots, and that's what brings us back! Great stuff James, love your chill attitude playing and narrating these. As I dig myself out of snow here in Canada, thanks for showing me that'll I'll be playing soon! :)
Cheers Norm, the tee shot that set up the birdie was hit so sweet I had a great feeling walking up to the green. I think that's why I sank the putt! Thanks for watching
Good job James thanx for taking me along for the walk, when we go back to Pembrey South Wales to visit the in-laws I'll give you a ring perhaps play a round at Royal Ashburnham, cheers from frozen Canada
Thank you for sharing your golf journey with us. Anyone who has played this game has had their fair share of blowup holes. The best thing to do is to learn from it and stay positive. That’s exactly what you did and the result was a beautifully played ninth hole and a birdie on the scorecard. Keep up the great work! We are all rooting for you!
Thanks, I enjoy these. Interesting and relaxing! Would love to know a little bit more about what you're thinking before and after some of your shots, and how you're trying to adapt.
I do include extra info on some holes when I'm in an interesting spot. I might include them more often and see how they go down. Thanks for watching :-)
I'm pretty jealous of those who can play golf in the winter. There is 2 feet of snow here and below 20 degrees. Thanks for the entertaining videos, James!
Thanks for sharing even when it doesn't go to plan. I had a similar relationship with the water today, although I played well otherwise. The low sun is giving me trouble at the moment too. Hitting into it, knowing that I may not see the flight, seems to affect my swing and approach. Looking forward to the next video. After Rick Shiels, this is my favourite golf channel now!
Cheers, the low sun is very tricky to deal with on this day. On the 16th I had no idea where the ball went. I was looking in the left rough initially but couldn't find it. So for the first time I checked the camera and saw the ball flight went right from the tee! Thanks for watching Nick and good luck with your rounds for 2022! :-)
Bravo James for posting this video. Obviously a tough day, but hats off to you for showing us real golf. The course looked heavy and greens very bobbly making it difficult in the first place. Keep up the good work.
Thanks James for all your videos. They are very encouraging to watch someone who plays like I do. I can totally relate to your game. I find them extremely interesting and look forward to them when they are released. Don't think I have missed a single one. Thanks from the States!! Keep it up and Cheers!!
A few months ago you were still trying to break 100 ,so it shows how far you have come that even on a bad day you carded 93. Great stuff always enjoy your videos.
As I'm currently freezing in Canada, I'm loving (and slightly jealous) that you're golfing right now. Not your best round, but you handled it beautifully! Love you commentary too. Please keep them coming.
Another round under the belt James! Winter golf can be difficult at times, I know a guy who describes it as target practice! Was glad to see you getting the birdie on 9, great putt for it too! I'm similar in that I won't give up on a round. May as well keep going as the next Par 3 could be a Hole in One 😁
We all have these days once in a while James, especially in the winter. Dont let it get you down. As they say tomorrow is another day. Love your content James cant wait for the next video.
Great video again James. A rare off day for you, not helped by the heavy conditions. No doubt you will steady the ship next time out. Keep the videos coming if you can!!
Thanks for posting your round. Love to hear your honest comments during what was a rather mixed round. Winter golf, so glad you were not beating yourself up. Just nice to be out on such a lovely day. Onwards and upwards eh ? Look forward to your next round.
Impressed with these golf course you play on, plenty of grass on them. Annoying low sun, I have this problem on the first two holes of the course I play. Thanks for showing.
Cheers Robert. The low sun was insane for the first 2 holes and then some others too. Maybe I should blame the bad score on the sun and not my bad play! haha :-)
I also watch channels like Zac Radford, Kyle Berkshire, Micah Morris, Grant Horvat, and Good Good, but purely for entertainment as I cannot relate to anything they do on a golf course. You, sir, I appreciate greatly as I can relate to everything. As I watched your quadruple bogey on hole 7, then your tee shot find the water on 8, I was thinking just how familiar that all looked. The only difference between your game and mine, however, is you do make a number of pars as well, whereas a bogey would be a great score for me. So, my hat is off to you sir, and thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Cheers Joshua, relatable golf is what this channel is all about. I can't fathom people blasting drives 300 yards and spinning back wedge shots from 150 yards. It's like a different game altogether!
