  • UBC RESIDENCE APPLICATION DEADLINES
    Heyyy!
    It's time to start thinking about residence! If you have decided that living in residence is what you want to do in first year, it is VERY important that you know what to do and when to do it. This video gives you a general timeline of the dates and deadlines for certain parts of your application and an overview of this process as a whole. I am not sure of the things that have changed from when I applied to now, but my guess it is pretty similar, if not the exact same. It is pretty straightforward, but just in case, here's a video!
    Here are some links that you might find helpful :)

    Wait, so you have to pay all the fees before you know whether you’ll be living in an old compact shared room in the vanier basement or a new single connected top floor OC room?
    Sounds super stressful and unnecessary

  • @kpoptimes5826
    @kpoptimes5826 4 года назад +2

    Hi maybe you could make a video explaining all the different types of room such as single room and private bathroom, shared room, connected single etc. Addressing questions like what is a private bathroom? How many ppl share a private bathroom? How many rooms are there roughly on each floor? How many ppl share a communal bathroom? Just stuff like that if you can - it would be super helpful thank youuu great video :))

    I want to thank you for these videos. It's very helpful. My daughter will be going to UBC this winter, these information helps us to know what to pack and what are the essential items etc. We lived in Edmonton, Alberta. Just wondering if the residence can receive large item online orders, like mini fridge or bookcase etc. I also heard that Vancouver rains a lot, is umbrella necessary? Thank you.

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  4 года назад

      I am glad to hear they helped you out! Please congratulate your daughter for me - getting into UBC is a huge accomplishment! To my knowledge they don't really accept large packages. They may accept a small/medium sized box, but I think a mini-fridge would be too large. You could always inquire with UBC housing. There are lots of second hand or new items available in the Vancouver area, so you might be able to avoid shipping larger items.
      The weather is somewhat unpredictable here. It does rain a lot so an umbrella, or a really good rain coat is a must!

    Hey Maddy! My question actually relates to the linens that UBC offers. I'm an international student, and I'm curious about whether they're actually any good or if I should buy them myself. Thanks in advance :)

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  3 года назад

      Hi! You can choose to get some from UBC that will fit your bed, or you can buy your own! It is up to you! It's worth it to buy them for yourself if you will reuse them down the line but it can be hard to find the bedding that fits the beds (most of them are double XL or twin XL). I haven't heard anyone complain about the UBC bedsheets though!

    Hi maddy! I was wondering if the application allows you to rank which residences you prefer between Vanier, totem, and Orchard commons? Bc for my application I could only pick the type of room I wanted so is there another place where I would rank my preference in residence?
    Also this video was really helpful thank you!

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  4 года назад +1

      Hi Lucia!
      I don't know if you can choose which residence complex you prefer in the application, I think it is strictly room type. If on your application it only asked for room type, then it is very likely that that is all they will ask you. There isn't a supplemental application for residence so if you didn't see it there, they probably don't ask at all. There are certain room types you will only find in certain residences so I guess you could try and "rank the residences" by picking the room types in a certain way!
      I hope that helps a bit? Thank you so much for watching :)

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  4 года назад

      Hi Nasima!
      Thank you so much :) I am pretty sure Orchard Commons only has single-connected rooms. A single connected is basically two single rooms connected by a bathroom that is shared by the two people living there. There are no completely single rooms.

    Hey! I was just wondering what I will have to do since I want to attend UBC as an international student. I've seen that I'll have to apply for year round residence, do you know how that works? And also how do the terms work? Is it just September to April, or does it go beyond? (I want to study Geography: Environment and Sustainability as a Bachelor of Arts degree, of that helps. Thanks and also awesome video!!

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  4 года назад +1

      Hi Ahmed!
      Year round residence is your best option as it will guarantee that you will have a place to stay from year to year, assuming you get a contract. You would apply, and likely end up on a waitlist. They move somewhat quickly but it all depends on which year round housing you are trying to get into. You have to apply literally the minute the applications open because so many students try to get year round housing.
      The winter session runs from September to April with two terms, one from September to December and one from January to April. They do run a summer session as well with two terms, though I am not too sure what the timeline looks like for that just because UBC has changed it a bit given the COVID situation.
      Hope that helps!

    Does ubc provides wifi at residence ? And is it true tht meal plans r available for only first year ?

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  4 года назад

      Yes they provide wifi. I believe there is some form of optional meal plans for upper year students. But I don’t think they are common as almost none of the upper year houses have dining halls... most have their own kitchen

    • @MaddyA
      @MaddyA  4 года назад +1

      Not a dumb question! From what I understand, you can only move in a week early if you are doing Jumpstart. Right now, I am not sure if Jumpstart will be a physical orientation or something else. I am not sure if there is another way... there isn't one that I know of so it would be best to contact UBC housing.

      @@Valentina-wu4yb I'll attach the link below... but they aren't sure if Jumpstart will be in person or not so I don't know if the "move in early" option remains the same or not... don't register for Jumpstart if your only intention is to move in early because given everything that is going on with COVID, that might not be a guarantee anymore. Again, I would reach out to UBC Housing for a more accurate answer. you.ubc.ca/jump-start-vancouver