No rollout and tons of fat shots on this day. I was getting ahead of myself thinking I'll be a single digit handicap player by the summer. Maybe not! haha :-) Thanks for watching Randy
Love your videos but even more is your calm approach. We've all had days like today but the way you hung in there was remarkable! Your short game is wonderful and your thinking around the course is brilliant, halving those 200 yards to the green into 2 hundred yard shots instead of hero shot. Keep working and posting these videos. Also naming the courses, I google each one.
You said it yourself James sometimes you've just got to take the positives out of your round and I saw glimpses of your A game myself at times, Back to the range work hard and you'll be back, remember you've done so well to get to 16 but golf always kicks you up the butt to bring you down to earth, it certainly does with me lol. Looking forward to your next round James👏.
Seems like a tough round - we've all had them. The course looked to be playing quite heavy as most winter courses do. One thing I noticed, if you find yourself under a tree with a bunker in front of the flag, always play around the hazards. A low flying chip to another part of the green or out to the open so you can chip it close. Great progress you're making though
I really enjoy the every shot style vlogs James. A few tips if I may, If you want to be more consistent and powerful, you need to extend your hands down, keeping your left arm straight the entire backswing. Also you need to turn your chest and hips, as well as your shoulders. If you go back and look at your shots your somewhat hunched over. So straighten that back and reach those hands down. Cheers!
Just had a similar round myself and scored a 95 (25 over) when a 18 hcp. Wind was shocking but 3 triples and some really poor putting; positive is i know there will be better days. Credit to you for sharing both the good and bad and no doubt this is a minor bump in the road for what has been some incredible progress of late. You replied to a comment of mine sometime back about your training / practice - I have taken some inspiration from you and intend to get to the range more frequently and not just playing holes at the course. Would be happy if i see anywhere near your progress in my game!
Cheers Rushy, when I'm at the range I always try not to swing too hard. Too many people are crushing balls 100% max out and this is useless on the course. I like to hit a 70 yard pond with a SW in between hitting all my clubs. All the best for your golf rounds in 2022!
Cheers man, I really like the front 9 here as it's mostly tough par 4s. I can see the incremental improvements I've made to my game so clearly as I've played the course a lot. Thanks for watching Ray
Hey James, enjoying the progress. Only word of advise is don't take any...play your own game and know your swing. You got a great following going on looking at the comments keep it up. 15 footer for the birdie on the 9th!
Cheers man, that's great advice. Watching RUclips videos has hindered more than helped with my swing in the past. I use the motto 'play with what you have' on the course for the most part. I only had one genuine birdie putt on this day and it dropped. Have to take the positives! :-) Thanks for watching
Highlight of my Friday waiting for you to post. Definitely a tough day at the office, and very reminiscent of some of my rounds this winter in the wet conditions
Cheers Nick, playing golf in the winter is tough in many different ways. I thought I'd picked a great day to play with good weather & light winds. I wasn't expecting the heavy conditions with almost no rollout which made getting from tee to green very tough for a short hitter like me! Thanks for watching
As others have said, most of us have days like this so just forget it and move on. I was feeling for you with the quadruple and triple bogeys, but then a brilliant two. That's what makes you go back :)
I skipped to the end to see if you'd managed it James😉 I'll watch it properly on my next break or when we get home...it looked a struggle for you what I did see though. Never mind we all have off days, just try to put bad shots behind you. Theres nothing you can do about it, its gone. Just concentrate on the next shot being the best that you can make it 👍
Hello James, fellow Welshman here. A Canadian born and bred as well! Have played for 60 years. Never forget….you are playing a game, NOT working a job. Keep having fun and stay safe. PS - Check out Stacked golf on you tube. Great people.
Getting good mate little tip on the driving i was the same tip is widen your stance and try get a little more on the back swing and a little more ball speed got me an extra 40 yards on my drives and straitened up my drives helped me tremendously hopefully it does the same for u mate
Cheers Matthew, it normally takes around 3 1/2 hours for a round when I film. I always let people behind through if they catch me up so that can make it stretch to around 4 hours. Thanks for watching.
Hi James. Overall, not your best day ball striking. But you had a nice birdie on 9. And you finished with a better back nine score. Way to hang in there and still post a great video. As many have said, that’s golf….some good shots, some bad shots. Keep striving and enjoying this great game of golf! Look forward to next weeks video.
Hey James love the channeL!! I always love seeing golfers improving their scores as they make content. I was just curious with all this golf you play and the content making, have you ever gotten a lesson or 2 from a pro for you getting your club further back on your drive to add some distance? I'm sure I'm not the only one watching who wants to see you add some distance to your game. I am always impressed at your scores with how short you hit the ball. Keep up the good work!
Cheers T S, you are right distance is a big weakness in my game and it was definitely highlighted on this day. I had 3 lessons with a good teacher last year. I'm currently working on a drill at the range that gives 20% extra yardage to all my clubs. I've kind of neglected this as I've been too busy with on course play. We didn't work on getting the club back further but I'm sure this will come up when I take some more lessons this spring. Thanks for watching :-)
@@notaperfectgolfer3489 Even if you don't do it with all your clubs you could just try it with your driver at least to start on the range. That's what I did. If you can get that club back about 25-30% further you will add 40-50 yards to your drive. It might even cut down some of the slice also, you will come through the ball better.
As always James Well Done🧡 why because you stayed calm and played a lot better on the back nine. Winter always brings wet & muddy conditions which makes it much more difficult. Loving the channel.🏌🏻
Really admire your doggedness. A couple of blow up holes but you keep your head and hole a birdie. I also am jealous of the way you very rarely hit a true 'duff' shot, and don;t seem to suffer with slices or snap hooks. That's why the handicap tumbled.
Cheers Simon, I was well chuffed that birdie putt dropped! I sometimes hit snap hooks at the range when trying out different techniques. It feels really weird as I've been a slicer since day 1!!! haha Thanks for watching
Tough day - but on the plus side you have cut out the majority of your slice when driving. I actually shouted out "great shot" - to an empty room - when you birdied the 9th! Another positive was that it was an expletive free round - unlike the majority of mine. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming. It is great seeing your progress and really motivating me to try to match you.
Cheers Simon, I knew the score was toast after 4 double bogeys in the first 5 holes so maybe that's why there was no colourful language! THanks for watching :-)
A decent par on that early bad hole would have totally changed the look of the score but we have all been there. Out tomorrow doing 18 by myself with two balls. Can’t wait.
The weather was nice anyway! We all have those sort of rounds. Lovely sunset on the 18th, a shame it was spoilt by the island green, never been a fan of those sort of gimmicks.
Great video as always, thanks. I was wondering whether you could attach your camera to your trolley, this might enable you to get set up more quickly for each shot by simply wheeling the trolley into position?
Cheers p jay, I thought about doing that but it would be tricky near the greens getting a good angle. Also trolleys are not allowed on tee boxes and some members are really fussy about that. Thanks for the suggestion though. Thanks for watching
That chunk on 7 reminded me again of just how pure your ball-striking is. As someone who regularly tops, chunks, thins or blades the ball (sometimes all on one hole), it's a pleasure to watch. Question: your drives are longer now, and you no longer seem to play that reliable fade. Which came first?
Cheers Gordon, they both came at the same time is the answer. I still aim left but not nearly as much as before. Now I get more distance but get the occasional straight left miss like on the 5th hole!
So inspired by this channel that I've just uploaded our Golf Society's first course vlog (I gave you a credit in the video description). I can only dream of your success. Would love to build a following like yours. Keep up the good work !
Do you warm up before you play James, not offering advice just curious as I don't but often wondered if it makes a difference? Great video bud as always. No editing just pure.
I do 15 minutes on the putting green but normally no swinging off the mats. I usually hit the first tee shot 80% and take it from there. On this day I actually did 20 minutes in the practice area. Plenty of chipping, pitching and approach shots but it definitely didn't help! Just a bad day on the course I think? Thanks for watching
Brilliant video most of us average golfers can relate to your video's not like some of the vloggers we don't always get the full round. Only thing is could hardly hear the voice over 🙁 but still excellent videos 👍👍
Hey Steve, I think the yellows are right for me. Just this day I wasn't hitting the ball well and there was literally no rollout on the fairways. A bad combination indeed! My driver is 180-210 yards usually when I hit it properly. Just on long par 4s I have zero chance of a GIR. Thanks for watching
I'm moving to North Wales. It's always sunny! Or do you just choose the sunny days to play on? Looked like the grass on the greens was long making putting tough that day. I'm sure you would have scored a lot better with quicker greens, but then I guess it is winter. The driving looked good. You're very honest with your scoring too. I'm sure a lot of golfers would have given themselves some of those short putts that you sometimes missed. Hole 7 made me laugh a few times, especially with the extensive ground excavation that went on - almost needed a JCB to repair. Loved the droll commentary on that hole as things went from bad to worse. Keep up the great videos.
Cheers Ed, I try to choose the better days to play as if it's too windy the noise is bad for the video. I don't film on weekends normally as the courses are too busy. Hole 7 was doubly funny as the 2 guys walking by the green saw every one of my blowup hole shots haha :-)
How often are you playing, and do you go to the range much between your rounds? Great to see the constant progress in your game, even if you have the odd off day (that's just golf :D )
I try and play twice a week but it's been tough with the weather this winter so I've missed a few rounds. I go to the range once a week to hit 50 balls smoothly not over swinging. Thanks for watching
Even though you’ve achieved much greater consistency, there will be a few days like this. Your calm attitude helps to prevent things from getting even worse on those days.
Tough day today James, been there got the tee shirt. Tomorrow’s another day. Loving your video’s, keep up the good work 👍👍

Nice birdie. Heroin to the veins.
I skipped to the end to see if you'd managed it James😉
I'll watch it properly on my next break or when we get home...it looked a struggle for you what I did see though. Never mind we all have off days, just try to put bad shots behind you. Theres nothing you can do about it, its gone. Just concentrate on the next shot being the best that you can make it 👍
Great advice Kent, thanks for watching as always! :-)
I didn't think you would break 100 after the front 9. But you did! Well done.
Good round, just gotta keep grinding away!!!
James sorry for early comment up for golf today how did you fix your slice on your driver it's much more controlled now 👍
That was a tough round. Can't wait to see how you rebound in your next round.
Hard to play your best every time you tee up! Thanks for watching :-)
Hello James, fellow Welshman here. A Canadian born and bred as well! Have played for 60 years. Never forget….you are playing a game, NOT working a job. Keep having fun and stay safe. PS - Check out Stacked golf on you tube. Great people.
Some of those greens look like they would have been better left uncut than with those deep wheel marks.
15:59 That bird is terrifying. Enjoyed your video!
It came from nowhere! :-)
Love your videos. Keep it up 👍
Hairs *breadth 👍
Nice to see you're keeping up the hard work.
I said it twice in this video without knowing! :-)
Thanks for watching
Getting good mate little tip on the driving i was the same tip is widen your stance and try get a little more on the back swing and a little more ball speed got me an extra 40 yards on my drives and straitened up my drives helped me tremendously hopefully it does the same for u mate
not all bad James some good shots there another good honest video unlike some of the show ponies on youtube keep the videos coming
What a beautiful looking golf course!
What golf ball do you prefer to use?
Love these videos! Can I ask, how long does a round take you when you stop and film each shot?
Cheers Matthew, it normally takes around 3 1/2 hours for a round when I film. I always let people behind through if they catch me up so that can make it stretch to around 4 hours. Thanks for watching.
Hi James. Overall, not your best day ball striking. But you had a nice birdie on 9. And you finished with a better back nine score. Way to hang in there and still post a great video. As many have said, that’s golf….some good shots, some bad shots. Keep striving and enjoying this great game of golf! Look forward to next weeks video.
Cheers David, not my best round but there's always next time! Thanks for watching :-)
Cheers Martyn, I find playing in tough conditions reaps rewards later, as when you get a good day it's downhill all the way!!! Thanks for watching :-)
Good round! i had a day like that yesterday, but shot much worse. Gotta find that consistency.
Can’t wait.
Bad day at the office James but loved your video allthesame 👍🏻👍🏻
The weather was nice anyway! We all have those sort of rounds.
Lovely sunset on the 18th, a shame it was spoilt by the island green, never been a fan of those sort of gimmicks.
One of those days! Thanks for watching m8
That looked a Real grind! Worth it for the bird 🐦 👌🏼
Loving the videos....how about a 'What's in the Bag' video?????
Great video as always, thanks. I was wondering whether you could attach your camera to your trolley, this might enable you to get set up more quickly for each shot by simply wheeling the trolley into position?
Cheers p jay, I thought about doing that but it would be tricky near the greens getting a good angle. Also trolleys are not allowed on tee boxes and some members are really fussy about that. Thanks for the suggestion though. Thanks for watching
@@notaperfectgolfer3489 ah I see, looks like you need a caddy then?! Haha
Tough round ey! Good content though as always. What shot tracer app do you use?
Shot Tracer pro
Really enjoyed this. Reminds me of…well…me. Subscribed!
James that was heavy going,unlucky
So inspired by this channel that I've just uploaded our Golf Society's first course vlog (I gave you a credit in the video description). I can only dream of your success. Would love to build a following like yours. Keep up the good work !
Good luck with your channel!
That par on 11 was like a Michael Bay movie! Not going to ask how much the flyby cost. Great video again James.
Cheers, just a random Chinook helicopter appearing when I'm trying to save par! :-)
Love your videos mate I've just started playing
What shot tracer app do you use??
Cheers Pav, I use Shot Tracer pro for the videos.
Thanks mate keep it up brilliant work
You hit a great fairway wood hard shot il keep practicing 💪
Brilliant video most of us average golfers can relate to your video's not like some of the vloggers we don't always get the full round. Only thing is could hardly hear the voice over 🙁 but still excellent videos 👍👍
What a legend !
Can you consider showing your stableford score at the end of each round? It would be interesting to see your points vs handicap.
Would you consider playing from the front tees in winter to make up for the wet and cold conditions?
Great video, may I ask what do you use to draw lines of shots?
Shot Tracer pro
That 7th hole, we’ve all been there, especially in those soggy conditions, makes it almost impossible to strike
Hole 7 had me a bit worried, I thought you may have to book in for bed n breakfast at one stage.
Nice viewing , willing you on to achieve your aim.
I wanted to get my money's worth by playing more shots! haha :-)
@@notaperfectgolfer3489 Cheers for the swift response bud!
Golf loves to remind us that it is a difficult game. Not sure why it thinks we'd forget that?!
That's why golf is the greatest game! :-)
You can clearly see you’ve lost that huge slice you used to have when using the driver. Lovely shape to the shot now.
Those tram lines on the 15th were radical ha ha ha.......
Definitely the wettest green of the day! haha :-)
Class first par putt that mate 👍🏽
unlucky out there pal, some good shots.
